    Great location

    Breakfast was a delicious buffet with a wide variety of options. The Onsen was also spacious, comfortable, and very relaxing. The Room was comfortable and easy to spend time in.

    First Time in Shikoku

    After turning 70, I decided to start my first trip to Shikoku with a visit to Konpira Shrine. I planned to stay one night at this Hotel before heading to Matsuyama. The Hotel was a luxurious and grand establishment, which surprised me. At check-in, we were delighted to hear that our Room had been upgraded. When we saw the Room, we were amazed again—it had both a Japanese-style room and a Western-style bedroom with large massage chairs. It was more than spacious for just two people. After being tired from climbing the long stairs of Konpira Shrine, the Room and Onsen provided much-needed relaxation, making the beginning of our journey truly memorable. The meals were delicious, and everyone was kind and welcoming. Thank you very much!

    Kotohira Onsen Kotosankaku

    This was my first stay. I chose the Summer All-You-Can-Drink Buffet Plan at Sansuikan. Although the building is old, it was clean and well-maintained. There was a bingo game inside the facility, which was enjoyable. The buffet offered both Japanese and Western dishes, which were very satisfying and delicious. Its proximity to Kotohira Shrine was also convenient.

    Kotohira has Kotosankaku.

    We stayed for two nights and were impressed by the splendid facility, which had a luxurious design throughout. The staff at the front desk and guides were very attentive, and we even received a greeting from the hostess during dinner. The onsen was not too hot, allowing us to relax and enjoy it at our own pace. Dinner was a delicious course meal, while breakfast was served buffet-style with an extensive selection of both Japanese and Western dishes, including udon. To ease congestion, breakfast started just before 7:00 AM; however, considering that the onsen opens at 5:00 AM, starting breakfast at 6:30 AM might better accommodate early risers. Both Konpira Shrine and Kotohira Station are about a five-minute walk away, making access very convenient. We would love to stay here again!

    It may be considered an accommodation suitable for babies, but the information provided is too vague. Each of the three staff members gave different guidance, and after preparing based on the corrected information from the last staff member, it ended up being burdensome for the baby. If unsure, I believe it should be confirmed with someone knowledgeable before providing guidance.

    It was a great bath.

    The room with an open-air bath was excellent, and I enjoyed the bath about six times. However, it was disappointing that nothing was mentioned about our wedding anniversary trip. I believe I noted it as a wedding anniversary trip when making the reservation. We've used your service several times before.

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay at your accommodation. I initially made a reservation for Sansuikan for three people, including my husband and mother, but I appreciated the upgrade to Hitenkan. The lobby had a faint scent of incense, creating an elegant atmosphere. The facility was clean, the large public bath was excellent, and the meals were delicious. The sea bream rice in particular was outstanding. The staff's hospitality was also very pleasant. My mother lives about 40 minutes from Kotohira, and we would love to use Kotosankaku again when visiting her hometown. Thank you for your hospitality!

    It was excellent.

    We stayed here for a girls' trip with friends. After check-in, we enjoyed the lounge with unlimited beer and other drinks, which instantly lifted our spirits after a tiring journey. The dinner buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, leaving us fully satisfied. Post-dinner, the lounge provided an excellent selection of whiskey, other beverages, and snacks at no extra charge. Everyone agreed they would love to return with their families next time. Thank you to all the staff!

    Solo Travel

    A well-maintained and charming accommodation. Both dinner and breakfast were highly satisfying. Dinner was excellent in both taste and portion, with outstanding service from the staff. Breakfast offered a wide variety, including Sanuki udon, Japanese dishes, Western dishes, bread, and plenty of desserts to enjoy. The Western-style room was quite spacious, allowing for a relaxing time on the L-shaped sofa.

    Welcome back to Kotohira Kadan!

    I stayed here a long time ago, and this was my first visit in a while. The accommodation has been renovated and is very clean. The large bath was spacious and relaxing, helping to relieve my fatigue. Meals were served buffet-style with a wide variety of dishes, and the place was lively with many people. My friend especially enjoyed the all-you-can-drink alcohol option. Overall, it was a satisfying ryokan experience.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    I visited for the first time in over a decade as part of my son's graduation trip. While there were some signs of aging in the facility, it was clean and comfortable to stay. The panoramic bath overlooking Mount Zozu was spacious and relaxing; I enjoyed it three times during my stay. The meals were well-balanced, and after dining, I had fun enjoying table tennis, the game corner, an izakaya, and other aspects of onsen life. One suggestion: It would be helpful to have someone managing the car drop-off area during check-out who could also see guests off. When I brought my car from the parking lot to load luggage at the entrance, a staff member asked me not to stop there in a way that felt inconvenient. For elderly guests or those with children, this could be challenging. Many ryokans provide send-offs at departure which leave lasting positive memories; while it may require additional staffing, I hope you will consider this improvement.

    The property felt outdated.

    The Room photos and Reviews gave a good impression, but the age of the property was noticeable. At night, I woke up due to the sound of water from other Rooms. Breakfast was disappointing as it looked completely different from the photos. Access to Kotohira Shrine was convenient.

    The hospitality at the Hotel was wonderful.

    The flight was delayed, and we barely made it to the dinner venue, but the staff's excellent service and thoughtfulness were greatly appreciated! The food was delicious, and we were very satisfied with the Onsen facility as well. We were also grateful to borrow a walking stick when visiting Kotohira Shrine. We would love to visit again!

    In the new building...

    I was able to stay at a very reasonable price with the outlet pricing. Next time, I would definitely like to stay in the new building and try out the large public bath there.

    The service was excellent, and the food was very delicious.

    The front desk staff kindly explained the locations of the dinner venue and baths by marking them on a map. Afterward, a staff member carried our luggage and guided us to our room, providing helpful information about travel times to Konpira-san. When we asked if we could leave our car in the parking lot after check-out to visit Konpira-san, they warmly replied, "Of course! Please feel free to use a walking stick as well." Since the room's refrigerator was small and couldn't fit frozen souvenirs, we called the front desk as a last resort. They kindly offered to store them for us, which was very helpful. Dinner was a beautifully presented Japanese kaiseki meal that was delicious in every way. Breakfast was served buffet-style with an impressive variety of Japanese dishes, Western options, and desserts. The chef prepared fresh omelets on-site that were delightful. We enjoyed the Onsen twice—at night and in the morning—which featured various baths such as herbal baths and Binchotan charcoal baths. Entering at 5 AM allowed us to experience different bath arrangements with almost no one around; it felt like having a private open-air bath where we could relax fully. The nightly cleaning ensured everything remained pleasant for soaking away daily fatigue. The Hotel is conveniently located close to Konpira-san—a great location overall! This time we stayed at Sansuikan at an affordable rate but hope to indulge next time by staying at Hitenkan and enjoying its rooftop open-air bath. The staff's hospitality was excellent, cleanliness impeccable, making for an enjoyable stay overall!

    The food was very delicious and visually appealing, and I was very satisfied. The atmosphere was also nice, but the portions were a bit large, and I felt sorry for leaving some for the chef. However, everything was delicious. Thank you very much.

    The staff's hospitality is excellent.

    This was my third stay in five years, and I am grateful for the pleasant experience. The staff's service from check-in to room guidance, dinner and breakfast, and check-out was very pleasant and impeccable. The food was also very delicious and excellent. Despite the New Year's crowd, the courteous service was wonderful. The room was clean, and I thought it was indeed the traditional Kotosankaku. However, it was disappointing that there was no humidifier in the room during the winter season, and although the toilet was clean and had the latest facilities, the noise from the toilet's ventilation fan was loud. I look forward to using it again on the next occasion.

    This year is...?

    I stay here every New Year. The bath and the breakfast buffet were really delicious, but when I got a little hungry at night and tried to take out from the izakaya inside the Hotel, I was put off by the staff's blatantly reluctant attitude, so I canceled. There was one group of customers eating inside, and the staff was talking to them at first. Maybe they didn't like that I came while they were talking? Even so, I thought that attitude and way of speaking were inappropriate for the New Year.

    The price is reasonable...

    Overall, I am satisfied with the fact that I was able to make a reservation at the last minute for New Year's and that the price was reasonable for the holiday season. The plan included breakfast only, which was a buffet with both Japanese and Western dishes, including osechi and ozoni, and the taste was not bad. The bath was quite spacious with a sauna, and although there seemed to be many guests, there were enough showers and hairdryers, so I could use them without waiting. The building has an old-fashioned feel, reminiscent of a large Showa-era onsen ryokan. Although it is a reasonably priced hotel, I wish they offered trendy free drinks, coffee service, or post-bath ice cream, which have become common recently. Also, it is very disappointing that the yukata is plain. I hope they introduce selectable yukata to attract female travelers and couples. Just having that option can change the mood.

    All rooms are old and smell of tobacco. The smell of tobacco is ingrained in the walls. I asked to change rooms because of the smell, but in the end, all rooms smelled. I couldn't sleep, and my voice became hoarse from the tobacco smell. The manager said that groups from China and Korea smoke in the rooms. If true, it's a terrible story. I bought clothes at Uniqlo on the way back and changed before going home. The Onsen was nothing special, and this was the worst Ryokan I've ever stayed at. The rooms are old, and I ended up paying three times the price of a 5,000 yen Ryokan and taking home the tobacco smell, which is the worst. The food wasn't tasty, and it was noisy and messy with foreigners everywhere.
