Beppu Onsen Shiragiku is filled with heartfelt hospitality.
Above all, we were soothed by the Onsen, the meals, and the heartfelt hospitality of your staff. Thank you very much.

As expected of a Hotel selected as one of Japan’s Top 100.
The building felt a bit dated, and the in-room air conditioning was not very effective, but the meals and service were excellent. The staff were consistently courteous and attentive, and the food was delicious, making our stay comfortable from start to finish. The well-maintained Japanese garden was also beautiful, and simply looking at it was soothing. This is a Hotel where the warm hospitality more than makes up for the aging Facility, and one we would gladly stay at again.

The hospitality and service were very pleasant.
All staff provided excellent hospitality, so I left for my trip feeling very happy. It’s rare to see everyone consistently greet guests, use polite language, and share the same warm smiles and expressions.

The all-inclusive Plan was great.
The Room was clean and well maintained. We chose the all-inclusive Plan, and we enjoyed the wide variety of drinks available. The large public bath was great on the men’s side—spacious and open. However, the women’s side had no indoor bath and consisted of an outdoor bath connected to a cave-style bath, which felt inconvenient for guests with limited mobility. It also lacked a sense of openness, which was disappointing. This may be due to the Ryokan being older, but I also noticed that the lighting on the lobby floor was always too dim. Brighter lighting would feel more pleasant and give a cleaner impression. Due to our group size, one Room ended up being used by just one person, but we were still charged for two people including both breakfast and dinner. That was very disappointing and hard to accept. I understand that charging for two people for the room rate might be unavoidable, but I would have liked at least the meal charges (breakfast and dinner) to be billed for one person since those meals were neither eaten nor provided in full for a second person.

Second time.
I visited in winter before and stayed again this summer. I expected the offerings (including lounge access) to be different due to the season, but it didn’t feel that different. What impressed me most the first time was how delicious the cakes were and the baguette, but the cut-to-slice baguette was no longer available. The cakes may have changed as well—perhaps there is a new pastry chef—but there is still a wide variety.

It was a comfortable Accommodation.
What surprised me first was that the welcome drink was served in a top-floor lounge with a great view. Along with coffee and tea, there were also beer, wine, and local specialties, plus snacks and cakes to choose from. The cookies were delicious and were sold at the shop, so I bought some as souvenirs. The Room was clean and relaxing. As you’d expect in Beppu, the hot spring water was excellent, and the bath area was spacious, so I didn’t feel bothered by other guests—overall it was wonderful. This is an Accommodation I’d like to stay at again when I visit Beppu.

A Relaxing Getaway
We stayed as a couple this time. The Facility was very clean and spotless, and we had a comfortable stay. During afternoon tea time, a variety of cakes and drinks were provided, which felt like an excellent value. Both dinner and breakfast featured many carefully selected items, allowing us to fully enjoy the quality of Beppu ingredients (the horse mackerel sashimi was especially outstanding). If we stay in Beppu again, we would love to return. Thank you very much to everyone at Shiragiku.

The meals were excellent.
Choosing where to stay in this famous Onsen area was difficult, but I’m glad we decided on this Accommodation. We were especially satisfied with the meal at Kikusai-ka. It might feel a bit light for younger guests, but for us seniors it was just the right amount. Many dishes were gently seasoned and suited my taste, so we were able to enjoy a truly blissful time. Kikusai-ka seems to be dinner only, but I couldn’t help imagining how wonderful it would be if breakfast were available as well. Also, we enjoyed the buffet in the actual 12th-floor lounge—it was delicious too. The service of having an omelet cooked right in front of you and served fresh is great. I was also surprised by how many sweets there were. Even though I thought, “Sweets in the morning?” I ended up enjoying them anyway (^^);

The dinner was excellent!
Every staff member’s smile was welcoming, and I truly felt their hospitality. The interior was kept spotless down to every detail. However, it was inconvenient that the Room did not have a kettle or teacups, which was disappointing. I also would have liked tissues provided in the washroom. The sweets were delicious—so much so that I found myself thinking, “Why so much this early in the morning?!” (laughs)… If you’re watching your blood sugar, you may want to refrain from staying. Dinner was very luxurious and delicious, and each dish had a memorable flavor.

Thank you very much! I was very satisfied.
The staff were wonderful, and their hospitality was excellent. Dinner was exceptional! The breakfast buffet also offered a wide variety of delicious options. Of course, the bath and hot water were great as well. I’d love to visit again.

We had a relaxing stay.
After checking in from the Room, we enjoyed plenty of all-inclusive drinks and sweets. Since it was raining a little, we couldn’t stay in the open-air bath without a roof. When the baths switched the next day, the men’s bath had a roof, so we were able to use the open-air bath as well. The towels were clean and there were more than enough, so we were satisfied. Dinner was a bit smaller since we had sweets, and it may not be enough for people who don’t like sweets. It was drizzling again the next day, so being able to borrow an umbrella was helpful. It’s a pleasant Hotel.

It is a good Hotel.
It is close to the station, and there is a bus stop named after the Hotel, so it is easy to find and very convenient. There is a welcome time in the evening, and it was fun—like enjoying café time with a great view. The bedroom and all other services were excellent.

The Ryokan’s hospitality is exceptional.
We stayed for 3 nights. My sister lives in Beppu, so it was our first visit in three years, and my husband and I came together. This was our first time staying at Shiragiku. We enjoyed the afternoon snack time from 2:30 pm (including alcohol), with cakes, cookies, and more prepared, and we spent an elegant time enjoying the view from the 12th floor. The large public bath was spacious, and we were able to relax and soak at ease. Breakfast was outstanding—we could enjoy Oita specialties, and the live kitchen was excellent. I was also surprised by the high quality of the desserts. They weren’t overly sweet, with a gentle flavor that suited my taste perfectly: roll cake, mousse, tarts, butter cake, chocolate cake, Mont Blanc, pudding, and more… There was also a great selection of fruit. This may be the first Hotel where I’ve had such an amazing breakfast. All of the staff were pleasant as well, and we truly felt Japanese hospitality. Choosing this Hotel for four days was absolutely the right decision. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

Despite the high price,
Maisonette-style Room with a semi-open-air Onsen bath Even by standards across The whole country, it was very expensive. Dinner was elaborate and professionally prepared, but the portions were small; I ended up eating the leftover rice balls right away. The in-Room bath had no place to change, and you could be seen naked from the stairs. There was only one towel per person, and it was thin—nothing like what you would expect from a high-end Ryokan. The towels at the large public bath were even thinner, more like simple hand towels. When you come to an Onsen, you bathe multiple times, so having poor-quality towels and only one is unacceptable. The razors and toothbrushes were also low quality—this is an era of 5-blade razors. Also, when I checked in and entered the Room, the bath water was scalding hot—too hot to use. It did not feel welcoming at all. Many guests may be happy with unlimited welcome drinks and snacks, but lounges like that are standard these days. Forcing both general guests and those who paid for an expensive premium Room to use the same lounge makes it crowded and unpleasant to use. The drink quality was poor as well. Breakfast in particular: I was told, “There are many group guests, so please come after 8:00,” so I went after 8:00—but then I was told there were five parties waiting. In the end I left without eating breakfast. If dinner could be a special menu on the 4th floor, why not do something similar for breakfast? There is a refrigerator in the Room but it is empty—no mineral water either—which is rare these days. If there is no proper lounge (and that space is not a modern lounge), then at least stock plenty of drinks in the refrigerator for Rooms with open-air baths. I would like the staff or manager to experience what today’s well-regarded Onsen Accommodations are like. Only the price feels “luxury”; otherwise it seems no better than a Hotel catering to group tours or outdated corporate trips from years ago. After traveling far by plane and using my holiday break to stay here, I am left with only a bad impression. That said, I do think the quality of dinner dishes was good overall."""

All the staff are very kind!
The staff were very kind, the food was delicious, and it’s an amazing Hotel! Also, since it was all-inclusive, I could enjoy many different kinds of alcohol and had a great time. The desserts, welcome drink, and breakfast were all delicious—I ended up eating too much! lol The handwritten sightseeing guide was wonderful as well. It became a great memory.

An Accommodation that’s a hit with women
My wife, our high school–aged daughter, and I stayed here. Right after we arrived, we were welcomed with a sweets buffet, which made my wife and daughter very happy. Dinner was the perfect amount—nothing left over—and everything was delicious. My wife and daughter also lined up for the limited-quantity pudding handed out from 9:00 p.m., and they kept going back to the sweets corner at breakfast as well. Overall, there seemed to be many female guests, and with such a strong focus on sweets, it feels like this Accommodation is aimed at women. The Onsen also had around 10 different kinds of shampoo and conditioner. I was a bit bothered that the Room air conditioner couldn’t be finely adjusted (only fan speed: high/medium/low), but other than that I had no complaints about the service or anything else. If you’re looking for anominator Accommodation that women will be satisfied with, this is highly recommended.

The pricing seems incorrect.
I was looking for an Accommodation with great food, and the Reviews were so good that I decided to stay at Shiragiku. First, the welcome sweets buffet everyone mentions in their Reviews! The variety and quality go far beyond what you’d expect for a “welcome” treat!! It’s on a much higher level than the sweets buffets at famous Hotels. Every fresh pastry and baked sweet was impressive. The kohakuto in particular was truly delicious—I’d love to see it sold as a souvenir. Please consider it! Dinner was a Japanese kaiseki course featuring seasonal ingredients and Oita specialties. This was also wonderful—enjoyable to the eyes and nose, and absolutely exquisite once you take a bite! It’s the kind of meal that would cost at least 15,000 yen in Tokyo. The milk pudding made with coffee dashi for dessert is something you probably can’t find anywhere else in The whole country. I really want to have it again! Of course breakfast is a buffet as well, plus free alcohol until 10 p.m., and coffee and tea available 24 hours. From the moment we arrived, the staff hospitality was outstanding, and I also loved the handmade sightseeing guide left in our Room. You can really feel how they’re trying to create excitement throughout the Hotel. The open-air bath is fantastic too, so if you’re staying in Beppu, I truly recommend it. I sometimes stay at Accommodations that cost more than twice as much as this one, but it’s been a long time since I’ve been this impressed by everything.

Beppu Shiragiku
I stayed here because I wanted to visit Beppu Onsen with my husband. We chose the all-inclusive Plan. The all-you-can-drink welcome drinks and sweets were very delicious, and we were very satisfied with dinner as well. The building seemed old, but it was well cleaned, and the Onsen was spacious so we could relax.

We stayed here for my husband’s birthday. The Room and the entire property were spotless, and the bath was even better than expected—we enjoyed a truly luxurious time. Each dish was delicious, and it’s a wonderful place that naturally makes you think, “I want to come back.” The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was also excellent, making our stay truly memorable.

A Two-Person Trip with My Sister
This time, I stayed here for my first trip with my older sister. Hoping to unwind from everyday fatigue and relax in the On sen while reminiscing, we chose this long-established Hotel with highly rated dining and prioritized “taking it easy” over sightseeing. It was absolutely the right choice. What stood out first was the in-Room check-in. A foreign staff member who has been in Japan for eight years assisted us; their language was beautifully polite, and their charming smile put us at ease from the very beginning. Because we had an all-inclusive Reservation, we took a break after check-in while enjoying sweets and drinks. The handmade sweets were surprisingly high quality—truly impressive—and it was the perfect start to our trip. There are two Onsen baths that alternate daily. At check-in we were told that “tomorrow’s is larger,” so that day we used the bath with a cave-like atmosphere. It was quiet and calming, and warmed us through. At dinner, we were even more impressed as soon as we entered the dining room. Each staff member’s greeting felt wonderful—not formal or routine, but genuinely heartfelt. This may have been the most memorable part of our stay. The meal featured more dishes than we could finish: careful presentation and consistently excellent flavors. Since it was Setsubun day, they even prepared small ehomaki rolls, and we could feel their thoughtfulness in honoring seasonal traditions. We ended up lingering longer than expected, and when I worried about making it in time for the limited-quantity 9 p.m. “Late-Night Pudding” and asked for advice, they quickly arranged for us to take items like ehomaki rolls and dessert back to our Room—so we made it in time to get the pudding as well. Needless to say, it tasted outstanding. The breakfast buffet the next morning was also delicious no matter what we chose, with a wide variety including salads, Japanese dishes, Western dishes, and sweets—it made us happy from early morning. This trip wasn’t just about facilities or food; above all, it was a journey where we were truly welcomed by people. Warm greetings, heartfelt cooking, and subtle attentiveness— it became an unforgettable stay that reminded us what true hospitality should be.

A midwinter Onsen trip was the best!
Although it is a long-established Ryokan, the Room, restaurant, and Onsen were all very clean, and the staff’s attentive hospitality made it a wonderful Accommodation. Because snow was forecast, we used public transportation, but it was within walking distance from Beppu Station and easy to find. Thank you for making our midwinter Onsen trip truly unforgettable!

The exterior looked ...
The exterior looked older than I had imagined from the photos at the time of my Reservation, so I was a little worried, but everything else exceeded my expectations. When we arrived near the entrance, a staff member came outside to welcome us, and all the other staff were also very courteous. Thanks to them, we had a very comfortable stay. The Room had been beautifully renovated, and the bed was extremely comfortable—I didn’t wake up with any back pain. Since I forgot to check the view and orientation in advance, and our Room was on a lower floor, I chose not to focus on the view. At the welcome lounge service on the restaurant floor with great views, we enjoyed high-quality baked sweets as well as cheese and wine. The view was wonderful too—I couldn’t believe this was available to all guests. Dinner was also excellent in both quality and portion size. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options including local dishes, bread, and desserts. I wanted to try more items such as curry as well, but I stopped at about 80% full because I didn’t want to miss dessert. The dessert that had received great Reviews truly tasted like it came from a professional patisserie—absolutely delicious. Since there are so many breakfast options already, I would personally be happy if cake were available during the welcome service instead. The Onsen temperature was perfect for me and warmed me up thoroughly. The changing area was clean as well, making it very pleasant overall. The post-bath ice cream and drink service was also much appreciated. The separate “Kiku-no-Ma” room overlooking the Japanese garden was another wonderful space. When I visit Beppu again, I would definitely like to stay here again.

I stayed here for my first trip to Beppu. The accommodation is conveniently located near the station, allowing easy access to Beppu Park for a pleasant walk, and it is in a quiet area where you can relax at the ryokan. The room was spacious and clean, and the bath had a traditional onsen design that provided a comfortable experience. There is also a welcome service before dinner, which adds to the enjoyment. The dinner was well-balanced with delicate flavors, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff member who served us during dinner was young but very polite and knowledgeable, showing their dedication and reflecting the excellent training of the accommodation's team. Their warm hospitality and high-quality service were truly impressive. Breakfast was also delicious. Thanks to all the staff at this accommodation, I had a peaceful and fulfilling one-night stay. I look forward to visiting again in the future! Thank you very much!

Accommodation you'd recommend to a friend
This is a conveniently located hotel just a few minutes' walk from Beppu Station. Upon arrival, the staff warmly welcomed us and guided us to the lounge, where we could relax and explore the Japanese garden while waiting for check-in. The room and yukata were slightly dated but spacious, clean, and well-equipped with amenities such as a shampoo bar. We enjoyed Beppu's onsen in the large open-air bath. The lounge was spacious and high-quality, offering a variety of light snacks and local sake. We booked a plan that included dinner and breakfast; both meals were exquisite with each dish being delicious. The highlight was not only their signature sweets but also the tender meat in the main hot pot dish. The white coffee pudding for dessert at dinner and tea pudding at night in the lounge left a lasting impression. Breakfast featured an array of Western pastries prepared by an in-house patissier, including several types of tarts and particularly delicious French toast. Local specialties like dango-jiru soup and jigoku-mushi dishes allowed us to enjoy both Beppu's flavors and delightful sweets from early morning. The staff provided attentive service throughout our stay, combining traditional ryokan hospitality with modern hotel comforts to create an exceptional accommodation experience.

The Ryokan has a luxurious atmosphere and is beautifully maintained. However, the drain in the private bath of the Room had a strong odor, which was unpleasant even in the bedroom. The private bath in the Room was excellent. I felt that the public bath could be cleaned more thoroughly as there was a strong smell of chlorine. Additionally, the toilet in the Room felt outdated and reminiscent of an old outdoor toilet, making it hard to feel comfortable.

Very clean and the rooms are well soundproofed. The food is exquisite, and at 8:00 PM during dinner, we enjoyed fireworks by the sea. Beppu Park is also very beautiful. The only downside is that there are no shops nearby. It would be better if there were more photos of the rooms available online.
