    I really enjoyed my stay.

We are truly grateful for all the help from Mr./Ms. Nakai. The meals were also very delicious. My daughter left something behind, but it arrived the next day, neatly packaged. We requested cash on delivery, but the shipping had already been paid—thank you very much. We will stay here again when we visit Yugawara.

    No compromises in our Accommodation

I have been staying here for some time, and recently I always stay for three nights. Each time, the property is quiet and thoroughly cleaned throughout. The wonderful, delicious meals were excellent, and both the open-air bath and the large public bath were spotless. The background music was also pleasant. The Room has two rooms with a veranda, and it was the perfect size for just my spouse and me. The staff’s service was also good.

Our one-night, two-day stay was amazing!!

    1. Meals The rice was freshly cooked and piping hot, and the grilled dried horse mackerel was delicious. We even received some grilled dried horse mackerel from the Ryokan staff! There was also eel rice, which my parents said was very tasty. 2. Hospitality & Service The staff member in charge of our stay provided outstanding service and made us want to come back. The Ryokan also offers a letter-sending service, and we sent one to my grandmother. In the morning, there was complimentary coffee, and children were offered complimentary juice. 3. Onsen & Baths The Onsen water quality was great, and we enjoyed visiting multiple baths. You should definitely try the rooftop open-air bath—enjoying the view made it even better. Since it was summer, nighttime felt perfect for us. Our Room also had a bath with adjustable temperature. 4. Guest Rooms & Amenities All necessary amenities were provided. We stayed in Special Room A, which felt more than spacious enough for three family members. 5. Facility & Equipment The Accommodation floors are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, while the Onsen/baths are on the 1st and 4th floors, which is convenient. The front desk and shop are on the 3rd floor; the shop sold items such as keychains, lap blankets, and magnifying glasses. There were no vending machines. Overall, I highly recommend this Accommodation (Fukiya). We were very satisfied! One older child (upper elementary) Two adults

    Wonderful Accommodation

Above all, the staff were kind and attentive. The meals, bath, and Room were all exceptionally well cared for, making this a wonderful Accommodation where you can truly feel the owner’s attention to detail. Highly recommended.

    Wonderful hospitality and Onsen

Stayed for one night and two days after reading the Reviews. You can feel the spirit of hospitality everywhere. The in-Room dining was also excellent, and the service was outstanding. The Onsen water quality is great, and above all, there are private baths throughout the property—including one on the rooftop— so I had a wonderful experience soaking in the Onsen while looking up at the sky. I chose this place to relax on my own, and it was exactly what I hoped for. Thank you very much.

    A long-established Ryokan in Yugawara

Since it was a nearby trip during Golden Week, I made a Reservation thinking this was one of the nicer Accommodations in Yugawara. The exterior had a lovely atmosphere, and I felt excited with high expectations. The interior feels somewhat dated. The guest Room looked quite spacious in the photos on IKYU, but it wasn’t as large as expected, and for the carpeted Room, I felt the carpet should be replaced. Overall, even though it was called a special Room, it still felt old and didn’t feel particularly special, which was a bit disappointing. The hospitality and service—including the after-bath refreshments—were very pleasant. The private bath and public bath were also good. The meals were generous in portion size, but at this price range I expected more; they were average. Lately many Ryokan seem to reduce quantity and improve quality instead—perhaps this is just how long-established places are. Since it was Golden Week as well, we paid close to 100,000 yen per adult, so it’s hard not to be critical—but overall we didn’t feel very satisfied. We’ve stayed at many Ryokan, so we may have set our expectations too high here. Also, it would be nice if there were a Shuttle Service. Even inexpensive Ryokan offer one, so given this price range as well, adding it might better convey your spirit of hospitality.

    Exceptional hospitality

Although the building itself is old, it was thoroughly cleaned and spotless, with not a speck of dust. All the baths—the private bath, the large public bath, and the in-Room Onsen bath—were also impeccably cleaned, making our stay very comfortable. It’s rare these days to have in-Room dining with a dedicated attendant, and we truly felt the outstanding hospitality. We were even given a souvenir at the end; the service, Facility (including the Onsen), furnishings, and more were all truly wonderful.

I would be very happy if there were a “Hara Hachibunme” Plan.

This was our first stay at this Accommodation. It had been quite a while since we last visited Yugawara Onsen, and the mild, gentle water was wonderfully soothing. Since both breakfast and dinner were served in the Room in a Japanese-style setting, we asked for a table and chairs to be prepared. The first thing that caught our eye upon entering was the sunny veranda facing the garden, perfectly timed for plum blossom season. Sitting in a lovely chair, we relaxed while watching small birds—such as Japanese white-eyes, flycatchers, and bush warblers—flitting from branch to branch. Dinner began with an assortment of small dishes on a tray decorated with red plum branches—perfect accompaniments for drinks—including sea cucumber entrails (konowata), salmon rolled with pickled radish (kizuta-maki), and roasted karasumi. This was followed by pufferfish milt soup, thin-sliced conger eel sashimi, steamed barley-and-yam topped with sea urchin and tilefish, and wagyu beef with turnip grilled on a ceramic plate. We still had room to enjoy the cod-and-milt mizore hot pot, but around the main dish (kelp-cured small sea bream and pen shell) we started to feel full—and by the time the crab takikomi rice arrived, we were completely stuffed. Still, we somehow managed dessert: strawberry mochi and chestnut zenzai (laughs). Because we chose the Long Stay Plan, after breakfast they reserved the top-floor open-air bath for us, and we truly enjoyed an “in-the-sky” bathing experience. The night before, after dinner, we used the ganbanyoku session we had reserved—but everything from the bathroom floor to the heated stone surface was so hot it was impossible to walk barefoot. We layered several bath towels from the entrance as makeshift mats; my daughter still managed about 15 minutes despite that effort, but I reached my limit at five minutes—so I feel like I got a bit of revenge this time. The approach road up to this Accommodation has such steep curves that it can be startling if you’re not used to it, so valet service at checkout was extremely helpful. The dried fish gift we received as a souvenir was delicious—we grilled it and flaked it into vinegared rice along with salted cucumbers plus shiso leaves and ginger. Thank you for such wonderful hospitality at this very Japan-like Japanese Accommodation.

A One-Night Stay to Remember This Spring

I had been interested in this Accommodation for some time, and this time we stayed to celebrate my son’s birthday. They took a family photo for us and showed thoughtful care in many ways. Thank you. I think this is an Accommodation where you can relax and enjoy delicious meals at a leisurely pace while having drinks. The timing of the meal service matched our eating pace perfectly. We also received warm, attentive service that made us feel very comfortable. I’m the type who likes to chat with the staff about the food and local area, and they kindly answered my questions, which made it a pleasure. We tried all of the baths. The views from the private open-air family baths on the 3rd and 5th floors were beautiful. Both the sunrise and sunset were wonderful. I would love to visit again when the autumn leaves are at their peak or when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

A calm, relaxing space and attentive hospitality

This was our first stay at this Accommodation. The Room, the meals, and the staff’s service were all very attentive, and we were able to spend our time comfortably. In addition, everyone—from the proprietress to the servers and those who prepared our futons—treated our child warmly, which allowed us to relax and enjoy a worry-free stay. The food was delicious and we were very satisfied; however, we felt the portions were a bit large and we are sorry for leaving some. Also, because the service is so thorough, there were moments when it felt a little too attentive; we felt that even with slightly simpler service, guests could relax more at their own pace. Regarding the cloak provided when heading to the open-air bath, we would feel more comfortable if you could inform guests in advance that there may be a possibility of being seen from outside. We also appreciated the thoughtful services such as drinks after bathing and late-night snacks; however, some parts felt slightly excessive. We believe many guests would still be fully satisfied with a simpler approach or an opt-in option based on preference. Additionally, for in-room lighting and bedding items—such as floor lamps or cotton pajamas—we felt it would be even more comfortable if these could be selected as needed (either provided by default or available upon request). Also, if after-meal coffee could be enjoyed in the Room rather than being served only in the lobby, it would offer more flexibility and be appreciated. It was a wonderful Accommodation overall, and we hope it will become even more comfortable in the future. Thank you very much.

A stylish Accommodation with exceptional attention to detail

Beyond the Room interior, this Accommodation offers refined beauty in every detail. Though small in size, the shop’s selection—like an arts and crafts museum—is a must-see. The cleanliness of the large public bath is truly exceptional.

    New Year Onsen Trip

Fukiya-san It was my first visit. I love Finn Juhl, and someone connected with the House of Finn Juhl told me about Fukiya, so I had been hoping to visit someday. Since I had no plans for the New Year holidays for the first time in a while, I made a last-minute Reservation. Kengo Kuma & Associates’ “Fuki” design elements were incorporated throughout the property, and I was impressed by the attention to detail. The hangers, yukata, coasters, bags, amenities, carpets, lights, chopstick rests, and keys—everything reflected a strong sense of care and craftsmanship. The Room had a pleasant fragrance and felt very relaxing. I was also able to enjoy the Onsen at a leisurely pace. All of the attendants were wonderful. They welcomed me like a mother would, and I experienced a warmth and comfort that felt like coming home. Above all, the New Year’s holiday meals were outstanding! Dinner was amazing, but breakfast was just as impressive. I also made sure to sit properly in the Finn Juhl chairs. The flowers were beautifully arranged as well—the overall setting was impeccable. Delicious. Beautiful. The Onsen is superb. If there were also a Plan on IKYU with check-out until 12:00 p.m., it would be even better. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Luxurious moments of ultimate indulgence

This was my first time staying here, and I was amazed by how everything I could possibly wish for in a Ryokan was provided. The Onsen had meticulously adjusted temperatures, allowing me to choose based on my mood or condition—whether I wanted a lukewarm soak to relax or a slightly hotter bath on colder days. I thoroughly enjoyed the natural flow of the hot spring water. The amenities and towels were abundant, with thoughtful touches everywhere that made me feel truly pampered—it’s the very definition of impeccable hospitality. The room furnishings, tableware, garden, and overall atmosphere perfectly captured the charm of a traditional Japanese Ryokan. It allowed me to spend an incredibly peaceful and relaxing time. The service throughout was designed with guests in mind—never overbearing but always natural and comfortable—which left a lasting impression on me. If there’s one point for improvement, it would be that while the meals were satisfying and comforting overall, they felt somewhat safe compared to the high level of satisfaction elsewhere. A standout dish would have added an extra layer of specialness to the stay. I look forward to returning here again for another rejuvenating experience at this wonderful Ryokan. Thank you for providing such an exceptional time!

    Attention to detail was evident.

This was my first time staying here. The bath, meals, hospitality, and room were all wonderful. Attention to detail was evident, such as the two types of private open-air baths available—one by prior Reservation and the other on a first-come-first-served basis. There were also thoughtful touches like coffee service in the lobby and user-friendly faucets in the room. Additionally, the staff member who attended to our room provided excellent hospitality with a warm demeanor.

It was an exceptional stay that exceeded expectations, and I would love to visit again. The interior design and facilities of the Ryokan, including the Room, were impeccably clean, making it very comfortable and pleasant. The baths included a large public bath, open-air baths, and even private open-air baths—all well-maintained—allowing us to enjoy various bathing experiences during our stay. Both dinner and breakfast featured a variety of seasonal dishes made with fresh ingredients, all of which were delicious. The hospitality from everyone, including the proprietress and the attendant who assisted us, was warm and welcoming—making us feel as if we had returned home. On our way back under clear skies, we walked to Yugawara Station while stopping by Gosho Shrine as recommended by the proprietress. We also drew a fortune slip there—and got "Daikichi" (great blessing). Overall, it was an incredibly satisfying trip from start to finish!

    Luxurious and attentive service

My mother, my spouse and I, along with my sister who visited Tokyo after a long time, stayed at this accommodation. Since my mother is elderly, we searched for a nearby onsen ryokan with an indoor bath, in-room dining, and a Japanese-Western style room. Fukiya was the perfect choice. When making the reservation, we mentioned that our 88-year-old mother would be joining us. For dinner, they prepared a yellow celebratory vest and cap for her and took commemorative photos. They also provided special chopsticks for celebration and arranged red rice and dessert not listed on the menu to celebrate her milestone birthday. The room included one Japanese-style room with an adjoining space and a bedroom. There were two large-screen TVs as well as yukata robes, samue-style loungewear, and gauze pajamas provided. The indoor bath was made of cypress wood; it was clean and relaxing. The spacious public bath was equipped with plenty of towels, amenities, high-quality hair dryers. The meals featured fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients that were absolutely delicious. Rice cooked in individual clay pots for each room was so good that we had seconds even in the morning! Upon departure at the front desk, each guest received personalized (handwritten) photo cards mounted on decorative paper along with celebratory gifts from the shop. All staff members we encountered greeted us warmly with smiles throughout our stay—our attendant especially stood out—and they even waved goodbye until our car disappeared into the rain upon leaving. Both my mother and sister were delighted by their experience here; choosing Fukiya turned out to be an excellent decision! Thank you for providing such wonderful memories!

    Exceeds all expectations!

While searching for Finn Juhl's FJ53 chair, as I love Scandinavian furniture, I came across "Fukiya." Yugawara Onsen? Checking IKYU.com, I found many beautiful photos and reviews. I immediately decided to visit and reserved a room with the FJ53 chair. Upon arrival, I discovered not only the chair but also the stunning decor throughout the accommodation, a clean and pleasant large public bath, private open-air baths, delicious and thoughtfully prepared meals, attentive staff who served dishes efficiently during conversations, and other staff members who kindly engaged with us. Before we knew it, it was time to check out. The lovely proprietress saw us off warmly as we left Yugawara Onsen for the first time with fond memories of this wonderful accommodation that we hope to visit again someday. Thank you very much!

Fukiya has been a must-visit spot in Yugawara for 30 years.

"I have a place in mind..." Since my son mentioned this 12 years ago, we have visited Fukiya nearly 20 times as a nearby luxury getaway. Using IKYU through the hometown tax system, we were able to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and relax this time as well. In the room adorned with Fukiya's logo in every detail, we enjoyed the view of the meticulously maintained garden from the veranda while playing a CD to lift our spirits. Both baths, with their overflowing hot water, doubled the blissful moments. The dishes prepared by the new head chef, who started last June, were so delicious that my husband exclaimed, "This is dangerous, I can't stop eating!" The aroma of the broth filled the room the moment we opened the lid of the soup bowl (including the morning miso soup), and we savored every bite as a family. The next morning, we enjoyed morning coffee in the lobby while admiring the moss garden and scenery. Unlike a hotel, this is a traditional ryokan, but the facility is always well-maintained, making every visit comfortable. Even my late mother, upon entering, used to say, "Coming here feels like coming home," and I too wish to return to Fukiya again.

    You can relax and unwind.

I stayed with a friend, as both of our birthdays are in September. The Room was designed to ensure privacy, allowing us to enjoy a quiet and relaxing time. Both dinner and breakfast were plentiful and delicious. Thank you for kindly replacing the Japanese-style table with a Western-style table and chairs for my comfort due to my leg pain. The attentiveness of the staff in charge of the Room was exceptional. This makes it a great choice for bringing elderly guests as well. I look forward to visiting again.

    Regarding bedding

Customer Service: Excellent. From check-in to check-out, the staff's thoughtfulness was truly comforting. Onsen: The onsen was fantastic. In addition to the regular bath, we enjoyed a reserved open-air bath and another open-air bath available for use if unoccupied. Cuisine: Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying. However, the portions might have been slightly too large for some. Bedding: The high-resilience mattress felt too firm for me, but my wife found it very comfortable. The pillow was too low, which caused some discomfort during sleep. Request: Regarding bedding, it would be great if guests could choose between low-resilience and high-resilience mattresses. The pillow height was too low for me; having an option to select pillow height would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

The best Ryokan experience & family-friendly Accommodation

I visited after reading the IKYU Concierge blog. It was our first trip since having a child, and: - Diapers and baby soap were provided. - Meals could be served in the room (and they were absolutely delicious). Additionally, the staff were very attentive to our child, making it a perfect first family trip. Also, I hadn't really understood how a Ryokan differs from a Hotel until now, but I experienced the hospitality of an authentic traditional Ryokan. It was a refreshing and highly satisfying Onsen accommodation experience.

Accommodation where you can enjoy a relaxing time

This was our second stay, requested to celebrate my husband's birthday. The room was beautifully arranged for summer, with bamboo screens and sudare creating a serene seasonal atmosphere. We enjoyed a relaxing soak in the Onsen and had a delicious meal at chair seating, featuring seasonal dishes. The grilled ayu fish, especially the first catch of the season, was exceptionally tasty. During this time of year, there is also the Firefly Festival, which is a must-see. Although we didn’t mention it was a celebratory trip, we were touched by the thoughtful gestures and arrangements made for us. Thank you very much! Since we have pets at home, our stay can only be one night each time; however, we look forward to visiting again in the future!

    Satisfied.

It had been a while since we stayed at such a fully equipped Ryokan-style accommodation. The warm hospitality was truly satisfying. The meals were quite abundant. Both my spouse and I are big eaters who dislike leaving food, so we tried our best to finish, but it was more than enough. We left a little behind.
