    A lovely traditional Ryokan

    This was our first time staying here. We were very satisfied with everything, including the complimentary drinks, well-stocked amenities, the cleanliness of the Room, and all of the meals. The building itself is not new, but it preserves the charm of a traditional Ryokan—such as its Japanese garden—while the interior has been renovated for a comfortable stay. It was a memorable trip. Thank you very much.

    Everything was simply wonderful. Our whole family truly enjoyed your heartfelt hospitality, thoughtful care, delicious cuisine, and the Shiratama-no-Yu hot spring. The great proprietress is the best in Japan. Please stay healthy and live a long life. We will definitely visit again.

    It was my first time seeing a green bath.

    In Niigata, I wanted to experience both a black Onsen and a green Onsen, so I made a last-minute Reservation at this Onsen Accommodation—the green one. The Onsen was truly green and absolutely impressive. The Ryokan as a whole felt very comfortable, which was great. I often stay at Ryokan with only a few guest rooms, so I was worried about crowds, but it wasn’t an issue at all.

    Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate guests with full-body tattoos.

    We stayed in a Deluxe Japanese-Western Room (10-tatami Japanese-style room + 12-tatami living room + beds). The Room was spacious and clean, and the Onsen was amazing with silky-smooth water! However, it was disappointing that a guest with full-body tattoos up to the neck used the baths, which hurt the Accommodation’s image. In today’s world, I think small tattoos are common and don’t bother me, but I would have liked restrictions on guests with full-body tattoos. For reference, there is a small notice at the bath entrance stating that guests with tattoos are not permitted to use the facilities.

    I wasn’t sure whether to write this, but

    Thirty years ago, when I visited during training with a major travel agency, I was deeply impressed by the outstanding hospitality and first-class service—surpassing any Hotel—and that memory stayed with me. This time, as I had the chance to visit Niigata again, I chose to stay here without hesitation. As for the Facility, while it no longer has the same brilliance it did 30 years ago, I was still satisfied with its exceptional design and atmosphere. However, the service during meals was truly disappointing and poorly handled. As a private-room guest, I received treatment that should be unthinkable, and honestly, I was very let down—to the point where no matter how good everything else may be, there will absolutely not be a second visit. The food may have been delicious, but I felt so uncomfortable that I don’t remember anything about it. Perhaps it was simply an unfortunate staff assignment; however, placing staff who are inadequately trained—lacking hospitality and sincerity—and who respond with irritating remarks in customer-facing roles reflects this Hotel’s attitude. They may think losing one guest does not matter, but if this attitude continues, there is no doubt they will continue on a downward path. I did receive an apology at the front desk the next day, but it did not restore my enjoyment of what had been a pleasant trip. I hesitated to write this because it may cause inconvenience for the Hotel; however, despite paying a significant rate, I am posting this in hopes that even one fewer person will experience treatment like mine.

    The mochi was exquisite.

    The hospitality was excellent. The Facility felt a bit too large, but after soaking in the hot water, I could tell my skin felt noticeably smoother. The meals were also wonderful—especially the breakfast buffet; I was amazed at how delicious the mochi was!

    Museum-like decorations were displayed throughout the property, making it a delight to look around. The meals were excellent, and the staff’s service was truly satisfying.

    Thank you for the wonderful memories!

    Whenever we visited Niigata, we always stayed at Kahou, but this time we chose Senkei! To sum it up, it was excellent. That day, there was a group reunion staying there, and seeing everyone so happy throughout the Accommodation made us feel warm as well. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, so we felt comfortable and at ease. We also loved the Onsen—the large public bath had a great size and well-designed facilities with everything we needed, so we enjoyed it again and again. For dinner, we booked a private-room Plan. We were shown to a spacious and lovely room, and everything from the sashimi to dessert was delicious! In the evening, we had fun with drinks and snacks bought at the shop, and breakfast the next morning was of course delicious too. The staff were quick and attentive about refilling items as well. We were very impressed, and my husband and I are already saying that from now on, whenever we go to Niigata, we’ll stay at Senkei!

    Everything was good except for the main meat dish.

    The services, such as the complimentary drinks in the lobby and the ice cream in the post-bath area, were excellent, and the Onsen was also wonderful. What was disappointing was the main beef dish. It had far too much fat; it felt like I was eating fat, so I left about half of it. I had been really looking forward to the beef, so it was truly disappointing. (All of the other dishes were very delicious.) Even after seeing that there was a lot of fat on the hot plate and that I had left most of the meat, the server simply smiled and said something like, “It was quite fatty,” which made it seem as though they didn’t realize it was so fatty that it was difficult to eat. At checkout I received a handwritten message card, but it was easy to imagine that a standard message had been written in advance and only my name added later. To be frank, I felt there were more important things to address as part of service than doing that.

    An Onsen you’ll hate to leave

    The Onsen was simply outstanding. I enjoyed a soak right after check-in, again after dinner, and once more before bed. I also went in after waking up—and it was so good that even after checking out, I wished I could have soaked one more time. The hospitality and service were truly excellent; the staff felt well trained and attentive. I had a wonderful stay.

    Tsukioka Onsen

    The food was delicious, but the portions were so generous that we couldn’t finish everything. The sashimi, grilled abalone, steak, and more were all of a very high standard. The rice was excellent as well—Niigata truly lives up to its reputation. Younger guests will be especially satisfied.

    Thank you very much.

    The Onsen was excellent. Personally, I would like two face towels provided (one for the sink and one for bathing). It was disappointing that only bath towels were available in the bath area. I was overwhelmed by the breakfast buffet (and it was also disappointing that there were times when no seats were available). Even if crowding at the buffet is unavoidable, I would appreciate it if seating could be managed or if breakfast times could be staggered to spread out guests.

    It was absolutely amazing.

    Last year we stayed at Kaho, and this year we visited Senkei for our wedding anniversary again—two years in a row. Kaho was wonderful, and after reading the proprietress’s book that we bought there last year, I insisted to my husband that we absolutely had to visit Senkei as well. I’m very happy we were able to come again this year. It was the perfect day for our anniversary. The Room, baths, sauna, and food—everything was outstanding! However, there was no ice available or 안내 anywhere on any floor here, and since it was already late, I hesitated to call the front desk and ended up giving up. I’d be happy if there were a place to get ice somewhere on-site like at Kaho. Next time, I want to stay at the annex too!!!!

    “Satisfaction in every bite”—we enjoyed the heartfelt hospitality of the Accommodation.

    This trip was also to celebrate my husband’s birthday, so we chose this Accommodation for its “quality over quantity” feast, limited to just three groups per day. About 50 years ago, I had planned a one-night stay here with my mother, but she—being a fish lover—was so moved by how delicious everything was that we decided on a Multiple Night Stay at the last minute. I invited my husband to this memorable place. It turned out exactly as I hoped: he praised every dish and even finished everything (he usually leaves food), and he was also impressed by the beautiful presentation. At breakfast, even someone who doesn’t like mochi enjoyed watching it being pounded at the venue and happily ate it fresh, saying “Delicious.” He ate plenty of the other dishes as well and was in great spirits. It was a perfect choice for his 75th birthday trip. He was also delighted with the gift from the Accommodation. Thank you very much. This is truly a wonderful Accommodation where you can feel comfort in every detail.

    The Luxury of Leisure

    It was relatively affordable, and I thought it was great: a spacious, relaxing Room with a clean feel. The bath area was also roomy, with plenty of washing stations, and it felt spacious enough that it didn’t seem crowded even during busy times like before dinner or early in the morning. Breakfast had a fun, event-like atmosphere with things like mochi-pounding, a waffle maker, and an orange juice squeezer. The evening lounge was also enjoyable—we had yogurt ice cream and drinks and had a great time. I think both families with children and adults can fully enjoy what this place has to offer. There were a few minor points in the Room that concerned me, but I shared them in the survey.

    The attentive service throughout was outstanding.

    Our first trip to Niigata was amazing. 　It was also our first Multiple Night Stay as a couple. Now that our child is older, we’ve been traveling two or three times a year for the past few years. 　Everything here—the Room, Facility, baths, and meals—was outstanding, and above all, the staff’s hospitality was exceptional. 　This is no exaggeration: we’ve stayed at about 30 Hotels and Ryokans so far, and this place is now number one for both my wife and me (lol). 　Thank you all for such a wonderful time. 　Next time, it won’t be a trip to Niigata Prefecture—it will be a trip with the purpose of coming back here for another Multiple Night Stay.

    It was a satisfying trip.

    I enjoy traveling and have stayed at many Onsen Accommodations, but it’s rare to find a Ryokan where the Room, meals, and Onsen are all excellent. This Accommodation was a 5-star stay for me. The Room didn’t have any particular view, but even in a compact space I was able to spend a comfortable and relaxing time. Dinner was served in a completely private dining room, so I could take my time, and the Onsen had a pleasant sulfur scent—I ended up soaking in it again and again. I’d love to visit again, and it seems there is also an annex building, so I’d like to try that as well.

    The hospitality is excellent.

    I stayed here on my first trip to Niigata. All of the staff provided courteous, wonderful service, and I was able to spend my time very comfortably. In the lobby, we enjoyed welcome drinks and Japanese sweets, and I was happy to be able to rent a colorful yukata for the reasonable price of 200 yen. The Room was spacious and furnished with a modern sofa. We could look out over the streets of Tsukioka Onsen, and at night we could also see the garden illuminated by moonlight from our Room. In the large public bath, cleansing oil and face wash were provided in each individual booth, which I really appreciated. There was also a ReFa hair dryer and facial device at the vanity area in the large public bath, which delighted my daughter. The meals were healthy with gentle flavors. The breakfast buffet also offered freshly pounded mochi that we could enjoy with various toppings, along with Yasuda yogurt and even a strawberry smoothie—everything was delicious and very filling. It was a truly wonderful Accommodation. Thank you very much.

    A Hotel you’ll want to visit again

    It was a wonderful Hotel where you can feel the spirit of hospitality from the moment you arrive. From the warm welcome and send-off at the entrance to the staff’s smiles and courteous service, it truly warmed our hearts. While parts of the Facility reflect its history, everything was beautifully maintained down to every detail, and we had a very comfortable stay. Fresh flowers were displayed throughout the building, and we were happy to be able to enjoy them even in chilly March. Each dish came with a thoughtful explanation when served, and together with the excellent service, it made for a delicious and enjoyable dining experience. We also traveled from far away, and we were surprised that not only the front desk but even our dinner attendant was aware of this—it showed such attentive care. The only thing we noticed was a step in the Onsen area. There was a small step near the open-air bath, but there was no warning sign; having one would make guests feel safer when using it. Regarding the Shuttle Service bus from Niigata Station to Tsukioka Onsen: since it does not require a Reservation, some guests were unable to board. Introducing a Reservation system or improving guidance could make it easier for guests to use with confidence.

    Meals and Dining Staff

    A trip to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The four of us—my parents, my wife, and I—stayed here. We made Reservations for two Rooms; they were on the same floor, but a bit far apart. The bath was spacious and open, which was great. The highlight was the meals. The atmosphere in the dining area, the food itself, and above all the excellent service and professionalism of our attendant were wonderful. Thank you, Mr./Ms. Y. It was a truly memorable trip.

    It was excellent.

    The young woman who first escorted us to our Room and the young man who served and explained the dishes at mealtimes were both impeccably clean and carried themselves with graceful, efficient poise. Their explanations were accurate and courteous, making our stay truly comfortable. It felt like the staff are well trained, and that this is a rewarding place to work. Everywhere in the property was spotless, and we enjoyed admiring the impressive paintings and luxurious design throughout our stay. Of course, the meals were outstanding—everything from the ingredients to the preparation and presentation was delicate and superb. We stayed with my elderly parents, and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves just by spending time inside without having to walk around outside. We would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    From arrival to departure, every staff member’s greetings and responses were wonderful. The Room was comfortable, and dinner was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. At breakfast, the freshly pounded mochi was truly delicious. I was also able to relax in the open-air bath, and the water felt great. In addition, this stay was to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and we were touched by your thoughtful care and kind words that never felt overdone—it truly warmed our hearts. “A highly satisfying Accommodation” is exactly right—we’re glad we stayed.     Everything was wonderful except for the bathroom.

    The meals, hospitality, and the cleanliness of the Rooms and Facility were all excellent overall. In particular, the fresh flowers placed throughout the building felt luxurious—not only visually, but also soothing through their fragrance. The only disappointment was the bath. Since the indoor large public bath is not an Onsen, guests tend to gather in the open-air Onsen bath instead. However, because the open-air area is not very spacious, it was crowded all the time and I couldn’t relax in it. In the end, I only used it once. I wish the indoor bath were also an Onsen. The water quality was very good, which made it even more disappointing. As this is a large Ryokan with many group guests, it can be noisy at the baths and during breakfast, so it may not suit those who prefer a calm and quiet atmosphere.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    An exceptionally satisfying Accommodation—worthy of its No. 2 overall ranking in Japan’s Top 100 Accommodations. The sulfur hot spring water is outstanding, and simply gazing at the lattice ceiling in the large public bath makes you feel enriched. The service and cuisine were both flawless. The grilled nodoguro with salt was deeply delicious. Breakfast also showed thoughtful touches throughout, and the attentive care was truly appreciated. I believe a Ryokan should offer an escape from everyday life, but Senkei goes further—wrapping that extraordinary experience in everyday kindness and elevating it into a wonderfully comfortable stay. I will definitely return.\nWishing you success in reclaiming the No. 1 overall spot.

    Highly recommended.

    Overall, I am very satisfied and would like to stay again. It seems to be a popular Accommodation, so I was a little surprised by how lively the breakfast buffet was, but the staff were pleasant and everyone treated us very politely.

    The bath is excellent.

    The staff are kind and helpful. The Onsen is wonderful—I’d love to visit again. The shop has a great selection, and the prices are reasonable. The yogurt ice cream in the lobby is very refreshing and delicious. The Room is spacious and comfortable, and the futon was so cozy that I stayed lying down until check-out. The only downside was that the crab and grilled blackthroat seaperch lacked sweetness.
