    We stayed with two Pomeranians.

I’ve stayed at several pet-friendly hotels before, but this one was the best. The in-room dining was especially comfortable because the main Room and dining area are separated, so we didn’t have to rush to tidy up, and food odors didn’t linger in the Room. Since it comes with a private garden, our dogs were happy to go outside. The pet amenities were so well stocked that we never felt inconvenienced. The open-air Onsen bath in the Room had excellent water quality, and our dog and family took turns enjoying it many times. Dinner was delicious across the board—so lavish that light eaters might not be able to finish it all. For drinks at dinner, we were told we needed to go back and forth to the second-floor lounge, which was a bit inconvenient during the meal, but it’s all-you-can-drink. Draft beer was included too, which was fantastic. Thank you very much!

    The Onsen is amazing.

The Onsen was spacious, and the open-air bath was also very relaxing.

A Long-Awaited Overnight Stay with Your Beloved Dog

After several trips without our dog and many days spent at home alone, we finally stayed together again—at Toraume, a truly dog-first Accommodation. We were welcomed with a welcome board featuring an illustration of our dog’s breed and our dog’s name—such a thoughtful touch that instantly won us over. On the second floor, there is an open and airy dog run & lounge. It was well prepared for the heat, and both dogs and owners were provided with drinks (including alcohol) and snacks, so we could relax at ease. A staff member even took photos of our dog for Instagram, and their warm, pleasant manner made us feel very comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we left completely satisfied. We also used the large public bath in the main building and enjoyed a rose-petal bath. The Room felt a bit small for three people—the beds ended up pushed together—but since there was also a dining area, we used that space to chat comfortably. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay; however, one issue was that in the morning the hot water supply to the Room bath stopped. We have stayed at many Accommodations with private baths (open-air Onsen baths), but this was shocking—our first time experiencing anything like it. In our family, finishing with a luxurious morning Onsen bath has become our standard tradition when traveling, so this point was extremely disappointing.

A Hotel you’ll be truly satisfied with.

We stayed with our dog. Since our dog is timid, being able to dine in the Room was wonderful. It was also my husband’s birthday, and we were truly impressed by the delicious meal—we were very satisfied. The open-air bath in the Room was great as well, but the baths in the main building and the garden bath had a lovely atmosphere, allowing us to relax and unwind. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much to all the staff for your thoughtful care and consideration.

The Room’s open-air bath was very spacious and excellent.

We stayed here for a family trip. This was our second stay, and we chose the same Room with an open-air bath as last time. The open-air bath in the Room is wonderfully spacious—large enough for the whole family to enjoy together, which was fantastic. Dinner was very delicious, but we would have liked a bit more volume. The staff member who assisted us during the meal explained everything clearly and was very kind. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and everything was delicious—I ended up eating too much without realizing it. The marinated sashimi in particular was excellent! We’ve been to many breakfast buffets at different Accommodations, but this buffet is my favorite! However, one disappointing point: a baby bouncer for our child was prepared during the meal, but it had large leftover food from the previous user and was quite dirty, so we decided not to use it. As a result, it was difficult having to hold our child throughout dinner. The dirtiness was noticeable at a glance, so I think it would be better if it could be checked in advance... This is just a request, but there wasn’t any baby soap available for children to borrow—I wish there had been. We also enjoyed using the lounge that is available only to guests staying in Rooms with an open-air bath; it was very comfortable. Thank you very much.

    You can relax and unwind.

This is my impression compared with Kotohira Grand Hotel Sakura no Sho, where I stayed previously. Both rooms are good. Sakura offers views of the Konpira approach, so preferences may vary. As for location, Sakura is located along the approach, while Koubai is a little farther away; since many cars pass by, it felt slightly dangerous. For meals and service, Koubai offered more local items and the service was more attentive. Regarding the baths, Sakura has a large public bath with an open feel, while Koubai is split into two areas, which felt a bit inconvenient. Both are good Hotels, so I would like to stay again.

    Near Kotohira Shrine

Because it is close to Kotohira Shrine, it was great that we could walk there from the Accommodation. I thought both the Room and the meals were good. However, most of the guests were from China, and I was quite surprised when someone entered the bathing area wearing shoes while I was changing. There was a sign saying “No shoes,” but they probably didn’t read it. There was also a massage chair in the post-bath area, and they sat on it with their shoes on as well. It didn’t feel pleasant.

Front desk service: no stars; everything else: 5 stars.

Ever since I saw a JTB brochure years ago featuring a great deal to stay at a renowned Ryokan on certain weekdays, this has been an Accommodation I wanted to visit someday. Last year my trip to see the Kawazu cherry blossoms along the Minatogawa River was spoiled by late blooming, so I planned a “revenge” trip this year—and with a good-value Plan available, I finally made it here. There were two large public baths. Using pH test strips for an Onsen check: on the 1st floor, both the open-air bath and indoor bath were pH 7–8, and the jacuzzi was pH 6–7; on B1, the indoor bath, open-air bath, and ceramic tub were all pH 7–8. According to the posted information, the water is heated, circulated, partially free-flowing, and chlorinated. Regardless of water quality details, what stood out most was how lovely it felt to soak in the B1 open-air bath with roses floating on the surface—the faint fragrance made for a wonderful time. The complimentary sake service and ice pops on the 1st floor were also a nice touch. Dinner was kaiseki served in the restaurant, and an older female staff member (a traditional attendant) provided outstanding service. Everything was delicious, and the portion size was just right—I finished it all comfortably. For breakfast—perhaps using ingredients left from dinner—the seafood toppings for the kaisen-don were excellent; there was more seafood than rice. Normally this would have been a perfect stay with nothing to complain about… However: my Room’s air conditioning wasn’t working properly, making it uncomfortable enough that I woke up during the night. Since this is something only guests would notice firsthand, I took extra time to report it at reception. At a renowned Ryokan like this, I would expect an apology from someone equivalent to a manager or proprietress—but none came. When returning my key at checkout (the same person was at reception), there still wasn’t any apology. On top of that—while waiting to check in—I saw staff lift another guest’s suitcase by pulling up on its telescopic handle rather than holding it properly by its main handle; seeing that from someone working in travel/hospitality left me uneasy. That unease then escalated further as I left. Also, when making my Reservation I requested that an accessible parking space be secured for me; there was no reply about how they would handle it (most Accommodations do respond), and in fact there weren’t any designated accessible spaces in their parking area. So overall: zero stars for front desk operations; five stars for everything else—that is my evaluation this time around.

    Kotohira Shrine

Stayed here while sightseeing at Konpira-san. The lobby is lavish and evokes the charm of Japan’s good old Showa era. There is also a retro lounge on the second floor where you can relax with drinks and light snacks. To reach the large public bath, you need to step outside once, which would be cold in midwinter. The location is about a 5-minute walk from the entrance to Konpira-san, making it convenient for sightseeing. The atmosphere feels more suited to group tours. The meal included some show-style elements and tasted good, but drinks ran short, and even when we called staff they often didn’t notice for quite a while.

We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. The Room was impeccably clean, and the massage chair helped ease our daytime fatigue. The lounge also offered a great selection of snacks and drinks, and the staff were kind and accommodating even with children. The meal portions were ample, and we had no issues at all. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

It was a very comfortable stay. The Room was thoroughly cleaned and exceptionally spotless. I was delighted by the thoughtful touches that made me think, “This is exactly what I wanted,” such as large bottled water for tea and coffee, separate towels for drying hands in the washroom and restroom (apart from those for bathing), and individual safes for each guest’s valuables. There were many different baths in various locations, so I enjoyed bathing several times during my stay. In particular, the standing bath at night and the Flower Bath in the morning left a strong impression. Above all, the food was outstanding. Not only dinner, but every item at the breakfast buffet was beautifully seasoned; with such an impressive variety and quality in both the Japanese and Western sections, it made me wish I could have had a Multiple Night Stay. Thank you very much. I would love to stay again.

    We recommend it.

There is a free lounge, and they kindly allowed us to leave our car even after check-out. The service was excellent! We appreciated the welcome drink and being able to check in a little earlier than scheduled.

    Neither good nor bad.

I chose this accommodation because I wanted to enjoy fugu cuisine. The food was delicious, and the breakfast buffet had a wide variety of options, which made it enjoyable. It was great to try local specialties like oden and jakoten. As a fan of local sake, I wished there had been a tasting set available. One disappointment was the lounge on the second floor called "Hana Club," which I read about in reviews. I thought free drinks and alcohol could be enjoyed freely there, but it turned out that this option is only available for rooms with private open-air baths. This distinction wasn't clear on the reservation site. The bath was spacious and nice; however, I noticed some issues such as deteriorated blinds in the open-air bath on the first floor and dust near the faucet of cold water in the changing room that could be wiped off by hand. While most parts of the facility were clean inside and out, these small details caught my attention. It might have been due to visiting during a cold wave, but my husband kept mentioning that even after adjusting the room's air conditioning temperature higher, it didn’t warm up enough. Personally, it didn’t bother me much; however, considering its setting temperature, it seemed not to reach our desired warmth. The private open-air bath was excellent. There seemed to be fewer guests during our stay than usual. Thanks to this, we were able to relax in the baths at our own pace and enjoy breakfast without any stress. Considering how busy it might get during peak seasons with many visitors around, I think this ryokan would be ideal for families with children looking for a comfortable stay.

Our head chef is dedicated and hardworking.

As with my previous stay, the head chef works tirelessly both at night and in the morning. Just watching them passionately cooking in the open kitchen enhances the deliciousness of the meals. I truly wanted to express my gratitude, but they seemed so busy that I hesitated to approach them. I also mentioned this to the front desk staff, but I’m curious about the wine cellar located at the entrance of the restaurant. It might be a good idea to include a note on the drink menu suggesting interested guests inquire about it. This time, during check-out, I appreciated how attentive and engaging the front desk staff were. It reminded me that simply being mindful as a guest—such as approaching staff when they are less busy—can significantly enhance one’s impression of an accommodation.

It was the best birthday trip ever!

The meals, the Room, and the smiles of the staff were all amazing! During dinner, I received sweets and gifts for my birthday—thank you so much. It became the best birthday trip ever! The yukata was also very lovely, and there was even a different one prepared for sleeping. If I may suggest, a pajama-style set with separate top and bottom might be warmer for sleeping. Also, since this is such an elegant Ryokan, upgrading to a higher-quality hairdryer would make it even better. The flowers floating in the open-air bath were roses at night and dendrobium orchids in the morning! It made me feel so happy! The cleaning was thorough, making everything very comfortable. There are two baths available; since it's cold now, I used the underground one twice—but in summer, I'm sure the separate building bath would be fantastic too! This is a Ryokan I want to recommend to everyone! Thank you so much again!

    Warm and friendly service

The dining area was staffed by many international workers. Their warm smiles were delightful, and they carefully sanitized the tables after meals. Seeing the staff working harmoniously brought a smile to our faces as well. Of course, every dish we tried was delicious. As a suggestion, it might be nice to offer two options for senior guests: reducing the number of dishes while upgrading their quality.

    This was my second stay...

The first time I stayed, I was truly impressed by the amazing dinner and breakfast. Dinner included rare conger eel sashimi, spiny lobster, abalone, and a steak comparison of olive beef and pork. Breakfast was Western-style with delightful touches like bread featuring paw-shaped patterns. These experiences left such a lasting impression that I decided to visit again during the same season. However, this time was disappointing. There was no conger eel sashimi for dinner, nor were there spiny lobster, abalone, or the olive beef and pork steak comparison as listed on the reservation site. It made me question why these items weren’t included when they were advertised. Instead, we were served fish dishes in succession—braised sea bream head followed by grilled barracuda with yuzu—and finally finished with beef shabu-shabu in a hot pot. The quality seemed to have dropped significantly compared to before; it left me feeling disappointed rather than moved. Breakfast only offered Japanese-style options that were very ordinary and could be found anywhere else. The portion size was also surprisingly small. If only Japanese breakfast is available, I would have hoped for something of higher quality. Additionally, the lounge had no replenishments at all this time around—unlike last year—and the service felt noticeably worse. I had been looking forward to visiting again but was left shocked and disappointed by how much the quality has declined since my previous stay.

Thank you for your hospitality. The meals were delicious, and I had a very enjoyable time. However, the door to the open-air bath in the guest room was very heavy, possibly due to indoor and outdoor air pressure differences, and I injured my finger when it got caught. Additionally, I didn’t notice that the wooden slats under the open-air bath were uneven and tripped over them, resulting in a bruise. While I believe those responsible for room maintenance are aware of these issues, first-time guests may get injured as it is dangerous. Thank you for providing gauze at the front desk.

    Disappointing

A cute welcome board at the entrance, luggage assistance provided, and check-in was done in a small room. Thank you for the birthday gift as well. The Room was clean. The large public bath is located in the main building, so it was a bit far, but it was a clean bathhouse. Up to this point, everything was great; however, I chose this place because I could dine with my dog in the Room. Unfortunately, we were placed in a small room where we had to grill meat using a household electric grill. The smell lingered heavily in the Room and wouldn't go away even after some time. Despite taking a bath earlier, my yukata and hair absorbed the smell as well. We had to close off access to the bedroom area to prevent the odor from spreading further. Additionally, tea provided wasn't hot but served cold from an already-prepared teapot instead of being freshly brewed with a pot kettle. The staff assisting with serving meals showed no courtesy or willingness to help clear dishes afterward; their indifferent attitude left us feeling uncomfortable. While everything else about this place is beautiful and met our expectations initially, unfortunately, dining here turned out disappointing overall due to these issues.

Thank you for being a part of a wonderful journey.

I usually live abroad, but I stayed here during a short visit to Japan. The Ryokan itself was very elegant, allowing me to fully enjoy the essence of Japan after a long time. I booked a plan with dinner and breakfast included. The dinner was a Japanese course meal, and every dish was meticulously prepared and absolutely delicious. What surprised me the most was the variety and quality of the breakfast buffet. Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations for a buffet, but each item had excellent quality, making it highly satisfying. This time, as I stayed with my small child, we used the private bath. The atmosphere was outstanding and created wonderful memories for our family. Overall, it was an amazing stay, and I would love to stay here again if given the opportunity!

    It was very relaxing.

This was our first trip as a couple. The accommodation was very high-quality, and the staff greeted us warmly and were attentive, leaving an impression of excellent employee training. Thanks to this, we had a very pleasant stay. The guest room, meals, and bath were all impeccable. We especially loved the private bath in the room and enjoyed it three times each morning and evening along with outdoor air bathing. We would love to stay here again when visiting Kotohira Shrine!

Your furry friends will be delighted too!

Not only is there a dog run, but also a dog lounge where you can relax and spend time with your dog without worry. The room has its own garden, and the open-air bath in the room faces the garden and can be fully opened, allowing humans to relax as well. I would definitely like to stay again. Meals are served in-room, but there is also a separate dining room from the bedroom where you can enjoy meals together with your dog. The food was incredibly delicious.

We enjoyed the hot water, the food, and the Room.

On the third day of our Kagawa trip, we visited parks and islands, and paid our respects at Konpira Shrine. Though we were exhausted, soaking in the relaxing hot bath and enjoying delicious meals both at night and in the morning completely rejuvenated us. The staff's hospitality was wonderful, and if given the chance, we would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

We look forward to welcoming you again!

We had a relaxing stay at Wan-chan First Torau-me. The dog run was clean, and the lounge next door was stocked with plenty of treats, which showed great thoughtfulness. As for the owner's meals, we usually don't expect much, but we were very satisfied with dinner here. The quality of the dishes was high, and you could taste the goodness of the ingredients—everything was delicious. If possible, I would have loved to have about five more pieces of sushi. The self-service free drinks required us to get up to refill, but it actually helped us control our intake. Breakfast served in the room... well... it felt a bit lacking compared to dinner. The side dishes were cold and few in number; overall, it was disappointing. This is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. However, I would love to visit again. The water pressure in the showers at the Onsen public bath was low, making it take a long time to rinse my hair thoroughly. This also contributed to my 4-star rating. Thank you for your hospitality!

    An Unexpectedly Delightful Experience

I booked the "Omakase Plan," and it exceeded my expectations. The room with an open-air bath was wonderful, and the delicious meals were more than we could finish. I had a very happy time with my mother. This level of hospitality at this price was truly surprising, and I had an extremely satisfying stay.
