    Delicious meals and a great Onsen.

    The chef’s skills are clearly excellent. Dinner was carefully prepared, and we also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The Onsen was great, and it left my skin feeling silky smooth! I’d definitely love to stay again!

    It was a very satisfying stay.

    I stayed for three nights on a solo trip combining errands and sightseeing, with No Meals Included. The Room was clean, and I was satisfied with everything. I came and went frequently and may have caused inconvenience with housekeeping, but every staff member was wonderful, and I truly enjoyed my stay. Dogo Onsen Honkan and the shopping arcade were very close by, and it was also very convenient to take the streetcar. The Onsen was excellent as well—I soaked many times and felt completely relaxed. Next time, I’d love to return with meals included and stay even more leisurely.

    We had a wonderful stay and didn’t mind the rain at all.

    This was our first time staying in Dogo Onsen with my children and mother, so we made a Reservation here based on its great location and reputation for service. When I informed them about allergies in advance, they responded very kindly, and that impression proved absolutely true during our stay. Unfortunately it rained while we were there, but as soon as we arrived, staff were waiting at the entrance with umbrellas—service you rarely see these days. They also happily stored our luggage until check-in and brought it to our Room. The spacious Room had delicious sweets and a yukata that fit perfectly. Having towels already in the bath area also meant we didn’t forget to bring any, which was a big help. Both baths were large and spotlessly clean, and the kids loved the snack bar. The breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious above all—citrus juice tastings, seafood rice bowls, and plenty of variety so we never got bored. The whitebait was especially amazing! Best of all was the cheerful hospitality from the staff. Our whole family is grateful for your warm welcome—it’s what made our stay so enjoyable. We would love to stay again.

    Our main branch is the best.

    The staff were outstanding. Also, both breakfast and dinner were very delicious. The large public bath was also very clean and well maintained, so I was able to enjoy it comfortably. I would love to visit again.

    The open-air bath is absolutely amazing!

    Among the long-established Onsen inns in Dogo, the service is excellent. The open-air bath is outstanding. The day before, I went to Dogo Onsen Tsubaki-no-Yu and was disappointed. I won’t go into details, but it wasn’t relaxing at all. The overall guest atmosphere is better too—you should stay at places like Yamatoya Honten. The meals are also delicious.

    We stayed as a famil...

    We stayed as a family of five. The place was thoroughly cleaned and very spotless, which we really appreciated. Everything was perfect. We would love to stay again.

    First stay at Yamatoya Honten, first time visiting Dogo Onsen

    Yamatoya Honten was a wonderful Accommodation. I was truly impressed by the warm hospitality and attentive service from all the staff. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options, all delicious, and it was a very satisfying start to the day. The open-air bath was also clean and comfortable, allowing me to relax and enjoy a peaceful time. I would definitely like to stay here again.

    An annual trip with my best friend

    It was my first time at Dogo Onsen. I planned to explore the town at night, but instead I took my time enjoying Yamato-ya’s cuisine (the sea bream rice was delicious), relaxed in the bath, and then decided to unwind in my Room. Both the Room and the atmosphere throughout the property were wonderful—I’ll definitely be back. Thank you very much.

    Check-out Time

    The facilities have been renovated, and I had a very comfortable stay. The large public bath was especially pleasant. I was satisfied with the Room and the meals. However, compared with other Ryokan in this class, there was no guidance to the Room upon arrival, and the drinks and tea provided in the Room were more like those at a Business Hotel. Since check-out is at 10:00, I couldn’t take my time with either bathing or breakfast in the morning. As it takes longer for women to get ready, I would have appreciated a little more time.

    Back at Yamato-ya Honten after a long time.

    The single room at this long-established Ryokan is great even for solo travelers—this was my fourth stay. I would have preferred the breakfast to be the traditional Japanese set meal as it used to be. With the well-stocked complimentary drinks from the tap, plus stall-style beverages and sweets, this is an Accommodation I’d like to stay at again.

    The customer service was terrible.

    The service was terrible. I went to the designated restaurant for dinner, but even after presenting my dinner voucher, I was repeatedly told “not here” and almost turned away. When I was finally shown to a Room, instead of an apology I was told, “It was a poor choice of words.” When leaving, I was also told, “We were waiting for other guests,” which shocked me. If you are waiting for other guests, do you turn everyone else away? The food wasn’t good and the service was awful, yet the price was high. I will never go again.

    It was a bit disappointing.

    As it was the first day of a three-day holiday weekend, the entire Dogo Onsen area felt extremely crowded. Even after arriving at the Hotel, there was no welcome; we were told to wait in the car. After a while, we were informed that staff would park the car, so we unloaded our luggage. Normally at an Onsen like this, staff help with luggage, but we had to unload everything ourselves. We also had to wait for check-in. There are only two elevators and they are slow, which gave it an old-fashioned feel. The food was delicious, but the drinks are expensive—beer and shochu felt like they were over 1,000 yen each. I assume amenities such as the bath and the sake and snack corner outside the bathing area are meant as hospitality, but even after paying over 55,000 yen for one night, I kept thinking “Is this really it?” until the end. I was surprised again when we were charged a parking fee at checkout. As a long-established property in Dogo Onsen, I hope they will make more effort.

    It was excellent.

    The large public bath was excellent—spacious, spotless, and with great water quality. The Room felt a little dated, but we were very satisfied with the wide range of services, such as mandarin orange juice on tap, sake tastings, and a traditional snack bar. We arrived a bit early, but we really appreciated that they stored our luggage and delivered it to our Room.

    I would like to stay here again.

    My daughter was drawn to the all-you-can-eat salmon roe breakfast buffet, so the three of us stayed as a family. We enjoyed dinner at a relaxed pace in a private room, and everything was delicious. The mandarin orange tap, sake bar, and retro snack bar were also fun. For breakfast, of course, we went back for seconds of seafood rice bowls. It was fantastic. Thank you for letting us keep our car parked even after checkout. The staff were kind and courteous as well, and we would love to stay again.

    Suite Room Stay

    We stayed in a Suite Room with six people. We were also able to sleep separately in two rooms. The meals were excellent. The location was perfect. The Onsen was great as well.

    You can create wonderful memories without going sightseeing.

    I stayed for two nights. Not only the famous Noh stage and the tap that dispenses mandarin orange juice, but also the Ryokan's Onsen and meals were excellent. The facilities were spacious and clean, with towels provided, allowing for a light and easy visit. For the second night's dinner, we were given a private room, which made it even more relaxing to enjoy our meal. The attentive service conveyed great care, making it a wonderful Ryokan where you can forget the daily hustle and experience an extraordinary stay.

    Attracted by the charm of a long-established tradition

    I stayed for the first time with a one-night, two-meal plan. The location is right in front of Dogo Onsen Honkan, and the entrance has a traditional and classic atmosphere. However, while you are greeted at the entrance, they do not carry your luggage like other Ryokans. Additionally, there is no guidance to your room or tea service provided by staff in the room. Despite its Japanese Ryokan-style ambiance, the system operates more like a modern city Hotel. I was disappointed as I expected traditional Japanese hospitality but realized my expectations might have been outdated. *Futons are laid out for you. Dinner was served in a private room where it was quiet and relaxing to enjoy the meal. The tableware was beautiful and visually pleasing as well. The staff member who attended us was very friendly and made us happy. I used the Onsen both morning and evening; towels were provided so it was convenient to go almost empty-handed to the bath area. The bath had non-slip mats and handrails, which made it safe for family members with mobility issues. Whether it’s due to water quality or temperature, my body stayed warm for a long time after bathing. Regular cleaning and towel replenishment kept everything clean. Breakfast honestly felt underwhelming compared to dinner; however, considering there were many guests in such a large venue, this lineup seemed practical for efficient service. The taste itself was good. The Room was clean, very spacious, brightly lit, and comfortable overall. My family seemed to enjoy their stay which made me happy too. Thank you!

    Mother's Birthday Trip

    Thank you for taking care of us during our trip to Dogo Onsen and Shimanami with my parents. It was a birthday trip for my mother! As expected from a long-established Ryokan, we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. Thank you for preparing a private room for dinner; it was very delicious. However, the air conditioning in the room could not be adjusted individually, and since it suddenly became cold that day, it felt a bit chilly. We appreciate you bringing an electric heater to the room. The mandarin orange juice faucet and the candy bar were so much fun! Thank you very much!

    Overall, I was satisfied. The dinner at night was delicious. The breakfast buffet did not have assigned seating, and waiting in line to get food was not ideal. I would prefer a non-buffet option for breakfast.

    Not only the quality of the Room, but also the seafood breakfast buffet is excellent.

    The seafood rice bowl at the breakfast buffet and Ehime's local specialties were excellent. The teppanyaki Iyo beef for dinner was tender and delicious. The Room was thoughtfully designed with attention to detail, thoroughly cleaned, and provided a comfortable stay.

    Mostly satisfied.

    The service was excellent and very satisfying. However, the quality of the shampoo provided in the Onsen was not very good, leaving a rough feeling. Additionally, there are only two elevators, so there can be some waiting time during busy hours. Other than that, everything was very satisfying.

    The breakfast buffet was excellent!

    I was looking forward to enjoying the lounge with orange juice and the post-bath sake & snack bar, but unfortunately, they were not available before check-in or after I returned from work as they had already closed. I wish at least the lounge with juice could have been open before check-in time. The baths alternate between men and women in the evening and morning, and there are baskets and towels available for use when visiting nearby hot springs, which seemed convenient even though I didn’t get to use them. Most importantly, the breakfast buffet was amazing! I regret not being able to try all the dishes, so next time I would love to book a Plan that includes dinner as well.

    The meals and the bath were excellent.

    It was a very nice Hotel. The breakfast featured plenty of local specialties, and I was amazed by the opportunity to compare different types of mandarin orange juice. The bath was comfortable and relaxing. Additionally, the Hotel staff were very attentive, accommodating late-night arrivals, early morning departures, and arranging taxis with great care. I am truly grateful for their excellent service.

    I was able to relax at Dogo Onsen.

    Conveniently located near Dogo Onsen, the shopping street, and the tram station, making it perfect for exploring the town. The room was spacious and featured a beautiful Japanese-style design. The large and clean bath area with an open-air bath allowed us to soak multiple times and relieve our travel fatigue. Unlike a hotel, check-out time was at 10:00 AM, which felt a bit early for a relaxed morning; however, considering cleaning schedules, it seemed understandable. It was my first trip to Matsuyama in a while, and I thoroughly enjoyed it thanks to this wonderful stay.

    Dogo, recommended accommodation.

    Four middle-aged men and women stayed in two Rooms. Apart from the absence of a sauna, the stay was very satisfying. Each Room had two keys, allowing guests to use the Onsen without worrying about timing. Dinner was enjoyable and filling, while the breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options in a spacious dining area for a relaxing experience.

    Is it discrimination?

    I arrived in a compact car. Upon arrival, there were several luxury cars ahead. Two staff members attended to the car in front, leaving me waiting for a while. The Room felt like an ordinary business hotel, possibly because it was standalone. The small Room was mostly occupied by the bed. The food was decent but served on a small table. There is beer available in the vending machine, but no shop selling snacks or side dishes to go with it. I don't think I will visit here again.
