Stayed at Saryou Ous...
Stayed at Saryou Oushukutei for two nights to experience the difference from Cove. While Cove offers a welcome drink with a custom cocktail prepared in your room and an aperitif gift when using Rokkakudo, these are not available at Oushukutei. However, Oushukutei has a sauna with unlimited access, which is great. At Cove, the hammam includes herbs for two uses during a one-night stay. Oushukutei, originally a tea house, has a wabi-sabi aesthetic that my husband prefers for its refined simplicity. The view features lush greenery and Japanese gardens rather than the sea, offering spacious and luxurious surroundings. The refrigerator is stocked daily with complimentary items such as mineral water, bottled tea, mikan chu-hi on the first day, and mikan beer on the second day. Plenty of linens are provided for comfort. The villa with an Onsen is truly exceptional!

Like stepping back in time.
An endless view of the sea and sky, with peninsulas, islands, and bridges. The breathtaking scenery from the large windows of the guest rooms never gets old. While my experiences are limited, the beauty here rivals that of Toba International Hotel. Although there is no bar, the sunset view from the lounge in the evening is exceptional. The toilet and bathtub share the same space and even include a bidet rarely found outside select European countries. The retro atmosphere evokes memories of hotels in France or Italy from a bygone era—one wonders what inspired the room's designer. Dinner was served at "Rokkakutei," a separate building specializing in teppanyaki. Even the appetizers and salads were carefully crafted using local ingredients, offering delicious flavors. Most impressive was how proud the chef was to be from this area; their passion for their work made for an enjoyable conversation. Being a small-scale hotel, staff members seemed to juggle multiple roles, but their familial atmosphere felt comforting. During my stay, I had an accident where I fell and got injured; however, their kind response left a lasting impression. Some furniture showed signs of age—for instance, there were marks on the living room table that couldn’t be wiped off—and I thought that combining the living room and bedroom into one open space might allow for an even better view. I look forward to potential renovations in the future. While not located in a famous tourist destination, I hope this hotel continues to maintain its cozy charm for years to come. On an unrelated note, I recommend visiting Muryo-ji Temple, known for its cancer-prevention blessings—it features theme park-like elements that make it worth exploring!

It was a lovely classic Hotel.
I love classic hotels, and I was thrilled to finally visit the Gamagori Classic Hotel, which I had always admired. The picturesque and elegant appearance of the hotel was truly impressive. The view of Takeshima Island from the window was also beautiful. The happy hour at sunset after check-in was delightful, with reasonably priced alcoholic beverages. Spending time with my daughters while watching the sea gradually darken was the perfect setting. Dinner was a steak course at the Hexagonal Hall, which I had been looking forward to. Since this was a commemorative trip for my daughter's marriage, I had requested a celebratory dessert plate in advance. The chefs added lively humor and a wonderful performance, making it an incredibly enjoyable and memorable experience. Thank you so much! My daughter seemed very happy, which made me happy as well. The fire performance was fantastic! Morning coffee on the terrace was a refreshing start to the day, and the breakfast was classic and lovely. Please continue to preserve the traditions of this wonderful hotel. I look forward to visiting again.

There is a steep slo...
There is a steep slope leading to the hotel, which was more inclined than expected, making it quite challenging to carry luggage uphill. The building is very classical, and at the entrance, a charming doorman in a lovely uniform opened the door and escorted us with our luggage. Compared to the wonderful doorman, the front desk staff seemed rather indifferent. Although it was supposed to be an Online Credit Card Payment, I was asked about payment methods during check-in, which made me anxious (later I checked my reservation details and confirmed that it was indeed an online payment). Skincare sets were not available in the room but were handed out at check-in by the front desk. After taking a ride on a beautiful elevator, there were still stairs leading to our room, which made carrying large luggage somewhat difficult during our stay. The room had an unusual layout as if divided into two sections; choosing a room with views of Takeshima turned out to be perfect. There was a compact shop in the lobby; however, I wished they sold items like stickers similar to other classic hotels. We dined at the main dining area for both breakfast and dinner; we enjoyed conversations with friendly staff members who made our time delightful. The tableware used was exquisite—I wish they would sell those as well! It would have been helpful if there had been maps for exploring within or around the hotel (apologies if such maps were available somewhere). Being a classic hotel comes with some compromises—sounds tend to echo easily here; we could hear surrounding noises clearly and worried whether sounds from our own room might disturb others too. Overall, this stay left us wanting another chance for exploration and enjoyment!

The ocean-side Room was truly the best.
This is my second stay. Last time, I enjoyed the volunteer-guided tour of Takeshima and stayed in a sea-view Room, so this time I decided to relax in the Room. The meals, building, and view of Takeshima are truly wonderful as always. After breakfast, I was delighted to see the banquet hall used in a drama.

Delicious Western-style breakfast
The bread is delicious, and the omelets are cooked to perfection. It is more affordable than other classic Hotels, offering great value for money.

Relax with the scenic views
It had been a while since my last visit. The view of the sea and islands from the Hotel window, blending with the serene sky where birds leisurely flew, was truly soothing. I can imagine maintaining an old building must be quite challenging, but the contrast between the well-maintained green lawn and vibrant trees shining under the summer sunlight gave me a sense of being transported back in time, which was delightful. If there were just a bit more thought put into the room amenities, it might have added an extra touch of comfort to my time spent in the Room.

It was a very beautiful building.
As a registered tangible cultural property, the building was truly charming. While the overall structure retained its historical charm, the bath and bedroom were beautifully renovated to preserve their vintage appeal while ensuring comfort. It was delightful to sleep while enjoying views of the garden through the snow-viewing shoji screens around the bedroom. The dinner was exceptional, but breakfast consisted of a set Japanese-Western fusion meal that differed from our usual preferences. It leaned more towards Japanese cuisine, which wasn’t ideal for my wife who usually prefers Western-style breakfasts. We would love to stay here again if given the chance!

Summer Sky Bathroom
I stayed in Room 306. The bathroom window was large, offering a refreshing view of Takeshima and the summer blue sky. Since I walked from the station under the scorching heat, I greatly appreciated the female staff at the entrance offering to carry my luggage to the check-in counter. While it lacks modern luxury facilities, its profound and elegant atmosphere is remarkable. Overall, the service left a simple yet pleasant impression.

Stayed at THE COVE. ...
Stayed at THE COVE. This accommodation is perfect for those who love scenic beauty, and this was my eighth stay since the Prince era. THE COVE is absolutely amazing. It features a modernized water area within an old Japanese-style house, giving off a vibe similar to overseas Aman Resorts. Two weeks ago, I stayed at my favorite Aman Kyoto, but this place is just as impressive. The special breakfast, complimentary drinks, amenities—everything feels completely different from the suites in the main building. I've been waiting for something like this in Gamagori. The hammam bed and the onsen in the room are exceptional. Thank you for creating such a wonderful room!

The ocean view of Takeshima and the meals served in the evening, morning, and afternoon left a lasting impression.
The first thing that caught my eye upon entering the room was the expansive view of Takeshima through the window. On the day we arrived, it was sunny, and Takeshima was surrounded by blue skies and sea. However, the next morning, it was slightly overcast, giving a serene view of Takeshima floating in a white mist. Dinner at Rokkakudo with teppanyaki and beer was exceptional. My wife and I chose beef and spiny lobster respectively to share, accompanied by grilled local seafood as an appetizer. We were delighted to enjoy such a variety of ingredients. The staff's attentive service added to our enjoyment of this long-awaited teppanyaki experience. The next morning before breakfast, there was a popular coffee and tea morning service on the second-floor balcony seating area, which was almost fully occupied. The Japanese-style breakfast featured fresh fish and vegetables that were deliciously prepared. Since both teppanyaki and Japanese cuisine were excellent, we decided to try Western cuisine as well after checking out from the Hotel following our stroll around Takeshima Island. For lunch back at the Hotel, we shared their traditional beef cutlet with mushroom sauce paired with their signature clear curry set meal for two people (price not mentioned). The beef cutlet had perfectly blended flavors between tender meat & rich mushroom sauce while Clear Curry stood out uniquely due its flavorful roux combined w/ rice’s subtle curry aroma making them distinctively superior compared against regular dishes like typical katsu-curry elsewhere! Walking up/downstairs revealed historical photo panels alongside stained glass windows creating classic ambiance throughout interiors meanwhile observing garden views outside building resembled castle-like architecture resembling Tenshukaku depending angles viewed! Although Azalea Festival ended already some beautiful spots remained hinting how spectacular full bloom season must’ve been imagined earlier

The nostalgic Gamapuri is still here!
I visited for the first time in 30 years. Recently, I watched a TV drama featuring Mao Daichi set in this location, which brought back nostalgic memories. By chance, I had a meeting at the Onsen area in Gamagori and decided to stay overnight alone after such a long time. The check-in and check-out process using machines felt slightly out of place for a classic hotel, but other services were elegant. I enjoyed tea time at the lounge, standard French cuisine, and Western-style breakfast with attentive service that made me feel like a lady. The room remains as it was in the past; compared to modern hotels, its size and bathroom design felt somewhat cramped, so I rated it 4 stars. Overall though, it’s an excellent hotel for solo travelers!

Excellent location
The location and connection to Takeshima and the sea are excellent. Enjoy a pleasant walk from Gamagori Station, passing by the aquarium on the way. The hotel's exterior is more castle-like than expected, and the interior offers a charming space with features like elevators and lobby sofas. We reserved an upscale French meal, which was absolutely satisfying in taste. However, some of the room facilities were not functional, and the cleanliness of the shower curtain in the bathroom was concerning. It was also disappointing that the bar was closed; hotel main bars often provide unique cultural experiences through conversations. We sincerely hope for its reopening soon!

A Hotel You'd Want to Visit Again
Unfortunately, I was not aware that there is a Gamagori Classic Hotel in the Classic Hotel group. The meals were delicious, and being guided to a veranda seat allowed me to enjoy the view as part of the experience, which was truly satisfying. I would definitely like to visit again.

For those who want to relax
Recommended for those who appreciate a classic hotel. The facility is old and slightly musty, which was expected. However, was it necessary to reserve meal times due to staff shortages? Even when arriving on time, no table was prepared, and we were seated at a crumb-covered table, which dampened the mood. Under the bed in the room, I found an old pair of slippers and accidentally wore them covered in dust, which lowered my spirits further. The morning beverage service was only available from 6:30 AM for one hour; by 7:20 AM, most cups were gone and only lukewarm tea or coffee remained. I reserved this stay to coincide with the Azalea Festival but unfortunately had no luck as they weren’t blooming at all. Gamagori has little to offer besides Takeshima Island and azaleas; however, it might be enjoyable for those who want to relax inside the hotel while embracing its Showa-era charm.

Journey to Explore Classic Hotels 2
The second Hotel chosen by my friend and I on our journey to explore classic hotels. Everything here made us forget the passage of time, and we were completely satisfied with our decision to stay at this Hotel. The steak full course at Rokkakudo was both a performance for the guests and a delight in taste—it was truly delicious. I am very excited about receiving my letter 10 years from now. This is a Hotel I would love to visit again and again.

Dreams come true!
A hotel recommended by Shotaro Ikenami. I had always wanted to visit, and it finally came true. It's not a very large hotel, so you can enjoy a calm and relaxing stay. The full-course French cuisine was absolutely satisfying. And the fact that you can stay for around 20,000 yen per night makes it incredibly cost-effective. It was such a wonderful hotel that I would love to make it my regular accommodation.

The luxury of staying at a cultural property
I stopped by on my way back from a business trip to Nagoya. Embarrassingly, I had never set foot in Mikawa for sightseeing before, but as the writer Mr. Miyagidani said, Gamagori is a wonderfully scenic place and I was impressed. As for the important Hotel, despite being accessible on foot from JR Gamagori Station, it is located on a hill near the coast with an excellent view of the sea including Takeshima (Takeshima), making it a great location. Moreover, the building itself is said to be an authentic cultural property of considerable age (the vintage elevator is particularly wonderful!), and although there were some slightly old-fashioned parts in the water facilities of our Room, everything was well-maintained and there were no inconveniences during our stay. For meals, we had teppanyaki for dinner and Japanese cuisine at the main dining room for breakfast; both were excellent in content with perfect service from all staff members allowing us to have an amazing dining experience thanks to their hospitality. We are grateful for your kindness. The view of Takeshima from this Hotel is splendid and you can even take a shortcut through its magnificent garden to reach Takeshima itself. When I go on another business trip to Nagoya again someday soon hopefully I'll be able visit once more! Thank you very much in advance!

Classic Hotel Tour
It was nice to visit classic hotels and it was conveniently close from Nagoya. The food was delicious, and the next day we requested a guided tour of Takeshima. Even though it was just the two of us, a volunteer gave us a detailed explanation which moved us. One disappointment was that there were no explanations about the hotel interior. At other classic hotels like Nikko Kanaya Hotel and Unzen Kanko Hotel, historical explanations are given from 5 PM. Please consider implementing this without requiring reservations a week in advance, starting at 5 PM if possible. They say perseverance is power; thank you for your consideration.

I had a great time.
Since I had been curious about it since visiting Gamagori a long time ago, we stayed there as a family this New Year. Upon arrival, everyone immediately exclaimed, "What a lovely building," with their eyes sparkling. The interior, reminiscent of a drama set, was enjoyable to explore. I was a bit concerned about the old facilities, especially since we had elderly people with us, but the place had been subtly renovated, allowing us to stay comfortably (after all, the historical charm of this oldness is its appeal). The view of Takeshima and the sunset from the Room was truly beautiful and relaxing (since you're there, I recommend a sea-facing Room). The French dinner in the main hall and the choice of Japanese or Western breakfast were both delicious and made us feel very elegant. The staff's thoughtfulness was also appreciated, making for a delightful time. I imagine there are challenges in maintaining the place, but it's a location I hope will remain forever, so I encourage you to keep up the good work. I look forward to finding another opportunity to visit. Thank you very much.

The food is delicious.
It was a Hotel that made me feel like I had come far away, even though it was nearby. The view from the Room was excellent. The Room was also very relaxing, just like being at home. The meal while overlooking the best power spot "Takeshima" was very satisfying in both quantity and taste. I would like to stay again.

The food is delicious at the Hotel.
The building has a classic Japanese style. The entrance and dining area have a dignified atmosphere. The meal was French cuisine, but it was lightly seasoned and delicious, without causing any heaviness. There were many elderly people around, but they all finished their meals completely. We enjoyed cocktails on the terrace while watching the sunset. The breakfast was also delicious, and the tableware was lovely. The Hotel staff were very accommodating, even offering additional bread. The guest room felt a bit old, but I really liked it.

Relaxing Hotel Life
I enjoyed the hotel life from check-in to check-out. Since it was a plan with a cake set, I enjoyed sweets in the lounge and went straight into happy hour! There were few people, so I could really relax and enjoy it as if it were my own lounge. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The friend I went with was excitedly saying "I want to go again!" on the way home, so I'll probably visit again.

I would like to stay at the property leisurely next time.
On the way back to Tokyo from Yamaguchi Prefecture, I made a slight detour and stayed overnight in a sea-side Room. In the morning, Takeshima was clearly visible from the Room, and it felt great.

Stayed with children
We stayed with our infants. They arranged the beds as Hollywood twins, provided a baby crib rental (for a fee), and lent us a diaper trash can. The bath is a unit bath, so it's challenging to bathe children. We have also stayed at classic hotels across the whole country, but the age of the facility seems noticeable. The staff were all very kind and gentle with the children, and the children quickly warmed up to them. I think it would be more enjoyable if there were more historical displays like other classic hotels.

A historic Hotel. The breakfast is exceptionally delicious.
This is a historic hotel where Emperor Showa and Prince and Princess Akishino have stayed. I have eaten the curry lunch at the main dining room many times, but this was my first time staying. There are sea-side rooms with a view of the calm Mikawa Bay and mountain-side rooms where you can hear birds chirping. Due to budget constraints, we stayed on the mountain side this time. The room doors are not auto-lock, which adds a nice retro touch. If you stay, I highly recommend having breakfast. Breakfast with a view of Mikawa Bay was an excellent experience. The bread (shokupan) at breakfast is particularly delicious. Although it is not included in the breakfast course, I highly recommend trying the Gamagori mandarin juice. Gamagori is a mandarin-producing area. The 100% freshly squeezed mandarin juice is exquisite. How about selling premium juice (bottled) that can only be drunk at Gamagori Classic Hotel or bought at Gamagori Classic? That is the opinion of a former Gamagori citizen.
