    This was my second s...

    This was my second stay, after visiting once 10 years ago. It’s a small, cozy Accommodation, and I think it’s the best in Matsushima. The meals were outstanding, and I was very satisfied. If I had one request, I would appreciate it if the cancellation fee started about 3 days in advance rather than 7 days. Also, the garden view from the dining area—along with the trees and potted plants—could be a bit more neatly maintained to improve the scenery. That said, I think this is a Ryokan I would happily recommend to friends.

    The service was excellent, just as the reviews said.

    All of the dishes were delicious. On previous stays in Matsushima, dinner was mainly buffet-style, but I felt this kaiseki meal was the best. The staff were attentive while keeping a comfortable distance, making for a very pleasant stay. Since the shop does not sell drinks and beverages from the post-bath lounge cannot be brought into your Room, we recommend purchasing drinks in advance and bringing them with you.

    I had a very relaxing stay.

    It was raining when we arrived by car and no one was in the parking lot, but as soon as we arrived a staff member came out and held an umbrella for us. Check-in was done in our Room, so we didn’t have to wait at the front desk and could move smoothly. The staff member in charge of our Room was very attentive, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful care during meals and throughout our stay. The food was also delicious, and we were able to relax comfortably. Although the bath is not an Onsen, it was fun to be able to float rose petals ourselves, and it was nice that drinks were provided in the changing room. If I could mention one thing, I thought it would be even better if there were a designated space in the changing room for drinking beverages. If someone is drying their hair, you might hesitate to sit down there. It rained on both days outside, but we were able to spend a relaxing time inside the Accommodation. Thank you very much.

    Thank you for taking...

    Thank you for taking care of us for two nights and three days. I have stayed in many places around Japan, but this is the first time I’ve written a Review. It was a wonderful stay, and although I didn’t have time to properly express my thanks in person, I’d like to do so here. Work has been very busy lately, and this time I came hoping to “just relax,” and this Accommodation was exactly what I was looking for. From our Room we could look out over the sea at Matsushima, and without having to leave the Accommodation much at all, we were able to spend slow, luxurious time simply gazing at the ocean. The cheerful and courteous service from the staff in charge of our Room left a strong impression on me, and thanks to them we felt comfortable throughout our stay. At the dining venue as well, they casually checked in with us—“Are you cold?”—and even someone like me who gets cold easily was able to relax comfortably. The tea sweets provided were delicious, and the bath was extremely soothing. After bathing, it’s also a fond memory that I could unwind by reading while enjoying cold tea at “Salon Kura.” Every meal was truly delicious. In particular, the anago (conger eel) takikomi rice really stayed with me. We were told that any leftovers could be made into rice balls, but it was so easy to eat that we kept reaching for more with our chopsticks and finished it all. My partner seems especially impressed by the Sendai Kuroge Wagyu steak. Being able to grill sasa-kamaboko at breakfast also made me happy—it felt uniquely Miyagi. Even when we were leaving, you prepared sightseeing maps and gourmet information for us as well, and we felt your warm thoughtfulness right until the end. It was a truly lovely Accommodation where you can take your time enjoying both Matsushima’s scenery and how comfortable everything feels on-site. It ended up being a stay that refreshed both body and mind. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much for everything during our stay.

    Anniversary

    We visited for the first time to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. We’ve traveled to many places together, but Shoan felt like an especially memorable Accommodation. With the quiet scenery, unobtrusive and thoughtful hospitality, and delicious food, it became a truly wonderful anniversary. It seemed that many of the staff were young, and their sincerity came through clearly. I sincerely hope you will continue to be loved by many guests and enjoy lasting prosperity.

    The perfect Accommodation for exceptional hospitality in every occasion

    Through IKYU.com, my family and I have stayed at various Accommodations across the whole country. Nine years ago, an acquaintance recommended this wonderful Accommodation, and we visited then. This time, we returned with our family for the first time in exactly nine years. When it comes to in-house Facilities—especially for women—there are many details that matter, and even the large public bath impressed us: the showers and hair dryers were ReFa products, and we truly felt the thoughtful attention to detail. At many Accommodations I often find myself questioning aspects of the bathing experience, but here it was outstanding. My body and hair felt amazing afterward. It’s rare to find an Accommodation that uses ReFa products! What impressed us most at this Accommodation was the exceptional attentiveness of the staff during meals. Perhaps they noticed that my husband is left-handed; at breakfast a staff member casually said, “We’ve changed where we place your chopsticks,” and indeed they had positioned them where they were easier for a left-handed person to pick up. This is something even top-tier Hotels rarely manage with such awareness and care. As this trip combined a school admission celebration and our wedding anniversary, thank you very much for preparing celebratory sake and sekihan (red bean rice). Everything was perfectly taken care of, and we were truly moved.

    Excellent service.

    The staff’s clear explanations and warm hospitality in kimono blended beautifully with the traditional Japanese Ryokan atmosphere. The Room felt a little older than in the photos, but it was comfortable. Overall, the food was delicious and there was a good variety of dishes, but it was a bit disappointing that the fatty tuna sashimi was still partially frozen. I know it must be very challenging to continue providing high-quality service these days, but this is a wonderful Ryokan with beautiful views, and I hope you keep up the great work.

    You can relax and unwind.

    This was my 10th stay. I have been coming here since before the Great Earthquake, and the meals have never failed to meet my expectations. This time, I was told it might be a bit noisy because a group was staying and there would be many children, but it wasn’t like that at all—I was able to relax in peace as usual. It’s about 10–15 minutes by taxi from Matsushima-Kaigan Station, and the view of Matsushima Bay right in front of you—and its tranquility—is wonderful. I took a walk to the cape in the evening, and just as the sun was setting, a “sun road,” like a moon road, reflected beautifully on the sea.

    A highly satisfying accommodation!

    This Accommodation was understated, polished, and pleasantly serene throughout, and I think you’ll be highly satisfied. Perhaps because it was a weekday, I didn’t run into any other guests and was able to enjoy quiet time in my Room. With checkout at 12:00, I could take the morning at a very relaxed pace on departure day. The interior reflects the owner’s wide-ranging interests across both Japanese and Western styles, creating an atmosphere unlike other Accommodations. I love Ryokan breakfasts, and I highly recommend trying the breakfast at Shoan at least once.

    Relaxing and completely satisfying.

    Accommodation filled with the finest hospitality

    From the moment we arrived at the parking lot to the time we departed, we felt the warm hospitality of the staff. Even as we drove away, a staff member working in the garden smiled and bowed to us. The room was comfortable, with a beautiful and serene view of the sea, birdsong, and a cozy bed that made our stay very pleasant. This is an accommodation where adults can relax and unwind. The meals—both dinner and breakfast—were incredibly delicious, served on beautiful tableware. The attentive staff added to an enjoyable dining experience. This was our first stay in Miyagi Prefecture, but it’s an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    A great accommodation.

    Due to the busy days of moving, I stayed for just one night, but the perfect service at Shoan gave me energy. Once again, it started with the manager's warm "Welcome back," and my Room was attended by the same staff member as last time, whose lovely smile provided a sense of comfort. The meals were seasonal and delicious. I enjoyed additional dishes like beef tongue and tempura eel, making it a delightful dining experience. For breakfast, I chose Western-style for a change; the three types of bread were particularly memorable and tasty. The staff attending during breakfast was very polite and attentive, making for a pleasant start to my day. Thank you very much!

    The meals are delicious, but...

    This accommodation is known for its delicious meals, and we stayed here looking forward to enjoying the "meals." Unlike modern accommodations, it is rare to have a dedicated "room attendant" who guides you to your room, explains the room, escorts you to the dinner venue, and serves the meals, providing exceptional hospitality. The attendant was young but very professional, and their calm and polite demeanor made them seem older until we learned their age during our conversation. As for the meals, they were indeed delicious, living up to the reputation of "delicious meals." However, perhaps due to the many additional dishes, the portions were quite large, and we couldn't finish everything, which made us feel sorry for the chefs. (The final rice was made into "onigiri" for a late-night snack, which we enjoyed in the room.) The accommodation is very quiet, partly because the number of guests is limited. There is hardly any chance to encounter other guests, providing a high level of privacy, which makes it a great place to stay. Although the bath is not an onsen, there is a large public bath and an open-air bath. The limited interaction with other guests allowed us to indulge in a luxurious atmosphere, which was very enjoyable.

    I had a relaxing time.

    I chose this accommodation to escape the daily hustle and relax, and it was the perfect choice. Usually, I arrive at accommodations late at night during trips, but this time I checked in at 3:00 PM. I was shown to a room on the second floor, and when I opened the shoji screen, the stunning view of Matsushima unfolded before me. With a bed right next to me, I immediately lay down and enjoyed the scenery. As evening approached, the view gradually changed into something even more picturesque. For dinner, I ordered a sashimi platter which came in an unexpectedly large portion; however, everything was fresh and incredibly delicious. The service was excellent as well, allowing me to fully relax during my stay.

    Exceptionally quiet and relaxing!

    I love this ryokan. I have been staying here about once a year since before the great earthquake. This time, the seafood dinner was absolutely delicious. My wife was also very satisfied. The day after our stay, we were able to watch the Blue Impulse flight near the Matsushima sightseeing boat terminal—it was amazing! I will visit again.

    A cozy accommodation.

    It was great. The room was spacious and made me feel relaxed. The staff were attentive, making the stay comfortable. In particular, the woman who assisted during check-in left a good impression. As this accommodation was chosen as the final stop of my Tohoku trip, taking time to relax here turned out to be the right decision. It’s an accommodation I would like to visit again.

    Experience the tranquility of Matsushima.

    I stayed at the accommodation with my 85-year-old mother and myself, who just turned 60. The view of Matsushima from the room is a serene beach that soothes daily fatigue. You can forget the passage of time for a while and enjoy a wonderful moment. The dinner had a variety of dishes, all flavorful and satisfying. When you have time, staying near Matsushima is also a great idea. I will visit again!

    Quiet Time

    I stayed at a Japanese Ryokan for the first time in a while. The view of Matsushima Bay from the room was like a painting, and it was so quiet that I could truly relax.     The warm hospitality, including the welcome, guidance to the room, and meal service, was excellent. The small decorative items throughout the accommodation created a pleasant atmosphere beyond just the room. The private use of the bath was also a highlight. Although it was mostly cloudy or rainy during our stay, the view and scenery from the room were stunning! Dinner was served in a private and serene space, which made it even more enjoyable as it was incredibly delicious—this greatly enhanced our satisfaction with the accommodation. We also appreciated being provided with rice balls made from leftover seasoned rice for a late-night snack—a thoughtful touch. Breakfast was served in a restaurant with an ocean view; seating arrangements ensured privacy and allowed us to enjoy our meal peacefully. The breakfast itself was high-quality and delicious as well. Overall, this is an exceptionally satisfying and relaxing accommodation for adults seeking tranquility. We hope to visit again someday to enjoy clear weather views!

    I used this service for my father's birthday.

    Located just outside Matsushima, the journey to the destination was exciting. The art pieces subtly placed throughout were tasteful, the view of Matsushima from the room was stunning, and the rose bath in the open-air Onsen made for an elegant experience. The meals were all carefully prepared and delicious, though there was so much sashimi that we couldn’t finish it all, which was a bit unfortunate. The staff member who helped celebrate my father’s special occasion did a wonderful job and made him very happy. The bath and lounge had a charming atmosphere reminiscent of an aristocratic Western-style mansion—absolutely lovely. With checkout at 12 PM, we were able to enjoy a relaxing morning soaking in the Onsen and spent quality time with family in complete comfort. We look forward to visiting again!     It was excellent.

    We stayed for a multiple night stay with my one-year-old daughter and husband. The most impressive part was the meals. We had dinner and breakfast twice each, and the menu was changed every time, making each meal delicious and delightful. The beautifully presented dishes were exciting even before eating them. From appetizers to desserts, everything was absolutely wonderful and tasty. Since we have a baby, we initially gave up on using the large public bath, but on the second night, we noticed that there were bathing chairs and changing spaces prepared for children (apologies for noticing late). Although my daughter is still in diapers so we only used the shower, she enjoyed her first experience in a big bath very much. All of the staff members were always smiling warmly, providing such pleasant hospitality that I felt truly glad to have chosen this accommodation. It’s an accommodation that made me genuinely want to visit again! As it’s not easy for us to travel often, it may take some time before our next visit; however, we will definitely come back as a family again someday. Thanks to everyone here, this trip became one that deepened our family bond even more. Thank you so much!
