An Accommodation with exceptional in-room dining and a superb open-air bath in the Room

This Ryokan is highly recommended for anyone looking to relax in Atami and enjoy genuine hospitality. We stayed in the annex, and the most memorable feature was the private open-air Onsen bath in the Room. Being able to soak whenever we wanted without worrying about others felt truly luxurious. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room, which made it easy to enjoy meals in a calm, private setting. Dinner started at 18:00, and we were especially impressed by the beef fillet, dancing abalone, and rice cooked in a clay pot—everything was delicious. For breakfast, you can choose either 8:00 or 8:30; we enjoyed a classic Ryokan-style meal centered around grilled dried fish at a relaxed pace. The staff provided excellent service with thoughtful attention to detail, making our stay very comfortable. The location is also convenient for sightseeing, with Atami Beach and local street-food spots nearby. We were fully satisfied with the Onsen, dining, and service—an outstanding Ryokan experience overall.

All the meals were truly delicious! The splendid alfonsino was especially tasty, and I’m glad I added it. This is a traditional Accommodation, but it didn’t feel old at all—everything was spotless and wonderful. The bath was also great. I was able to relax at a leisurely pace and feel refreshed. Thank you very much!

We were completely satisfied with everything!

This Ryokan was the one we chose after a lot of thought for our annual Onsen trip with four women, and in the end, everyone was completely satisfied with our stay. First, before check-in, we were trying to take a commemorative photo near the entrance when a staff member immediately spoke to us and kindly took the picture for us. We’re not great at taking selfies, so we truly appreciated it. Check-in afterward was smooth, and we headed to our Room. The staff member in charge of our Room was also wonderful, providing attentive service while giving us just the right amount of space. And then came the meals—unbelievably outstanding. Not only delicious, but beautifully presented and perfectly balanced; there was probably quite a lot of food, yet we finished everything easily. We all agreed: “Let’s come back here again next year!” We have nothing but respect for all the staff who run everything so well. Thank you very much.

[As Expected of a Long-Established Ryokan] I’ve never stayed at a Ryokan with food this delicious.

I stayed here on a trip with my mother. We chose this Ryokan because we wanted to relax, enjoy delicious meals, and soak in the open-air bath in our Room. It was my first time staying at a long-established Ryokan said to have over 200 years of history, and it was beautifully renovated and very clean. Another big plus was that we could enjoy in-room dining at a higher table (not the typical low Ryokan table), which made it much more comfortable for my mother, who finds it difficult to sit for long periods. What I especially want to highlight is the quality of the Onsen water. The temperature was perfect—neither too hot nor too cold—just wonderfully relaxing. The food was also surprisingly delicious. With every dish, I kept thinking how amazing the dashi broth tasted, and I was impressed from start to finish. A small detail, but I also appreciated that all drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary (including beer and canned cocktails). The hospitality from the staff truly lived up to expectations, and we had a very happy, memorable time. This is an Accommodation I can confidently recommend—a wonderful place suitable for guests of all ages.

An Accommodation We Hope You’ll Choose for Your Special Day

I found this Ryokan while looking for a trip to give my boyfriend as a birthday present, also as a thank-you for his proposal. This was an important trip for me, and everything—from the hospitality to the Onsen, the food, and the Room—was wonderful. It was a truly heartwarming Ryokan. When I asked about bringing in wine as a surprise, they responded and accommodated my request promptly and with great care. I didn’t expect such thoughtful support, and I’m very grateful. In the end, he was delighted, and we were able to spend a lovely time together. While searching for a Ryokan, I saw many reviews praising the hospitality, and after staying here I completely understand why. The service from our attendant and all other staff was excellent, making this trip even more special. We also enjoyed seasonal flavors in the cuisine, and since it was served in our Room we could relax and enjoy it at our own pace. The words said to us at departure—“We look forward to welcoming you again in another season”—left a strong impression on me. We would love to visit again.

    A Short One-Night, Two-Day Summer Getaway

We stayed as a family of three—a couple with an elementary school-aged child. From arrival to departure, the service was exceptionally high. In particular, I was amazed that when my child and I returned from the beach, they recognized us just from seeing us at the entrance—without us even introducing ourselves—and promptly came to our Room to greet us. I’d honestly like to give more than five stars. As for the Facility, unlike the time-limited private baths often found at other Hotels, we were able to enjoy natural free-flowing Onsen in the open-air bath attached to our Room without any hesitation as a family of three. Regarding meals, both the dinner course included in our Plan and optional dishes such as splendid alfonsino were outstanding. Breakfast also offered many small portions with great variety, and all of us—my wife, my child, and I—were very satisfied. The only reason I reduced my star rating slightly was that a bath towel we requested never arrived. It’s not a big issue, but given our high expectations for a luxury Ryokan…

Satisfaction with the Food and Service

The meals were generous in portion size and very satisfying. The grilled dancing abalone was delicious. All drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary, including alcohol, so we ended up having a few before dinner. There was also a refrigerator near the post-bath area with a wide variety of drinks, and the thoughtful attention to detail really stood out. The bath water was very rich in minerals, and even a short soak made us sweat plenty. It had excellent heat-retaining qualities.

A cozy Onsen and hearty meals at Furuya Ryokan!

This time, I stayed at Furuya Ryokan, a very popular place in Atami that I had been curious about for a long time. 1. Room & Amenities The room had a historic feel, yet it was thoroughly cleaned down to every detail, so I was able to stay comfortably. On the other hand, I found the air-conditioning a bit difficult to adjust. Even after changing the airflow direction, the air still blew directly onto my face while sleeping in bed, which bothered me slightly. There were also lovely amenity perks for women, which was great. However, there were no similar perks for men. Since sunscreen is often used in summer and needs to be removed properly, I would have been even happier if cleansing and skincare items were also provided for men. 2. Onsen & Public Bath The open-air bath in the room was incredibly relaxing, and being able to soak as many times as I wanted at my preferred timing felt truly luxurious. The public bath also had a calm atmosphere and was very soothing. The entire property was kept impeccably clean throughout, making it comfortable to use. 3. Meals Every dish at dinner was carefully prepared—beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) in particular was outstanding and left a strong impression. I was surprised by both the number of dishes and the generous portions—more than I expected. The corn rice at the end was also delicious, but I couldn’t finish it because I was so full. If there were an option to have it made into onigiri or something similar, I think I could have enjoyed it later as a late-night snack. Breakfast was also very lavish, and the two-color donburi we added on order was so good that I could honestly eat it every day. It made for an indulgent start to the day. 4. Hospitality & Service All staff members were kind and courteous throughout my stay, which made everything very pleasant. Their attentive care and heartfelt hospitality stood out to me—I really felt the warmth unique to a long-established Ryokan. 5. Overall The property had a calm atmosphere typical of an established Ryokan; while the lighting is somewhat subdued, that actually helped me relax even more. I spent consistently unhurried time here and am very satisfied overall. It’s a wonderful Accommodation where you can truly feel the charm of its history. There were a few minor points of concern, but they were far outweighed by how excellent the meals, Onsen experience, and service were—and when I visit Atami again, I would definitely love to return.

Before I knew it, I hadn’t stepped out of the Room even once.

Atami Furuya Ryokan [Overall Rating: 5.0/5] “An ideal Accommodation for adults who want to forget the busy everyday and enjoy the luxury of doing nothing.” Founded in 1806, this is one of Atami’s oldest established Ryokan. Even after celebrating its 220th anniversary, it continues to evolve while preserving tradition. Highlights include 100% natural Onsen water from its own source, “Seizaemon-no-Yu,” kaiseki cuisine served leisurely in your Room, and attentive hospitality tailored to each guest. [Recommended for] - Those who want to fully relax and enjoy the Onsen - Those seeking a refined stay-in retreat - Those who want an indulgent in-room dining experience [My stay] This time I stayed on the 220th Anniversary Plan. My Room was “R Main Building / 68 m² Japanese-style room (12.5 tatami + 4.5 tatami) with open-air bath fed by the natural hot spring source.” The Room was extremely spacious with no sense of confinement at all. It also had a private open-air bath, and both dinner and breakfast were served in-room. Soaking in the Onsen, eating, soaking again—taking everything slowly. I was genuinely impressed by how luxurious it felt that everything could be enjoyed without leaving the Room. At checkout we even laughed, saying, “Come to think of it, we never left the room even once.” It was that comfortable—a space where you can lose track of time. [Memorable points] Service: From the moment you enter the grounds, multiple staff members welcome you; upon entering the building, everyone present lines up to greet you—an exceptionally thorough welcome. A dedicated attendant supports you carefully from check-in through check-out, letting you fully experience hospitality unique to a long-established Ryokan. Dining: Kaiseki cuisine featuring seasonal ingredients from Atami and Shizuoka. You can savor local flavors that heighten the travel mood even more. The courses are thoughtfully composed so that even those who don’t usually eat much may find themselves finishing everything—and enjoying it all the way through. [What I liked] - Spacious 68 m² guest Room - Private open-air bath in-room - Both dinner and breakfast served in-room - Meticulous hospitality from dedicated staff - A stay that can be completed entirely within your Room [What I noticed] - The TV only has terrestrial digital channels [Nearby recommendation] - Juzen Jubi (十全十美) A parfait dessert shop operated by Furuya Ryokan. Upscale and polished—if your Atami trip includes both Furuya Ryokan and this spot, you can’t go wrong.

    As always, absolutely fantastic!

I’ve stayed here many times, but this is my first Review. What makes this Accommodation special isn’t the view or the location—it’s the Accommodation itself. The staff’s thoughtful care, the delicious food, and the overall comfort make me feel every time that I’m glad I stayed here. The historic building has been renovated, with modern Rooms and Facilities added to make it comfortable even for younger guests. It’s a wonderful Ryokan that you’ll want to return to again and again.

A relaxing and comfortable stay at a long-established Ryokan in Atami

I chose this Ryokan because it’s easy to reach from Tokyo, and I wanted to relax and enjoy delicious meals and the Onsen at a leisurely pace. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, and even though we arrived early, we were promptly shown to a clean Room. The hospitality in the lobby and guest rooms was excellent, and I was able to spend a relaxing time while enjoying sightseeing in Atami and the Onsen. Every meal served in the Room was delicious, and the staff’s attentive service truly reflected their spirit of hospitality. I traveled with my mother, and we felt genuinely cared for thanks to their thoughtful attention. It was a wonderful Ryokan that I would love to stay at again.

    Atami Getaway

Thank you for having us for one night. Although we were told there might be construction noise and that the stay was therefore “with a drawback,” it didn’t affect us at all, and we were able to fully enjoy a relaxing holiday in Atami. Since we were on the first floor, it was also easy to use the large public bath. Also, thank you very much to Ms. M, who assisted us with our Room, for your thoughtful attention to detail. What we liked: - Chairs are permanently available (especially helpful as we stayed with an elderly family member) - Plenty of towels - Delicious meals (our elderly family member finished everything) - The hot spring water quality (we heard it helped clear up heat rash) What could have been better: - A small amount of weeds in the well-maintained garden (they were noticeable from our seated eye level; understandable in summer, though)

I’d love to stay here again. I was able to relax very comfortably.

I was looking for a last-minute weekend getaway for the following week, with dinner and breakfast included and an in-Room Onsen, and found Furuya Ryokan. It was a special Plan due to circumstances, but it worked out perfectly. I was told the neighboring Room was under construction, but I didn’t notice any noise at all. A staff member was assigned to our Room, and they were a great conversationalist—never intrusive. They answered questions right away and kindly accommodated requests with a smile, such as drinks and arranging the futon. I felt comfortable speaking with them. There was also an excellent selection of alcoholic beverages at mealtimes, so I could try a variety. The food was beautifully prepared using seasonal local ingredients, and everything was delicious from start to finish. I usually can’t finish the entire meal, but the flavors were gentle and easy to enjoy—from the pre-dinner plum wine to the sesame tofu appetizer, starters and clear soup, seafood and mountain delicacies. I truly enjoyed it all. I also appreciated the service of complimentary beer and juice after using the large public bath. I had a truly restful stay and would love to visit again. To M-san in charge of our Room service team, and everyone at the Ryokan—thank you very much.

The Onsen was wonderfully rich and enjoyable. The meals were also delicious. Since yukata can be uncomfortable to sleep in, it would have been nice to have pajamas available.

    Enjoy the Onsen

I stayed for one night. The Room had been beautifully renovated, and having an Onsen bath that felt like a semi-open-air bath inside the Room was wonderful—I could soak as many times as I liked without worrying about others. However, on arrival, I got there a little before 3:00 p.m., and even though several other guests were also waiting at the entrance, the lights were not on and it was dim. The luggage we asked them to hold was simply placed together nearby, with no staff in sight—honestly, it felt like theft could happen easily. There was no welcome drink at check-in; we were only shown a self-serve coffee machine. This is not the kind of service I would expect from a long-established luxury Ryokan. The amenities were from POLA, so I assumed there might be some collaboration related to the Onsen water quality, but the small bottles were so stiff that nothing came out even when shaken—quite frustrating. It made me wonder if no one is actually using them… Even sample-sized products these days are often much better. The food was elaborate with many dishes, but personally it still fell short. The shop inside the Hotel also had a limited selection. Buying souvenirs at each Hotel is one of my pleasures when traveling, but I left without purchasing anything. As for the view, it may not be the Hotel’s fault, but it was disappointing. Those who are used to staying at hotels considered “luxury” may find this place lacking. Since pets are allowed to stay as well, I thought that if I liked it I might return next time with my pet—but unfortunately I won’t be coming back. That said, the premium Mont Blanc at their affiliated sweets shop (about 3,000 yen per person) was very delicious, and the atmosphere of the shop was lovely—I would recommend it.

Moved by the heartfelt hospitality. Perfect for a special anniversary.

We stayed for one night and two days to celebrate my husband’s birthday. From arrival to departure, the proprietress and staff were consistently polite and attentive, making our stay comfortable throughout. On his birthday, the proprietress also offered a thoughtful gesture that became a wonderful memory. The open-air hot spring bath made of hinoki cypress was at the perfect temperature, and because it is covered, we could enjoy it again and again without worrying about the weather. It feels very private, and the spacious tub lets you stretch out and soak in total relaxation. Dinner was outstanding—both the abalone and A5-grade beef were truly main-event delicious. The abalone was served alive and grilled right in front of us, resulting in a wonderfully plump texture. The A5-grade beef was tender, with rich marbling that melted in the mouth. There is also an excellent selection of sake and shochu to pair with the meal. We also appreciated the kind touch of turning our leftover rice into onigiri for a late-night snack. Everything—from the hospitality to the cuisine to the baths—was exceptional, and I can confidently recommend this place to anyone looking to spend special time with someone important.

    Long-established Ryokan

A truly historic Ryokan. They took a photo of us at the gate. Since it was our second day in Atami, they stored our luggage around 11:30, and we received the Furuya Ryokan original “Atami Strolling Town Walk Map,” so we went to Atami Ginza Street before check-in. At that time, when we mentioned there was a Mont Blanc shop, we were told it was their sister shop, but there was no explanation about the discount voucher. I was a little disappointed when I found the voucher only after entering the Room—especially since we had already waited about 40 minutes to eat there... Drinks in the refrigerator were free, but takeout wasn’t allowed, so we couldn’t finish them all. Because dinner was served in the Room, we were able to have beer. The meal—grilled dancing abalone and filet steak—was very satisfying. Room dining requires a lot of preparation, but our attendant explained everything carefully. However, their voice was a bit quiet, and my husband said he couldn’t hear well. It had been a while since we last had in-room dining, and it allowed us to relax. They also laid out the futons efficiently. The hot water in the pot and the morning tea with pickled plum felt nostalgic. The Onsen bath in our Room also felt wonderful. It was slightly inconvenient that we had to bring bath towels and towels to the large public bath, but it was nice that there was space for slippers inside lockers so they wouldn’t get mixed up with others’. Only yukata were provided in the Room, so as someone who prefers samue loungewear I found that disappointing—but I suppose that’s to be expected at a long-established Ryokan. Escaping busy days to soak in an Onsen and enjoy delicious food is my greatest pleasure—this trip felt like pure bliss and a reward for myself. Overall, we were satisfied. This is a Ryokan I’d like to visit again if I have another chance. Thank you very much.

I stayed at Furuya Ryokan again for the first time in a while.

We stayed at Furuya Ryokan again for the first time in a while, a place our family used to visit often. It seemed to have been renovated and was very clean. The Onsen was especially wonderful. I remembered the meals being delicious, and they were just as good as I recalled. It’s great that you can dine in your Room—we could talk without worrying about others around us. One small disappointment was that we left the air conditioner on while sleeping, but the noise bothered me and I couldn’t sleep well. We will stay again!

The food and service were excellent.

We visited for a three-generation trip. To make it comfortable for our toddler, they prepared a clean tatami Room with a microwave and a kids’ chair, and our child quickly warmed up to the Room attendant and was delighted. Above all, the meals were exceptionally delicious—we were truly impressed. We will definitely return.

This Ryokan is very convenient for guests traveling with infants and young children.

The other day, I stayed here with my wife and our 6-month-old son. Everyone was very kind, and we had a truly enjoyable time. We really appreciated the help with sterilizing baby bottles and preparing bedding for our child’s nap. Thanks to you, my wife and I were able to relax and enjoy our stay. The service from the woman who assisted us was excellent, and we would love to stay again.

Thank you for allowing us to stay with our dog.

We stayed with our dog, so we chose the annex Room so we could step outside quickly and keep an eye on things. The layout was a bit compact, and while there were two stylish chairs, we felt a sofa would have made it even more relaxing. Our family of four stayed in two Rooms, and everyone was satisfied with the service, meals, and Onsen. If we had to mention one thing, since the meals were brought over from the main building to the annex, some dishes weren’t piping hot—but that may be unavoidable. Even before welcoming our dog into our family, we stayed at various Accommodations, but Furuya Ryokan offers consistently high quality overall and is also a truly valuable Accommodation for welcoming dogs. Next time, we would like to stay in the main building. Thank you for taking care of us.

It was the finest Ryokan imaginable.

When planning a trip to Atami, I researched various Ryokan and noticed Furuya Ryokan, the only one in Atami with its own private hot spring source, so I made a Reservation and stayed there. I was impressed from the warm welcome, and the young proprietress in charge kindly accompanied us throughout the day, so we felt at ease the entire time. I was also happy that meals were served in our Room, and I was truly amazed by the quality of the cuisine. Both my partner and I—big food lovers—couldn’t praise it enough! We enjoyed plenty of Atami’s local specialties at both dinner and breakfast. The Room was spacious and comfortable, and we were able to relax in the open-air bath—it turned into a wonderful day. Exceptional hospitality, outstanding cuisine, and a beautiful atmosphere. I’d like to make another Reservation as a wedding anniversary gift for my parents.

We were extremely satisfied with this Ryokan!

This stay truly showed why this long-established Ryokan in Atami has been loved for so many years. This time, we stayed in a detached guest room. The Japanese-style room was calm and relaxing, and the private open-air bath fed by the natural hot spring source, made of hinoki cypress, smelled wonderful—an indulgent space where we could enjoy the Onsen as many times as we liked whenever we wanted. We were also happy that it was 100% natural hot spring water. The staff were extremely courteous, and their hospitality felt comfortable with just the right sense of distance. For dinner, we enjoyed a kaiseki course upgraded with dancing grilled live abalone and A5-grade beef; every dish highlighted the quality of its ingredients with refined seasoning, and we were thoroughly satisfied. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of dishes, making us feel pampered from the morning. This Accommodation is highly recommended for anyone who wants to relax quietly at an unhurried pace.

    I was satisfied.

The meal service in the Room was impeccable, and we were able to savor each dish at a relaxed pace. Everything was elegant and very carefully prepared. The bath was a good size, clean, and satisfying. It would have been even better with a sauna. The service throughout the property was excellent. However, it felt like there were slightly too many check-ins from the staff; a simple nod would have been enough, and being told “Have a nice bath” and “Please relax” every time we went to the bath felt a bit excessive. Overall, it was a relaxing day away from everyday life. We would like to visit again.

    I haven’t been there, though…

My mother, who turned 80 this year, visited with a longtime friend. She came home in high spirits and told me about her trip. She said the building was charming in a good way, or a bit old-fashioned in a bad way, but the cleaning throughout was thorough and she never felt it was dirty. Since we mentioned in advance that she has some difficulty walking, they even prepared a chair in the Room, and she felt their thoughtful attention to detail. She was especially pleased with how kind one of the younger attendants was to her. Of course, all of the staff—not just the attendants—provided warm, hospitable service, making it a truly satisfying trip. After hearing so many positive comments, I’d like to visit myself sometime soon. I look forward to staying with you then (haha).

An Accommodation known for its warm hospitality

We stayed to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The Room had been renovated in 2022, and everything was very clean and comfortable. Some Facility items, such as the refrigerator, felt a bit dated, but the cleaning was thorough and nothing bothered us. The open-air bath in the Room was especially relaxing—the hinoki cypress tub felt wonderful, and we enjoyed a long soak while being soothed by its fragrance. The Room was also spacious, and it left a strong impression on us that we could spend such a leisurely, luxurious time. Since it was for a birthday celebration, we also received a small thoughtful gesture, which made us feel truly warm inside. Thank you very much. If I had to mention one thing, considering the Accommodation Fee range, I felt that higher-grade amenities would have made our satisfaction even greater. Overall, it was a lovely Accommodation that I would recommend to anyone who wants to relax and stay slowly on a special occasion.

The hospitality was attentive, and the meals were excellent.

My mother and I stayed in the largest Room. While the building itself felt a bit aged, the Room was very clean. The female staff who assisted us were polite and friendly, which made us feel at ease. What we liked - The open-air bath in the Room was incredibly relaxing. - Since meals were served in the Room, we could take our time. - Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding—everything was delicious. - Even for light eaters, the overall portions felt easy to finish. - We informed them of ingredients we dislike in advance, and they kindly accommodated changes. - We appreciated that they handled setting up and putting away the futons. - The mattress was excellent—very comfortable. - The self-service coffee in the main building lobby was delicious. What we noticed - The second lobby was also a nice place to relax at a comfortable pace. The main building lobby had a surprisingly casual vibe; I thought it would feel more like a Ryokan if it had a more refined, tranquil atmosphere with a sense of grandeur. - The wooden flooring just inside the Room entrance made slight rattling sounds when walking on it, which caught my attention. This was our first stay here, but thanks to attentive service that’s rare these days and wonderful meals, we were able to truly unwind. Thank you very much.
