The meals were delicious, and the bath was excellent. The staff member who served our meals was also very pleasant.

3rd Floor Room “Hydrangea” with Open-Air Bath
I thoroughly enjoyed the free-flowing open-air hot spring bath, even though it was just a one-night stay. Dinner was also just the right amount, with a modest portion size. We previously stayed in Oku no Ki-ki as a couple, but the Room felt too large for us and the outside view was somewhat limited (the garden), so it didn’t quite suit us. This time, however, those points were just right and we were able to relax. One small thing I noticed was that when we closed the windows completely at night to sleep, there was a distinctive smell typical of a Japanese-style room (perhaps). The attendant was also very courteous and left a great impression.

Gourmet cuisine.
We stayed in two Rooms with my elderly mother, my sister, and us as a couple. My mother requested a Room with beds and meals served at a table and chairs, so we chose Senkyoro. The dining area was wonderful, with spacious seating arranged comfortably. The food was delicious, and the tableware was beautiful down to the small bowls. The Onsen had milky-white water and felt very relaxing.

I was able to relax completely.
Even though we arrived two hours earlier than planned, you kindly welcomed us. During the free time, we enjoyed walking the nearby trails, and I was able to have the Onsen all to myself with no one else around, which was truly relaxing. The meal offered a wide variety of dishes, and with the Tohoku local sake tasting set I ended up quite tipsy—and completely full. If I had to mention one small point, I wished there had been a bit more creativity in the pumpkin cream dish. It wasn’t crowded at all, so we were able to spend a quiet, peaceful time here, which made it a wonderful stay.

Stayed in a detached guest room. A wonderful Ryokan.
Everything was excellent. Dinner was outstanding—everything we tried was delicious! We’d love to visit again. We’ll definitely be back!

I have stayed at man...
I have stayed at many Ryokan, but this was the first time I couldn’t use the large public bath due to a lack of cleanliness. Also, the Room was quite far from the large public bath, making it difficult to go back and forth. When I forgot my towel and asked the front desk, I was told there were no spares and that I should go back to my Room to get it. Considering the price, I expected more pleasant service. It’s disappointing because this was a Ryokan I had wanted to stay at for a long time. The in-room bath was good. The age of the building stood out overall, and there was a strong odor, so it may be uncomfortable for those who prioritize cleanliness. At the very least, I would like to see improvements in service.

It was a very disappointing stay.
I have stayed at this Accommodation, Oku no Kiigi, many times over the past 10+ years because I truly love it. Because of that, you already know my food preferences, and I even received a confirmation call the day before. There were four issues: 1. I was told that a dish included a sticky/“slimy” ingredient that I cannot eat, even though I believe I had informed you in advance. At check-in, the attendant told me it would be barley rice with grated yam (mugi-toro gohan). I was told the Room would be contacted after 4:00 p.m. about what could be done instead. My husband spoke with them directly and was told they would remove the grated yam and serve only barley rice, and that if we had said so earlier they could have changed it to a different rice. The attendant then brought an itemized menu. → It was the 2025 menu. When I called the front desk again, they said they would confirm with the kitchen and called back to say they were preparing sea bream rice. So what were all those earlier exchanges? Since nothing was mentioned, I asked if it was a communication error and was told yes. Regarding this matter, nothing at all was mentioned during dinner or at checkout. 2. My allergies worsened starting around after dinner in the dining Room An air purifier was running so we tried to carry on as normal, but it became so severe that I checked the air conditioner and found dust built up around the vent. I believe this caused it. When I informed the attendant the next day, they apologized but did not express any concern for my condition; no one wiped or cleaned anything; and nothing at all was mentioned at checkout either. 3. At checkout There was no apology for items 1 or 2 above; neither the proprietress nor anyone else said anything. 4. The meal This may come down to personal preference, but it leaned too heavily toward Western-style dishes and felt disappointing. The final two small dishes were different items but both used cheese. I returned three plates almost untouched, yet no one asked anything. For an Accommodation of this level, I would expect someone in the kitchen to notice... Regarding items 1–3 above, I still have not been contacted even once. It may be a system where information stops with whoever is in charge on site rather than being escalated through management lines of authority—but my stay ended up being extremely disappointing. Normally I would give five stars across everything, but this time it fell far short of expectations.

Satisfied with the in-room bath, meals, and pottery class.
The bath was wonderful. We were able to relax and fully enjoy dinner served in the Room. The Wagyu roast beef was outstanding. Making pottery at the ceramics class was also fun—if it turns out well after firing, that’s a perfect score. One point off because the smell of the sofa in the Room bothered me. Overall, we were very satisfied.

I was able to relax and unwind in peace.
Set within lush grounds, the buildings are thoughtfully spaced, creating a peaceful atmosphere where we could truly relax and unwind. Every dish was nourishing and delicious, and we were very satisfied.

I was able to relax again this time.
This was our second stay in this Room, and having a private open-air bath was wonderful. Soaking slowly in the cloudy hot spring water helped melt away our fatigue. However, since there is no changing area by the open-air bath, we had to bring our clothes basket into the bathing area. The entrance is separated by just one sliding door, so if you change there, you then have to walk along an outdoor corridor to reach the open-air bath, which was a bit inconvenient. The meals were excellent and delicious, and the attendant was efficient and pleasantly unobtrusive. One characteristic of this Ryokan is that the staff seem to keep their distance and don’t talk much with guests. We also don’t want too much conversation, so that low-key approach is nice, but when we spoke to them, we would have appreciated at least a brief, polite exchange. The Room is old but very clean and well maintained, making it very comfortable. When you soak in the open-air bath at the large public bathhouse, you can hear birds singing; with cool air on your face while your body warms up, it’s truly relaxing. We will be back again.

Excellent hot springs, delicious meals, and outstanding hospitality.
I visited Okunoki for the first time in 15 years this March and was able to relax so much that I returned again at the end of May. My wife was feeling a bit unwell, and we truly appreciate your very courteous hospitality and attentive support. This time we stayed in a spacious Type A Room and were able to unwind at leisure, and the large in-Room bath had the wonderful milky-white Onsen water quality just as we had hoped. The meals were consistently high quality, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. It was a stay where all four elements—Room, Onsen, dining, and hospitality—came together perfectly. We would love to visit again.

Staying with my one-year-old daughter
We stayed with our one-year-old daughter. Thanks to the staff’s high-quality service, the delicious meals including in-room dining, and the Onsen that we could enjoy together as a family, it became a wonderful memory. The Room was very spacious, and our daughter was thrilled. We would love to stay again.

Heartwarming, exceptional hospitality
This was our first stay in about 40 years, since we last visited as a family of four. We stayed to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary. Back then, we were busy traveling with children, but in the detached guest room we were able to savor kaiseki cuisine, carefully served dish by dish, and I still remember how it soothed the stress of those joyful yet demanding days—leading us to return this time. We also appreciated receiving a phone call before our stay date, which allowed us to make requests in advance. With the detached guest room and in-room dining course, the two of us could relax at our own pace. Having overcome two serious illnesses and needing pre-meal injections, in-room dining was especially helpful for me. The Room was wonderful: an open-air bath attached to the Room where we could soak while looking out at Mt. Kintoki, and a beautiful Japanese-style Room so spacious you could get lost in it. On top of that, everyone at the Accommodation spoke to us so warmly. We are grateful for all the commemorative photos as well—we will cherish them as we continue growing older together. We will miss our Room attendant very much. Thank you sincerely.

Simply the best!
We stayed here with our family during Golden Week. “Mori no Kigi” has a wonderful open-air bath in the Room, and this was our second visit. Just like last time, it was truly relaxing. The staff’s hospitality was also warm, and we were able to spend a peaceful time as a family. After our stay, we accidentally left something behind and caused you extra trouble, but we sincerely appreciate your kind assistance. This is our favorite Ryokan, and we would love to visit again.

We had a very relaxing stay.
Thanks to you, we were able to relax at a leisurely pace. Since we stayed in an annex, we hardly encountered other guests except when going to the main building’s large public bath and open-air bath, so we truly enjoyed a calm and pleasant time with just our family. The attendant who looked after us was young and somewhat reserved, but we felt she was more than attentive to our needs. She was very considerate, and we were happy with her service, which left a very positive impression on us. We hope she continues to do her best. The Room was beautiful and well maintained with a sense of cleanliness, and I personally liked the subtle fragrance of the incense that had been lit. The in-room bath was spacious enough, and the hot spring water drawn from Owakudani was exceptional—we could really feel how thoroughly warmed up our bodies remained even after getting out of the tub. We also enjoyed the cuisine: it delighted us visually with its variety along with the tableware, and of course we fully savored it for its taste as well. By the way, the Japanese black tea provided in the Room was delicious, which also left a great impression. We would definitely like to visit again next time. It rained on our first day and it was disappointing that the view straight ahead was completely white, so next time we hope for clear weather so we can soak in the bath while enjoying views of the mountains across from us. We are grateful that we were able to spend such a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

A relaxing place to unwind.
The cloudy Onsen is a delight to look at and keeps you warm to the core for a long time. It truly feels like it wouldn’t be an Onsen without this milky water! The Room was spacious, but since it was an unfamiliar two-room Japanese-style layout, we were a bit worried it might be inconvenient. However, they kindly set up a table for our meals and prepared the bedding with a thick mattress, which was very helpful. Every dish had a gentle flavor, and we left completely satisfied. It was a very relaxing Accommodation.

A 15,000-tsubo garden?
I made a Reservation because I was drawn to the tagline about a 15,000-tsubo garden and the photo of the lobby with a fireplace. The open-air bath and the large public bath are far apart, but the Onsen was excellent with a pleasant sulfur scent, and I enjoyed it very much. I had wondered about the many comments on the roast beef, but I now understand why everyone praises it so highly. The other dishes were also delicious and reflected the season. I was also impressed by how carefully everything was explained by one of the female staff members. All staff were polite and pleasant, creating a calm atmosphere throughout. The Room was spacious and clean, and I enjoyed looking out over the garden from the open-air bath. If there had been coffee service in the fireplace lobby after breakfast, I think we could have spent some relaxing time there; however, since meals were served in our Room during our stay and we otherwise relaxed in the Onsen or in our Room, it was disappointing not to be able to fully enjoy that lovely lobby atmosphere. It was raining when we arrived, but it cleared up the next day so we took a walk around the garden as we had been looking forward to it. However, although it is introduced as a 15,000-tsubo garden, many derelict-looking buildings—or perhaps staff facilities—stand along what is supposed to be an on-site walking path, and it felt like walking behind those buildings rather than enjoying a stroll through gardens at all. If you provide maps and take pride in this walking route, I would like you to make improvements so that visitors can feel more beauty along the way. The only area that truly felt like a garden was around the pond visible from the main building; elsewhere we walked along paths that felt quite unsettling. Since everything else during our stay met expectations, it is especially disappointing that this walking route lowered my overall impression of this Accommodation so much. With some consideration for maintenance and garden design, I believe this could become an even more attractive Accommodation. As this is an Accommodation with history, I hope you will continue your efforts going forward. Thank you for taking care of us during our stay.

It was my first visit in over ten years, and it was excellent.
I visited several times in the past and loved the milky-white hot spring, but this was my first return in more than 10 years. It used to be difficult to get a Reservation on weekends because of the surrounding forest setting, but after retiring I can now stay on weekdays and was able to book. The milky-white in-Room bath, the delicious meals, and the hospitality of both our Room attendant and the front desk staff were all excellent. In particular, I truly appreciated our Room attendant’s thoughtful service during meals and their gentle, courteous support at checkout. I would definitely like to return again soon.

A Relaxing Accommodation
We stayed as a family of three. It was a very calm Accommodation, and we were able to relax and take our time. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. The milky-white hot spring water was also very pleasant. It was nice that there were yukata for sleeping (the type without a sash). I would have liked combs and hairbrushes in the large public bath. We would like to stay again.

The hallway leading to the open-air bath is uneven and shaky.
The walk from the annex to the large public bath is long, and to reach the open-air bath from there, you have to put on a yukata and walk along an uneven corridor. I understand that the Facility is old, but it does not feel worth the price.

Family New Year Celebration
The Ryokan was full of traditional Japanese charm and very enjoyable. The Room was renovated and clean, but the toilet was slightly inconvenient to use. The meals were carefully prepared and delicious, though I wished for something with a bit more New Year's atmosphere. The portion size felt a little insufficient for men. The staff were very kind and thoughtful, even arranging souvenirs for us. At the send-off, someone who seemed to be the landlady appeared, but there was no greeting, so it wasn't clear. It turned out to be a wonderful trip. Thank you very much!

Rice
The accommodation is very beautiful, conveniently located, and offers great service. However, I was concerned that the dinner was served cold. The hallways were cold, and it took some time for the food to be served, so I understand the situation. Still, I would have preferred warm rice. Breakfast was warm and delicious, which made dinner a bit disappointing in comparison.

A top-class Ryokan!
Stayed one night with elderly parents. From the moment we arrived, the traditional hospitality provided a sense of comfort. The accommodation is perfect for a relaxing stay, with opportunities to stroll through the garden and try pottery. Convenient transportation access. Meals were beautifully presented with elegant flavors and intricate dishes, offering high satisfaction. Portions were slightly large, and while they kindly provided an extra rice container, it felt wasteful to leave food behind given the current rise in rice prices—perhaps a system to adjust portion sizes would be helpful. The facility's age can be seen as part of its charm; however, it was surprising that the cleaning in the outdoor bath changing area was not thorough. The humidifier was quite old-fashioned and made me hesitant to use it. Considering the quality of meals and onsen in Hakone Sengokuhara, I found the price reasonable. I would love to visit again!

Comfortable even with an infant.
We visited with our 7-month-old daughter to celebrate our engagement anniversary. The Japanese-style room with an Onsen in the main building was very comfortable, and our daughter seemed to enjoy it as well. Since she has started crawling and standing up, it can be challenging to manage the room and bedding, but we were able to rest peacefully as her bedding was placed between the low beds in the Japanese-style room. The accommodation provided thoughtful amenities like a diaper pail and dishes for baby food, and everyone was so kind that my wife could relax for the first time in a while. Meals were served in the room, featuring delicately seasoned appetizers, delicious sashimi, simmered yellowtail fish, melt-in-your-mouth roast beef for dinner, along with breakfast options like grilled horse mackerel and hot pot dishes offering a variety of flavors. Of course, we also enjoyed the Onsen thoroughly. The fireplace in the lobby on the first floor was warm and inviting, while the spacious garden made for a perfect walking path. We hope to visit again during warmer seasons when our daughter will likely be able to walk around in the garden herself. Overall, this accommodation offered thoughtful hospitality that we truly appreciated!

Enjoy soothing cloudy hot springs and exquisite roast beef, conveniently located near Sengokuhara.
This was my second stay at this accommodation, and I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful milky hot spring baths, both indoor and outdoor, surrounded by the deepening autumn mountains at Senkyoro. The luxurious and delicious dinner featuring their famous roast beef and the sumptuous breakfast were also delightful. I was especially touched by their thoughtful service of substituting an ingredient I am allergic to with another excellent one, even though I had not mentioned it again this time after notifying them during my previous visit. After checking out from our one-night stay, they kindly offered to drive us to Susuki-no in Sengokuhara using a company car that was available, which made me very happy. This is a fantastic accommodation that I would love to visit again in a different season.

Hakone Trip
It was a relaxing stay. This time, I stayed in a detached room due to a last-minute reservation. The facility has a bit of historical charm, but it was good. The staff in charge of the room and the ryokan staff were kind and pleasant. The onsen was excellent. The meals were great as well. It’s an accommodation I’d like to visit again!

The Onsen water has become less cloudy compared to a few years ago. Has anything been adjusted? Has the quality of the spring changed? It was disappointing. However, the hospitality and meals were excellent.

Excellent hospitality
We stayed at Sengokuro [Ultimate Holiday] Annex "Oku no Kigi" with a private open-air bath for the first time as a couple. What impressed us the most was the exceptional hospitality of the staff. In particular, the young attendant in charge of our room learned about my wife's birthday during a casual conversation and kindly took a commemorative photo, placed it in a beautiful frame, and gave it to us as a gift. They also prepared late-night snacks for us and filled our thermal bottle with tea upon departure. These heartfelt gestures made by the staff deeply moved us as a couple. Additionally, there is a walking path within the ryokan's premises that takes about 20 minutes to complete. During this season of autumn leaves, we were able to enjoy breathtakingly beautiful scenery along the way. It turned out to be such an amazing trip that we are already looking forward to visiting again next year. Thank you very much!

A calm and quiet accommodation with a wonderful onsen
I stayed with my mother and husband, a total of three people. The room's bath was excellent! The quiet environment and the garden provided a relaxing atmosphere. Inside the accommodation, there were many Japanese and Western paintings displayed, which we enjoyed. The meals were delicious and very filling, especially the unique soup dish. However, one downside was that despite being such a peaceful accommodation, the noise from the old air conditioner in the room disturbed my mother's sleep. Overall, I think it is a wonderful ryokan.
