    Wonderful Ryokan

    My parents used to stay at this Ryokan often, so I had wanted to visit at least once. The food was all delicious, and the hospitality was excellent. However, perhaps because the building is old, there was a strong sewage smell in the bathroom, which was very disappointing.

    I made this Reservat...

    I made this Reservation as a gift for my parents. At just under 200,000 yen per night, I had high expectations and felt reassured. However, both at the time of booking and after the Reservation was made, I was surprised by how unhelpful the communication was. There was no reply to my messages, and the responses to my requests were vague. My parents were happy, but for me it left a bitter feeling of nothing but anxiety.

    The Facility was imp...

    The Facility was impressive and the food was very delicious, but unfortunately I felt that the excellent Facility was not designed from the guest’s perspective. For example, when sitting on the chair at the vanity, my face did not appear in the mirror at all due to its height, making it impossible to apply makeup while seated. Also, there were no amenities such as body soap or shampoo provided for the open-air bath in the Room. In addition, I felt it was unnecessary for the floor heating in the washroom and bedroom to be on during a stay in June. Also, when we were shown to our Room, explanations such as how to use the safe and guidance about inside the property were insufficient, so we later had to confirm with another attendant.

    You can enjoy a wond...

    You can enjoy a wonderful garden view from the Room. Relax in a traditional Japanese house. Very clean. The bath is made of hinoki cypress and smells wonderful. The staff’s pleasant greetings. I’m satisfied that I was finally able to stay as I had long hoped. The geta sandals were a little difficult to walk in.

    We visited during Go...

    We visited during Golden Week for a birthday trip. From the warm welcome to the lounge, Room, baths, and meals, everything throughout our stay was wonderful and made it a truly unforgettable trip. The view from the Room was beautiful, and we were able to spend a relaxing, luxurious time. Every dish was genuinely delicious; even though the portions were generous, it was so good that I finished everything for the first time. All of the staff were consistently kind and attentive, which made our entire stay very comfortable. We also went to an outside bath, but it was quite crowded—so much so that we felt completely satisfied with just the Ryokan’s baths. In particular, the in-Room bath had perfect temperature and excellent water quality, and it was incredibly soothing. I’ve been traveling about once every two months for many years, but this is the first Ryokan that truly made me think, “I definitely want to come back.” Next time, I’d love to visit during crab season. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

    We had a truly memorable stay.

    • Guest Rooms & Amenities We stayed in a Hiratakan Room this time. On the IKYU Reservation details, it was listed only as an “8-tatami Japanese-style room,” so I didn’t expect it to be a Hiratakan Room. It felt far more spacious than you’d imagine for 8 tatami mats, and we were able to truly relax. Since it’s a bit far from the entrance, I felt it’s ideal when you want to take it easy in your Room rather than be out and about. • Hospitality & Service Excellent. Not only our attendant, but also staff we passed in the hallways greeted us properly—there’s no other way to describe it than impressive. It’s rare to experience service this pleasant. We’ve stayed at many places with high Review ratings, but this made me feel there really is a difference between long-established Ryokan and newer ones. • Onsen & Baths The large public bath didn’t have quite the same impact compared with Shogetsutei (which is simply outstanding), but it was still spacious enough to relax comfortably. • Facility & Equipment What surprised me first was how spotless everything was—truly sparkling clean. I’m impressed they can maintain an older building in such great condition. The garden is relatively compact, but very beautiful and definitely photogenic. We also toured the museum, which had many fascinating exhibits and was enjoyable. Since it was fully booked during the holiday period, I imagined it would feel like a secluded stay, but I unexpectedly ran into other guests quite often in the hallways. • Dining There were many dishes, and the crab, beef, and conger eel at dinner were exceptionally delicious. I was very happy that my family could enjoy such top-class cuisine—it made me glad we came. Dinner was so impressive that breakfast felt a bit ordinary by comparison. • Overall Satisfaction I’m truly glad we were able to stay at Nishimuraya. It wasn’t just luxurious—it was a wonderful stay that really stayed with us. A fantastic Ryokan that makes me want to return again. Thank you very much.

    Thank you very much.

    We had a truly wonderful time. It was my wife’s birthday, and everyone at the Accommodation spoke to us and made her feel special, which made her very happy. As for the meals, not only was everything delicious, but the portions were just right. Even my wife, who doesn’t eat much, finished everything and said she was very satisfied. (The rice was exceptionally good.) Both of us have some lower back and shoulder issues, so we felt the bedding could have been a bit softer. We also felt that a sleep environment that makes it easier to lie down and get up would be helpful. We thought it was a wonderful Ryokan with a rich history. We also came to love Kinosaki Onsen. We would love to visit again.

    As expected from a long-established business.

    Although the building is old, it has been made very convenient, and the Rooms and their Facilities have been improved through renovations, so we were able to stay very comfortably. The meals were delicious. The Onsen Facilities were also excellent. Everything was kept very clean, the service was great, and the staff were always pleasant and attentive—there were many moments that reminded us why this is such a long-established inn. Since we wanted to fully enjoy the Onsen and relax at a leisurely pace, if we had to mention one thing, we would have appreciated a checkout time around 12:00. We would love to visit again.

    The Finest Relais & Châteaux

    All the staff we met greeted us with smiles at all times, making this a truly pleasant Ryokan. At Hirata Sukiya, which we had heard was well worth seeing, we were able to enjoy a museum-like sense of luxury. The in-Room bath was wonderful as well, but we think it would have been even better if it had been Onsen water rather than heated water. The crab-focused meals were excellent both morning and evening, and we were able to spend a blissful time. It was a memorable Ryokan with everything coming together perfectly, and even now the two of us keep saying over and over, “Amazing—so good.” Thank you very much.

    A superb blend of classic Ryokan charm and modern convenience

    After connecting flights from Tokyo, my mother and I stayed here together. At Nishimuraya, we felt a wonderful blend of “the charm of a good old Ryokan” and “modern convenience.” 1) Staff service The staff picked up on our needs from our conversations and demeanor, responding accurately and promptly. In particular, when I was looking for a hair cap in the bath area and when we couldn’t lock the Room properly from the outside, they noticed right away and helped immediately—my mother was truly moved. Although many of the staff were young, everyone worked earnestly, and their sincerity and diligence really came through. 2) Guest room Everything we needed was provided, so we never felt inconvenienced at all. When the futons were laid out, the bedside light had an outlet built in, allowing us to charge our smartphones within reach—an impressively thoughtful touch. The TV was also connected to Wi‑Fi so we could enjoy Netflix, which made the up-to-date amenities especially appealing. 3) Meals We had the full-course local Matsuba crab meal, and it was the most memorable crab we’ve ever had—both my mother and I were deeply impressed. The Tajima beef was equally flavorful with an excellent sauce pairing; thanks to careful hidden knife work, it was easy to enjoy even with chopsticks. The white rice was also outstanding—we ended up eating too much at both dinner and breakfast. 4) Evening alcohol free-flow Only red and white wine were offered; if local sake from nearby breweries were also available, it would help guests feel even more of the region’s charm. We would be happy if you would consider this in the future. This is an Accommodation I had hoped to visit “someday” for 15 years, so having that wish come true made for a truly wonderful experience. It may be difficult to visit often due to the distance from Tokyo, but we would love to return again.

    At last, a long-awaited trip to Nishimuraya Honkan in Kinosaki

    In mid-February, just as the harsh cold spell finally seemed to ease, I made my long-awaited trip to Kinosaki and Nishimuraya Honkan by train. I chose the Room “Kumoi,” and for dinner enjoyed the seasonal course featuring live Matsuba crab and Tajima beef (“Yukimatsu”) at Sanpou Nishimatsuya. I was picked up at Kinosaki Onsen Station, settled into a Room full of history, and was treated to matcha service—then spent a while simply admiring the view from the window. Although it rained, I still made the most of it by visiting several public bathhouses, then returned to enjoy the Onsen in the inn before heading to dinner at Sanpou Nishimatsuya as guided. I was warmly welcomed and seated at the counter, where a female staff member—also a certified sommelier—recommended drinks perfectly suited to each dish. The live Matsuba crab was exceptionally fresh and served in a variety of preparations that you truly can’t experience elsewhere. It was a delicious course that left me completely satisfied. Breakfast offered great variety, and I also enjoyed another morning soak in the Onsen. After checkout, my luggage was delivered to the station, and I happily walked through the lively streets of Kinosaki Onsen on my way there—savoring this long-awaited visit to Nishimuraya Honkan in the best possible mood. I would love to return again.

    A spotless, well-maintained interior and a charming town.

    Everything was thoroughly cleaned, and it felt wonderful. The mochi you can grill over the irori as a welcome sweet was also a great touch. There are three Onsen, and we were satisfied with all of them. The amenities were luxurious (Guerlain), and the shower water pressure was excellent. We didn’t expect much from the in-room bath since it isn’t an Onsen, but my mother, who has difficulty walking, could only use the in-room bath. It was very clean, bright with a view of the garden, and she seemed very pleased. We visited during crab season, which made it even better. The way the whole town of Kinosaki comes together to promote tourism is truly impressive.

    We visited for the first time with my parents and daughter. Although Kinosaki Onsen felt a bit far from Tokyo, staying at Nishimuraya was truly worth it! The staff's hospitality, the meals at Sanbou, breakfast, and the onsen were all excellent. It was a pity we could only stay for one night. I wish we could have stayed for two nights. I would love to stay again!

    This was our first time staying at Nishimuraya Honkan. We used it to celebrate my mother-in-law's 77th birthday, and we are very grateful for the wonderful hospitality. Dinner was the Plan with 1.5 crabs, which left us completely satisfied. The Room we stayed in had been recently renovated, making it both beautiful and impeccably clean. The private bath in the Room was also excellent. We would love to stay here again!

    The hospitality was excellent.

    This was my first time staying at Nishimuraya Honkan. I chose the Plan with 1.5 servings of crab, and I thoroughly enjoyed a full meal of crab. The staff were kind and friendly, allowing me to relax comfortably. The price is reasonable for the experience, and I found it worth every penny. I would love to stay here again!

    I stayed with my grandmother and mother, making it a group of three. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive to my grandmother, who has difficulty walking, allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay. The room, meals, and everything else were exceptional, and we were deeply impressed by the thoughtful service provided by the staff. The large public bath was almost like a private experience due to good timing, which made it even more enjoyable. Next time, I would love to visit for a Multiple Night Stay!

    It was a wonderful Ryokan.

    It was my first visit to Kinosaki Onsen. I was drawn to the photos of the beautiful garden and the historic building, which led me to make a Reservation. The ground-floor Room facing the garden was quiet and conveniently close to the bath, lounge, and front desk—perfect for my husband, who has some difficulty walking. Thank you for your thoughtful arrangement of a table seat during dinner as well. Both dinner and breakfast were seasonal kaiseki meals that we thoroughly enjoyed. However, I personally did not find the Tajima beef grilled on magnolia leaf very tasty—it might be because I'm accustomed to similar dishes from Gifu or Nagano prefectures. We also visited public baths outside, but Nishimuraya's bath was by far our favorite. We look forward to visiting again!

    Grand Reopening Success!

    It was our third visit in nine years. Since our last stay, there have been significant changes, such as the renovation of each room (including some rooms being expanded with beds and private baths) and the shift to a designated breakfast venue. All these changes seemed successful. This time, we stayed in the "Matsu" room, which has always had a spacious layout. The bathroom and washroom were modernized and clean, making for a comfortable stay. Dinner featured local ingredients like crab and Tajima beef, as before. We enjoyed an autumn kaiseki meal served in our room but noticed that more course options are now available. Additionally, guests can dine at the nearby Japanese restaurant "Sanpou" or at the French restaurant "Ricca" located within the sister Hotel Shogetsutei. Breakfast was served in "Senrei no Ma," a traditional grand hall renovated with wooden flooring. Guests could choose between Japanese or Western-style meals, with partitions set up every 2-4 seats for privacy. We opted for Western-style breakfast made with fresh ingredients and refined menu choices. These updates seem to cater not only to increasing international visitors but also provide comfort for domestic guests like us. According to the hostess who greeted us during dinner, further renovations are planned for several rooms in the future. The staff throughout the hotel provided attentive and precise service. Shuttle Service between JR station and luggage delivery arrangements were smooth as well. Additionally, we discovered “Un,” a stylish new space near the station offering a unique combination of café, souvenir shop, and bookstore under one roof. Our stay reflected thoughtful innovations across Nishimuraya's group properties—making us look forward to our next visit!

    Rainy Kinosaki has its own charm.

    An accommodation where you can feel the charm of a hot spring retreat even on a rainy day. Plan your outdoor bath tour over cold brew coffee. The result: victory for Yoshino-yu and Fukuno-yu. Local sake with the Nishimuraya label, crab, matsutake mushrooms, and dobin-mushi—all delicious and beautifully presented. The aroma of freshly cooked rice is so enticing that you can't help but have multiple servings. Next time, I want to bring my mother here. Thank you to the staff for taking care of us!

    It was a beautiful traditional Ryokan.

    A renovated Ryokan with a traditional atmosphere. The courtyard is meticulously maintained and exudes cleanliness. The lobby also has a pleasant ambiance. The staff seemed to be relatively young and appeared slightly nervous. The shower in the Room's bathtub was a bit hard to reach for cooling it down. It might be more considerate if there was an explanation beforehand about the timing of items like fish being served during breakfast.

    Early Autumn Retreat

    This year's intense heat took a toll on my body, and I was finally able to visit the much-anticipated Kinosaki Onsen for some rest and relaxation. On the way to the accommodation, I felt an unparalleled sense of happiness. Despite arriving early, I was warmly welcomed with a "Welcome back," and from the moment I stepped inside, I was moved by the soothing atmosphere as always. This time as well, I thoroughly enjoyed both the indoor facilities and outdoor baths along with autumn delicacies, which helped me recharge my energy. The garden glistening from the midnight rain remained as stunning as ever. Each visit leaves me refreshed and rejuvenated on my way home. My heartfelt thanks to all staff members.

    Mother's Birthday

    Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality. I was delighted by the heartfelt surprise for my birthday. I also enjoyed the comforting flavors of the dishes. Just a quick note to share a smile: The Room had a noticeable crab smell, which I assume is a lingering scent from winter as meals are served in-room. The bath at Hirata-kan was very hot, so I couldn't soak in it, which is why I deducted one star. Looking forward to visiting again!

    From the warm welcome to the heartfelt farewell, I was treated with exceptional care and enjoyed a truly comfortable stay throughout my time at the accommodation. Breakfast was served at the venue, where the vibrant energy of the young staff and delicious food made for an enjoyable start to each day. For dinner, I dined at a sister hotel, and not only was the shuttle service seamless, but also the meal—featuring an abundance of local ingredients—was arguably one of the best dinners I've had this year. The staff member who attended to us during dinner provided outstanding service that left a lasting impression. Although there were fewer opportunities to interact with staff compared to accommodations like Asaba due to not having in-room dining, this has become one of my favorite places I'd love to revisit. Lastly, I deeply appreciated how a male staff member kindly arranged lunch reservations at a nearby restaurant immediately upon our arrival—it truly touched my heart. Thank you so much for everything!

    The room, meals, and Onsen were truly wonderful. My elderly parents were also very satisfied. I was deeply moved when even the elderly staff member working in a corner of the garden bowed deeply to see us off through the car window on our way to the station.
