    Ocean-view Hotel

    We stayed in a newly renovated Hotel in a dog-friendly Room. The staff were very attentive, and with a pool, café, and restaurant on site, the overall atmosphere was excellent. Since we were traveling with our dog, we couldn’t enjoy the shared areas together, but as this is not a pet-only Hotel, I think that’s perfectly fine. For the dog-friendly Room, meals were served in-room and the quality was outstanding. If I had to mention one thing, I would have preferred the appetizer and main dishes to be served with better timing—once they cool down, they lose their appeal. It would also be helpful if the dog entrance had umbrellas for rainy days and a waste bin for dogs. Overall, the location is simply fantastic and makes us want to come back again and again. We’d love to return in autumn.

    We were completely satisfied with everything—location, Room, meals, and service. The location is outstanding, with a full view of the ocean. The newly renovated Room was spacious and extremely clean, and we enjoyed a luxurious half-day of relaxation indoors. At night, we could even watch fireworks in the direction of Atami from the balcony. The Hotel meals were also delicious. The plate for young children was prepared with gentle flavors, which felt very reassuring. Also, since I am pregnant, I asked to avoid raw foods; instead of simply cooking them through, they were served with perfectly judged heat that brought out the natural flavors of the ingredients. We were truly impressed by such thoughtful attention to detail. There is a beach about a 7-minute walk away, and we had a great time swimming in the sea with our child (we didn’t use it this time, but there is also a pool on the property). It was an Accommodation I can confidently recommend.

    A Little Detour Trip for Adults

    While looking for a resort-style Hotel around Izu, I came across this place. Despite being just steps from the station, the sea sparkles right in front of the Hotel. There’s also a beautiful pool, and it truly feels like another world. It’s the perfect place to unwind and forget the bustle of the city. I arrived before check-in, but they kindly accommodated me, and I was able to spend an elegant time sipping cocktails by the pool. Dinner was French cuisine at a sea-view restaurant—absolutely delicious. You can really feel the care put into each dish. After dinner, I relaxed in my Room with a glass of wine while listening to the sound of the waves, and time seemed to slow down. In the morning, I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast while looking out at the sunlit sea. The Hotel staff were all calm and kind, and I had a wonderful stay. This is a Hotel I’d like to visit regularly from now on. Thank you again!

    Yugawara’s Revived Jewel

    I visit here every summer, and this is a very special Hotel filled with precious memories for me. After a six-month renovation, I was truly impressed by how beautifully it has been transformed. The guest rooms have been completely refreshed (except for the bathroom area), becoming calm, modern spaces. The pool is slightly more compact than before, but it has been beautifully maintained and is scheduled to operate as a heated pool in autumn and winter. It looks like it will be a Facility that can be enjoyed year-round. In the large Onsen public bath, the view outside used to be blocked by frosted glass, but part of it has been replaced with clear glass, allowing guests to enjoy a relaxing soak while looking out at the beautiful landscaping. The newly opened café features exquisite sweets created by their pastry chef. I happened to meet them and received a thoughtful explanation of each item. From the watermelon shortcake onward, the seasonal and beautifully crafted desserts felt like works of art. And then there is the main dining room. While parts of the interior have been updated, the cuisine remains unchanged—you can still savor outstanding French dishes. For long-time fans, this is surely a very welcome change. Above all, what stayed with me most was the warm smiles and hospitality of all the staff. Their attentive care and heartfelt service once again exceeded my expectations. I sincerely thank everyone at the operating company for bringing this memory-filled Hotel back to life in such a wonderful way. With new charm added through this renewal, it is a Hotel I want to keep returning to for many years to come. I hope it will continue to be loved by many as one of Yugawara’s leading Hotels.

    Compared to before the renovation a year ago

    I had high expectations, but a few things were disappointing. - The pool is smaller and shallower. Is this to reduce maintenance costs or for child safety? - Alcohol has disappeared from the vending machines. When I mentioned it used to be available, I was only told it isn’t anymore. Why? - The layout and setup of the beds and sofa in the room seem to have changed, while other Facility remain the same. - Why was the mist shower in the bath removed? Disappointing. - Even when I asked before my visit what had changed, it didn’t come across—perhaps because the staff didn’t know how things were before. It may be necessary to standardize this information and have a proper way to communicate it. The meals were even more delicious than before. Thank you to the chef!

    It was my first time in a while to truly relax and enjoy a fulfilling stay!

    I had been eagerly looking forward to the renewal! For over 35 years, my children and I stayed at Hotel Schenega as they grew up. This time, after the renewal, we were very satisfied—the pool and meals were just as wonderful as before. We stayed in a Room on the 4th floor with my grandchild. The service was excellent, and we were extremely pleased. From now on, I’m sure we’ll continue staying here as my grandchild grows up!

    It was worth the wait!

    I had been eagerly awaiting the completion of the renovations, and I was truly relieved to stay here for the first time since reopening. In particular, the meals were as delicious as ever—outstanding. I’m already looking forward to my next stay. However, it would have been even better if an open-air bath had been added; that was my only disappointment.

    Stay After Reblinding

    Since my first visit in 2013, I have looked forward to coming every summer. I have enjoyed staying here through its history—from the former “Hotel La Chenega,” to “La Classe de Chenega,” and now “HOTEL SWAY yugawara.” With this rebranding, the front desk area and the Room finishes felt upgraded, making the space even more comfortable. The pool is smaller than before, but converting it to a heated pool is a wonderful improvement that expands when it can be enjoyed. On the other hand, as someone who has long visited for “quietness and relaxation,” there was one concern. For the first time, I shared the facilities with families with children; at times there was loud shouting in the pool, and used float rings were left on the poolside, which was disappointing. I understand that your target guests and concept may be changing, but I would appreciate operational measures—such as clear advance reminders about pool etiquette—so that all guests can enjoy their stay comfortably. I hope to continue visiting this place as an important destination for me. *The shower water pressure in the Room is weak; please consider improving it.*

    It was a very good Hotel.

    I stayed during the New Year holidays. It was a lovely hotel with a great atmosphere. I heard it will be temporarily closed for renovations. I look forward to visiting again once it's renewed.

    The food was excellent.

    The French cuisine course and wine pairing were satisfying. The view from the room was excellent. I would consider staying again. 【Disappointing Points】 The operation of the safe in the room was complicated, and even after following the instructions, it seemed unstable and I feared I might not be able to retrieve my belongings, so I ended up not using it. When tissues ran out, I couldn't find any replacements.

    Probably not worth a second visit...

    I previously used the spa here and loved it, so I decided to stay for the first time this time. The spa was amazing again! The Esalen massage is truly incredible! I was deeply impressed. As for the accommodation... The view is fantastic. I was able to see plenty of Geminid meteors, which was satisfying. However, the facility is quite outdated. Cleaning is done thoroughly. The bath has no windows, so there’s no view to enjoy. In the room, there’s only drip coffee available. There isn’t even facial cleanser in the public bath area. As for meals—do they really have a chef?? That’s how it felt. Dinner resembled a countryside French restaurant, and breakfast was at a business hotel level. Front desk service also felt like that of a business hotel—or perhaps recent business hotels are better? I always make reservations through IKYU.com and visit various places, but this has been my worst experience yet. While it was more affordable than where I usually go and I had some expectations adjusted accordingly, it still felt like poor value for money overall—it was just terrible! To top it off, after returning home, I realized they seemed to have forgotten about my Diamond Member benefits... I don’t think I'll ever return again!

    I had a relaxing stay.

    I stayed for one night to celebrate my mother's birthday. The front desk offered complimentary coffee and snacks. The room's balcony had an ocean view with a visible horizon, providing a stunning scenery (even though the weather wasn't great, it was still amazing). Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and very satisfying. The filet steak at dinner and the omelet at breakfast were so tender that they left a lasting impression. The Onsen included one bath, a steam sauna, and a regular sauna. There were about three or four washing stations available. It’s not very spacious, and the usage alternates between men and women depending on the time slot—some slots include saunas while others do not—so I recommend checking the schedule if you want to use the sauna. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay; however, there were some minor concerns: first, the room felt overly dry which was slightly uncomfortable. It also felt warm as if heating was on (though it wasn’t), making it mysteriously warm yet very dry inside. I managed by using the humidifier in the room or opening windows occasionally to adjust it somewhat. Additionally, the in-room loungewear seemed quite small in size—about an S size—and even at 163cm tall myself, it felt too short for me to wear comfortably; some people might find it unsuitable depending on their body type. Despite these small issues mentioned above towards the end of this review, everything else including atmosphere, food quality, and staff hospitality was excellent! Since I heard there will be renovations soon—I’d love to visit again someday!

    Resort Vibes

    Staying with a female friend. The room had a great view and was very comfortable, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing chat. The dinner was also delicious and satisfying. However, the bathwater was lukewarm, and we were unsure how to add hot water, which caused some inconvenience.

    A Truly Disappointing Stay

    The photos on IKYU.com were beautiful, but the entrance gave off an abandoned vibe, and the service was below third-rate. Even setting aside the absence of bell staff, the front desk staff—who represent the face of the Hotel—was a middle-aged man with a sullen expression reminiscent of a caretaker. It truly dampened my spirits. Thinking about it still leaves me speechless with anger. The quality of breakfast was predictably poor; even dried horse mackerel from a nearby grocery store tastes several times better. The coffee? Just black water, nothing more. This was one of the worst Accommodations I’ve ever experienced in my life. As an IKYU fan, I am deeply disappointed.

    A wonderful Hotel you'll want to share, even if you'd rather keep it a secret.

    Convenient access from the station, a serene atmosphere at the Hotel, and the tranquil seaside environment of Yugawara were complemented by an unexpectedly delicious French course meal, making for a truly wonderful experience. The Art Deco-era paintings and museum-like exhibits are also impressive. With new ownership, renovation work is set to begin after the New Year, so now is the time to enjoy this classic ambiance! The thoughtful and courteous care from all Hotel staff was heartwarming and greatly appreciated. Thank you for a fantastic stay!

    We warmly welcome you with a smile.

    I have stayed at this Hotel several times. This time, I particularly felt that the reception staff lacked a welcoming attitude. Even upon departure, there was no "Thank you for staying with us. We look forward to seeing you again!"—just "The Hot Spring Tax is 300 yen." While I understand this might be their personality, it is still a job. If the reception duties are overwhelming, perhaps hiring an additional friendly greeter would help. The view from the Room is excellent, and I love this Hotel, but the hospitality was disappointing. Also, I think the quality of breakfast bread should be reconsidered (this time we chose a breakfast-only Plan). While the building's age has its charm, repairing worn-out sofas would improve things significantly. I hesitated to write this Review but decided to do so because Reviews often help me choose Hotels. With my love for this Hotel in mind, I hope it improves even more! The view overlooking the ocean is absolutely stunning!

    Good Hotel

    It was a satisfying and good Hotel. However, the Room safe did not work properly despite several attempts, so I gave up using it. It was probably broken. Due to this, the Facility rating is 4. Everything else deserves a rating of 5 and was excellent.

    This was my second stay this summer. The pool, where you can quietly read a book or take a nap on the poolside deck chairs, was much more enjoyable this time as there were no overly noisy guests like the couple splashing water during my previous visit. Everyone spent their time peacefully and leisurely. The Onsen is not very large but offers a serene experience with natural light streaming into the bathhouse, and I could enjoy it in complete privacy. The cuisine, prepared by what I heard is a young chef, showcased meticulous craftsmanship with beautifully presented dishes inspired by autumn themes. The dessert, in particular, expressed the richness of autumn with both its appearance and taste being exceptional. A small maple leaf-shaped confection added an elegant touch to this stunning sweet treat. This Hotel is perfect for those who wish to enjoy French cuisine while gazing at the blue sea and spending their time quietly and peacefully.

    The food was excellent.

    I stayed at this Hotel, which I had been curious about for a while, on my own this time. On the way, I wanted to stop by a convenience store, so I walked to the Hotel. It was a hot day in September, and by the time I arrived, I was drenched in sweat. The man at check-in simply conveyed the minimum necessary information without saying "Welcome" or "You must be tired," which surprised me as it wasn't what I expected from customer service. However, both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. Dinner especially stood out with each dish being carefully explained, making it an enjoyable experience until the end—no wonder it has good Reviews! The view from my Room was great as well, allowing me to relax comfortably. That said, the smaller public bath was much tinier than expected; since I was alone it wasn’t an issue for me personally but sharing that small tub with others might be uncomfortable. While I'm sure there are various reasons behind this decision, having Shuttle Service available—even if infrequent—would be nice. Lastly, the woman at check-out had a very pleasant demeanor. Overall though satisfied with my stay here & would consider returning again when given another opportunity!

    I had a very relaxin...

    I had a very relaxing stay. The retro atmosphere with a touch of history was charming. It wasn’t overly luxurious, but it was clean and offered a comforting sense of coziness. I also enjoyed watching the Yugawara fireworks. The appetizers by the poolside and breakfast were delicious. Although I heard there are renovation plans, I hope the charm remains unchanged as it’s such a comfortable Hotel. I would love to stay again!

    A bit disappointing

    This is our favorite Hotel that we visit twice a year. The highlight of our stay is always the meals, and my husband also looks forward to the delicious dishes every time. However, this summer's menu featured ayu (sweetfish). Instead of the delicious seafood from Yugawara, it was river fish. While we understand the effort put into presenting the plate to resemble a river, we did not find it tasty and feel this menu might divide opinions. The meat dish was similar to what we had last time as well. A bit more creativity would be appreciated.

    I had a relaxing time.

    The Hotel attracts a calm clientele, offering a boutique vacation atmosphere reminiscent of overseas stays. Enjoying beer by the pool and taking a refreshing swim when it gets hot made for a relaxing experience. I will visit again!

    New Development

    I usually end up going to Atami by train, but I discovered a very affordable Plan on sale and decided to visit Manazuru for the first time. The station was small and quaint, and there were no taxis in sight upon arrival. So, I stopped by Aoki Shoten GLIDE for coffee. When I tried using a ride-hailing app, it initially showed no cars available, which made me nervous. However, perhaps due to timing, I quickly managed to catch a taxi and felt relieved. From the front desk area, you could see the pool where relaxed guests were sunbathing—it almost felt like being in the Mediterranean! The building has an aged charm, but the Room offered stunning views and was impeccably clean. The Onsen was also excellent. Dinner was a leisurely two-hour experience paired with wine during twilight time. The course menu featured seasonal ingredients and local produce; I'm looking forward to visiting again during another season! It was too hot to approach Yoshihama Beach this time around, but there’s also a craft beer taproom nearby that added to the enjoyable experience!

    Feels like being in Okinawa.

    If you stay within the Hotel, the view from the Room and the atmosphere by the poolside feel just like being in Okinawa, making it a very reasonable and rewarding experience. The meals and desserts by the poolside were also delicious, and overall, it was a Hotel with excellent cost performance. However, one downside was that for breakfast salad, my wife's plate had 20 beans while mine only had 2 beans—such lack of attention to detail was disappointing.

    Early check-in available Reserved seating at the pool 1 drink service & appetizers included Breakfast included in the Summer Trip Plan was excellent. The pool float rental service was great, but unfortunately, one had a hole in it. It would be appreciated if more could be provided.

    Beachfront Resort

    During the summer vacation, I found a very affordable Plan for a Hotel with a pool and close to the beach. As rumored, both the location and cuisine were excellent, allowing me to enjoy three days of an overseas resort-like experience. The atmosphere was calm with many adult guests, making the interior quiet and relaxing. While not a new Facility, it had a classic charm and was well-maintained. The flowers and plants around the pool were also beautiful. During my Multiple Night Stay, they changed the course meal menu for variety, and breakfast offered both Japanese and Western options to keep things interesting. During the day, I explored cafes and dining spots in Manazuru for an unforgettable experience.

    Following last year

    This was our second stay following last year. This time, we enjoyed the pool before check-in, which we didn't use last year. Thankfully, the typhoon had no impact, and we were able to relax by the pool, enjoy the bath after check-in, and take in the view from our room at a leisurely pace. The meals were delicious as always, accompanied by attentive explanations. We look forward to staying again next year. Thank you very much!
