    It became a memorable place.

    The room was upgraded, and the view from the room was stunning. The onsen, in-room dining, and staff service were all highly satisfying. My partner proposed to me, making this accommodation a memorable place for us. We would love to visit again!

    Very clean and the rooms are well soundproofed. The food is exquisite, and at 8:00 PM during dinner, we enjoyed fireworks by the sea. Beppu Park is also very beautiful. The only downside is that there are no shops nearby. It would be better if there were more photos of the rooms available online.

    We highly recommend this place in Beppu.

    Since my previous stay was at Suginoi Hotel, I couldn't help but compare, but the service and hospitality here were absolutely outstanding, leaving me extremely satisfied. The meals were incredibly delicious, and above all, every staff member was kind and welcoming. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the handmade cakes and sweets by the patissier were impressive. There were plenty of welcome sweets as well as cakes for breakfast. Each had a gentle flavor that was truly delightful. The variety of drinks available was extensive, especially the non-alcoholic options which surprised me. From the survey provided, it’s clear that this accommodation puts great effort into ensuring guests are happy—it made me want to support them even more! If you're staying in Beppu, I highly recommend this place!

    Room odor and air conditioning...

    When we were shown to our room, we noticed an unpleasant odor and informed the staff. They promptly prepared an alternative room, which was commendable. However, the new room also had a smell, likely from leaking drainage pipes. Additionally, the heating in the living room was not functioning properly and it felt cold. These two issues could benefit from improvement. The meal at Kikusai-ka on the first day was outstanding. The menu only listed ingredients, making each dish a delightful surprise that exceeded expectations. On the second day, we dined at the Sky Dining on the 12th floor; however, there were fewer dishes available and it felt slightly disappointing. Breakfast featured a buffet with a wide variety of options suitable for those who enjoy eating a lot. The desserts were plentiful and enjoyable for women as well. That said, as expected with buffets over consecutive days, identical dishes are served both mornings—so some creativity is needed to avoid monotony. As for the Onsen experience—the main highlight—the large public bath and open-air bath were very spacious with excellent openness and comfort. The private Onsen in our room was also pleasant and allowed us to better appreciate its quality compared to the public baths. While Kikusai-ka's cuisine is exceptional and the Onsen's water quality is excellent, I feel that these positives are somewhat overshadowed by other shortcomings in facilities or services.

    The dessert buffet is excellent.

    This was our first stay as a couple, and for an all-inclusive at this price, it was exceptionally high-level. From the welcome lounge upon arrival to the locally sourced dinner, nighttime pudding, and handmade sweets at the breakfast buffet, we thoroughly enjoyed the food. There were many foreign staff members, but they were well-trained and always greeted us with smiles, making our stay very pleasant. It was definitely better than certain other resort chains. We would love to visit again with our family next time!

    Both dinner and breakfast were delicious.

    Located in the center of Beppu City, it may not offer the experience of strolling in a yukata to an onsen, but the large public bath within the accommodation is absolutely delightful. The meals are exceptional, with desserts crafted by a recommended patissier and each dish for breakfast and dinner carefully prepared and delicious. However, the number of seats at the breakfast venue is insufficient compared to the number of rooms, leading to a wait time of about 30 minutes during busy periods. We hope this can be improved.

    I stayed in a maison...

    I stayed in a maisonette-type suite. The room had a semi-open-air bath, so I didn't need to go to the public bath and could enjoy bathing at my preferred time, which was very convenient. However, the pathway to the semi-open-air bath involved stairs, which felt inconvenient. Additionally, it was concerning that the shower room was visible from the stairs. Moreover, there was a large dead insect under the room's light, which made it difficult for me to sleep well at night. The highly-rated cake mentioned in reviews did not meet my expectations and felt comparable to cakes from convenience stores. Although dinner was advertised as being served in a restaurant with a view of the night scenery, reflections of indoor lights on the glass made it hard to see outside clearly and instead highlighted indoor views more prominently. As for the meal itself, it was overall decently tasty but nothing extraordinary.

    The room and dinner were excellent. The private bath in the room was amazing, and the private dinner was also fantastic. The staff member who assisted us provided exceptional service. However, the breakfast buffet had a long line, with a 5-minute wait for rice and 10 minutes for side dishes, totaling about 20 minutes before we could eat!

    Stay here when visiting Beppu!

    This is my second stay because I had such a great experience last time. The room facilities are a bit old, but they are clean, and the excellent hospitality of the staff more than makes up for it. When I asked the doorman (or doorwoman?) for directions, their warm and hospitable response made me feel at ease. There were also families with elderly members staying here, but I think a thoughtful hotel like this one provides peace of mind. The welcome drink service was available, with tempting treats like canelés and snacks prepared—but since it was before dinner, I resisted (laughs). This time, we went out to eat Seki-saba mackerel for dinner because I really wanted to try it! However, honestly speaking, the meal we had at this accommodation during our previous stay was far better. And then there’s the breakfast buffet that I had been looking forward to! To be honest, this might have been an even bigger reason for my visit than Seki-saba (laughs). Everything is carefully prepared; there’s a wide variety of desserts too—and everything tastes amazing! It’s number one in my book. The Ryukyu-style dashi chazuke here is even better than what I've tried outside—highly recommended. The only downside is that there are so many delicious things to try but not enough room in my stomach (laughs). I'm already looking forward to next time!

    It was excellent.

    I stayed with my wife for one night with breakfast included. Everything was excellent, so I would like to share the highlights. - Although we arrived before check-in time, we were kindly offered light refreshments at the 12th-floor restaurant. The canelé was especially delightful, with a crispy exterior and moist interior—absolutely delicious and perfect. - The baths alternate between men and women daily, allowing us to enjoy both. The open-air bath in Kusunoki-yu was spacious and incredibly relaxing. Additionally, Kikuyu's cave-style bath had a unique charm and was wonderful. The changing rooms were spacious and convenient to use, with towels available at the entrance of the bathing area, so we could go empty-handed from our Room—we used it five times in total! It was fantastic. - Breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable; everything tasted great! We especially loved trying all the cakes from the dessert selection—thank you very much; they were amazing. - All staff members provided thoughtful service that left a positive impression—thank you for your hospitality! Also, the handmade guidebook in our Room conveyed a warm sense of welcome—it was excellent. Next time, we plan to stay with dinner included. Thank you for everything—it truly exceeded expectations!

    It became a wonderful memory.

    I had the pleasure of staying at this Ryokan during my trip to visit my son in Beppu. My impression is that it is a very wonderful Ryokan. Although it was high season and may not have felt particularly cost-effective, I had a highly satisfying stay. I use accommodations more than 20 times a year, and among various price ranges and locations, what I value most is how much the staff resonate with the concept of the Ryokan or Hotel they work for. During this stay, all staff members responded to our requests and questions not only based on their manuals but also with heartfelt answers and reactions essential in the service industry. Their high motivation and strong team spirit left me deeply impressed. Despite handling numerous guests, the meals were delicious with carefully crafted flavors. The head chef greeted us warmly, and seeing the dedication of those preparing meals was truly admirable. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, each prepared with great care and excellent taste. I also appreciated their use of ingredients and sake sourced from Kyushu—it added a special touch to our experience. If I have another opportunity to visit Beppu, I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much!

    Breakfast is excellent!

    The room was spacious, and the Onsen was absolutely satisfying. The attentive service from the staff was also excellent. Above all, the breakfast with unlimited sweets! While the regular dishes were diverse and delicious, the sweets were outstanding. I especially recommend the sweet potato tart. I wish I could have eaten more! I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Beppu.

    Hotel Shiragiku

    Impressed by the warm hospitality and service. No need to bring anything when heading to the large public bath as all amenities are provided there. The accommodation was filled with thoughtful services like alcohol, nighttime pudding, and more. Breakfast was well-prepared, leaving us completely satisfied. It’s a pity we only stayed for one night.

    Exceptional hospitality and delicious sweets!

    As travel enthusiasts, my spouse and I have stayed at various ryokans and hotels, but this accommodation truly stood out with its exceptional hospitality. All the staff warmly welcomed us upon arrival, greeted us whenever we passed by, and even the chef came out to greet all guests as they returned to their rooms after dinner. The welcome sweets were absolutely delicious! I wanted to try every type, but had to hold back since dinner was waiting—such a shame! They also had my favorite sparkling wine available, which was fantastic. The breakfast dessert buffet offered a wide variety of cakes that left me completely satisfied. The garden was beautiful, and the onsen provided an incredibly relaxing experience in every way!

    First Trip to Beppu

    Upon arrival, we spent time at the Welcome Lounge on the 12th floor. There was a wide variety of sweets and drinks, and we enjoyed a relaxing moment while admiring the view of Beppu city. The canelé was particularly delicious. Dinner was served in the same venue, where we dined while enjoying the night view of the city. The dishes were served one by one, which we appreciated. All dishes were well-seasoned, and we especially loved the Bungo beef and vegetables in umami broth. The meat was tender, and it paired perfectly with yuzu pepper. The Onsen had a silky texture that left our skin smooth and felt very pleasant. The open-air bath was also spacious. The room was clean and beautiful, with a large bed that provided excellent comfort for sleeping. A softer pillow option would have been even better. The staff were friendly, making our stay truly enjoyable.

    First-time use of Shirogiku

    We stayed here for our first family trip and had a wonderful experience. Starting with the welcome snacks, the delicious kaiseki cuisine, and the buffet breakfast, all the meals were incredibly tasty. This Ryokan is highly recommended. We ate so much at breakfast that we weren't hungry until dinner! The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, making it a memorable stay. Thank you very much!

    A wonderful Hotel where you can relax and unwind.

    This is my third stay at Hotel Shirochiku. There are many wonderful aspects of this accommodation, starting with the welcome drink upon arrival. We enjoyed beverages, including alcoholic options, and sweets while admiring the Beppu scenery from the top-floor restaurant. Dinner is served as a course meal, and even on my third visit, the menu had slight variations and was absolutely delicious. The greetings and service from the chef and hall staff were excellent. I believe they thoughtfully guide guests to ensure everyone can dine in areas with great views. Breakfast is a buffet with a wide variety of dishes and desserts that are both delicious and beautifully presented—so much so that it’s hard to try everything! For those who prioritize food quality, this place is perfect. The baths alternate between men’s and women’s use daily; personally, I prefer the side with the cave bath. The amenities are well-stocked, allowing for multiple relaxing visits to rejuvenate. While the building's exterior may not appear very new, the interior facilities are spacious, clean, and designed for relaxation. The reception staff provided excellent service as well. I look forward to staying here again for another peaceful retreat—thank you very much!

    The Grand Open-Air Bath is exceptional.

    The large open-air bath was amazing as it wasn’t crowded. The lukewarm water was just to my liking, and I could relax completely. The meals were delicious, and the desserts had both variety and high quality—worth visiting just for them. The bed was Simmons, which was decent. Overall, the place was well-cleaned and very tidy, which I appreciated. The 24-hour coffee, water, and ice cream available in the lobby were great touches. I wish the bath hours were a bit longer, but I understand cleaning is necessary. There was a jug of water in the room’s refrigerator—I would have preferred bottled water instead. It felt a bit difficult to make requests about the Room on-site; I would have liked to stay on the other side of the building instead. Some young staff members seemed inexperienced—they didn’t properly explain how to lock the door? Or maybe I missed it—but at least they should come over and explain directly when needed. I used their all-inclusive plan—it’s nice that drinks during meals are free; however, since I don’t drink alcohol much, it felt like it wasn’t worth its price for me personally.

    We stayed here for a family trip. The Facility and amenities were retro, but as it is a large Hotel, there were many guests and staff, creating a lively atmosphere. The staff were all cheerful and greeted us warmly, which made us feel good as well. We did not have dinner here, but the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The bath was an old-fashioned, truly large public bathhouse with a variety of shampoo options, which we found thoughtful. If we visit Beppu again, we would love to stay here. Thank you very much!

    It was a truly wonderful accommodation.

    When we arrived, the exterior looked old and didn’t raise much expectation, but the warm welcome was exceptional, and all the services afterward were completely satisfying. The Sky Lounge welcome service available until 5 PM was particularly impressive, offering wine, shochu, and a variety of desserts to enjoy with a stunning view. The cleanliness of the Room was impeccable, and both dinner and breakfast were elaborate and highly satisfying. We often stay at Hotels or Ryokans in this price range as a family, but this one stood out above the rest. There’s also 24-hour access to ice popsicles and soft drinks, which delighted our children. We would definitely love to visit again!

    You can enjoy.

    The cleaning, cooking, and hospitality were impeccable. If I had to point out an area for improvement, it would be the difficulty we faced with the maisonette-type Room since my companion was elderly and had mobility issues. I admit it was partly my fault for not mentioning this during booking as I didn’t expect a maisonette-type Room. (Perhaps I selected it myself online, but I would appreciate clearer differentiation in the display for maisonette types.)

There are several staircases within the Facility to reach the large public bath, which seemed a bit challenging for my 90-year-old parents. However, with handrails available, they were able to move smoothly. The staff's service was truly excellent.

    The final touch...

    In April, I was transferred to Kyushu and invited my parents from Nagoya for Father's Day. They were very satisfied with the food and bath, which made me happy. However, during the meal, while clearing the dishes, some soup was spilled accidentally, soaking the yukata. Although the immediate response was good, there were no words of acknowledgment or apology at checkout when we left, which was disappointing. A final word of consideration would have greatly improved our impression; sharing this feedback and addressing such situations in the future is recommended.

    A Ryokan with exceptionally delicious meals

    The overall experience during our stay was excellent. Although the building itself is old, necessary renovations have been made, and the interior was very clean. The onsen baths alternated between men and women in the evening and morning. The Kusunoki Bath was spacious and open, while the Kiku Bath featured several rock baths. The water temperature was just right for me, allowing me to relax and enjoy the onsen at a leisurely pace. Although I initially felt disappointed that meal options were fully booked at the time of reservation, leaving only Sky Dining available, it turned out to be an excellent choice with delicious dishes. The portion sizes were perfect for us as a couple in our 50s but might have been slightly insufficient for our son in his 20s. However, thanks to the Welcome Lounge service offered during check-in—featuring an abundance of sweets, drinks, and snacks—we were so full that even my son found dinner portions just right this time. Breakfast was served in the same venue but offered a completely different variety of dishes compared to dinner. Both Japanese and Western options looked so appetizing that it was hard to choose! Every meal—from Welcome Lounge treats to dinner and breakfast—was incredibly delicious. Even though I usually eat lightly, I couldn’t resist indulging every time (laughs). The size of this ryokan felt just right; moving between our room, onsen baths, and dining areas was convenient. If there’s one thing I’d suggest improving slightly—it would be enhancing the ambiance of Sky Dining’s interior design—but overall we had an exceptionally satisfying stay at this ryokan after quite some time. While not overly elaborate or extravagant (which we appreciated!), every dish tasted genuinely amazing. Our entire family left saying how much we’d love to return here again someday just for their food! A heartfelt thank you to all staff members for making this such a wonderful experience!

    Would love to visit again.

    This was my first trip to Beppu, and I stayed here. The location is convenient, within walking distance from the station. At first, I thought the meal portions might be small based on the menu, but they turned out to be just right. Every dish was delicious, and I was very satisfied. The afternoon tea sweets were also delightful, and I enjoyed them every day during my stay. The staff were kind and left a positive impression. However, it got a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, and although I wanted to use the heater, only cold air came out. Other than that, everything was great—I would love to stay here again!

    A charming Ryokan

    Beppu has recently seen many new Hotels and Ryokans, making it hard to decide where to stay. This time, I chose to stay at Shiragiku. The hospitality was truly fitting for a long-established Ryokan. The staff's service and attentiveness were impeccable. Although I only had breakfast during my stay, the chefs' hospitality was also outstanding. Despite being older in age, all of them served with warm smiles and excellent manners. It's rare to see such friendliness among people of this age group, but not a single person here lacked warmth or professionalism. I could feel the pride and effort of this long-standing Ryokan throughout my stay. I would love to visit again next time! Thank you very much!
