    No matter how many times you visit

    This is a relaxing Accommodation. The staff always welcome us warmly. There are also several international staff members, and I’m impressed by how well they speak Japanese. I hope they keep up the great work. The food is delicious, and no matter how many times I have it, I never get tired of it. This time, I tried the Western-style breakfast for the first time, and it was quite good. I will visit again. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful Japanese Ryokan, just as the Reviews said.

    First time staying here. I was satisfied with the food and the baths, but above all, every staff member—the female staff in charge of my Room, the dining staff, the front desk team, and the Shuttle Service staff—provided outstanding service, making my stay truly comfortable. I would like to return again in winter.

    It’s been a while since your last visit.

    With the times, more of the attendants and staff were from overseas. I wish I had been informed in advance about the view from the Room. At check-in in the Room, an attendant told me, “We’re sorry—the view is of a new Hotel and a crane,” and gave me incense. Since the Accommodation Fee was not cheap, I was surprised that this was only disclosed after the fact. The meals were very delicious. Although we dined at a traditional restaurant, it was quite noisy.

    We’re looking forward to staying at the new Miyagawa Annex.

    I have been staying at Honjin Hiranoya in Hida Takayama, alternating between Kachoan and the Annex. They are currently building “Miyagawa Bettei” across from Kachoan, and I’m looking forward to it. As always, I was impressed, grateful, and truly moved by the attentive and kind staff led by the proprietress.

    High-quality service, even for last-minute Reservation requests

    Thank you for kindly accommodating our last-minute Reservation. The location is excellent—right in the heart of Takayama Jinya and the old town streets—and the service, meals, and amenities were all outstanding. We truly appreciated the thoughtfully varied dinner featuring seafood, Hida beef, and more. The Onsen was very relaxing, and a draft beer by the riverside after bathing was perfect. There were many in-house products as well; my son loved the mandarin liqueur so much that we bought two bottles as souvenirs. The staff service at check-in and during dinner was superb, making this an Accommodation we were highly satisfied with. One point to mention is breakfast: overall, the Western-style options did not suit us. In particular, having dashimaki tamago with a Western breakfast was surprising; we felt that a freshly made omelet would have increased satisfaction even more. Overall, this was an Accommodation with exceptionally high satisfaction, and one we would like to visit again.

    The authentic gourmet kaiseki course was outstanding.

    As always, we were able to relax to the fullest with delicious food and drinks. This time, for the first time, we upgraded dinner to the Bishokukyushin Kaiseki course, and it was outstanding. Every dish was excellent—nothing missed—and we ended up enjoying even more drinks than usual. We also heard that a new group Hotel will open across from Kachouan toward the end of the year, and we’re looking forward to that as well. We’ll be back again to unwind and enjoy great food and drinks. Thank you very much for taking care of us again this time.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    Both the Accommodation and the Room were spotless, and the meals were exquisite—delightful to both the eye and the palate. Above all, we were truly impressed by the attentive care and thoughtful hospitality of the proprietress and all the staff. We would love to stay here again when we visit Takayama. This is an Accommodation we would gladly recommend to everyone.

    I stayed here during...

    I stayed here during a trip to Hida Takayama. The staff were cheerful and courteous, and we enjoyed chatting about recommended drinks. I sometimes stay at members-only Hotels, but the service here was outstanding even among them, and it truly felt like a Ryokan with genuine hospitality. The meals were delicious and beautifully presented as well. One small concern was that the guest room door was quite heavy, making it a bit difficult to open and close. If I visit Gifu again, this is an Accommodation I would definitely want to stay at.

    I stayed here 10 years ago and never forgot how wonderful it was, so I made a second Reservation. I’m completely satisfied with everything—the staff’s attentiveness and hospitality, the meals, and the Room. I will definitely stay again.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed to celebrate our son’s graduation and new job as he starts working in April, and also to mark our own “graduation” from parenting. From the warm welcome on arrival onward, the hospitality was outstanding in every way. At dinner, they prepared a wonderful message and cup for our son, and even gave us a photo frame with a picture they took—an irreplaceable memory for all of us. Every dish and drink was delicious! Everything was so wonderful that words can hardly describe it. We heard the new building is scheduled to open around the end of the year, and we would love to visit again.

    A Ryokan Where Your “I Wish It Were Like This” Comes True

    After my husband retired, we were finally able to stay at Kachouan. The attendants in charge of our Room and those at the dining area explained everything at a pace that was neither too fast nor too slow, making it easy to understand. The food was, of course, delicious, and the Room was clean, so we had a very pleasant stay. In particular, the furnishings displayed in the alcove in the Room, along the corridors, and near the elevator showed excellent taste, and we felt that every detail was well cared for. Kachouan is a Ryokan that fulfilled everything we had ever thought “I wish it were like this” when staying at other Ryokan or Hotels, and we were completely satisfied.

    The Multiple Night Stay was excellent.

    This visit also marked our 40th wedding anniversary, and we stayed for a Multiple Night Stay for the first time. It was wonderful to be able to relax. As always, we were very satisfied with the service, the food, and the Facility. Since it was a Multiple Night Stay, we had a sushi kaiseki dinner on the second night at the Hotel’s sushi restaurant, “Sushi Cho,” and it was absolutely delicious. The staff at Sushi Cho provided excellent service as well, and we truly enjoyed our drinks. We were very pleased overall. Thank you also for your thoughtful consideration in celebrating our 40th anniversary. We look forward to visiting again to enjoy your delicious cuisine and local Hida sake. Thank you very much.

    One disappointing issue ruined everything...

    My wife and I stayed for two nights. I stayed to celebrate my birthday, and I truly appreciated the various services you provided. However, I would like you to improve two points: it takes an hour to fill the jacuzzi in the Room, and the TV in the bathroom is not digital terrestrial. Both the food and the Onsen were wonderful, but on the second day my wife used “Relax Kura” in the annex. While she was washing her body, she told me that a male staff member came in—perhaps to manage the water temperature—and I still cannot calm my anger. I also went to use the bath in the annex, but when I returned to our Room my wife was lying on the bed. Thinking she might have felt unwell from bathing, I spoke to her—only to find she was crying. I was shocked. My wife said she did not want to make a big issue of it, so we endured it, but even as time passes my anger has not subsided. On her way back to our Room she met with the proprietress and explained what happened; she received an apology, but we are not satisfied. You provided various services at dinner on our second night as well—if that was meant as an apology, then we cannot treat this as a purely happy memory. Your website also states: “This is ‘Relax Kura,’ available only for adult women staying at our Accommodation.” We feel completely betrayed. Without this incident it would have been a good memory; instead it has become a painful one for my wife. She did not enter outside permitted bathing hours—yet this happened. It is simply too cruel for her. After that, we could no longer go to any large public Onsen baths; we could only use our Room’s bath (which is not an Onsen). Why did we go all the way to Takayama…? It hurts me deeply when I see my wife trying so hard to stay strong. The photo you took of us at dinner and presented in a frame also brings back painful memories for her, so we cannot even display it.

    The Room was cold.

    The Room was very nice, but it was disappointing that it wasn’t very warm when we arrived. It was chilly enough that we needed to keep our jackets on, and the Room never really warmed up afterward. We tried raising the air conditioner temperature partway through, but then the remote control barely responded... The food was very delicious.

    Friendly and warm, it becomes more comfortable with every moment.

    We stayed in a suite with our family at the end of the year. We had also stayed here two years ago and found it very comfortable, which led to a request from the family for a return visit. The bright and friendly yet non-intrusive service remains excellent—if not even better than before. The staff's thoughtful support, anticipating my mother’s limited mobility and needs, was truly helpful. The meals were absolutely satisfying. From the appetizers that exceeded expectations to an array of fresh seafood from Hokuriku—the simmered blackthroat seaperch was especially exquisite and unforgettable. The Hida beef was also delightful in both quality and quantity. The bath facilities were clean and easy to use, while the room amenities were well-considered—for example, blankets with built-in pillows for lounging around comfortably showed great attention to detail. Located right in the heart of town, it’s convenient for strolling around or relaxing in your room—a truly comfortable place where we enjoyed a wonderful time together. Once again, I must commend all staff members—from receptionists to room attendants and shop clerks—for their heartfelt service tailored to each guest's needs at this lovely accommodation. We’re already looking forward to visiting again next year!

    It was a wonderful time.

    Shuttle service by Cedric, a warm welcome with taiko drums, the staff's courteous and kind service, as well as the delicious cuisine and relaxing onsen—everything was truly satisfying. The meals were thoughtfully prepared for us seniors, both tasty and beautifully presented. We are deeply grateful for your hospitality.     First Couple's Trip After Retirement

    We enjoyed a relaxing 3-night, 4-day trip as a couple to Toyama and Takayama. From Toyama, we took the Takayama Line through the Jinzu River Gorge, and the breathtaking scenery left us in awe. At Takayama Station, we were thrilled by the warm welcome with a Century car. Since we arrived a bit early, we left our luggage and explored the town before check-in. We were surprised to see many European visitors, especially Italians. After checking in, we indulged in the rooftop large public bath and open-air Onsen at the main building. The quality of the Onsen was exceptional, leaving our skin incredibly smooth. As our Ryokan was located in town, we enjoyed dinner outside while soaking up the local atmosphere and had breakfast at the Ryokan the next morning—it was absolutely delicious!

    Highly satisfied.

    The staff were incredibly kind to our two children, remembering their names and interacting with them thoughtfully. We appreciated the detailed services and care that delighted the kids. For example, during dinner, they served water in ceramic cups with pictures that appeared when filled, and brought scissors to cut meat without us even asking. The children stayed entertained and happy, allowing the adults to relax comfortably. The meals were not only delicious but also beautifully presented—truly exceeding expectations for the price. The bath at Relaxation Kura was charming and atmospheric, though the washing area was slightly chilly. We would love to visit again for a more leisurely stay. Every staff member we encountered was exceptional, leaving us deeply moved by their hospitality. The Christmas decorations throughout added a festive touch of joy. With plenty of books available in both the lobby and Relaxation Kura, it’s also an ideal place for solo relaxation. The location is excellent for exploring the town on foot as well. This Ryokan is one we absolutely want to return to!

    Japanese Ryokan is truly about the "people."

    The woman who attended to our Room was truly wonderful. She served us tea and traditional Japanese sweets, guided us through the Room, and during both dinner and breakfast, she always had a warm smile and made our conversations enjoyable. From the doorman to the shop staff, every member of the staff (including foreign staff) greeted us with smiles. It made me realize that what makes a Japanese Ryokan special is its people. The bath in our Room was so comfortable that we spent most of our time there. The booklet for foreign guests in the Room was also interesting. This Ryokan is truly exceptional, with thoughtful attention to detail everywhere.

    Faithful to the basics of "what service should be," this accommodation offers consistently warm hospitality that makes you wonder how many staff members are dedicated to each guest. From the moment you check in, the hostess greets you while seated formally, and staff members are always present at elevator halls on every floor, addressing guests by name with polite greetings. The room, dining area, bath facilities, and other spaces are impeccably clean. Linens such as sheets and towels are also flawless. However, being located in Takayama city center means there is no rustic open-air bath surrounded by nature, and the bathing areas are not particularly spacious. Even so, guests can enjoy a variety of options including access to baths in an annex building as well as a separate bath exclusively for adult women. While the price is accordingly high, satisfaction levels are extremely high too—making it a place you'll want to revisit without hesitation. In our room (though this may not apply to all rooms), there was a 24-hour temperature-controlled cypress wood bathtub where we could relax while enjoying its fragrance and even watch TV at the same time.

    The perfect accommodation for a refreshing stay

    We are a couple in our 70s. We usually stay at resort or city hotels, so it had been about 30 years since we last stayed at a traditional Japanese Ryokan, which made us feel a bit nervous. However, upon entering the accommodation, we were warmly welcomed by the proprietress and staff, which immediately put us at ease. The check-in process was done in our room while enjoying matcha tea, with clear and detailed explanations from the staff that further reassured us. The room was calming and very relaxing. The private hinoki bath attached to the room was spacious with ample water flow, and placing an egg-shaped piece of hinoki wood into the tub allowed us to enjoy its fragrance. The dinner served in a private dining room featured beautifully arranged seasonal dishes on elegant plates that first delighted our eyes. The refined flavors that brought out the best of each ingredient made us smile naturally. We could also enjoy the aroma of wasabi and matsutake mushrooms, giving us a sense of autumn. With additional benefits as Diamond members, we were thoroughly satisfied. We savored tender Hida beef fillet and local ayu fish; by the time we finished our rice dish at the end of dinner, we were quite full and thought about taking a short break when one of the staff kindly offered to deliver dessert to our room later—a service unimaginable at hotels—which deeply impressed us. The location is excellent as it is just a short walk to historic streets or morning markets—very convenient indeed! This accommodation is perfect for relaxation. My wife was extremely pleased as well; we've decided without question to stay here again next year!

    Annual Summer Takayama

    We had a wonderful stay at Kachoan during our annual summer visit to Takayama. While we had previously stayed at Hirano-ya Annex, this was our first time staying at Kachoan. We arrived around noon and were grateful for the warm hospitality as our luggage was kindly stored for us. The staff also recommended a delicious local restaurant where we could enjoy Takayama ramen for lunch, which was very helpful. Although check-in around 3 PM seemed a bit busy, the staff provided courteous service throughout the process. The dinner we were looking forward to exceeded expectations with beautifully presented dishes in elegant tableware and perfectly balanced flavors that made every bite delightful. Additionally, the friendly smile and conversation from the staff member serving us made the experience even more enjoyable. Thank you very much!

    We look forward to this every year. This time, we stayed in the [Zai] Room. It was a beautiful room with a warm and bright atmosphere, blending Western and Japanese styles. The ikebana arrangements at Kachouan are truly soothing. The hospitality was wonderful, and of course, the cuisine was absolutely satisfying. We will visit again next year!

    Hida beef was delicious.

    We visited during a relatively quiet period before the summer holidays, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing stay. The meals served in the private dining room were delightful, especially the Hida beef filet steak we ordered as an option. The air conditioning was slightly too strong, so bringing an extra layer would have been a good idea.

    An Amazing Experience

    This was our first visit to Kachoan with my girlfriend. Although we had been to other Ryokans before, we were deeply impressed by the exceptional hospitality that exceeded the price. The nearby historic townscape was also enjoyable, making it a wonderful Ryokan. We look forward to visiting again next time.
