    All the staff were h...

    All the staff were hardworking and wonderful overall. The older gentleman with glasses was especially warm and attentive, and it was clear he kept a close eye on the younger staff as well. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. With foreign-owned chains on the rise, it was truly nice to see a long-established Hotel working so hard, and I felt the value for money was excellent. Since it was during the Obon holiday period, it was also heartwarming to see so many families, including three-generation groups, enjoying their stay together. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    Yunokawa Onsen Area

    This time, I stayed in the Yunokawa Onsen area in a Japanese-Western style Room. The Room felt spacious at around 55 m². The Room was clean, and the bed-making and overall upkeep were done nicely. However, it was disappointing that there was no basket or similar item provided to carry towels to the large public bath. These days, many Hotels and Ryokan with large public baths provide a basket or a bag big enough for towels. There was also a sauna and an open-air bath, but both felt rather small. We had a Multiple Night Stay for three nights, and I was satisfied because the dinner menu changed each day. Thank you very much for your hospitality. It became a wonderful memory!

    Comfortable

    Although we stayed for only one night, it was a very comfortable Accommodation. The room was thoroughly cleaned, and in addition to the amenities, there was a good selection of tea and mineral water provided, which made our stay very pleasant. (Filling up water at the washbasin can take away from the travel mood a bit.) When we visit Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen again, we would love to stay here again.

    Excellent value for money

    We stayed for two nights with breakfast and dinner included. Because we booked early, it was excellent value for money. The meals were delicious.

    Both the meals and the bath were excellent.

    This was our first stay. I don’t like buffet dining, so we chose the kaiseki course, and every dish was delicious. However, the courses were served a bit too quickly, and we would have liked to take our time and enjoy our drinks while eating. The baths were also excellent. We especially loved the rock open-air bath, as we prefer outdoor baths. We came as a couple, and we were both very satisfied.

    Arrive as a guest, leave feeling at home.

    I was truly delighted to experience such heartfelt hospitality—something rarely found even at luxury Accommodations in this area. The beef stew served at dinner on the first night is exceptional, and for guests on a Multiple Night Stay, it can be a reason to come back again. While many Accommodations offer nearly the same dinner menu even for a Multiple Night Stay, I was deeply impressed by the nightly dinners that reflect the pride and spirit of this long-established Accommodation in Hakodate.

    Excellent value for money

    It has been renovated, and the Room was very comfortable. The meals also felt like they offered great value for the price. I went with nine friends, and everyone said they would like to come again.

    A Getaway in Hakodate

    The Accommodation staff were very kind, and even though we were a large group and it was on the day, they arranged a charter taxi that is usually hard to book, so we were able to go sightseeing without any issues. The Room was also comfortable, the meals were delicious, and this is an Accommodation I highly recommend.

    Despite being an Onsen Ryokan, staff frequently entered the bath area, making it difficult to relax.

    A pair of staff members kept coming to the open-air bath, seemingly to check the temperature. They even climbed on the rocks, which was distracting and made it hard to relax. Couldn’t they do this when there are no guests? They came several times an hour, so I wasn’t sure if it was for maintenance or training younger staff. A large group arrived and got very noisy. We were moved to another available Room and were able to spend time quietly, but the loud voices of the women next door were still bothersome. Are the walls thin? For dinner, the Plan shown in the photos included beef, but ours was different. The strawberry yokan was a bit disappointing.

    Right after we arriv...

    Right after we arrived, a school trip group meant we couldn’t use the 1st-floor open-air bath... The large public bath on the 7th floor is small and only has an indoor bath, so we tried going at a different time, but from 20:00 another school trip group was scheduled to use it, so we couldn’t enter again. Even though we wanted to enjoy the Onsen several times, access was restricted twice, which was very disappointing. If school trip groups are coming, I wish this had been disclosed at the time of Reservation. Inside the hotel, elementary school children were running around, and the elevators were full of students so we couldn’t get on and had to wait for several minutes. What should have been a nice trip ended up as an unpleasant memory. It was good that we could stay for less than other places, but the meals were fairly standard—so I think it’s a great option for those who just want a place to sleep.

    We were very satisfied.

    This was my second stay, and I was very satisfied: the Room was spacious, and because meals were not buffet-style, I could dine at a relaxed pace and everything tasted great. The bath was also large, offering excellent value for money.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    I’ve visited Hakodate many times, but this was my first stay in Yunokawa Onsen. Choosing Hanabishi was the right decision. The meals were satisfying in both portion size and variety, and while the Facility shows its age, it was well cleaned and I stayed comfortably. The day before, I stayed at a Hotel near the station known for its breakfast, but at Hanabishi you can also make your own seafood bowl and it’s just as good. Personally, I preferred Hanabishi because I could enjoy breakfast at a more relaxed pace. The baths were spacious as well, and I was able to unwind and feel refreshed. From welcome to farewell, everyone at Hanabishi was friendly—I’d like to come back for a Multiple Night Stay next time.

    Customer Service Attitude

    This was my second stay, and the hospitality of every staff member was excellent. It takes about five hours by car from Sapporo, but it is a Hotel that makes me want to stay again.

    Very satisfied with our Multiple Night Stay!

    This time, we booked a two-meal plan for a Multiple Night Stay. On the second night, our dinner was upgraded and served in a different venue. We were able to relax and unwind in the Onsen. In the banquet hall, locals came dressed up, and the carpets, atrium ceiling, and garden all conveyed a wonderful sense of “good old tradition.” The value for money is truly excellent. We will visit again.

    It was excellent.

    The renovated Japanese-Western style room was very comfortable with the beds. We stayed on a reasonably priced plan with dinner and breakfast included, and the service was great—above all, the meals were excellent. I especially liked the clean rice dispenser that lets you serve just the amount you want. For breakfast, I topped the rice with salmon roe to make an ikura bowl—it was delicious. I would love to stay here again when I visit Hakodate.

    Excellent value for money

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of two nights with dinner and breakfast included. The Room had been renovated and was very clean, and they prepared a different dinner on the second night. They also provided a different type of Japanese sweet in the Room on the second day. I was simply amazed by what was offered for the price. Thank you very much.

    It was a cozy Room.

    This trip was a rare chance to show appreciation, so I traveled with my elderly parents. In the calm Room, we found a beautifully handwritten welcome letter, and we were truly happy to feel so warmly welcomed. We had a plan with breakfast and dinner, and both meals were excellent. I don’t usually eat that much, but I ended up eating more than usual. The lamb shabu-shabu in particular was wonderfully flavorful yet surprisingly mild—an unforgettable taste. The service was also attentive at all times, with staff always nearby and very professional. Many of the dining hall staff were young, but they kindly offered to take our family photo during the meal. It was only one night, but my parents were delighted to be able to relax in the private open-air bath in our guest room as well. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    The staff escorted us from the front desk to our room and kindly explained the various Facilities in the property. They were very friendly and pleasant.

    I’d love to visit again in a different season.

    Unfortunately, the weather was poor and the ground was slippery on the day we arrived in Hakodate, so we gave up sightseeing early and headed to the Accommodation. We arrived before 2:00 p.m., of course too early for check-in. When I asked at the front desk if we could rest in the lobby, they kindly told us our Room was ready and let us check in right away. Since it was a guest Room with an open-air bath, we were able to enjoy it early and warm up our chilled bodies, which we truly appreciated. Dinner was served in our Room, so we could relax and take our time—and every dish was delicious. The squid somen in particular was beautifully presented; when it arrived, it looked so impressive that I couldn’t help but exclaim. We also hadn’t realized there was a special perk included, but we were able to enjoy grilled dancing Ezo abalone as well. It was so fresh that while the attendant was preparing the grill net, it actually tried to escape off the plate—it made us laugh. That night, the wind was extremely strong and our Room wouldn’t warm up easily. It seemed that because of the gale-force winds, outside air kept being drawn into the Room through a vent. When we contacted the front desk, they kindly sealed the vent with tape for us. After that, the Room warmed up and we were able to sleep soundly. The next morning while we were having breakfast at the dining venue, our attendant came by to greet us. We’ve traveled to many places before, but no attendant has ever spoken to us again the next morning—so I was surprised and also felt genuinely touched. We also spotted one of the staff members who had sealed last night’s vent inside the venue, so after breakfast we thanked them again before returning to our Room. All of Hanabishi Hotel’s staff were wonderful and pleasant people, so when we visit Hakodate again, we would love to stay here again.

    Great value for money and delicious food!

    We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay, and the property and our Room were clean and comfortable. Dinner menus were completely different on the first and second nights, but both skillfully blended Japanese and Western dishes and were very delicious. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of options, and we were especially impressed by the sekihan (red bean rice). We would like to visit again. Excellent value for money.

    The lobby is cold.

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of three nights. The Onsen inside the building had a slightly strong disinfectant smell, but the open-air bath was very pleasant, and both the water temperature and cleanliness were excellent. The service felt neither particularly good nor bad overall, but it left a positive impression to see the older staff working proactively and seeming to enjoy their work. On the other hand, some of the younger staff did not seem very energetic. Dinner was delicious, with small changes each day. However, breakfast was the same menu every day, so if you are staying multiple nights you may get a bit tired of it. In-Room Service was very good. What was very disappointing was how cold the lobby and even inside the elevators were. When returning to my Room after bathing, it felt like you could catch a cold if you weren’t careful. It may be different in the main building, but if during winter you could set common areas inside the Accommodation a bit warmer, guests would be able to relax at an unhurried pace instead of walking quickly just to escape the cold. Even so, it’s an Accommodation I would like to use again next time I visit Hakodate.

    During my stay three...

    During my stay three days ago, I was bothered by noise, so this time I requested a corner Room. It helped, and I was able to sleep this time; however, I still used earplugs. Although it was not as bad as last time, I could still hear some noise. It is disappointing because the Room is very attractive—new, clean, and modern.

    As we are elderly, we requested a quiet Room in advance. We received an email reply saying, “We hope the surrounding guests will be quiet,” which is perfectly reasonable. However, despite both sides’ hopes, noises such as sliding doors opening and closing echoed loudly. We used the earplugs we had brought, but even so, loud noises around 2–3 a.m. were strong enough to get through them, and we were unable to sleep—an unfortunate outcome. That said, the Suehiro-tei Japanese-Western Room we stayed in previously was very relaxing, so perhaps it was simply bad luck with this new modern Japanese-style Room. In any case, it is worth noting that the Onsen and meals—true to this long-established inn’s traditions—were more than satisfying. We hope we can sleep during our stay three days from now.

    Excellent location and a wonderful breakfast.

    The access from the airport and to the streetcar was excellent. Dinner was average, but breakfast was outstanding. When I stayed at other Hotels in the Yunokawa Onsen area, the salmon roe at the breakfast buffet was small, but I was surprised that this Hotel’s salmon roe was large. It was very delicious. The Onsen baths were spacious and great, and it’s a Hotel with excellent value for money, so I would definitely like to stay here again when visiting Hakodate.

    I keep coming back.

    We stayed again. It’s a long-established Hotel, so the Facility isn’t new, but it feels very clean, and the renovated open-air bath is very relaxing. With dinner included, our children were satisfied and said they want to stay again. The value for money is great, which really helps us. We’ll be staying again, so thank you in advance.

    Hakodate Sightseeing Yunokawa Onsen

    Hanabishi Hotel is conveniently located with a bus stop (Hanabishi Hotel-mae) right in front of the lobby and just 2-3 minutes from the Yunokawa Onsen tram and bus stops, making it ideal for sightseeing using public transportation. The lobby exudes the charm of a traditional hotel, while the well-maintained courtyard offers both relaxation and a sense of upliftment. The room we stayed in was a Japanese-modern twin (renovated in June 2024). The toilet (with bidet) and bath (with tub) were separate, which was very convenient. The room amenities, furnishings, and spaciousness were more than sufficient. Doors are equipped with auto-locks, and two keys are provided per room. While not overly stylish, this onsen hotel provides a relaxing atmosphere perfect for unwinding. Both the rooms and all areas of the hotel were impeccably clean—a testament to both attentive staff efforts and active cleaning robots. The seventh-floor "Gagyu no Yu" offers great views; however, we found greater satisfaction at the first-floor "Garden Large Bath," which features soft water quality at an ideal temperature setting. Meals lived up to their reputation as highlighted by many reviews—both dinner and breakfast showcased exceptional effort. Dinner served as individual trays was absolutely delicious. Additionally, buffet-style offerings such as scallop rice, Sanpei soup, and desserts were outstandingly balanced between variety and taste—a unique take on buffet dining that left us highly satisfied. Breakfast also reflected Hakodate's renowned high standards with an impressive selection of dishes offering excellent flavor alongside generous portions. The hospitality provided by hotel staff exceeded our expectations with warm attentiveness throughout our stay. Upon arrival when asking about transport schedules to Goryokaku Tower but finding limited time before departure—they kindly offered to deliver our luggage directly into our room while promptly guiding us toward Hanabishi Hotel-mae bus stop instead—allowing us enough daylight hours atop Goryokaku Tower itself! On another rainy day during departure preparations—they proactively researched Mount Hakodate’s visibility conditions beforehand sharing helpful insights accordingly too! Post-stay follow-up included receiving thank-you notes regarding survey participation further solidifying positive impressions overall despite lacking direct flights connecting hometown routes nearby yet still leaving lasting desires returning someday soon again back here specifically thanks largely due towards memorable experiences staying within Hanabishi Hotel altogether!

    Highly satisfied

    This was my first stay. I was completely satisfied with the service, guest room, bath, meals, and access from the tram and bus stops. Although I forgot to order additional dishes separately, the provided meals were more than satisfying. The bath was very spacious and relaxing. The souvenir shop also had a wide variety of items, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely like to stay here again next time!

    Onsen Bathing Hours Information

    The staff were very kind, the room was spacious, and the Onsen was wonderful. However, we were informed on the day about the bathing times for school trip students during both nights of our stay, which might cause crowding. While I understand this cannot be helped, I wish we had been informed in advance so we could have adjusted our schedule.
