The bath, Facility, and service were excellent, but the meals were terrible.

The bath, Facilities, and service were excellent, but the meals were terrible. The ingredients were not worth the price; in particular, the main meat was poor quality—tough and dry—and came in an extremely small portion of only three slices. There was also an unbelievably tough and unpleasant green bean sesame salad, and items like raw asparagus and raw eggplant that did not seem to be cooked at all—was this really the best you could do? The corn rice even had a strange odor... Do you taste-test before serving? The Room and bath were absolutely outstanding, but if I think I might be served that meal again, I never want to stay here again. Everything except the meals was excellent. Thank you very much. I hope things will improve.

    The moment we steppe...

The moment we stepped into our split-level Room facing the river and surrounded by lush greenery, we could feel the fresh airflow. The private baths, available without a Reservation whenever you feel like stopping by, are each thoughtfully designed and a pleasure to try, and the large public bath is spacious and deeply relaxing. Meals in the dining area are high-quality dishes that make the most of local ingredients, and we also loved the wide selection of all-inclusive drinks. Finishing with coffee and dessert in the lounge made for an outstanding dinner experience. The next morning, after enjoying an early bath, we had an excellent breakfast with items like dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet) and freshly grilled kinmedai (splendid alfonsino). Thanks to the staff’s warm smiles and exceptional hospitality, we enjoyed a truly wonderful getaway. We would love to return in another season.

    The food is terrible.

This Accommodation features detached villas scattered across a vast property, arranged in a circular layout. Maintaining this satoyama landscape must require considerable effort and cost, yet it is impressively well cared for while preserving comfort. The cleaning throughout the Facility was also thorough, and we were able to stay comfortably. However, if you expect a secluded hideaway, you may be disappointed. People gather during happy hour, and while the dining areas feel semi-private in places, most have no doors and are fully visible to people passing by. The main issue was the food. It felt like little was spent on ingredients, with an attempt to compensate through creative menu ideas; unfortunately, that did not translate into flavor, which was very disappointing. It was my first time at an Accommodation of this class where I didn’t find even a single dish delicious. I would be fine with discontinuing the all-inclusive plan—I'd rather they spend about JPY 4,000–5,000 per person more on ingredients.

    It was wonderful, as expected.

This is an Onsen Accommodation I had wanted to stay at for a long time. Each unit is a separate detached villa, and the Room was kept very clean and well maintained. I tried all of the private open-air baths, and each one had a wonderful atmosphere. The meals were truly excellent as rumored; both the dinner course and the set breakfast were delicious. The walking paths were also beautifully maintained, and by chance we were able to enjoy watching fireflies at just the right time. This is an Accommodation I would love to return to if I have another opportunity.

I definitely want to come again.

I found this Accommodation on a travel site and watched it on YouTube many times, which only made me want to visit more and more... I chose the dates on a bit of a gamble because I wanted to see fireflies, but unfortunately it rained... Even so, I was able to see squirrels and adorable little birds. I chose a Room with an open-air bath, but since it rained quite heavily, I didn’t have many chances to use it, which was a bit disappointing. Still, I tried every bath—twice each—and was very satisfied. I often see comments saying the water is hot, but perhaps because there was so much rain, two of them felt lukewarm. I prefer hotter water, so that actually suited me well. It really comes down to personal preference. Because it’s surrounded by nature, having lots of insects is unavoidable. However, if you’re not good with bugs, you may need to be prepared as summer approaches. There were insects like longhorn beetles and stag beetles in the baths and along the corridors... The food used wholesome ingredients and was beautifully presented—such a feast for the eyes as well. Since it’s all-inclusive, I enjoyed plenty of sake. When I asked for small pours of every type, they brought them in very beautiful ochoko cups. Dinner was wonderful, and breakfast was just as amazing—I ended up getting seconds until I couldn’t eat another bite... The vegetables are truly delicious. Opening the window in my Room and listening to the rain and the river while lying on the tatami. Sitting perfectly still in the bird salon watching squirrels. I felt genuinely healed by nature and had such a comfortable time. Many of the staff were young, but everyone provided courteous service. Maybe it was their way of speaking—and their overall atmosphere—but it felt calming and soothing. Everything about Daikon no Hana made me want to come back—and even after returning home, I immediately wanted to go again...

Every spot was a soothing, relaxing space!!

Everything felt fresh for us as an elderly couple, and we found it soothing no matter where we were in the space. Not only was the Accommodation wonderful, but all the staff were great too! It was a lovely stay. We would like to stay again next June.

It felt like a vegetarian Buddhist meal, and I also had concerns about the cleanliness.

I was disappointed as soon as I entered the Room. I won’t go into details, but the staff responded quickly and apologized; however, it made me wonder if cleaning at this Ryokan means just picking up visible trash. Don’t they vacuum the entire guest room? There is no body soap provided in the shower room. I assumed the hand soap at the sink also doubles as body soap and used that. There’s no brush either. The face towels are thin and feel cheap. The outdoor view is lush and refreshing, but the chairs in the living area are uncomfortable even for sitting. Since there is plenty of space, I wish there were a sofa large enough to lie down on. There doesn’t seem to be any ventilation in the toilet, does there? They had something like an ineffective deodorizing spray, but I think it’s better to bring your own. The food features fresh vegetables, which are good, but for meat there was only meat sushi, and there were no sashimi-style dishes. It was my first time trying raw asparagus; it wasn’t bad, but I prefer it lightly cooked. I could sense the chef’s commitment, but overall it felt lacking. It was almost like vegetarian Buddhist cuisine. The Onsen options include more than just what’s in the guest rooms (Rooms), so people who like Onsen will probably enjoy them. Those who enjoy alcohol will also appreciate being able to drink plenty. Seeing squirrels and small birds was soothing, and the building with its thick beams felt full of history. Still, even with a discount it came to over 140,000 yen for two people. It didn’t feel worth the price.

    Relaxation

The meals were outstanding—both dinner and breakfast truly delighted us. The morning seven-vegetable soup was so delicious I even had seconds of the tomato juice. The service was courteous, and we really appreciated all your help. This was our second stay, and we’d love to come back again. Thank you for such a relaxing time.

    We had a comfortable stay.

An Accommodation with a wonderful concept. In the detached Room surrounded by nature, the only sounds you hear are birds singing—not noise from neighboring rooms. The open-air bath tour is great fun! The small events are a nice touch as well. Even though it’s an Onsen Accommodation deep in the mountains, there are many young staff members, and their energetic service with warm smiles feels great. The all-inclusive plan—where you can order as much as you like—was the best. I’d love to come back in a different season and stay in a different Room.

■One of Miyagi’s finest accommodations, where fresh greenery and an onsen soothe you

We stayed here on our first family trip to Miyagi. This time we used two Rooms, “Sugi” and “Momiji.” Both were clean, comfortable Rooms with private Onsen, and we had a very relaxing stay. The in-room refrigerator was well stocked with drinks, and everything was free as part of the all-inclusive plan. The window screens are sturdy, so you can open the windows fully and enjoy the fresh air. Walking around inside and outside the property, you catch a gentle forest scent, and the air truly feels wonderful. Since it was the season of fresh greenery, everything was beautifully green and soothing. Even the birdsong—and frogs at night—felt calming; this is an Accommodation where you can immerse yourself in nature. In addition to the in-room bath, there is a large public bath and four private baths, so the bathing options are excellent. We recommend checking in early—you’ll have more time to relax on-site and appreciate what makes this place special. Our top recommendation among the private baths is “Passing Shower.” The sound of the stream was incredibly soothing, and the open feeling of being surrounded by nature was amazing. The Onsen in the large public bath had a satisfying mineral-rich quality that really felt like true hot-spring water. Many of the staff seemed young, but their service was polite and attentive, making our stay very pleasant. The lounge amenities were also impressive: around eight kinds of ice cream—including GODIVA—and milk, coffee milk, Pocari Sweat (sports drink), and mineral water available freely 24 hours a day. Personally, I got hooked on “Japanese-style pecan nuts chocolate”—it was so good I kept going back for more. The meals were gently seasoned and beautifully presented. The drink pairings matched well too, so it’s highly recommended for anyone who enjoys alcohol. For your final course you can choose soba or rice; since both can be ordered in small portions, we recommend getting both. Everything—including dessert—was delicious. If you’re looking for an Accommodation in Miyagi Prefecture, this is a wonderful place I can confidently recommend. One small note: even if you don’t choose a Room with an open-air bath attached to it (rotenburo), you may still feel it’s more than enough because the large public bath (open 24 hours) and private baths are so well equipped. Also, during our stay the hot water in our in-room bath ran quite hot—so hot that adjustment was necessary—which felt slightly inconvenient at times. On the other hand, both the large public bath and private baths were at a comfortable temperature and very enjoyable to use.

    We stayed here for t...

We stayed here for the first time to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. We were blessed with good weather that day, and since we had some time before check-in, we enjoyed a trek in Minami Zao (up to Shibakusadaira) before arriving. The private open-air bath was incredibly relaxing and completely melted away our fatigue. At “Donguri Cottage,” there was complimentary Yebisu beer and mojitos. The mojito, made with plenty of homegrown mint, was especially refreshing and far easier to drink than ones you’d find at bars in town. At dinner, we enjoyed a truly luxurious time choosing drinks to pair with each dish. There were also sweets afterward and even a late-night snack prepared for us—everything was extremely satisfying. The next morning, we woke up a bit early and visited the “Kotori Salon,” where we even got to see an adorable squirrel. We were able to savor breakfast at a leisurely pace as well, making it a thoroughly satisfying stay. Throughout our visit, the hospitality from all the staff was outstanding, and my wife was delighted—saying she’d love to come back in another season. Thank you for making our anniversary so special.

    The trip from Kansai...

The trip from Kansai was well worth it. All the staff greeted guests with smiles and were always ready to help at the slightest inconvenience. The private open-air bath was elegant. Especially during a passing shower, I found myself thinking, “Is this really the changing area?”—the bath felt like it was deep in the forest, with a wonderfully rustic atmosphere that didn’t seem like it could be on Ryokan grounds. The cuisine wasn’t typical Kyoto-style kaiseki; instead, it made great use of local ingredients, and the mountain vegetables were distinctive and delicious. Personally, I would have preferred dishes featuring river fish rather than Sendai beef—something more in line with Miyagi’s mountainous regional cuisine. When traveling, you want to enjoy local food. At dinner we could choose soba or white rice, and at breakfast tomato juice or whey—but we ended up being able to enjoy both options, which we appreciated. In the Kotori Salon in the evening, we enjoyed a wonderfully aromatic mojito while watching small birds and squirrels. One concern was that there is no sink for handwashing in the restroom. Another is that the steps on guest walkways are very wide; I wondered if they might be difficult for some people to walk on. For our return trip we used a flat-fare taxi to the airport; having one available for arrival as well would be convenient. Thank you for a fulfilling stay.

    Third visit!

This was my first visit in spring. It turned into a truly special day, and as always, everything was wonderful. The scenery is completely different depending on the season, and in spring I was soothed by the pleasantly cool breeze! I’m looking forward to coming back in summer next time. Thank you very much!

An Accommodation that offers great value for the price

This Accommodation was packed with the best of a location that can only be reached by car. The open-air bath was simply wonderful, and I went in many times. There are lots of thoughtful touches, but how much you enjoy them is up to you—that’s what makes it great. The food presentation was also lovely. It’s far, but I’d love to visit again!

A Stay After a Long Time Away

It was my first visit in about three years. The view from the Room and the private open-air bath was full of lush greenery, and it was incredibly soothing. Dinner was delicious, featuring seasonal local ingredients such as wild mountain vegetables and bamboo shoots. For the final dish, we could choose either rice or handmade soba, but when I couldn’t decide because I wanted both the soba and the bamboo shoot miso soup, they kindly prepared both for me. The service staff were mostly young, but everyone was cheerful, responsive, and greeted us with smiles. While waiting for coffee or tea after breakfast, I was watching a video of my cat; a female staff member noticed and said, “Please show me again when you stay with us next time,” which made me very happy. Even if it was just polite conversation, I truly appreciated both the feeling of “please come again” and her saying my cat was cute. This wasn’t the Accommodation’s fault, but at night in one of the private baths (Asakaze), what seemed to be a couple in their 30s were watching something—maybe TV or videos—at a volume loud enough to be heard even in the neighboring private bath. I wanted to enjoy the Onsen quietly, so that was very disappointing. Also at Asakaze: when I bathed in the morning, an e-cigarette had been dropped on the walkway from the changing area to the open-air bath. It made me think someone had been smoking while bathing, which was also disappointing. I’ve never encountered inconsiderate guests here before, so I think this time I was just unlucky. After staying again for the first time in a while, it reminded me how much I love Daikon no Hana. I’d like to visit again. Thank you very much.

    8th Stay

I’ve stayed in a different type of Room each time so far, and this time again I was able to relax at ease. Not that I’m trying to boast that this was my eighth stay, but it always makes me happy to hear “Thank you as always,” “Welcome back,” or “We’ve been expecting you.” It was disappointing not to hear that warm greeting this time—perhaps because the staff has changed. Even if the staff changes, I believe it’s something you could tell from the records. True hospitality is about “only now,” “only here,” and “only for you.” Come to think of it, even when I called in advance, there wasn’t that same warmth—no “Thank you for calling” or “We look forward to welcoming you.” I may be complaining too much, but please take this as constructive feedback because I want your Accommodation to become even better. Also, thank you very much for the complimentary chawanmushi for my partner’s birthday.

    Private open-air bath

This time, I stayed in the “Blue Moon” Room. When making the Reservation, I had a hard time choosing which Room type to book, but it was very comfortable. I also tried all four private open-air baths. Each time, they were freshly cleaned and felt great. The open-air bath in the Room was wonderful as well. For breakfast, I wanted to check out a little early, but it was only available from 8:30 a.m., and the food took a while to come out, so it felt rushed. For in-room amenities, I would appreciate items such as a hairbrush and hair ties.

The perfect level of dimness creates an atmosphere of a mountain accommodation.

A covered walkway surrounds the premises from the front desk, with each room scattered along this walkway. At night, the dimly lit walkway creates a memorable and atmospheric experience. While the accommodation has a charming ambiance, there may be some inflexibility regarding late-night meals.

It was another perfect two days, just like last time. Although it was a bit chilly this season, the weather was great, and I didn’t feel the cold from the wind at all, allowing me to fully enjoy the Onsen. Completely satisfied for the 8th time!

This was my 8th visit, but I had never stayed in the same room by chance. Now, I'm aiming to stay in all 18 rooms! During dinner, when my companion was sniffling due to sinusitis, the staff discreetly provided tissues and a trash bin. Not only that, they kindly shared advice: "Soaking in an Onsen at around 42°C for about 15 minutes might help with sinusitis." This is true hospitality! The simmered whole radish dish was also delicious.

Perfect for solo travelers! It became a wonderful memory!

I stayed with my family, but I thought it would also be nice to stay alone as a treat. I’d love to visit in every season—spring, summer, autumn, and winter (though I’m not a fan of bugs). The service, hospitality, and cuisine made me feel this way. Regarding insects, we stayed with the mindset that we were guests in their natural habitat. However, if there’s ever an issue, the staff is ready to assist. Despite being surrounded by nature and preparing ourselves for it beforehand, the Ryokan was incredibly clean and left us impressed. Since we didn’t have a car, we took a bus and walked to the Ryokan. From Sendai Station’s Bus Stop No. 33, you can take an express bus for around 1,000 yen to Togatta Onsen. From there, it’s about a 20-minute walk to the accommodation. Walking on snowy paths also seems like fun! For those who don’t mind walking much—it’s recommended as you can imagine your stay at the accommodation or share thoughts along the way. I’ll work hard again so I can return someday. Thank you for everything!

    It was okay.

Stayed on the Friday before the long weekend in late November. The private open-air bath was cold, so it was tough unless I warmed up in the indoor bath first. There were times when I couldn't use certain private baths because they were always occupied. There was no water available in the bathing area, so I had to go to the Kotori Salon for a drink. The meals were delicious, and the service struck a perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive.

Will it continue to evolve endlessly?

This was our fourth stay at the accommodation after five years. The staff were kind and had wonderful smiles. In particular, the female staff member who guided us to our room and the dining area for breakfast and dinner left a lasting impression with her kindness. Another highlight was the meals. We heard that the head chef had changed since our last visit, but we couldn't stop saying how delicious everything was. We believe "Daikon no Hana" is an accommodation that evolves with every visit.

    I felt rejuvenated in nature.

The previous night, I stayed at the same group's Yutomori Club, but the completely different concept here made for an equally enjoyable experience. The room and each facility seamlessly blended with the surrounding forest and nature, creating a truly remarkable atmosphere. I initially imagined the meals would consist of simple countryside dishes centered around vegetables, but they exceeded my expectations in a wonderful way. The aroma and flavor of the vegetables were skillfully enhanced, awakening every cell in my body with each bite. The rich broth further elevated the taste, perfectly complementing seafood and meat dishes as well. The bath featured a low-tonicity neutral high-temperature onsen. I enjoyed both the large public bath (Ginyanma) and private open-air baths (Asakaze and Yukimachi). Yukimachi was particularly memorable—it felt like bathing beside Oirase Stream while gazing at the valley below. For breakfast, the smoothie made from seven types of vegetable potage was exquisite; it felt like it awakened my body for a fresh start to the day. The rolled omelet was also outstanding—the flavors of egg and broth harmonized beautifully, making it one of the best I've ever had. The room "Tamayura" (reminiscent of sunlight filtering through trees or gentle stream sounds) felt like a private villa nestled in nature. Of course, I was deeply impressed by how attentive and well-coordinated all staff members were. Onsen Sanso Daikon no Hana is definitely one accommodation I would love to revisit many times over. Thank you to all staff members for your hospitality!

A trip for four: mother, aunt, and a couple

We stayed for one night during a trip with my spouse, my mother, and my aunt. We stayed in "Sugi," while my mother and aunt stayed in "Nazuna." In conclusion, we are definitely planning to return. The service was excellent, truly giving the feel of a luxury accommodation. The facility was also very clean. I have a strong fear of centipedes, but I felt completely at ease as there was no sign of anything like that appearing. The meals were delicious, and even my mother and aunt, who are quite particular about taste, were very pleased. The staff kindly answered all the questions from my talkative mother and aunt by saying it was an opportunity for them to learn as well; they researched thoroughly and responded promptly. My wife is already thinking about which room to stay in next time! Since Miyagi is a place with personal connections for us, we plan to visit again in the future. Thank you for providing such comfortable service! We look forward to staying with you again!
