    A Classic Hotel

I arrived in Otaru late and took a taxi from the station. It was just under 3,000 yen, and the driver said he often brings guests to this Hotel, so it was an enjoyable ride with helpful guidance along the way. The front desk staff were very courteous and left a great impression. It felt like they carefully maintain and repair an older Facility while continuing to use it with care. Dinner was a set course; I initially thought the pasta portion might be small, but it wasn’t—I ended up completely full. The in-Room bath was nice, but the changing area floor in the large public bath is carpeted; preferences may vary, but I chose not to use it. The Room had plenty of space even for two people. It was a bit disappointing that the tea set and refrigerator were inside a cabinet door and not easy to find. The view from the window was wonderful as well, with a full view of the sea. On departure, they drove me to Otaru Aquarium, and the driver was truly kind—I received help in many ways throughout my stay. I’m grateful for the heartfelt hospitality from all the staff. When I visit Otaru again, I would definitely like to stay here. Thank you very much.

The Hotel perched on a cliff is amazing.

A Hotel perched on a sheer cliff. I was a little anxious until I arrived. Considering the rain, wind, and snow in that setting, maintaining the building’s exterior must be very costly, yet the rates are reasonable. The Room furnishings may be old, but they are high quality and well maintained, making it very comfortable. Because of the cliffside location, the view from the Room is outstanding. The in-room bath is spacious and also offers an amazing view. Best of all, you can fully open the sliding window for a wonderful sense of openness—even watching seagulls dive right in front of you. In addition, both dinner and breakfast were excellent French cuisine, and the staff service was attentive; everything left me completely satisfied. Dining while watching the sunset was a special, unforgettable experience. I also think it’s a great system that you can choose souvenirs via the TV’s online service—it lets you take your time deciding during your stay. I could really feel what this Hotel values in its hospitality, and it made for an extremely satisfying trip. In an age when “good” often simply comes with paying more, I was truly delighted with this level of hospitality at this price!

The exterior wall paint job is terrible.

When we arrived and looked at the walls, the paint was peeling, the stairs were left cracked without repair, and bags of soil for the flower bed were left by the entrance in plain sight. It instantly took the excitement out of what should have been a special trip. The service and food are certainly good, which makes this all the more disappointing. Because I trusted IKYU’s recommendation, that trust has been shaken. I sincerely hope you will conduct an on-site inspection before continuing to list this property.

    We stayed in a corne...

We stayed in a corner Japanese-Western style Room. It was very spacious and relaxing. The in-Room bath also had a large tub, so we could soak comfortably. It’s a bit dated, but we liked the retro atmosphere. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. In particular, the Shiraoi beef filet steak was very filling and we were completely satisfied! The seafood appetizer was well seasoned, the abalone was large, and everything was delicious! The breakfast pot-au-feu had a gentle flavor and felt comforting. We were also happy to be able to enjoy sparkling wine in the morning—and it was delicious! One disappointing thing was that although all Rooms are non-smoking, there was a slight smell of cigarette smoke. I’m not sure if someone broke the rules or if it wasn’t non-smoking in the past, but since we don’t usually smoke or stay around smoke, it stood out. To be honest, it was only “kind of… (cigarettes?)” level, but because we would definitely like to stay here again next time as well, I wanted to mention it in hopes that it can be improved. It’s a little away from central Otaru, but with a car it’s no problem at all. With its quiet setting and wonderful views, we highly recommend it!

    Everything was perfect!!

I made a Reservation for the Junior Suite (Double, Non-Smoking) (Double). The Room was cute with a great view, and my girlfriend was thrilled. Thank you for changing our dinner from in-room dining to a window-side table at the restaurant where we could see the sunset. The French cuisine and drinks while watching the sunset were exceptional. The sommelier explained the dishes and wines in detail, which made everything even more enjoyable. The bath in the Room was wonderful as well—everything was perfect. When I come to Otaru, I will definitely want to stay at this Accommodation again.

    Beautiful sunsets

I traveled with my family as a pair. Our Room had a private Onsen, so I didn’t use the public bath and instead enjoyed it in the evening and again in the morning. The meals were authentic creative French cuisine. There were optional add-on dishes as well—I switched to a beef steak, and the shrimp bisque soup was especially delicious. It was a shame that clouds covered the sun at the very end of sunset, but it was still beautiful enough. The furniture and bed sofa were lovely too. The property is located further up the hill past Otaru Aquarium, and the view was beautiful. Breakfast was too much for me—sorry for leaving so much behind.

    The meals were absolutely outstanding.

During this one-week trip from central to southern Hokkaido, this was the most memorable meal. Although there were not many dishes, each one was prepared with great care and ingenuity, making it an exceptional dining experience rarely found in recent years. The bread they take pride in was also delicious. The dessert in particular was a masterpiece unlike anything I have come across lately. I later learned that the executive chef and the general manager are the same person—another surprise. The classic furniture gave a sense of history, and the warm wood created a calm, relaxing atmosphere. To be honest, the building does show its age, but the food more than makes up for it. This is an Accommodation I would like to visit again.

    I made a Reservation...

I made a Reservation because I heard you can enjoy the sunset from the bath. The in-Room bath was satisfying, but unfortunately it was cloudy that day, so I couldn’t enjoy the sunset. The meals were described as a creative French course dinner using local ingredients and a “creative breakfast,” but I didn’t really feel much creativity, which was a bit disappointing.

The views are stunning, and the food is excellent.

Reason for selection: The reviews from previous guests were positive, the meals were excellent, and the views were great. Overall, the ratings were very high. As a result of my stay: The meals—their content, portion size, and quality—were all outstanding. I had been to the area many times before, but I didn’t know there was such a building tucked away back there. If I have another chance, I would like to stay again.

    Not worth the price.

Based on the information provided in advance, there were many positive comments, but the Room we stayed in had a small window, was dark, and did not feel relaxing at all. The service level was comparable to a Business Hotel, which was very disappointing for an Accommodation during Golden Week. The Facility also felt outdated, and it ruined our holiday.

Neither dinner nor breakfast suited my taste at all. Also, despite being far from the station, I was unable to make a reservation the day before because the Shuttle Service bus is small. In that case, I think increasing the number of trips would be an option, but there was no flexibility at all. I traveled a long way by plane and was really looking forward to it, so I was very disappointed.

The sunrise and sunset views from the room are stunning.

Stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is old, but the view from the room is very beautiful, with amazing sunrise and sunset. The breakfast menu is fixed and changes daily, but I wish I could choose my own salad. There are not enough fruits. The hotel's shuttle service is excellent. Reservation is required, but it runs every hour to Otaru Station, which was very convenient.

The quality of the meals has declined. Perhaps due to financial difficulties or a change in policy... Having both the fish course and main dish served on one plate was a bit disappointing.

    It became a wonderful memory.

I felt it was a sophisticated Hotel. I stayed here to celebrate his birthday, and the service was excellent. Everyone was very kind and attentive. The gentleman driving the Shuttle Service also shared many sightseeing spots in Otaru since it was our first visit, making it a satisfying trip. The view from the open-air bath attached to our Room (Oceanfront) was especially wonderful, and I found myself soaking in it every morning. He seemed to enjoy the private open-air bath, dinner, breakfast, and spacious bed. One disappointing point was that on the first night, the bed had a strong moldy smell which caused both of us to feel discomfort in our lungs and start coughing by the next day. However, after requesting sheet replacement for the second night, there was no longer any moldy smell—so we suspect it might have been due to the sheets. In hindsight, we should have asked for replacements on the first night. Another issue was that one of your foreign staff gave an overly brief explanation of breakfast items—it wasn’t clear at all! For example, they simply said "This is meat," which surprised me! Other than these points, we were very satisfied with this Hotel and had a wonderful trip overall. Thank you very much!

Room, the view from the open-air bath is amazing!

The view from the Room and the beauty of the sunset from the private open-air bath were exceptional. The meals were delicious and could be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The building has a retro feel, but it was well-maintained and very clean, making for a pleasant stay.

    The view was excellent.

Although located slightly away from Otaru city, the accommodation offers a spacious and relaxing environment with great value. The hotel has a slightly old-fashioned feel, but the interior is clean, hygienic, and beautifully decorated in a classic style. The view from the room was stunning; the sea appeared in a beautiful light blue color reminiscent of Shakotan Blue. Interestingly, when viewed from the observation deck next to the hotel, it didn’t appear as blue—proving that viewing angles matter. The meals for both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The staff were friendly and often greeted us with smiles. The bath featured soft water with sodium content that left my skin smooth and refreshed—I enjoyed it multiple times. Although compact, the large communal bath also included a cold bath and sauna facilities. I particularly loved using the private bathroom in my room repeatedly. The spacious room allowed me to relax comfortably during my stay. It was convenient to have cups and glasses provided in the room as well. One minor concern was that the lighting inside had a fluorescent tone designed for relaxation; however, it strained my eyes when looking at my smartphone for extended periods. A brighter light near the table would be helpful. I would love to stay here again when visiting Otaru! Thank you very much!

The Onsen is wonderful. Watching the sunset would be perfect.

Unfortunately, the weather remained stormy until the next day, which was disappointing. The Onsen had a perfect water temperature and was very enjoyable. However, it was unfortunate that there wasn’t any water available near the changing area after getting out of the Onsen. The indoor Onsen maintained its warmth well with a cover, providing a comfortable experience. The TV size was sufficient, but it was disappointing that Amazon services were not functioning properly. Additionally, the angle between the cabinet and bed made it inconvenient; I apologize for moving it without returning it to its original position. The UCC coffee drip in the Room wasn’t bad, but I would appreciate if cappuccino could be made available at the coffee maker in the lobby. Dinner featured a French course paired with Hokkaido wines—a great idea! The roast beef from sirloin instead of round cut was an excellent choice. The free-size nightwear provided was surprisingly small; however, I managed to get a 2L size upon request. The photo attached is taken at 9 AM when sunlight finally appeared—revealing beautiful ocean views after yesterday’s disappointment!

    Focusing all resources on dinner.

Stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is quite old. However, the room is not cleaned daily. Amenities are very basic. The private open-air bath in the guest room is nice, but the shower faucet stops after about 10 seconds, likely for water-saving purposes, which feels disappointing. The view is excellent. Dinner was very good, but breakfast was underwhelming. A full buffet-style breakfast might be better as the current setup feels incomplete.

    It was a stylish Hotel.

Although the exterior looked a bit worrying at first, the front lobby, Room, and restaurant all felt like they had been renovated in an antique style, creating a pleasantly surprising contrast. There was also a large public bath, but the Room had its own indoor bath spacious enough for three adults. The bedroom, toilet, and washbasin area were all in separate rooms as well, making it very comfortable and roomy. Located right next to the Shukutsu Panorama Observatory with a great view over Otaru Aquarium and the herring fishermen’s huts, it also offered an exceptional ocean view. On the other hand, there was an indescribable smell when getting off the elevator; it seemed to be coming from the in-room baths that are kept circulating at all times. If only this point were improved, it would be perfect. As for meals: dinner was a mini-course with just the right number of dishes and tasted nicely good overall; breakfast was a Western set that included pot-au-feu as well, so it felt a bit too much for me.

    It was excellent.

Stayed with my dog. The accommodation provided a well-prepared setup including a dog crate, toilet sheets, dishes, and towels. It was clean with no odors. The bath was very spacious, and the view from the room was excellent.

    Nostalgic

A hotel where you can enjoy a retro atmosphere. The facility is old but well-maintained, offering a nostalgic Showa-era charm. I stayed in the special room on the top floor this time, and the view from the private bath in the room was stunning, with excellent Onsen quality. For dinner, I was recommended a sunset dinner at check-in and decided to join. Thanks to that, I enjoyed a delicious meal while admiring a beautiful sunset. Overall, it was not outdated but rather an experience that evoked the good old days. Thank you very much!

The building is old, but the service is excellent.

Stayed for 2 nights (including 2 meals and breakfast). The meals were not quite to my taste. The bathwater was excellent (warmed up immediately after bathing and induced sweating). The bathroom in the room is described as open-air, but this seems a bit exaggerated... Opening the window makes it fully visible from the parking lot (east-facing room), so this needs consideration. The staff at the dining area spoke politely, which was satisfying. I used the complimentary coffee in the lobby several times during free moments, which was much appreciated. Looking forward to enjoying my next stay with RC!

    The expectations were too high.

I had high expectations for the meals, but they fell short. Perhaps upgrading would have been a better choice. Not knowing much, I went with the standard course, and was surprised when both the fish and meat dishes were served on one plate. In hindsight, it might make sense considering the price. However, it would have been helpful if this was made clearer in advance.

The main bath is currently under maintenance, and we regret that it is unavailable for use with gender rotation.

I was disappointed that I couldn't use the large bath due to a lack of prior information. Please ensure better communication in the future. On a positive note, the shuttle service driver was extremely kind and helpful, which left a great impression. The first encounter felt very important. If I have the chance, I would love to stay again.

    Birthday

Every year, my friend and I travel together to celebrate each other's birthdays. This time, we chose Hotel Neuschloss Otaru and are extremely satisfied. It's rare to find a hotel with a 360-degree ocean view, and the bathwater suited us perfectly. We also stayed here when the hotel first opened; it truly has an excellent location. We plan to visit again around August.

    Stunning Views and Delicious Meals

We found a barrier-free Room here, so I stayed for one night with my elderly mother in a wheelchair. The moment we entered the Room, my mother was overjoyed! She was also deeply moved by the delicious wine and food. She was almost in tears with happiness! Thank you to all the Hotel staff.

    Yukiakari no Michi

Last summer, when I came, the staff told me about it and I definitely wanted to come to Yukiakari, so I stayed for two nights. The shuttle service was arranged according to Yukiakari's schedule, which was helpful. However, it was disappointing that there was no information in advance. On the second day, I enjoyed the snowy scenery from the room bath in the morning and took several baths before taking a nap and then boarded the 3:30 bus to Otaru Station. The pick-up at 7 PM allowed us to leisurely enjoy Otaru's snow lights illuminated at night. For dinner, if you inform them in advance that you are not fond of venison or lamb, they will adjust the menu accordingly. Dinner is something we look forward to every night. I wish breakfast could be a bit more creative. It is a hotel where you can relax in your room's open-air bath without having to go to the large public bath.

    Breakfast

It would be nice if we could choose Japanese food for breakfast. On the second day, steamed Atka mackerel was served, but it didn't taste like Atka mackerel as the fat was gone. The steamed beef with bacon and eggs was a bit off-putting, as it was just tasteless meat.

    Spend an early Christmas

A particularly tall Hotel, it was like a location straight out of a movie. The view from the ocean-view open-air bath was wonderful, and both dinner and breakfast were exquisite dishes that we don't usually have, which my wife and I enjoyed with smiles. We would like to create another opportunity to visit again. On the way back, there was the Otaru Aquarium, and it was nice to see the dolphin and penguin shows.
