Overall, it was a good Hotel.

The Room was clean and a good size. In the South Wing, you need to go down to the first floor to reach the main building, but it was cleaner than the main building and had a calm atmosphere, which I liked. However, the walls seemed thin and loud thumping noises from next door carried quite a bit, and it was disappointing that the bathroom was a unit bath despite the Room size. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and there is also a large public bath, so overall it was a Hotel I was satisfied with.

    Satisfied with the breakfast.

Breakfast felt a bit crowded, but the selection was extensive and enjoyable. The spa was also crowded and not very relaxing, so on the second day I used the Room bath instead; however, there was no shower curtain, which made showering difficult. I would like the bath area to be a more relaxing environment.

    Fun Summer Vacation

I have stayed here many times, and it is a Hotel where I can always spend my time comfortably. I feel the breakfast is a little expensive, but you can also use the spa, and it is convenient for going anywhere. I will stay here again. Thank you in advance.

There are only a few check-in counters.

Although the South Wing was newly opened in 2022, the check-in counter is only in the Main Building. Despite the increased accommodation capacity, the number of check-in counters has not changed from before. I arrived at the Hotel at 17:30, but even at that time I had to wait about 15 minutes to check in. It has been changed so that all guests can use the Karlovy Vary Spa on the 14th floor of the Main Building free of charge.

Relax and unwind in the hot springs.

I stayed here on the third day of my 3-night, 4-day trip to Sapporo. I loved the white exterior, reminiscent of Hawaii’s Ala Moana SurfRider, and it immediately lifted my mood from the moment I entered. The bath facilities were surprisingly well-equipped for a Hotel: two jacuzzis and a sauna. However, it was a bit confusing that you go up past the lockers and then there is another changing area—some clearer signage would help. Also, I was disappointed by the poor manners of some foreign guests: used towels left on sinks and chairs without being put away. Even when it was crowded, some people used face masks and beauty devices at the hair dryer seats. Unless notices are made more visible or a separate powder room is provided, I worry Japanese guests may stop coming. The dining area was spacious enough to match how busy it was, and the seared salmon rice bowl was delicious. If these points are improved, I would like to stay again.

This will be my go-to Accommodation.

I usually stay at a Hotel connected to Sapporo Station, but this was my first time here. The staff at the breakfast venue in the morning were very attentive, and the selection of dishes was extensive—everything tasted excellent. I stayed for two nights and never got bored; there were so many options I couldn’t decide what to choose. The automatic pancake machine pancakes were surprisingly better than those at Japanese chain Hotels in Tokyo. The Onsen Facility was so good that I used it many times. This will be my go-to Accommodation whenever I visit Sapporo.

This was our first stay in the South Wing, and as it is the newer wing, everything was clean and well maintained.

A Hotel Where You Can Stay with Peace of Mind

As expected of Hotel Monterey Edelhof Sapporo. I had a comfortable stay from check-in to check-out. The spa staff were especially attentive and provided outstanding hospitality. It was helpful and easy to understand that the spa crowd level was shown on the Room TV. Guests can use the spa free of charge, which is a great value. I would like to stay here again on my next visit to Sapporo.

You can’t go wrong with the Monterey Group.

I have stayed at Monterey Group properties across Japan, but this was my first time staying in Hokkaido. At check-in, I was pleasantly surprised with a Room upgrade, and I was truly grateful. I had an early flight the next morning and couldn’t relax as much as I wanted, which was very disappointing, but it was wonderful to enjoy the spa and unwind in the lounge. In the evening, I could take it easy on the sofa with a drink—something I believe was possible thanks to the upgrade. I’ve also stayed in Kyoto, Kobe, and Osaka, but this Hotel is now my number one. Next time, I’ll come back to relax properly. Thank you very much.

It was a very clean Room.

We stayed in a Deluxe Corner Twin on the 20th floor. Everything, including the washroom handles, was shining and gave a very clean impression. One concern was that the spa’s available hours are short. Perhaps because of this, even the men’s area—which is usually relatively quiet on weekdays—was crowded. For women, there were times when guests had to wait for an available locker or faucet. For us, who look forward to enjoying the baths, this was the only drawback. Everything else was excellent, so it was a bit disappointing.

The large public bath and breakfast were disappointing.

The large public bath needs improvement. Also, the breakfast served in the banquet hall is rather bland.

An elegant, refined building and an authentic spa (Onsen) are the highlights.

This Hotel has many great qualities, and I am a repeat guest. First, it offers an authentic Onsen. For Onsen lovers, this is a real treat. After a full day of sightseeing, soaking in the gentle hot spring water and then relaxing in the relaxation room while enjoying the night view greatly enhances the overall travel experience. Being able to use it in the morning as well feels just like staying at an Onsen Ryokan. Second, the building and interior have a dignified, classic atmosphere. I heard it is inspired by an Austrian aristocratic residence, and it truly feels that way—guests were not rushing around or being noisy, so I could unwind while admiring the furnishings. It feels like a Hotel designed for adults. Third and beyond: breakfast that lets you enjoy Hokkaido’s flavors; attentive service that reflects the high level of the staff; and impeccable Room cleaning (there was even a card with the name of the person in charge—I found myself saying, “Thank you very much.”). For someone like me who loves travel and Onsen, this was the perfect Hotel. I won’t be able to visit Hokkaido again right away, but I definitely want to make another Reservation next time.

Breakfast is now even more delicious!

On my previous stay, I was satisfied with almost everything, but I did have one complaint about the breakfast. This time it had been improved, and everything was delicious. The mini seafood rice bowl, ramen, soup curry, and salads were all fresh. The bread was also great—I ate too much. Previously there was only one coffee machine and it got crowded, but this time there were two, so I could make coffee smoothly without getting irritated. The experienced older gentleman with gray hair who is always there responded promptly and left a very good impression. Also, whenever I met the cleaning staff on the floor, everyone made way for me and greeted me with a smile. The same courteous service came from staff of other nationalities as well, which showed a high standard of training. I am very satisfied with the front desk staff’s impression and services such as ice cream and beer at the large public bath. Thank you very much!

I love the atmosphere of Hotel Monterey and have stayed at Hotel Monterey properties in various locations. Hotel Monterey Sapporo, in particular, was very convenient thanks to its great location.

    The Facility was disappointing.

It was a wonderful Hotel, including the service. However, there were not enough power outlets, and it was difficult to charge my phone. In particular, in the twin room there was one outlet by one side of the bed, but on the other side there was neither an outlet nor a light. Since it is such a wonderful Hotel, I hope you will improve this.

    Bath Hours

The morning bath opening time is too late. Please make it available from 6:00 a.m. at the latest. The evening bath closing time is too early. With a late check-in, you can’t use it! In the morning, if your train is early, you can’t use it either. This is a Hotel I never want to use again.

    A Comfortable Stay

Conveniently located near Odori Park and the Clock Tower, with a convenience store next door. The Room was comfortable, and I also used the large public bath. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, including Hokkaido specialties, which I really enjoyed. With a calm atmosphere overall, I was very satisfied.

Important notice about the large public bath (spa): It may be unavailable even during the posted hours.

I stayed on 3/27 because the large public bath and the convenient location near the station were appealing. At the front desk, I was told that reception for the public bath was open until 22:30, so I went early. However, a female staff member at reception spoke in a very overbearing manner, saying we had to wait our turn because there were no locker keys available. Many guests were made to wait standing at the entrance. When someone who arrived later asked what would happen if they could not make it in time, she replied, “Even if you are still bathing, you must leave by 23:00!” I was shocked by how unpleasant this response was. Naturally, the guest who received that explanation was angry as well. At minimum, guests who arrive before the reception cutoff should be allowed to bathe. If your policy is that bathing may not be possible even when guests check in within hours due to crowding, this should be clearly stated at the time of Reservation. What’s more, once I finally received a locker key and entered, there were plenty of empty lockers and many open spaces on the changing-room shelves. I believe the Hotel should properly train its spa reception staff and improve its operations overall. The lack of sincerity toward guests was disappointing. Aside from this staff member’s behavior, it is an excellent Hotel—the food was delicious, and the breakfast venue staff were wonderful. It felt comfortable throughout and truly lived up to Monterrey standards. However, because of this incident with how the spa is operated, I will not choose this Hotel again, which is very unfortunate. If you plan to stay here expecting access to a large public bath facility (public bath), please be aware of this issue.

    The sauna reception was disappointing.

I use this Hotel every year when traveling to Sapporo. I always debate between this and the Grand Hotel, but I end up choosing Monterey for its Onsen, sauna, and body scrub services. I was looking forward to it again this time, but the reception service was terrible, and the therapist's attitude was poor—it felt like a cheap massage parlor experience—so I canceled. This time was disappointing, but everything else maintained the reliable Monterey quality.

I would like to stay again.

I got a bit lost finding the hotel entrance on my first stay, but once inside, it was a very elegant and beautiful building. I appreciated that the in-room wear was separate pieces. The spa was spacious and relaxing, though I felt its operating hours were a bit short. It would also be more convenient if the alcohol service hours were extended. It would be nice to have single-use cosmetics and drip coffee provided in the room. The staff were very pleasant, and I had a comfortable stay. I’d love to stay here again when visiting Sapporo!

    Thank you for your patronage.

On December 13th, due to heavy snowfall in Hokkaido and flight cancellations, my wife and son had to stay an extra night at this Hotel in Sapporo. Despite arriving more than 30 minutes earlier than the check-in time after a tiring journey from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo, they were kindly allowed to go straight to their Room, which they said was a great relief. They also used the large public bath and massage services, which helped ease their fatigue from the previous day. Thank you so much for your hospitality. We will definitely stay here again!

    Transportation is convenient.

I wished there were more amenities in the Room, especially cleansing products. It was nice to have a humidifier provided, but when I tried to refill it with water, I noticed dust? debris? mold? floating in the water tank, which was disappointing. I was also confused about whether to change clothes in the locker or the dressing area for the bath. The Room itself was old but well-cleaned and pleasant.

    First stay in Sappor...

First stay in Sapporo for 2 nights. The interior of the Hotel had a European classical atmosphere, which was lovely. The Room size was comfortable for two people without feeling cramped. One concern was the flow from the dressing area to the bath in the public bath area. You undress in the dressing room, climb stairs to reach the bathtub, and since the washroom is on that floor, you have to go back down to get your towel and then climb up again—this back-and-forth movement felt inconvenient and required extra caution for us older guests. The bath itself was pleasant, and we appreciated having drinks available in the lounge. However, we found it uncomfortable that room temperature could not be adjusted individually; even using the wall panel didn’t change anything, making it uncomfortably warm at times. We hope individual Room temperature control can be implemented in future stays. Breakfast lacked local Hokkaido ingredients as expected, which was a bit disappointing; however overall it’s a clean Hotel with an enjoyable experience!

    Exceptional Hospitality

The breakfast buffet venue was spacious, with no sense of crowding, and the food was delicious and excellent. Both the service and cleanliness were flawless! Although there were no amenities like lotion in the guest room, which is why I deducted one star, this is definitely a Hotel I will revisit.

    A Fulfilling Stay

We stayed in a triple room as a family of three for the first time in a while. Check-in was smooth, so we quickly relaxed at the spa. Since it was an early time slot, it wasn't crowded, which was nice. However, the overall space felt a bit narrow. The sauna room was spacious. The view from the window was refreshing and uplifting. This time, we chose a plan with breakfast included and were very satisfied with the meal. The dishes were suitable for everyone and not overly elaborate, which we appreciated. However, it felt like some of the food lacked warmth, which was slightly disappointing. Considering how affordable this plan was, we were overall very satisfied with our stay. We would love to stay at this hotel again if given another opportunity!

    Excellent value for money!

As always, the reception staff provided a sense of reassurance, and I felt at ease seeing the familiar veteran male staff member at the breakfast venue. The room was clean and well-maintained, with water already filled in the humidifier tank. After check-out, I even received a call about forgotten items—thank you for that. The large public bath was available for use, and complimentary drinks and ice were provided, which made me very satisfied. However, perhaps due to its great cost-performance... I hope for some improvements in the breakfast menu. The grilled fish (mackerel) was tough; the oil from the fried Pacific saury felt heavy; and although I thought I chose soft-boiled eggs, they turned out to have firm yolks despite their orange color—perhaps due to time? As for rice... it would be nice if it tasted better. The croissants were delicious! The omelet station staff gave advice on toppings which made it enjoyable to eat. There were also two coffee machines available so everything went smoothly when getting coffee. Although my comments on breakfast are strict, everything else was satisfying. I would love to stay at this hotel again. Thank you very much!

    The Room smelled bad.

The non-smoking Room smelled like smoke upon entering, or perhaps it was an odor of aging? I used the deodorizing spray provided in the Room on the carpet, curtains, and chairs, which eliminated the smell. Shouldn't this be part of the cleaning staff's responsibilities? Can it even be called cleaning if deodorizing isn't done? Additionally, there was a single strand of hair on what seemed to be face soap in the second bottle from the left in the bathroom, which was very unpleasant. It gave me an impression that Sapporo’s lack of major tourist attractions is reflected in its mediocre level of cleanliness. I also opted for breakfast included with my stay. However, sitting by a window with dirty curtains stained by what appeared to be spills from someone before made eating quite uncomfortable. While I appreciated how polite and professional the front desk staff were, there were significant shortcomings in cleanliness and attention to detail that created a stark contrast. By the way, I noticed someone with tattoos using your public bath facilities—are such rules allowed within Sapporo city limits?

    Highly satisfied.

I felt a strong sense of history and charm. The only slight disappointment was that the view from the Room was obstructed by buildings. However, overall, I would like to stay again.

Ideal for those who want to enjoy a relaxing stay at the Hotel...

This hotel is suitable for those who want to enjoy a relaxing stay, but not recommended for active travelers. The public bath (spa) closes at 10 PM and opens at 7 AM. If you return late, you'll have to settle for the room shower. Breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, but there was already a long line at that time. Additionally, each group has to check in with their card key via computer, causing further delays and morning stress. I booked this hotel based on a recommendation from an acquaintance, but it was inconvenient for me as I needed to catch an 8 AM train from Sapporo.
