    We stayed here during the Obon holiday.

    This was our third stay, and we visited with a total of nine family members and relatives. Our Room was a clean twin on the city side, and we could see planes landing at Hakodate Airport. The open-air bath in the large public bath offers a panoramic view of the Tsugaru Strait, with your eye level right at the horizon—this Accommodation’s signature bath truly lives up to its reputation. The buffet also had a wide variety of dishes, and the floor staff were very attentive, promptly clearing finished plates one after another. However, the staff preparing the food were not as welcoming as I had hoped; I felt it would be even better with a bit more friendliness. The front desk staff were excellent. We would like to stay again.

    I stayed on the Stan...

    I stayed on the Standard Twin breakfast-only Plan. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options, and the seating area was comfortable and easy to use. Lately, Hotels near Hakodate Station that are known for breakfast have become quite expensive, so this felt like a more reasonably priced stay. The Room had been fully renovated, and both the shower booth and sink were convenient to use. The large public bath was very spacious, so it didn’t feel crowded even with many guests, and the open-air bath while listening to the sound of the waves was also great. However, while the check-in staff were kind, there was very little explanation, which made it hard to tell what amenities were provided in the Room versus what needed to be picked up in the lobby.

    About Hakodate Prince Nagisatei

    All the front desk staff were very kind. The building felt historic, but it seems to have been renovated, and the lobby is new and clean. Best of all was the large public bath! It’s spacious, has many different baths, and even a sauna—highly recommended for Onsen lovers!

    Not worth the price.

    I arrived well before check-in time. I was shown to my Room a little early, but the staff were not very helpful until then. I later learned that although the name includes “Prince,” it is not affiliated with the well-known Prince Hotel. The Room had been renovated and was clean, but it lacked any sense of luxury worthy of the price. Even though it was advertised as a Room with an open-air bath, the tub was small, and the large public bath was simply spacious—cheap-looking, dated, and unsettling, as if built by amateurs. On top of that, the entrance/exit from the women’s public bath to the open-air bath is fully visible from the beach. I cannot justify this price (45,000 yen per person). I felt reassured making a Reservation because it was listed on IKYU, but I was very disappointed. The only positive point was dinner at the teppanyaki restaurant—I enjoyed a quiet meal at a relaxed pace while chatting with the chef.

    The free-flowing natural Onsen, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Mt. Hakodate, is exceptional.

    The long bathhouse, with indoor baths of different water temperatures lined up side by side, all faces the sea. With nothing blocking the view right in front of you, it was my first time experiencing such a large-scale free-flowing hot spring bath! The slightly milky water contains plenty of salt and warmed me thoroughly. Maybe because it was a weekday in June, it was very quiet, and I was able to relax and enjoy Hakodate from the seaside until the last day. The breakfast buffet the next morning also had a great variety of dishes—I couldn’t finish everything—so next time a Multiple Night Stay seems like the way to go. Since I chose a Room on the city side, I could watch planes landing at Hakodate Airport up close from the balcony, and both the city night view and the mountain-side sky were wonderful. Please let me drop by again casually. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful hospitality

    We planned a trip to Hakodate to celebrate my elderly father’s birthday, and after careful consideration, we made a Reservation at this Hotel. However, while sightseeing on Mt. Hakodate, my father suddenly became unwell, was taken by ambulance, and was admitted to the hospital immediately. He had been truly looking forward to it, but he was unable to enjoy the meals, the Onsen, or the Room here, so only my mother and I stayed. When we explained the situation, you responded appropriately and offered us warm words of support. I had little appetite after such an unexpected event, but everything we ate was wonderful and delicious—and it made me wish even more that my father could have enjoyed it too. The Room was also excellent. We are deeply grateful to all of your staff.

    The entrance and the...

    The entrance and the Room were very clean and comfortable. However, it seemed like only half of the floor we stayed on was in use; after getting off the elevator, the corridor on the other side was completely dark, which felt gloomy and disappointing. Many of the staff seemed to be trainees, but everyone had wonderful smiles, worked hard, and was very pleasant. Still, overall it ended up being a stay that left me feeling slightly unsettled—“nice people, but…” There were four main points that concerned me. First was the check-in guidance. The self check-in kiosk process itself was smooth, but there was no explanation at all about meals or check-out, and nothing was written on the paper I received either, which left me confused. Second was the number of towels. The Room had only one bath towel and one face towel per person. If you use them at the public bath, you’re left without towels for washing up or for the next morning. Since the Room itself was so clean, this service design felt especially disappointing. Third was tourist information for the next day. When I asked a staff member at check-out how to get to Goryokaku Tower, I was told there were no nearby bus stops and that I should walk to a tram stop. In reality there is a bus stop very close to this Accommodation—and in fact taking the bus would have gotten me closer to the tower (I realized later). Fourth was about the dining venue. Even though it wasn’t crowded at all, we were seated along a route used by a serving robot, so music played loudly every time it passed by us and it wasn’t relaxing. The staff in the venue were kind throughout; even when we were last ones there they didn’t rush us and treated us pleasantly until the end. Because all of your staff seem genuinely nice people, it felt like such a shame that unhelpful information and guidance mistakes took away from what could have been an excellent Accommodation experience.

    I stayed here during...

    I stayed here during a busy trip around Aomori and Hakodate, and it helped me recover from travel fatigue. There were also international guests. I saw one person step into the hotter Onsen bath up to their waist, so I asked if it was too hot and told them the neighboring tub was a comfortable temperature; they moved right away. I also mentioned the open-air bath. Are there not enough English signs?

    Second stay

    This was my second stay. My previous stay was before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the reception area, lobby, Room I stayed in, and restaurant had all been renovated. Check-in was automated, but it was easy to use and I was able to check in smoothly without any confusion. The welcome drink in the lobby with a panoramic ocean view made me feel truly refreshed and away from everyday life. I stayed in Room 411. It was advertised as having a view of Mt. Hakodate, but a water storage tank blocked the view completely, which was very disappointing. However, the Room itself felt very clean and I had a comfortable stay. The restaurant offered buffet-style dinner and breakfast. Dinner included sushi, steak, and sashimi, while breakfast featured Hakodate’s famous seafood rice bowl (kaisen-don). Overall satisfaction with the meals was very high. The open-air bath at the large public bath offered a sweeping view of the Tsugaru Strait, and the water was pleasantly warm. Inside, there were several baths ranging from lukewarm to hot, as well as a hinoki (cypress) bath—perfect for Onsen lovers. Everything was great except for the view from my Room.

    A Room with Stunning Views and Thoughtful Hospitality

    I’m glad I stayed here! The Room, the view, the bath, the hospitality, and the meals—everything was wonderful. In particular, soaking in the open-air bath while looking out over the Tsugaru Strait was pure bliss. There was a small misunderstanding about my Reservation details and it caused an issue, but the Hotel staff responded kindly to my request, so their hospitality was excellent in that respect as well. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes and was delicious, though I felt the seafood was fairly average (perhaps because my expectations for sashimi were especially high since this is Hakodate).

    Solo traveler-friendly

    I love Hakodate and visit every year, and I stay here whenever I can get a Reservation. It’s very convenient even for solo travelers, and I’m satisfied with the welcome drink, meals, and the Onsen. I also appreciate being able to choose any seat at breakfast.

    It was a highly satisfying 2-day, 1-night stay.

    The breakfast was so delicious that I ended up eating too much. Although I usually skip breakfast, the buffet-style meal was incredibly satisfying. The Onsen had a perfect temperature for me, allowing me to relax, and the Hotel itself was very quiet and well-maintained. I'm glad I chose to stay here. I would love to stay again when I visit Hakodate in the summer.

    Looks like a Business Hotel check-in.

    January 1, 2026 (Thursday) 65-year-old male & 68-year-old female 1 night with 2 meals: ¥71,877 Smoking Deluxe Twin Room with Open-Air Bath (31 sqm) Check-in is automated and must be completed by the guest. Similar to a business hotel, there are no staff stationed at the counter. After receiving the key card, guests scan a QR code to access detailed information about the hotel (large bath, meal times, amenities, etc.) and must look up this information themselves. There is no guidance from staff for rooms, elevators, coffee corners, or other areas. The yukata corner also has no staff present; guests use their key cards independently. **Room** The room was satisfactory considering the accommodation cost. The private bath offered a view of Mount Hakodate but only through a small gap about 10 cm high during bathing. The bathroom is divided into a bathtub area and shower booth without any door separating them; washing in the private bath during winter may not be feasible due to cold temperatures. There are no windows in the bedroom. **Meals (Dinner & Breakfast)** The variety of dishes was overwhelming and highly satisfying. Bite-sized portions were abundant and delicious across all options. My companion even remarked on how much effort it must take to clean all those small dishes afterward! However, despite being in Hokkaido, live kitchen sushi featured "bonito" and "yellowtail," while crab offerings were limited to small grilled crabs without crab scissors provided. Meat dishes were average. **Large Bath** The large communal bath was spacious but included stairs at both the entrance and inside the bathing area—making it not barrier-free. **For Smokers** There is one smoking room located near the restaurant on the second floor that requires a key card for entry. According to non-smoking companions staying in non-smoking rooms, their room key cards did not grant access to this smoking room; they had to wait for someone entering or exiting it instead. Overall impressions: Meals were satisfying; baths were average; while staff interactions were polite enough regarding demeanor alone—they lacked training in hospitality or attentiveness toward guest needs typically expected at accommodations like hotels or ryokans offering more personalized service experiences akin either traditional inns' charm nor modern professionalism seen elsewhere such as Hakodate Kokusai Hotel where standards felt higher comparatively speaking overall value-for-money ratio seemed lacking IT-driven systems might appeal some travelers yet fell short addressing practical concerns/preferences others might hold suggesting emphasizing unique strengths e.g., promoting standout individual dish selections over generic live kitchen setups better align branding expectations potential clientele preferences moving forward

    Open-air Bath, Sauna, and Delicious Meals

    The digitalization efforts are noticeable, but there is room for improvement in providing sufficient information at check-in (e.g., meal times when it's not a buffet, details about yukata or samue, and the lack of guidance on the bring-your-own-amenities system). The complimentary drinks at the lounge, first-floor coffee station, and post-bath drink server are much appreciated. However, having only two tiles feels insufficient; offering take-home items like tenugui (body towels) would be a nice touch. Additionally, there were no towel racks in the Room, making it slightly inconvenient to handle wet towels. The open-air bath at Nagisatei and the relaxing sauna are experiences worth trying. We chose teppanyaki for dinner; the ingredients were excellent and very delicious. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked overall but slightly disappointing as the salmon roe resembled sujiko due to rising costs.

    Bath towel

    I stay in the same room every year, but I would like the bath towels to be replaced soon. The fabric is coarse and thin, making it a bit uncomfortable when drying my body. Since this is a first-class ryokan, I would appreciate softer and fluffier bath towels.

    Business traveler-friendly accommodation

    There are both pros and cons.

    I’m very satisfied with the Room, meals, and service—more than worth the price. However, please allow me to point out just three things (if I may). The Room with a view bath had a humidifier, but the standard double Room did not. Why is that? Do the in-room amenities vary depending on the Room rate? There was no instruction manual for using the phone, so I couldn’t contact the front desk. It made me wonder if you prefer not to take calls from guest Rooms because it gets busy. I was confused because the check-in procedure at the buffet restaurant differed depending on the staff member. One staff member said it was fine to show only one representative’s room key, while another said we had to present all room keys... It’s difficult to suddenly collect all room keys from everyone. Still, it was a good Hotel. Thank you for your hospitality.

    The open-air bath in the Room is excellent! With the image of a Business Hotel...

    This is my favorite accommodation, where I have stayed 20 times. Initially, it had the perfect atmosphere of an Onsen Ryokan with attentive staff, but starting this year, it feels more like a complete Business Hotel. Check-in and check-out are automated, amenities are self-selected in the hall, and guests carry their own luggage to the room. Those expecting an Onsen Ryokan might be surprised. Since I am a frequent guest, there was almost no explanation provided during my stay. For example, there was no guidance about cleaning times during extended stays (as a result, my room wasn’t cleaned after watching the Dodgers win). I also overheard another guest at check-in saying they weren’t informed about dinner times and assumed they could eat whenever they wanted but wished for clearer instructions as first-time visitors. While automation has its benefits, providing thorough explanations would enhance satisfaction. Choosing amenities from an eco-friendly perspective is great; however, having staff silently standing by the amenity area felt less like assistance and more like being watched over—making me uncomfortable. The breakfast remains delicious as always! The private open-air bath in the room offers stunning views and excellent Onsen water quality. Since I usually enjoy dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant nearby, staying at Nagisatei with breakfast included is incredibly convenient for me. However, while I use it like a Business Hotel myself (and feel guilty about that), it's sad to see that even the service has become similar to that of a Business Hotel. Still—I will visit again!

    For the first time in 20 years

    Check-in and check-out were done by machine, which was surprising. The room was beautifully renovated and modern. The juice bar in the bathhouse dressing area was a delightful service. Dinner had fewer dishes than expected, and the variety of sashimi seemed limited. For smokers, accommodations are often hard to find, so this was greatly appreciated. When I bought ice at the shop for drinks in the room, a staff member kindly asked if I needed glasses and delivered them to my room—much appreciated since there were only coffee cups in the room. Thank you for your thoughtfulness!

    Couples' Trip

    This was our second stay as a couple, following last year. This year, we stayed in a room with an open-air bath on the mountain side. It felt slightly cold in the open-air bath and shower room, possibly due to colder weather compared to previous years. Our stay included dinner and breakfast. Since it was a Sunday night, there were fewer guests at the dinner venue, allowing us to relax while enjoying delicious dishes like steak, seafood, and salt ramen. Breakfast offered many small dishes that made it hard to choose but left us very satisfied. We look forward to staying again next year!

    On our fifth trip to Hakodate, we stayed in a city-center hotel for the first three nights, where there was no ocean view or open-air bath. For the final day, we wanted an accommodation with a room and open-air bath offering an ocean view right in front of us and, if possible, a sky full of stars. With such high hopes, we found this accommodation and consulted with them over the phone before visiting. Our room on the top floor offered a stunning view all the way to Tsugaru Strait and Oma Cape. When I woke up at night, I saw a sky full of stars. The large public bath was not crowded at all; it had two saunas and an open-air bath where you could see fishing lights and Hakodate's nightscape clearly. The buffet at the seaside restaurant was quiet with beautifully arranged small portions. Both breakfast and dinner were enjoyable, so much so that my husband finished everything on his plate in surprise. The staff everywhere were proactive in engaging with us; they even took many photos of us together. The room was excellent, the views spectacular, the baths relaxing, the meals delightful, and customer service outstanding—this accommodation exceeded all my expectations for our final day’s stay.     Extremely practical with minimal explanations.

    The room was overall dark, and although it was a guest room with an open-air bath, it did not provide relaxation or comfort. The open-air bath was not clean. It was disappointing as there was nothing I sought from the trip.

    It was my first time visiting Hakodate, and it was absolutely the right choice. Great Onsen! Great food! Great sightseeing! Yunokawa Prince Hotel is amazing! I want to visit again.
