    Family trip!

    We stayed with our dog, along with my parents—six of us and three dogs. From the warm welcome upon arrival, the staff’s service was outstanding, and we were overwhelmed by the magnificent exterior and luxurious lobby. We travel every year, and this is the first time I’ve written a Review for a Hotel. It was truly a 100% satisfying Hotel, and our whole family was able to spend a fun time together with smiles. It’s such a wonderful place that one night isn’t enough—we’re already planning to celebrate my parents’ 80th birthday here next year at Hotel Kawakyu. All of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful.

    I visited with my husband to relax, and I was satisfied with this Hotel, which had a bubble-era feel. The Room was also spacious and comfortably designed. The meals were delicious as well. As for the service, it felt like there were differences depending on the staff member.

    Mother-and-daughters trip for three

    We finally got to stay at KAWAKYU, which we had long dreamed of. With my first grandchild due in two months, this time the three of us—mother and daughters—planned a relaxing trip to fully enjoy everything the Hotel has to offer. Thanks to the staff, the wonderful Facilities and surroundings, and the meals, we were able to spend an even more special time than we had hoped for. Thank you very much. Next time, we will definitely come back to stay as three generations.

    I really enjoyed the buffet.

    I’d seen it on YouTube a few times and had wanted to visit this Hotel, so I was happy to finally stay here. I went with my 90-year-old mother, and she also said it was a wonderful Hotel. The Room was very spacious, and my son drove us there. We were able to sleep separately in different Rooms, so I think it’s a great option for a three-generation family trip. The King’s buffet was delicious, and the bath area was stylish as well.

    It’s undeniably dated.

    We stayed here for a family trip during summer vacation. My elderly parents appreciated the tall chair in the bathroom and the luxurious front desk, but some Facilities showed signs of age throughout, which may be unavoidable. Although the building was constructed at a cost of 40 billion yen at the time, it is understandable that maintenance would require even more expense.

    This is my third stay. Each time, I enjoy staying in a different Room. This time, I was upgraded and had an elegant, relaxing time. I also bought the Kawakyu Sable cookies sold at the shop. They were thick, buttery, and delicious. I thought it would be nice if these cookies were also provided in the Room.

    Although the buildin...

    Although the building is old, it seems to be well maintained and clean. Just walking through the first-floor lobby and the museum on the second floor was satisfying. However, perhaps due to lingering effects from when smoking was allowed in the past, there were areas where an odor was somewhat noticeable. There was a wide variety of food options, and overall it was good. I added the wine free-flow option, but it tasted slightly flat/low in alcohol. Since it’s all-you-can-drink, I felt that might be expected. The pool was not worth paying 2,500 yen to use. The changing room lockers did not lock, and the shower rooms were old with hair collecting in gaps. I understand age can’t be helped, but it did not feel clean. I won’t use it next time. The baths were very good. I used both facilities; they were clean and very spacious. As it was just before summer vacation, there may have been many new staff members. There were some issues with service at the front desk and restaurant. I received incorrect explanations at times, and even simple calculations seemed uncertain, which made me uneasy. The building itself has charm and atmosphere, but I felt the overall experience did not live up to it.

    Your First Stay at Kawakyu Hotel

    We stayed as three generations with my elderly mother. I was happy to finally stay at this Hotel I had always wanted to visit. Just as rumored, the dazzling gold entrance immediately caught my eye. The Room was very spacious and made us feel truly elegant. The meals were high quality and delicious. However, there was a step in the bath area, which made things a bit difficult with an elderly guest. I also felt it would be even better if the large public bath were a little more spacious. Overall, we had a wonderful time.

    A truly royal buffet.

    We stayed one night in the Modern Japanese Suite for our 2-year-old child’s birthday. The building, service quality, and food were all outstanding. Just as rumored, the impressive architecture, interiors, and many artworks felt extraordinary and were a joy to take in. The Room was also wonderful—the bay view was beautiful, and the clean, simple design made it very comfortable. The bath area was very spacious, with lounge chairs throughout where you could relax. Drinks were available inside as well, making it a bath you could happily stay in for hours. The changing room was kept clean too, with staff frequently replacing towels. In particular, the open-air bath at the large public bath on the first floor was surrounded by nature and truly excellent. And true to its name “King’s Buffet,” the selection was abundant and everything was delicious. The dinner steak and the seafood rice bowl at breakfast were of a quality you wouldn’t expect from a buffet—we were extremely satisfied. Because it was our child’s birthday, they took commemorative photos in the lobby at check-in and gave us printed photos at check-out. We were deeply impressed by their hospitality as well. It was a truly wonderful one-night stay. This is a Hotel we would definitely love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    We had a truly wonderful holiday. Starting with the in-house history tour, we felt thoughtful hospitality in every detail. Among the heartfelt dishes, the King’s melon juice, French toast, black curry, and Kishu plum juice were all outstanding. The Onsen provided towels, and the relaxing space where we could unwind while looking outside was a very happy moment for us as well. Thank you for such a wonderful experience unlike any other Hotel.

    Family Trip to Wakayama

    On our once-a-year family trip, we stayed at Hotel Kawakyu in Wakayama. Unfortunately it rained, but it actually made our time at the Hotel even more enjoyable. We were able to relax everywhere—the lobby, lounge, Room, and baths. There were six of us, and we enjoyed table tennis and card games as well, which made for great memories. Of course, the “King’s Buffet” lived up to its reputation and we were very satisfied.

    We had a wonderful time.

    It’s been a while since my last stay at Kawakyu. I always make my Reservation through IKYU. The Diamond benefit of late check-out is much appreciated. The Room has been renovated, and the bathroom area was also very clean. I always enjoy looking around the property. The King’s Buffet is just as enjoyable as expected, with seasonal menu changes that are fun to look forward to. The large public bath on the second floor is wonderful. I look forward to staying again next time.

    We stayed as a famil...

    We stayed as a family. We had researched quite a bit beforehand, so when we arrived, everything made sense. The Room had a modern Japanese style with a great view, and we were very satisfied. The King’s buffet offered an impressive variety—there was no way we could try everything—but both breakfast and dinner were delicious. It was also wonderful to learn about the history of Kawakyu through the video during our museum tour. Thank you very much.

    Almost perfect.

    I had heard from an acquaintance that it was a wonderful place. First of all, the luxurious interior and the museum were impressive. The variety of the buffet dishes was excellent. I also really liked how clean the baths were, and the private washing booths. The staff were well trained, and I had a very pleasant stay. The Room was spacious as well, so I could relax comfortably. One disappointing point is that maintenance seems to be struggling to keep up... For example, the entrance door to the Room made noise, and it was a shame that the roof color visible from the window looked faded. Because this Hotel feels like a work of art in itself, I understand maintenance must be difficult, but I hope you will keep it up. If you ever raise funds through crowdfunding for exterior repairs and similar work, I would be happy to participate. This is one of the Accommodations I would like to stay at again.

    Tradition

    I believe the spirit passed down from the founder to the second generation still gives this building an overwhelming aura for all who see it. Although it was built as an Accommodation, the more you look at its interiors, the more they evoke European old castles and historic Hotels. It’s hard to put into words, so I recommend staying here. I have traveled both in Japan and abroad, and Kawakyu is outstanding. However, the staff feel somewhat casual, and I hope they will develop a level of service worthy of this building.

    The Best Holiday

    We stayed as a family of three. This was our second visit. We really love both the building and the staff. We waited until 3:00 PM while enjoying a welcome drink, then headed to our Room. From 4:00 PM, we joined the museum tour with about 30 participants. It was easy to understand and very enjoyable. We were able to relax in the bath, and the sauna—and the cold lemon water—were excellent. The steak was great, and the dishes were beautifully presented. The live-kitchen flambé performance also added to the excitement.

    Anniversary

    After seeing it on TV, I made a Reservation because I wanted to stay at a Hotel with a gorgeous atmosphere at least once. It felt like a museum, which was wonderful, and the Room was spacious so I could relax comfortably. As for the food, I wish the desserts had been a bit more creative, but the roast beef, breakfast seafood rice bowl, sukiyaki, and curry were all very delicious. I’m disappointed that I lost an important pair of earrings in the bathroom. I would like to stay again next year.

    The Finest Hospitality in Every Detail

    My stay coincided with my 66th birthday. From arrival at the Hotel to checkout the next day, I received wonderfully warm service, making it a memorable two days. The dinner buffet and breakfast buffet featured fresh ingredients, well-balanced seasoning, and attentive hospitality—I truly want to return. Thank you again!

    It was surprisingly in the city center.

    The Onsen sauna on the second floor was excellent. The bedding was comfortable, and I slept very well. I didn’t have high expectations for the buffet, and there are indeed nicer options elsewhere. Above all, the all-you-can-drink wine was extremely poor and disappointing. This is a Hotel best enjoyed without high expectations.

    First Trip

    This was our first girls-only trip—my mother, my two daughters, and my granddaughter. Everyone at the Hotel was kind, all the meals were delicious, and the Room was spacious and clean.     Everything exceeded expectations.

    From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was overwhelmed by its luxury. The Hotel even has an art museum, where I could take my time admiring works by Chagall and Dalí. The dinner I had been looking forward to—the “King’s Buffet”—exceeded all expectations. Tempura fried right in front of you, a tuna carving show, a live kitchen with steak, abalone, and shrimp, and countless appetizers. A feast for the eyes and for the palate. It truly was entertainment for food lovers. As it was a special anniversary, they prepared a dedicated table for us and even took commemorative photos—another wonderful memory. What also stood out was the refined atmosphere among guests. There was none of the usual rush you often see at buffets; everyone politely made room for one another and enjoyed their meal in a relaxed mood. I believe a Hotel’s value isn’t only in its building or cuisine, but also in the ambiance created by the people who gather there. A beautiful setting, delicious food, heartfelt hospitality, and a comfortable atmosphere. All of it together made for an extremely satisfying stay.

    A Hotel that makes you feel like you're staying in an ancient castle—an indulgent experience.

    Every time I visited Shirahama Onsen, I had wanted to stay here at least once. I had heard about its exterior reminiscent of an old European castle, the spacious Rooms, and the excellent cuisine. It was right after a typhoon had passed, but it truly was a Hotel that makes you feel luxurious—thanks to the staff’s courteous service and the many dishes showcasing local ingredients. The Room door was a bit hard to close, and parts such as the carpet felt slightly dated, but everything was well cleaned and the friendly staff made my stay very comfortable. There were many live-cooking stations, and I was especially surprised by the wide variety of sweets. Thank you for all the wonderful dishes—we were very satisfied.

    Our family trip was very satisfying.

    I have stayed here three times with friends, and my dream of staying at this top-class Accommodation with my family finally came true. Not only is the Hotel wonderful, but the staff were also incredibly kind, and we were completely satisfied. We fully enjoyed the King’s buffet and the Onsen as well. Our one-year-old grandchild ran around excitedly and had a great time. Even with children, we could stay with peace of mind and truly enjoy our visit.

    This is a Hotel I’d love to stay at again.

    This was one of the Hotels I had always wanted to stay at, and this time I was able to visit on a trip with two friends. Some parts of the building felt a bit dated, but it was wonderful, and the Room was so spacious that we almost got lost. The staff were very polite and attentive overall, but one person at the shop was unfriendly enough that it made us feel uncomfortable. There was a large amount of pigeon droppings on the balcony off the living area of our guest Room, so we kept the curtains closed; I know it may be difficult, but I think some pigeon prevention measures would be helpful. The King’s Buffet was delicious across the board—I ate too much. The bath area was also spacious and very relaxing. I would definitely like to visit again.

    A Trip to Celebrate a 90th Birthday

    We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. After informing you that she uses a wheelchair, you thoughtfully arranged a bath chair, an appropriate table location for meals, and even a convenient stopping spot in the parking area, making everything stress-free. Both my mother and we daughters were extremely satisfied and had a wonderful time. You also took commemorative photos for us, and even after returning home my mother looks at them fondly and says how much fun it was. Next time, I’d like to bring my mother again along with my sons’ families.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    All the Rooms were spacious and comfortable, with two large TVs installed, and the phone charging ports by the pillow were very convenient. It was easy to go to the bath without bringing anything, and there were gowns available so we could relax. It was also nice that they provided ice pops and lemon water. Dinner was fun, with a tuna carving show and a live dessert flambé demonstration. There were so many things I wanted to eat that I ended up overeating. We walked around the property and enjoyed a space that felt different from everyday life.
