    The hospitality was ...

    The hospitality was excellent. Everyone greeted us warmly whenever we met in the hallway or lobby. During breakfast, they kindly brought a blanket when I seemed cold, which was very thoughtful. I also enjoyed watching my favorite DVD on the Room's projector.

    Hospitality of Our Staff

    The staff's hospitality is exceptional, deserving of seven stars! Their attentive service more than makes up for the Facility's age. The bath is slightly on the hotter side.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    Stayed in June 2025. It was not very crowded, possibly because it was a weekday. We arrived by car, and the staff kindly came to collect our luggage upon arrival. The room was exceptionally clean, with coffee and snacks provided, making for a comfortable stay. Dinner was served in a semi-private room, allowing us to relax and enjoy the meal. The facility was very quiet and comfortable throughout our stay. I would love to stay at this ryokan again. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Reliable IKYU Reviews

    The service, large public bath, and meals were all excellent. I have visited Minakami Onsen several times, but this was the most wonderful accommodation I have ever stayed at. Please continue to preserve this traditional accommodation for years to come.

    I visited because it was featured in a car magazine and the price was reasonable. Indeed, the building and facility are old, but they are well-maintained, clean, and there were no issues at all. The meals were delicious, and the Onsen water was gentle yet refreshing—very pleasant overall. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

    The Room is spacious and clean. The meals are quite good. Overall, considering the price, it's an incredible deal. Having stayed at various luxury Ryokans, this one offers the best value for money. Highly recommended!

    I made a Reservation after checking the Reviews on IKYU, but it was disappointing. The foreign female staff in charge of serving was polite and provided good service. Dinner The grilled char and chawanmushi were served cold. Additionally, the meatloaf was hard, which surprised me. Since I chose this place based on Reviews praising the food, it was very disappointing. Moreover, the Japanese female staff seemed busy as she brought dessert while we were still eating and quickly cleared dishes in a rushed manner. I did not feel any sense of hospitality at all. Breakfast When I opened the coffee creamer, its contents had solidified. Even shaking it didn’t help, making me worry that it might have gone bad. Onsen The quality of the spring water was good; however, there were countless spider webs in the open-air bath area, giving an impression that cleaning wasn’t thorough enough. Additionally, there was significant mold growth on the ceiling of the indoor bath area which made it difficult to relax. Room Upon entering, there was an overall smell of mold throughout the Room. The ceiling and walls also showed signs of deterioration in several places.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    It was an exceptional accommodation that exceeded my expectations. The King Bed room we stayed in was particularly impressive, equipped with trendy appliances like a Balmuda coffee maker and speakers, which was a pleasant surprise. The bed felt even larger than a standard king size—perhaps two semi-doubles combined? The fresh confectionery served at check-in and the tea snacks prepared in the room were both incredibly delicious. The exhibits related to Osamu Dazai were outstanding! Highly recommended for fans of his work. The bath area was beautifully designed with an elegant atmosphere and high ceilings, which added to its charm. I also appreciated the thoughtful touch of name stickers on slippers to avoid mix-ups—very clever! If I had to mention one minor disappointment, it would be that the water didn’t feel distinctly like Onsen water. Breakfast was highly satisfying with a wide variety of delicious options, especially the rice, which stood out for its quality. Dinner overall met our expectations; however, the herbal liqueur served as an aperitif was unexpectedly bitter and lingered on my palate, making the white wine taste quite odd afterward. Perhaps herbal liqueur doesn’t pair well with white wine? It might be worth advising future guests who order white wine about this combination. Overall, it was a truly satisfying stay, and I would love to visit again if given the opportunity!

    We visited Minakami ...

    We visited Minakami in mid-March to see snow with our family. We were delighted to see the beautiful snowy mountains from our Room. The welcome drink and snacks at check-in were delicious and made us happy. The tea in the Room, especially the roasted tea leaves, was particularly tasty! While the building shows some signs of age, it is well-maintained and provided a comfortable stay. We enjoyed a relaxing dinner in a private room, which allowed us to take our time; every dish was very delicious! The Onsen felt smaller than it appeared in photos but had a cozy atmosphere. However, one of the cups for rinsing in the Room had dirt at its bottom, which was disappointing. The sock-washing service was a small but appreciated gesture—knowing about it beforehand would have been even better! Thank you very much for everything!

    The Onsen, dinner, and hearthside service were excellent.

    Soaking in the clear hot water multiple times improved my health and made my skin smooth. The dinner, including appetizers, soup, and beef steak, was incredibly delicious. At the hearth area, depending on the time of day, miso-glazed konjac balls, fresh juice, and mushroom miso soup were prepared for guests to enjoy freely; these were also exceptionally tasty. There was a comfortable room filled with items related to Osamu Dazai's stay here in the past, which kept me entertained. I also enjoyed the snowy landscape. It was an accommodation that makes you want to return soon.

    The best hospitality

    I stayed for one night with a friend to relieve work fatigue. The Facility had some steps and an undeniable old charm, which added to its nostalgic feel, and it was kept clean, allowing us to stay comfortably. The meals had a gentle taste that soothed both the palate and the eyes. Above all, every staff member was pleasant, kind, courteous, greeted us cheerfully, and demonstrated excellent hospitality. I think it's rare to find a Property where you can be satisfied in every aspect like this. Thank you for the healing time.

    I was able to enjoy my solo trip at a leisurely pace.

    I was able to take a sudden vacation, so I made a reservation to relax and soak in the onsen. The open-air bath with a view of the snowy landscape was luxurious and wonderful. The facility was well-cleaned and thoughtfully arranged, providing a clean and relaxing space. The staff were very polite and kind. Both my body and mind were healed, making it a great holiday.

    I changed my private car to all-season tires and planned a long drive to test their performance. I set my sights on Minakami Onsen in Gunma, compared reviews, and decided on Ryokan Tanigawa. With high expectations, I departed to match the check-in time, only to be hit by an unexpected severe cold wave. Accidents and breakdowns occurred frequently on the way, turning a 3-hour journey into a 7-hour one. While impressed by the tire performance, I was anxious about whether we would make it through the snowy drive. However, all that fatigue disappeared the moment we arrived at the property. Upon arrival in extreme conditions, we were greeted by staff waiting outside. Despite the falling snow, they guided us to park without using their own umbrella and offered us an open umbrella as we got out of the car, which was truly touching hospitality. Soon after checking in, we enjoyed the much-anticipated dinner. It was a meat feast plan. The menu, which allowed us to savor Gunma's brand beef, pork, and chicken without reservation, was irresistible for meat lovers. We savored and enjoyed each dish. The Western-style main dishes were so exquisite that we ended up ordering a half bottle of red wine. The mousse and soup were delicious, and the meatloaf was packed tightly and was the best! The attentive service made the food taste even better. Additionally, the wine server service on the first floor was an incredible value. Paying 2,200 yen allowed us to drink 3,000 yen worth of wine and sake. How is this possible? You can pour about 120ml per glass for 300 yen. Is this profitable!? Is it okay!? (※This is a compliment) It was a heavenly system for wine lovers. The room we stayed in was also amazing. The hairdryer was Dyson, the kettle was Balmuda, and there was even a dining space, offering comfort surpassing foreign hotels in Tokyo. The highlight was the private open-air bath. Enjoying the onsen while touching the fluffy snow was an experience we could never have in our region, it was paradise. The service was so considerate, adjusting the dinner serving time to match the reserved time for the open-air bath, that we felt apologetic. The breakfast was also filled with delightful dishes, and we were pleased that the kitchen staff explained the various small bowls, so we took a lot. We ate so much that we skipped lunch and dinner that day, haha. Upon departure, we were informed that they had cleared the snow from our car, which filled us with gratitude. Next time, I would like to try the steak plan. I'll end here due to the word limit!

    A great Stays that made me wish I could stay longer.

    I stayed with my husband for two nights. It was a cozy place filled with comforting kindness. I loved the onsen, the meals, and the room. Despite being a long-established property, it wasn't pretentious, and everyone at Stays was wonderful. The heartfelt hospitality was delightful. I think the cost performance is excellent for a room with an open-air bath fed by a natural hot spring! Relaxing by the warm fireplace in the lounge, whether sipping a latte or wine, enhanced the feeling of being on a trip. The complimentary services in the lobby all seemed beneficial for the body. Upon arrival, there was tamakonnyaku, freshly squeezed mixed juice after dinner, and maitake mushroom miso soup before breakfast. There were also attractions within the property, such as a gallery with items related to the writer Osamu Dazai and a photo studio of Tanigawadake, so I didn't get bored even after two nights. Although mobile reception was weak, the Wi-Fi was fully equipped, making it great for a workation. I had an amazing time! I'll definitely come again!

    I had an enjoyable New Year's Eve watching the snow.

    I have been visiting since before Senjuan was established, and I have always been healed by the hostess, just as in the past when it was famous as a place where it was difficult to Complete the Reservation. Thank you as always. It was the best.

    I stayed alone, and ...

    I stayed alone, and it was a highly satisfying Ryokan suitable for solo travelers. Check-in is at 2 PM, so I leisurely enjoyed the Onsen, relaxed with a complimentary massage chair in the relaxation room, read magazines while having free coffee in the lobby, enjoyed the autumn leaves while soaking in the foot bath, and when I got a little hungry, I chatted with other guests while eating free konjac dengaku by the hearth. In the room, there were two types of snacks and tsukudani, and I enjoyed a luxurious view of the snow-covered Tanigawadake while drinking beer. The staff were friendly and approachable, and although the meal service was by a foreigner, it was polite, and their fluent Japanese showed their daily efforts. Dinner was ordinary, but the chawanmushi with an onion gratin soup flavor was exquisite, and the white rice was incredibly delicious. Breakfast was even more delicious than dinner. I liked it so much that I thought I would go back just to eat it again. It was a Ryokan overflowing with the spirit of Onsen and hospitality, and I felt healed. I definitely plan to go again.

    Thank you very much for this occasion. We stayed with my parents and my sister's family as a commemoration of my parents' golden wedding anniversary. I secretly reserved a room with an open-air bath for my parents, and they were very pleased. Thank you for arranging a private dining room and for the celebratory gift.     High satisfaction

    I was planning a day trip to Tanigawa-dake, but I was able to make a reservation the day before, so I rested my tired body from the hike. Even before check-in, the staff's hospitality was excellent and soothing. The room is spacious and clean. As far as I know, it is equipped with the latest facilities. Both dinner and breakfast use local ingredients, and the seasoning is mild and gentle. The rice is also delicious. The temperature of the onsen was just to my liking. This is a property that makes you want to visit again.

    The meal was disappointing.

    When I used Tanigawa Onsen in the summer, I wanted to visit Tanigawa Ryokan, and this time we were taken care of during our annual spring and autumn girls' trip. The overall impression was that the Room was satisfactory, but the dinner was disappointing considering the Accommodation Fee. Since we are a group of travel enthusiasts, it might be a harsh review.

    I was able to relax.

    The review was highly rated, so I decided on this ryokan, and it was a good ryokan that did not disappoint. I was a little concerned that there were many foreigners serving meals, but everyone worked hard with a smile and provided good service. There was no problem at all. The meals were mainly Japanese cuisine, but some Western dishes were also served, and I felt creativity in the dishes, all of which were delicious. Of course, water and tea were prepared in the room, and beer could be bought at the shop on the first floor, and the vending machines were at regular prices, which I thought was very reasonable. The open-air bath in the room was a little too hot, but the open-air bath in the large public bath was at a comfortable temperature and felt good. The fact that bath towels are placed in the bathhouse is also a high point. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.

    I was very satisfied with the service at Stays. It was a calm stay without interacting with foreigners or children. The bath was not too crowded, which was nice, but I wondered if there might not be enough hairdryers when the number of people increases. The foreign staff's Japanese was fluent and easy to understand. I definitely want to visit again. When that time comes, I look forward to your hospitality once more.

    From check-in to check-out, this inn is full of hospitality. The quality of the hot springs is very good, and I was able to warm up and sleep soundly. Generally, meals at inns are not very memorable, but the meals here, both dinner and breakfast, were very delicious. I would like to visit again. Thank you for taking care of us.

    Late summer getaway

    I used this place for a short trip during Silver Week. There were both things I found good and things I felt could be improved. ① Hot Spring The water was slightly hot and deep, with a very soft, mildly alkaline quality that was gentle on the skin, making it very pleasant. It was also nice that it was accessible almost 24 hours a day. I wanted to go in every day! ② Meals Dinner was very elaborate, featuring local mountain delicacies and fried ayu, all of which were delicious. The pairing with the Gunma sake tasting was excellent, and I ended up drinking a bit too much. The breakfast, with its miso soup full of ingredients and grilled fish, was all delicious. I felt that serving the salad in small cups was a great idea both in terms of portion control and reducing food waste. I thought the limited selection in the semi-buffet style was similarly well-considered. ③ Room This time, we stayed in a standard type room, but there were a few areas I thought could be improved. The toilet was leaking. Although a bucket was placed underneath to manage it and it was usable without issue, I would have appreciated an explanation as a matter of courtesy. Above all, the toilet and washroom facilities were old, and I think they should be replaced. From the manual handle type to a button type. The ventilation fan was also not working, possibly broken. If possible, I would like the door to be changed from the type with a gap at the bottom to a new one that doesn't let sound through. The creaking of the boards was noticeable at night. The lighting was the traditional daylight color, which felt a bit cold. I thought it might be more relaxing if it were changed to a warm-toned LED. ④ Customer Service Everyone was very pleasant and maintained a comfortable distance. I appreciated the small gestures, like drying our umbrellas and moving the car from the parking lot to the front entrance to keep us dry since it was raining. I ended up writing quite a few critical comments, but the meals, hot spring, and customer service were so good that they outweighed them, and I would like to use this place again. It was pouring rain this time, so next time I'll come when the weather is nice. Thank you in advance! Oh, for those staying here in the future, be careful near the starting point of the walking bath, as it's quite sharp! Haha.
