  Thank you for allowing us to stay with our dog.

  We stayed with our dog, so we chose the annex Room so we could step outside quickly and keep an eye on things. The layout was a bit compact, and while there were two stylish chairs, we felt a sofa would have made it even more relaxing. Our family of four stayed in two Rooms, and everyone was satisfied with the service, meals, and Onsen. If we had to mention one thing, since the meals were brought over from the main building to the annex, some dishes weren’t piping hot—but that may be unavoidable. Even before welcoming our dog into our family, we stayed at various Accommodations, but Furuya Ryokan offers consistently high quality overall and is also a truly valuable Accommodation for welcoming dogs. Next time, we would like to stay in the main building. Thank you for taking care of us.

  It was the finest Ryokan imaginable.

  When planning a trip to Atami, I researched various Ryokan and noticed Furuya Ryokan, the only one in Atami with its own private hot spring source, so I made a Reservation and stayed there. I was impressed from the warm welcome, and the young proprietress in charge kindly accompanied us throughout the day, so we felt at ease the entire time. I was also happy that meals were served in our Room, and I was truly amazed by the quality of the cuisine. Both my partner and I—big food lovers—couldn’t praise it enough! We enjoyed plenty of Atami’s local specialties at both dinner and breakfast. The Room was spacious and comfortable, and we were able to relax in the open-air bath—it turned into a wonderful day. Exceptional hospitality, outstanding cuisine, and a beautiful atmosphere. I’d like to make another Reservation as a wedding anniversary gift for my parents.

  We were extremely satisfied with this Ryokan!

  This stay truly showed why this long-established Ryokan in Atami has been loved for so many years. This time, we stayed in a detached guest room. The Japanese-style room was calm and relaxing, and the private open-air bath fed by the natural hot spring source, made of hinoki cypress, smelled wonderful—an indulgent space where we could enjoy the Onsen as many times as we liked whenever we wanted. We were also happy that it was 100% natural hot spring water. The staff were extremely courteous, and their hospitality felt comfortable with just the right sense of distance. For dinner, we enjoyed a kaiseki course upgraded with dancing grilled live abalone and A5-grade beef; every dish highlighted the quality of its ingredients with refined seasoning, and we were thoroughly satisfied. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of dishes, making us feel pampered from the morning. This Accommodation is highly recommended for anyone who wants to relax quietly at an unhurried pace.

  I was satisfied.

  The meal service in the Room was impeccable, and we were able to savor each dish at a relaxed pace. Everything was elegant and very carefully prepared. The bath was a good size, clean, and satisfying. It would have been even better with a sauna. The service throughout the property was excellent. However, it felt like there were slightly too many check-ins from the staff; a simple nod would have been enough, and being told “Have a nice bath” and “Please relax” every time we went to the bath felt a bit excessive. Overall, it was a relaxing day away from everyday life. We would like to visit again.

  I haven’t been there, though…

  My mother, who turned 80 this year, visited with a longtime friend. She came home in high spirits and told me about her trip. She said the building was charming in a good way, or a bit old-fashioned in a bad way, but the cleaning throughout was thorough and she never felt it was dirty. Since we mentioned in advance that she has some difficulty walking, they even prepared a chair in the Room, and she felt their thoughtful attention to detail. She was especially pleased with how kind one of the younger attendants was to her. Of course, all of the staff—not just the attendants—provided warm, hospitable service, making it a truly satisfying trip. After hearing so many positive comments, I’d like to visit myself sometime soon. I look forward to staying with you then (haha).

  An Accommodation known for its warm hospitality

  We stayed to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The Room had been renovated in 2022, and everything was very clean and comfortable. Some Facility items, such as the refrigerator, felt a bit dated, but the cleaning was thorough and nothing bothered us. The open-air bath in the Room was especially relaxing—the hinoki cypress tub felt wonderful, and we enjoyed a long soak while being soothed by its fragrance. The Room was also spacious, and it left a strong impression on us that we could spend such a leisurely, luxurious time. Since it was for a birthday celebration, we also received a small thoughtful gesture, which made us feel truly warm inside. Thank you very much. If I had to mention one thing, considering the Accommodation Fee range, I felt that higher-grade amenities would have made our satisfaction even greater. Overall, it was a lovely Accommodation that I would recommend to anyone who wants to relax and stay slowly on a special occasion.

  The hospitality was attentive, and the meals were excellent.

  My mother and I stayed in the largest Room. While the building itself felt a bit aged, the Room was very clean. The female staff who assisted us were polite and friendly, which made us feel at ease. What we liked - The open-air bath in the Room was incredibly relaxing. - Since meals were served in the Room, we could take our time. - Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding—everything was delicious. - Even for light eaters, the overall portions felt easy to finish. - We informed them of ingredients we dislike in advance, and they kindly accommodated changes. - We appreciated that they handled setting up and putting away the futons. - The mattress was excellent—very comfortable. - The self-service coffee in the main building lobby was delicious. What we noticed - The second lobby was also a nice place to relax at a comfortable pace. The main building lobby had a surprisingly casual vibe; I thought it would feel more like a Ryokan if it had a more refined, tranquil atmosphere with a sense of grandeur. - The wooden flooring just inside the Room entrance made slight rattling sounds when walking on it, which caught my attention. This was our first stay here, but thanks to attentive service that’s rare these days and wonderful meals, we were able to truly unwind. Thank you very much.

  Enjoy an Onsen getaway

  It had been a long time since I stayed at an Accommodation where I was welcomed at the entrance. I couldn’t fully open the bathroom window in the Room to enjoy the view, but even with the shade down, there were plants placed there, so I could relax and enjoy the Onsen. Every dish was delicious—so much so that I wanted to buy them as souvenirs to take home. If I have a chance to visit Atami again, I plan to choose this place.

  The attentive hospit...

  The attentive hospitality that reflects a long history, the high-quality Onsen, and the meals made for wonderful memories. The meals in particular were thoughtfully crafted, and I felt they were top-level in how they brought out the best of each ingredient. The in-Room Onsen also had an abundant flow and was just the right size, making it easy to relax and enjoy. From the welcome to the service throughout my stay, the staff were courteous and made me feel at ease. One disappointment was that there were few amenities, and having only soap for handwashing—perhaps a tradition?—felt inconvenient. Overall, it felt like an older Hotel. If I were rating amenities alone, I would give it a “2.” I think the Facility is good overall, but there was what appeared to be a letter from a famous author displayed; if there were an explanation of who wrote it and why, it could make the space even more atmospheric. In addition, there is a reading area with books in the annex building, but alcohol is not allowed there. I thought I would rather read while having a drink in my Room; however, books are not allowed to be taken out. It felt like a missed opportunity despite the effort put into creating such a beautiful space.

  The hospitality was wonderful.

  Based on the excellent Reviews on IKYU, I made a Reservation. First of all, the staff’s attitude and service were outstanding. The Room and Facility were impeccably clean, making for a very comfortable stay. Meals were served in the Room for both dinner and breakfast. The attendant carefully served each dish; there was plenty of food, and everything was exquisite and delicious. The in-room refrigerator was stocked with many complimentary drinks such as beer and juices. After bathing, a wide variety of drinks was also available. In the morning, they even delivered the daily newspaper to my Room—an Accommodation filled with wonderful hospitality. Thank you very much.

  A blissful getaway for mother and daughter to enjoy Atami’s renowned hot springs

  We visited the prestigious Furuya Ryokan in Atami to celebrate Mother’s Day a little early. We stayed in a detached Room with a cypress open-air bath.   My elderly parents were delighted.

  We planned this trip to celebrate my parents’ wedding anniversary and found this Ryokan. My father will soon be 80 and uses a wheelchair due to mobility issues, so we were looking for an Accommodation where he could relax and fully enjoy his time in the Room. With in-room dining, a private open-air bath in the guest Room, and a spacious layout, it was exactly what we had hoped for. Every dish was carefully prepared and delicious. The hōba-yaki beef on the mid-course plate was especially outstanding—the slightly sweet miso was incredible as well. The seasonal rice was clam rice cooked in an earthenware pot. It was so good I had three bowls (lol). My mother was impressed by the beautifully presented appetizers with such a variety to enjoy. And then the open-air bath we’d been looking forward to: free-flowing natural hot spring water with clear water that warmed us from the core—it was wonderful. The morning bath felt amazing too, enjoying it with the breeze. It had been a while since we could forget everyday life and truly unwind. Now I understand why there are so many repeat guests. While feeling its 200-year history, I also thought what a Ryokan this is—one I hope continues for many years to come. We’d love to visit again!

  It was a wonderful accommodation.

  The dishes were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious—I was truly impressed. I enjoyed a relaxing meal in my Room, and with both a large public bath and an open-air bath, I was able to refresh on my solo trip. The attendant assigned to my Room was wonderfully considerate, and I was touched that they saw me off at checkout until I was out of sight. It was an Accommodation I would love to visit again.

  We stayed as a famil...

  We stayed as a family of three: my spouse, our one-year-old child, and me. After making the Reservation, we received an email asking whether we needed any baby-care items. They offered thoughtful support such as providing a diaper disposal bin and a microwave, and even laying out futons in advance for nap time, which helped us head to the Accommodation with peace of mind. We had a Multiple Night Stay for 2 nights and 3 days, and we were happy that the entire menu changed between the first and second day. Many ingredients were seasonal and locally sourced from Shizuoka, and everything was delicious. Both breakfast and dinner were very luxurious, and we were completely satisfied with both the taste and portion sizes. From the moment we arrived at the Ryokan entrance, we were impressed by the wonderfully pleasant service. The same staff member assisted us throughout our 2-night stay; he was a gentle-mannered man, so even our shy son wasn’t scared, which really helped. Not only when he came to our Room but also when we passed each other in the building, he kindly asked with a smile if there was anything he could help with, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay. Although it is a historic building, it has been beautifully renovated. The large public bath isn’t huge, but both the changing area and bathing area were clean, and the Onsen water quality was excellent—we felt warm all over afterward. We also appreciated the complimentary post-bath drinks. Overall, this was the best Accommodation among all Ryokan/Hotels we have stayed at so far. We would love to come back again as a family. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our 2-night stay.

  The Best Accommodation

  This is the best Accommodation I’ve ever stayed at! They welcomed us right at the entrance, and from that moment on, everything was wonderfully attentive. The spacious Room was spotless and beautifully maintained. Above all, the in-room bath was amazing. Soaking in it melted away my fatigue and left my skin silky smooth. And the meals were outstanding as well. From the beautifully presented, colorful appetizers onward, every dish was delicious—one delight after another. This time we chose the abalone and Wagyu Plan, and the abalone was unbelievably tender and flavorful—the best I’ve ever had. Breakfast was also very luxurious; the dried fish and homemade shiokara were especially delicious. Everyone at the Accommodation was wonderful, and our host was charming; we enjoyed great conversation and had a truly lovely time. This was our second stay, but it’s rare to find an Accommodation that makes you want to return this much. My companion was so moved they said it made them sad to leave. It’s a fantastic Accommodation that I’d love to stay at again for an anniversary or as a special treat for myself.

  Three-Generation Family Trip

  My two daughters (ages 5 and 6) and my mother, who is nearly 70, stayed at this Accommodation as three generations to celebrate my eldest starting elementary school. The food was outstanding. Highlights: 1) We were welcomed at the gate, took photos, and then checked in. The staff were attentive throughout our stay, including at departure. 2) Before dinner we used the large public bath. My daughter said there were lots of water droplets on the ceiling; when I looked up, there was no mold or staining at all—impressive. The entire property and our Room were spotless, making our stay very comfortable. 3) The children’s meals were not an afterthought—high-quality ingredients were used, and when I tried a bite it was truly delicious. 4) The kaiseki cuisine was delicate and carefully prepared dish by dish, featuring local ingredients. Portions were generous and we left completely satisfied. It wasn’t overly salty either—I didn’t wake up puffy the next day! This Ryokan has set a new personal best for us. 5) Because dinner was served in our Room, we could relax and enjoy the meal without worrying about the kids getting noisy afterward.

  Staying with a Baby

  Atami’s most renowned long-established Ryokan

  Atami’s finest long-established Ryokan. It is also famous for having been a regular retreat for renowned historical figures such as Heihachiro Togo, Yoshiko Kawashima, Shoyo Tsubouchi, and Taikan Yokoyama, and related items and letters are on display. While Furuya Ryokan does not publicly disclose this, it is said to be the Accommodation chosen in Atami for national dignitaries and by the Imperial Household Agency, and it is also where His Majesty the Emperor Emeritus stayed when he was Crown Prince. That quiet discretion speaks to the high prestige of Furuya Ryokan. The cuisine was outstanding—everything from abalone grilled live to A5-grade wagyu was beautifully presented and truly delicious; a feast that felt quintessentially “Ryokan.” I had noted on the Reservation form that my friend cannot eat meat, and they thoughtfully replaced each meat dish with other ingredients one by one—an exceptional level of care. The fried fugu among those substitutions was especially incredible. The in-Room open-air bath was also superb. It rained on the first day, but because there was a roof, soaking while listening to the rain had a wonderfully atmospheric feel. I also used the large public bath’s open-air bath. Since it is available even late at night, I went early in the morning—and because it was so early, no one else was there. Having that spacious open-air bath all to myself felt like an incredibly luxurious moment. After bathing, you can freely take drinks prepared in the refrigerator—and not only soft drinks but even beer! I really felt their attentive consideration. After that I returned to my Room and enjoyed another private morning soak in the in-Room open-air bath before breakfast. After just one soak I could immediately feel the difference—the hot spring water quality is excellent and left my skin silky smooth. This is not an exaggeration; after bathing I couldn’t help blurting out, “Wow—amazing!” I genuinely felt how good the water quality was as my skin became smooth and moisturized. Breakfast prepared after bathing was equally wonderful—everything tasted great, and even though I don’t usually eat much in the morning, I ended up having multiple refills of rice. The coffee provided in the Room is Nespresso, with every kind of drink option you could want. The amenities are also high quality. Above all else, the staff hospitality was exceptional—an Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again. If you’re looking for a prestigious Accommodation with truly high standards of quality, I can confidently say this is Atami’s best.

  Everything was exceptional.

  From the moment we arrived, we were truly impressed by the warm and welcoming hospitality. We stayed in a detached Room, and it was wonderfully relaxing—there was a library downstairs with many fascinating books, and the Room also had a semi-open-air bath. Both breakfast and dinner were carefully prepared, delicious, and completely satisfying. We visited with our family and pet to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, and it became a truly memorable experience. Please never discontinue the Rooms with open-air baths where guests can stay with their pets!!! Thank you so much!!!!

  Room Bath

  Both the large public bath and the open-air bath were very pleasant. The open-air bath in the Room did not have a shower, so it was a bit disappointing to have to cross the Room again to get to the bathroom after using it. The staff were very helpful, and it was a comfortable Facility that I would like to visit again.

  Enjoy a hearty kaiseki meal and a relaxing open-air bath!

  We were warmly welcomed in front of the charming gate that feels just like a long-established Ryokan, and everyone was incredibly kind throughout our stay. The Room was very spacious and even came with a private open-air bath with free-flowing natural hot spring water, so we were able to fully enjoy a luxurious girls’ trip. We also loved that both dinner and breakfast were served in our Room. Dinner offered an amazing variety of dishes and generous portions, and we could savor local Atami ingredients as well. The bluefin tuna sashimi and the tasting comparison of three types of sea bream were especially impressive! For breakfast, we chose the Plan that includes “Kamatsuru” dried horse mackerel, and it was absolutely the right choice! There’s a shop near the Accommodation too, but when we went for lunch there was already a line. There is also an annex called “Second Lobby: Sho wo Yomu Tabibito,” so next time I’d love to bring my husband for a workcation. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that I’d definitely want to stay again whenever I visit Atami.

  It was wonderful.

  I walked down the slope from the station and was welcomed in through a large gate. Although it is a historic Ryokan, the Facility is modern, and the staff are kind and refreshing. Both the meals and the baths were great. In the lobby, delicious coffee was served using two types of beans, and both were excellent. I would like to visit again.
