    Premium Stay in Kamikochi

The service provided by the staff dispatched from both Imperial Hotels was excellent. Despite being in the mountains, the cleanliness was impeccable. The duck confit for dinner might have been better with a crispier finish on the outside. Overall, I am satisfied.

    Dream Hotel

If you are planning a trip to Kamikochi, I have always wanted to stay at the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel. The service was excellent, and the historic building was very charming. The room had a small window that gave it an attic-like atmosphere, which was lovely. The meals were also very delicious. If I have the chance, I would definitely like to stay there again.

    Got hooked on classic hotels.

Even though it is a classic hotel, the recently renovated Hotel offers excellent Facilities. The service and cuisine were impeccable, providing satisfaction beyond the price paid. The location of Kamikochi Imperial Hotel was perfect. It truly felt like a fully booked Hotel.

    Thank you very much.

I visited after a day of hiking. Although I felt a bit out of place, the staff provided such warm and welcoming service that I was able to relax completely. The delicious meals and wine were truly soothing. I would love to stay here again when I visit Kamikochi next time.

A Mountain Climbing Trip to Celebrate the 60th Birthday

I visited during the summer solstice, right after the Yakidake Mountain Route opened. We gathered to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday, and our children joined us as well. It might have been a bit lively and noisy, but thank you for warmly welcoming us and for the kind celebratory message. The weather was perfect throughout our hike and stay at the Hotel, allowing us to fully enjoy the best of Kamikochi. The next day, we walked from the Hotel to Myojin Pond via Kappa Bridge. The gentle sound of Azusa River was beautiful, making it a truly memorable trip. I would love to visit again!

    SAYAKASAYAKACHAN

The breathtaking view from Gakuzawa Hut and heartfelt gratitude to the person who returned a lost item.

I leave early with the sunrise and spend little time at the Hotel, but due to its location and comfort, I stay here for multiple night stays every year. This time, I stayed for 4 nights and visited Yokozawa and Dakesawa Hut. I didn’t expect so much snow to remain in Dakesawa, but from the hut, the red roof of the Hotel was clearly visible, which once again moved me with its beautiful presence. (The red color stands out beautifully in Kamikochi. I also love using the Hotel’s original red poncho!) When descending a snowy path from Dakesawa Hut, my backpack got caught on a branch, causing my glasses to fall out without me noticing until I returned to the Hotel. I immediately contacted both the Information Center and Dakesawa Hut about it. Although I had given up hope of finding them, within an hour, I received a call from the Information Center saying they had been found! It seems that someone who found them was a foreign visitor (details were unclear), but their kindness deeply moved me. Not only was this person’s wonderful act of kindness touching but also Kamikochi's overall hospitality—including everyone at this Hotel—seems to purify visitors' hearts even more profoundly. While it wasn’t possible for me to thank this person directly for returning my glasses safely back through proper channels would be appreciated if there are any suggestions). This year felt slightly different; perhaps due increased number tourists fewer encounters wildlife occurred compared previous visits though somewhat disappointing believe positive impact outweighs such changes grateful experience once again!

    The Charming Red Roof

This popular Hotel often becomes fully booked immediately after reservations open. At the time of booking, only rooms without balconies were available. However, I emailed in advance to check if a room with a balcony might become available on the day, and luckily, I was able to upgrade! Check-in time is at 2:00 PM, which is relatively early, and check-out is at 11:00 AM. I enjoyed a luxurious time in the room. The soap provided as an amenity is highly recommended. When I asked the staff for extra soap to take home, they kindly provided it without hesitation. The restaurant staff were all very kind as well; seeing new employees working hard alongside their senior colleagues was truly touching. Although the Hotel building itself is old and you can hear footsteps from upstairs at times, it gives off an impression of being well-maintained. The restaurant can be used without any dress code and offers satisfying meals. They also provide luggage storage services and even lend bear bells for safety during hikes. The bus conveniently stops right in front of the Hotel, making transportation easy. Having visited Kamikochi many times before, staying at this iconic red-roofed Imperial Hotel that I've always admired was truly a dream come true!

Unfortunately, it rained during our two-day stay, so we couldn't enjoy the beautiful scenery on one of the days. However, thanks to the kind hospitality of the Hotel staff and the delicious food, we had a very enjoyable stay. On the second day, it cleared up beautifully, and we were able to see the stunning Hotaka mountains, creating wonderful memories. We hope to visit again next year.

Stayed during Golden Week. Although it was fully booked, I had a relaxing time. The service was excellent, and the facility had a mountain lodge style with a resort-like atmosphere. Dinner was also fulfilling as I could enjoy Imperial Hotel cuisine in the unique Kamikochi location. I would love to visit again if I can make a reservation.

The traditional Hotel is comfortable but

Conveniently accessible as the bus stops nearby. The hospitality is excellent, with no complaints. The log house exudes a sense of history and grandeur, featuring a famous and magnificent mantelpiece. Although the building is old, the rooms are well-maintained and do not feel outdated despite being relatively small. However, due to structural limitations, some guests may find the compact unit bath significantly smaller than their home baths. That said, since it is completely separated from the toilet space, it was manageable. There were no shortages of towels provided. The separate faucet for spring water was delightful, and while the bath itself was not an Onsen, thinking of it as spring water made for an enjoyable experience. Meals were taken at a casual restaurant but were quite disappointing—something occasionally seen in traditional hotels like this one. At least a certain standard should be maintained; unfortunately, this fell below average expectations. The bread was dry and the main dish indescribable in quality. Since meals greatly influence travel satisfaction—and considering that many people prefer lighter options over high-calorie courses—a more satisfying à la carte menu at an easily accessible restaurant would have made for a much better experience overall.

A property you vow to revisit

The room amenities were very well-equipped, but I deducted one star because water leaked from the bathtub depending on the direction of the shower. However, starting with the restaurant reservation over the phone, check-in, a drink at the horn, dinner at Alpenrose, breakfast at Azusa-an (Azusa-an), and check-out, the staff at each stage provided flexible and pleasant service, making it a stay that left me already envisioning a return visit, with words of gratitude not being enough. The mantelpiece lighting event was enjoyable and magical. The meals were delicious, and I now have the delightful dilemma of whether to choose the same menu or try something new on my next visit. I look forward to visiting again.

    Early Winter Stroll in Kamikochi

Things that were there A group of monkeys among the fallen larch leaves, the first snow on the Hotaka mountain range (early morning on the 7th), the continuation of the summer bustle*1 The refreshing Rokko mountain water, warm hospitality and the fire in the fireplace, cuisine that soothes both body and mind *1 There are many foreigners visiting from all over the world, such as Western Europe and Asia, and few Japanese. According to the manager, this summer was so bustling that it seemed like the Kappa Bridge might collapse (laughs). That bustle continues even now.

    The ultimate in luxury

Imperial Hotel in Kamikochi. It's the epitome of luxury. How many times in life will you have the chance to visit Kamikochi? It's a challenging place to reach. After driving for hours on highways and mountain roads, you finally arrive, feeling the luxury as you pass under the red roof surrounded by greenery with a view of Hotaka. Enjoying coffee in front of the mantelpiece and savoring French cuisine in the main dining room gives a sense of reward. If I may say, the signature roast beef was delicious, but the cartilage? It was also cut and included in the meat, which made it difficult to chew. I think more care should be taken when cutting the meat around the bone. Additionally, the guidance on how to read the timetable and confirm the destination from the bus stop in front could be more thorough. Many elderly people were unsure about which bus to take.

I was healed by the rich nature and hospitality.

I was deeply moved and healed by the great nature when I walked through the lush Kamikochi last August! I visited again this October looking forward to the autumn leaves. Although the arrival of autumn seemed a little further away, I was able to refresh myself by seeing the colorful leaves and the clear mountain scenery! The quiz-style fireplace lighting ceremony was interesting and educational, inspired by the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel. I was very grateful for the service at the front desk and restaurant, as well as the amenities, which were exactly the same as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. It is a Hotel I would like to visit again.

The happiness of staying at the dream Stays

I had always wanted to visit Kamikochi & the Imperial Hotel. We stayed for one night and two days. Although I was disappointed by the unfortunate rain, I was comforted and saved by the hospitality and thoughtfulness of the staff. The Room is small, but it was sufficient for a couple to relax. Kamikochi, which attracts people from all over the world, offers some eccentric French cuisine, but the meals here were delicately seasoned to suit Japanese tastes, which was reassuring. As expected of the Imperial Hotel. I hope to visit again when I can see Kamikochi in clear weather, and I wish that the old good traditions remain unchanged.

    The teppanyaki corner was excellent.

This was my third time at Kamikochi Imperial Hotel, and I enjoyed the teppanyaki for the first time. The Western and Japanese cuisine were also good, but with two teppanyaki corners and a system of four groups per day, I was able to enjoy a leisurely meal while chatting with the chef, making for a pleasant experience. The staff's courteous service is another positive point. The quality of the food was excellent and the portions were just right for the elderly, though it might be a bit lacking for younger people. Next, I must try Alpenrose...

    A quiet and comfortable stay

About a 10-minute walk from Kappa Bridge, we walked along the river to get there. The log house-like design is charming, and the surroundings are very quiet. The staff's hospitality was good, and the food was delicious. Occasionally, I could hear voices from the hallway or the next room, but I thought it was because it was otherwise so quiet and free of noise. Over 90 years of history...! I hope this hotel continues its legacy. Thank you very much.

The antique room was lovely and the service was excellent!

I stayed for one night and two days, and I think the service was excellent and worth more than the price. Here are the details: 1. The room was very nice... The furnishings were antique and very cute. The plumbing was relatively new, so it didn't feel old. We had booked a twin room without a balcony, but they assigned us a room with a small balcony on the Hotaka side. According to the hotel's classification, this room is considered to have no balcony. This was not something we requested; the hotel arranged it for us. 2. The service before check-in was excellent... We stayed in Matsumoto the day before and entered Kamikochi by an early morning bus. We arrived at the Imperial Hotel before 7 a.m. When we gave our name at the front desk and mentioned that we wanted to walk around Kamikochi, they kindly explained the course to us. We also made a reservation at the restaurant, and they provided a satisfactory explanation of the menu, including Japanese cuisine from Tokyo Kitcho, which helped us decide between Japanese and Western cuisine. 3. The dinner service was excellent... We chose Western cuisine for dinner, and the glass wine was more affordable than expected. In such a mountainous area, we were very satisfied with the Imperial Hotel's cuisine and the delicious wine at a reasonable price. 4. The breakfast was good... We chose Japanese cuisine for breakfast. As expected from Tokyo Kitcho's cuisine, the miso soup was very delicious. 5. The service after check-out was also good... We checked out at 10 a.m., but after having lunch and tea at the Imperial Hotel and having some free time, they guided us to the library. This library was very calm and nice. Thanks to it, time passed quickly. Even though it was just a one-night, two-day stay, we received excellent service everywhere. Until now, I often stayed at slightly better hotels like the InterContinental or Hilton, but the service at the Imperial Hotel was impressive! It's a hotel I want to stay at again! Considering that service, I don't think the price is that high.

    Stable comfort!

It was my first stay in a while. The last time I stayed was in early spring. I was very satisfied with the French restaurant for dinner, with its consistently delicious food and the elegant service of the staff. The staff in the hotel are attentive and quickly anticipate our needs, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. Next time, I will visit to see the alpine plants in early spring.

The Kamikochi Imperial Hotel, which I had longed to visit, was as wonderful as I had imagined. The location, slightly removed from the hustle and bustle, was also nice. I would like to stay in a different season next time.

The best view with the best hospitality

Although the weather seemed uncertain before we went, we were blessed with great weather both upon arrival in Kamikochi and the following day, allowing us to enjoy Kamikochi at its best. The hotel lived up to the reputation of the Imperial Hotel, providing a very calm and relaxing stay. We chose French cuisine, and the roast beef, among other dishes, was very delicious. The time spent enjoying coffee on the terrace while admiring the view was truly relaxing and wonderful. It was a hotel I would definitely like to visit again.
