    It was comfortable.

I have stayed here many times, and the staff are always very courteous. The Room was clean, and I had a comfortable stay.

Ideally located right in front of Nara Station—perfect for sightseeing.

Nikko Hotels vary by location, but Nikko Nara is right in front of JR Nara Station. I had informed them in advance about my late-night check-in, so everything went smoothly. The staff explanations were also very courteous. The Facility itself felt old, but it has been thoughtfully maintained, and of course it was spotlessly clean. What was disappointing, though, was that I was told there is a large public bath. When I went after 9 p.m., it was beyond crowded with people packed in, so I left without bathing. I’d like them to help guests avoid peak times so it’s easier to use. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety and was good overall, but the soups were surprisingly salty—I ended up diluting them with hot water. Since this is Kansai, I would have liked more emphasis on dashi flavor. They also had Nara’s local specialty “kaki-no-ha sushi,” so I really enjoyed the regional cuisine. Next time, I’d like to take things a bit slower and enjoy the Hotel stay more.

    The facilities are a challenge.

[Good Points] - When I went to leave my luggage before check-in, there were combination lockers, which was convenient. An older staff member assisted me politely and even gave me a sightseeing map. - Very close to JR Nara Station, and you can get to the Hotel without getting wet even when it rains. There’s an AEON-affiliated supermarket at the station, and plenty of shops nearby, so you won’t have trouble finding somewhere to eat. - Welcome drinks are available on the 1st floor: six types of sake, two types of wine, coffee/tea, boxed juices, etc. However, the space isn’t large and can get crowded, so it’s not a place to linger. - Free ice pops are available after using the bath. [Bad Points] - I stayed in Nara for four nights and wanted to do laundry, but there were only three washers and three dryers. Perhaps because there are many international guests, some people used the dryers for long cycles (up to two hours), so they were constantly occupied whenever I checked. Also, someone left finished laundry in a washer; I went to the front desk to ask staff for help but no one came for nearly 10 minutes. When they finally arrived (apparently mistaking it for a dryer), they hurriedly removed it while calling someone and put up a note saying it was being kept at the front desk. The staff member was kind, but realistically there’s no option other than removing it (either way someone will complain), so I don’t think this needed escalation. At another nearby Hotel I used the next day, they had washer-dryer combo units which were convenient, and there was clear signage stating that laundry left for 20 minutes would be removed by staff. Shouldn’t this Hotel also post similar guidance? - In the evening the lobby became noisy and crowded—apparently guests for a beer garden on the top floor of the Hotel. When I got into an elevator holding welcome-drink coffee in my hand, staff started directing that large group into the same elevator until it was packed tight; I almost got burned by my coffee. They were loud as well. It would have been better if hotel guests had been allowed to go first and groups directed to take the next elevator. [Other] - There is a large public bath area (not an Onsen). It isn’t very spacious either—nothing particularly noteworthy. [Overall] - I’ve stayed at Nikko Hotels elsewhere; as expected from Nikko Hotels overall service was friendly with helpful staff—but in terms of facilities/hardware my satisfaction was low here. - Over four nights in Nara I stayed at several places (Novotel Nara / Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nara / Nara Hotel), and this Nikko Hotel was unfortunately my least favorite among them.

    This Hotel is conveniently located.

Because “location” isn’t included among the review categories, the overall rating might look a bit low at first glance, but that’s not the case. The location—directly connected to the station—is extremely convenient. There is also a municipal parking garage directly connected underground, which makes it even more practical. This time I brought my bicycle by car and went cycling; I could start from the underground parking area and return there afterward, which made everything very easy and enjoyable. As this is a traditional Hotel, some parts of the Room feel a bit dated, but it’s spacious enough, the bed is comfortable, and I had a pleasant stay. If I had to mention one thing, I love coffee, so drip coffee would have been nice. Many Hotels now require you to tap your key card in the elevator to access guest floors, but at this Hotel you can go up normally without tapping your card key—personally, I like that too. Overall, it’s an easy-to-use and very convenient Hotel.

It’s definitely starting to feel a bit dated.

The large public bath for men was decent, but my wife complained that the women’s bath was extremely small. I’d like the description to state how many people it can accommodate.

I stayed for two nights for a trip to Nara. It was very convenient with direct access from JR Nara Station. My Room was on the 9th floor, with a great view, and I had a comfortable stay. All the staff were very kind and always greeted me with a smile, which made me very happy. When I asked how to get to sightseeing spots, a Hotel in Kyoto told me to just check Google Maps and didn’t help much, but every staff member here explained things kindly and clearly. It was more convenient and faster than what I found online, so it really helped. The large public bath felt crowded all the time because the changing area is small and there aren’t many lockers. It was helpful that I could check how crowded it was via QR code. I also appreciated the free ice cream. The breakfast buffet was nice because there were different items on the first and second day. They also stored my luggage both before check-in and after check-out, which was a big help. I would like to stay here again when I visit Nara.

    Comfortable Hotel Nikko Nara-like experience

This was my first time staying at a Hotel in Nara. Hotel Nikko Nara is right next to the station, and I had a clear view of Mt. Wakakusa from my Room. While waiting before check-in, there was a drink bar beside the front desk with coffee, local sake, and wine, so I could relax. The Hotel itself is old, but it was very clean. The Room I reserved had a separate bath and toilet, and the bathroom included a washing area, which made my stay comfortable. Since it’s just a short walk to the station, I could buy kakinoha-zushi at a shop inside the station for dinner, and also pick up MOS Burger early in the morning when it opens. The underground parking was also reasonably priced. Kofuku-ji Temple is about 15 minutes away by car as well, making it convenient for sightseeing.

Convenient access to central Nara City

This was my first time staying here. I took a relaxed solo trip during Golden Week. Above all, the access from JR Nara Station is excellent. It’s an recommended Hotel because you can easily walk to the heart of Nara sightseeing, and it’s also convenient to get around from the bus stop. As a historic Hotel, I was looking forward to it as well. The Room was spacious, and I was able to relax and lounge around during my time at the Hotel. Staying on a high floor was great, but perhaps out of consideration for the surroundings, the windows were tinted with smoke film, which was a bit disappointing (though understandable). Breakfast included Nara specialties and local signature dishes. The persimmon butter was delicious, so I bought some to take home. Everyone guided me kindly with smiles. Thank you very much.

We look forward to improved hospitality.

While I accepted that the Room was old and small, I was disappointed by how curt the front desk staff were. When I asked if there was a place to park my bicycle, they only said, “No.” Since there was a spot under the JR overpass nearby, please guide guests there if you receive similar questions.

    Nara is the best!

This was my first stay at Hotel Nikko Nara. It was convenient to be able to enter the Hotel right away from the station. There was also a limousine bus from Itami, so I could get to the Hotel easily. The Room bathroom was old-style and small, so it was a bit inconvenient to use. I also visited the large public bath once, but it was small and crowded. Other than that, I had a comfortable stay.

    My First Disappointment

I used to choose Hotel Nikko Nara for my stays in Nara because the breakfast buffet was so good, but this time was disappointing. The Middle Twin Room on a half-price Plan—one of those “lucky if you find it” deals—had a sink faucet that was so stiff no water would come out. After I called the front desk and had someone open it, it started dripping and leaking. I’ve stayed in both the Large Twin and Standard rooms before, but even the size of this Room made me wonder: is this really a Middle Twin? Since I had a no-meals Plan, I made my first Reservation for Serena’s dinner buffet and was looking forward to it, but that was also disappointing. Even though it was dinner, it was far inferior to breakfast. There were no Nara specialties and nothing I found particularly tasty—just ordinary items lined up. In the end, I settled for curry rice. The breakfast used to offer Nara flavors, warm dishes, and thoughtfully prepared food. Now I don’t even feel like checking what breakfast is like anymore—I ate outside instead. Because this is a Hotel I love, it makes me sad.

    Safety

When I returned from going out, my Room door was open. I was told it had been left unclosed after the towel replacement. Even if housekeeping came in the morning, it meant the Room had been accessible to anyone for over six hours. Nothing was missing, but I felt uncomfortable and threw away items I brought from home such as my toothbrush and supplements. Since medication is not easy to replace immediately, I checked that it was sealed before taking it, but it still did not feel good. They changed my Room for me, but that was not the point—this incident shook my trust in what a Hotel should be.

The breakfast was excellent, and the location was perfect.

I was most impressed by the high quality of the breakfast. Although it was crowded, the selection was extremely satisfying, featuring local dishes such as Kasujiru from Kofuku-ji and Miwa somen, as well as roast beef and salmon. In addition to the great location near the station, I was able to use late check-out until 1:00 p.m. as a Diamond member benefit, which made it a real luxury to relax even after breakfast. My Room was upgraded to a larger type, but the only disappointment was that the bathroom felt as small as one in a Business Hotel, which seemed a bit lacking compared with the Room’s size. Aside from the bathroom size, both the service and meals were excellent, and it’s a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again.

    We had a wonderful time.

Thank you for your suggestions for the Roku-chan Room. We’re also cherishing the kofun cushion we purchased at home. Although we originally planned to stay overnight, we ended up enjoying many things more than expected. We were able to stay until late and relax at our own pace. Thank you very much for everything.

    Winter in Nara

I have stayed here several times. It is conveniently located near the station. I like accommodations with large public baths, which is why I choose this place, but the changing room feels too small. When it gets crowded, it becomes quite inconvenient. There were even groups of three people sharing one space. Although there was one available locker, its lock didn’t work. Would it be possible to make the changing room about twice as spacious?

    Room and Services

    - Services available through the One Harmony membership cannot be availed when booking via IKYU. - There was an unpleasant odor in the Room, and even after using deodorizer, it did not disappear, so we requested a Room change.

A Hotel with Everything You Need

The facility shows some age, and the public bath may feel small compared to its capacity, but it is sufficient. However, it was disappointing that the breakfast time and morning public bath hours overlapped, making it difficult to enjoy both.

    A questionable moment

At checkout, I handed the room key to the front desk with a polite bow and "Thank you for your hospitality," but the staff responded with an unwelcoming attitude, leaving both my wife and me disappointed. The accommodation is directly connected to the station, making it very convenient, and we have used it several times. However, is this reflective of today's standards? The breakfast service was exceptional with attentive table guidance and support, which made the contrast even more noticeable. I hope for improved service quality by our next stay.

    Finally! (lol)

This was my third visit, and my husband's first. We thoroughly enjoyed everything, from the welcome drink to the Nara-style breakfast and the large public bath. For me, it was actually my first time using the public bath during this stay! It felt like I was able to fulfill all the things I missed out on during my previous visits. Although it's a bit far from Kyoto, we had a relaxing and enjoyable time here. The breakfast allowed us to savor delicious local specialties—thank you so much for that! We also received some insider tips from locals at various places we visited, which made our trip even more special. The people here are so warm and welcoming. We'll definitely come back again to see you! Thank you very much!

    2-night, 3-day stay....

2-night, 3-day stay. You can enjoy Nara's sake and more in the lounge. I completely forgot and ended up having coffee nearby instead... The lobby is spacious with a decorated Christmas tree. There are three elevators, so waiting time is minimal. However, the building is quite large. After getting off the elevator on the 9th floor, it takes a U-shaped walk to reach your Room. The changing room and bathroom feel small for this capacity. Saturday was extremely crowded. The Room feels a bit old-fashioned. Despite some issues, as a Diamond member, I had a 1 PM checkout and received various accommodations; packing my luggage was troublesome but got upgraded on the second day! Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep at all on the first night—even after having an 8-glass pairing dinner at Accord! Being directly connected to JR Nara Station made it convenient for heading to Kyoto for the Shinkansen back to Tokyo!

    Conveniently located near the station.

The Room and breakfast were very satisfying. The public bath was crowded, possibly due to timing, and the changing room felt small and congested. It would be convenient to have amenities like lotion available in the changing room. If not possible, placing them near the reception for guests to take upon check-in might be a better option. The direct connection to the station was excellent, and it was convenient to store luggage in lockers before check-in.

    I expected a prestigious Hotel.

Close to the station, I had high expectations for a prestigious Hotel. This time, I stayed in a double room, but the room size, amenities, and the outdated Facility were at the level of a Business Hotel. If considered as a Business Hotel, it is good; however, I question whether it matches the price. Additionally, displaying numerous items for sale on the front desk seems to disregard the prestige expected of a Hotel, which was disappointing. That said, all staff members, including cleaning staff, provided excellent service and that was redeeming.

For your trip to Nara, stay at Hotel Nikko.

Close to JR Nara Station with excellent access. Breakfast offers a wide variety, including local Nara dishes, and is delicious. We stayed with a very affordable plan this time. There is a large public bath to soothe your tired legs after walking a lot. A very reliable and excellent hotel. However, only one room key is provided, which is inconvenient when two people stay in a twin room. We hope this can be improved.

Wonderful Memories of Your Nara Trip

We stayed at the Hotel during our trip to Nara as three middle-aged sisters. The guest room, large public bath, breakfast buffet, and above all, the staff's hospitality were truly wonderful. We asked many questions, and they responded very clearly and politely. Thank you so much. The night view of the buildings in front of the station from our window also became a memorable part of our stay. It felt like time was flowing slowly, and we were very satisfied with our experience. We would definitely like to use this Hotel again when visiting Nara and would recommend it to friends as well. One thing that surprised us was the security at the entrance to the large public bath for men and women—I wondered if it was secure enough or if there might be a chance of entering by mistake. If I were alone, I might feel a bit uneasy about it.

The public bath is small, and there are few hair dryers, leading to long waits to use them. The breakfast venue was not a restaurant but a banquet hall, which felt outdated and disappointing. The only saving grace was its proximity to the station.

The breakfast is excellent, but the facilities are slightly outdated.

The breakfast is excellent. While Nara has fewer major local specialties that appeal to everyone, the menu offers a wide variety of dishes to experience the flavors of Nara. On the other hand, the overall age of the Facility cannot be overlooked, and particularly, the water facilities in guest rooms feel somewhat inconsistent with the standards of a Nikko brand.
