  Thank you again for staying with us.

  I stay here several times a year. This was my first time staying in the annex. It was quiet, had an open-air bath, and meals were served in the room—nothing to complain about. What impressed me most was the staff’s hospitality. In the morning, their cheerful greetings and the attentive service during meals were wonderful. I’ll be back.

  Ideal for travel with a baby

  We stayed here for a family trip. Our baby was at the crawling stage, so it was wonderful to have a tatami room where our child could play freely. Also, since meals were served in our room, we were able to enjoy them at a relaxed pace without worrying about others. The food was delicious! They kindly prepared baby bedding for us in advance, which made it possible for our child to take a nap. Meal preparation time happened to overlap with nap time, but they accommodated us while keeping the room dark—such thoughtful attention was truly appreciated. We were able to relax and feel at ease even with a baby, and it became a wonderful family trip. We would love to visit again as a family when our child is older!

  A bit disappointing.

  It felt like the dining time was a bit short. The staff seemed to be in a hurry as well, so our celebration ended up feeling rushed. It was a little disappointing.

  This was our second ...

  Our attendant was wonderful.

  During this stay, we chose in-room dining, and the hospitality of the female staff member who brought our meals left a particularly strong impression. Of course, the food was outstanding and the hot spring was wonderful, but when I look back on this trip, what stays with me most is her service. We were traveling with a child, and she spent a lot of time engaging with our little one. It didn’t feel like formal or scripted service; I could truly feel that she treated our child warmly as an individual, which made us very happy. When we asked for recommendations for nearby seafood restaurants, she suggested several options rather than just one. She also took into account that we were traveling with a child and that opening days vary by weekday. I was impressed that she wasn’t simply “someone who knows good places,” but someone who genuinely considered what would be best for us. I have experienced many kinds of service in different situations, but it is rare to meet someone who so naturally reads the guest’s needs and responds proactively like she did. This stay reminded me that no matter how wonderful the facilities may be, what ultimately makes you want to return is the hospitality of the people working there. I believe having someone like her is a great asset to Furuya Ryokan. I sincerely hope the ryokan will continue to value such excellent staff members. I am truly grateful to her for taking such wonderful care of us during our stay.

  We were soothed by the attentive hospitality, delicious cuisine, and hot springs.

  From the moment we arrived, the welcome was exceptionally courteous, and they even took a commemorative photo for us at the entrance. They also carried our luggage to the room in advance, and we truly appreciated their thoughtful attention to detail. This time we stayed in the W-type room in the main building—the largest room available. Because it was located very close to the front desk, getting around inside the property was minimal and very convenient. The suite had two rooms, which worked perfectly: one for dining and one as a relaxing living space. Since our room came with an open-air bath, it was wonderful to enjoy the hot spring whenever we liked without worrying about anyone else. The bath features 100% free-flowing natural hot spring water from “Seizaemon-no-Yu,” one of Atami’s Seven Hot Springs. It was so good that we soaked again and again. They also provided a bath set you can take to the public bath, and there were plenty of amenities—small touches throughout that made our stay especially comfortable. And then there were the meals we had been looking forward to. We upgraded both dinner and breakfast this time. Dinner offered an abundant course from aperitif through dessert. The dancing abalone grill was particularly impressive, and the filet meat was juicy, tender, and delicious. Every dish was delicate and refined; we enjoyed each item while following along with the menu list. There were many courses with generous portions—we left completely satisfied. For breakfast, we could choose either 8:00 or 8:30 start time. Centered around Kamatsuru dried fish, it felt like a luxurious morning meal. The gentle rice porridge and warm roasted green tea were especially comforting. We also loved that drinks in the refrigerator as well as coffee were complimentary. Sun Beach and Atami Ginza Shopping Street are nearby too, making it easy to take a stroll when we had some free time. With supermarkets and convenience stores close by as well, picking up anything extra was no trouble at all. The attendant who looked after us was extremely polite with such a calm, gracious manner that we felt relaxed throughout our stay. This is a wonderful ryokan that truly made us want to return again soon.

  We had a very relaxing stay.

  Everyone at the Ryokan was very attentive and provided excellent service, so I felt completely at ease during my stay.   Service so exceptional it stays with you

  What left the biggest impression was how outstanding the service was! The service was better than at The Ritz-Carlton and Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. I was extremely satisfied with both the amenities and the hospitality. - Two yukata robes and two bath towels were provided. I like to change into a different yukata when I sleep, so that made me happy. - Soft drinks in the Room refrigerator and post-bath drinks were free. - You can really feel their spirit of wanting to offer “something extra” tailored to each guest—babies, elderly guests, etc. - I was also surprised that they used different chopsticks for dinner and breakfast. Even though you dine in the same space, that alone makes it feel refreshed. The attendant in charge took care of everything, including serving all meals. They looked after us so attentively—like having a dedicated butler assigned to your Room at an overseas six-star Hotel. This time our attendant was a man in his 30s, and his pacing in conversation and distinctly Japanese, respectfully unobtrusive style of service felt very comfortable. I called with a question before our stay, and they were wonderful even then—I had high expectations before arriving. They replied quickly to email inquiries as well, rushed out to greet us at the gate at check-in, too. Maybe because we stayed on a weekday, we were able to relax even more. The large public bath wasn’t crowded, and it was nice not running into other guests very often. Also, the hot spring water quality is very soft and pleasant! It’s about a 3-minute walk to the beach, but since you have to go down a steep slope, it might be tough for elderly guests or anyone using a stroller. We only went out for an early-morning walk by the sea, but we had such a fulfilling holiday just staying at this Accommodation. Next time we’ll come with our dog.

  MARUMARU

  Wonderful Ryokan

  We visited Atami as a couple and stayed here for the first time. The Room we reserved had just been renovated, so it was very clean and beautiful. It was spacious, and the cleaning was thorough. The Atami Onsen water we were most looking forward to was excellent, as expected. The open-air bath in the Room had the perfect temperature and felt amazing. The Ryokan staff provided polite, calm service. From arrival to departure, they left a great impression. There were also several thoughtful services. First, we could request extra towels and yukata, which was very helpful since we used the Onsen multiple times. We could also request separate top-and-bottom pajamas; they were very comfortable, and I actually preferred them to the yukata. The meals we had been looking forward to were delicious for both dinner and breakfast. Upgrading the ingredients was definitely the right choice. If I had to point out one area for improvement, there were too many amenities in the Room, including many items we didn’t use, so it felt a bit wasteful. It would be nice if guests could choose what they need from a selection. Overall, we were extremely satisfied. We will definitely come again.

  An Onsen Ryokan I’d been curious about for a long time. It has the charm of a traditional Ryokan, yet feels clean and well kept with no sense of age. Even though our stay was short, we were very satisfied with both the meals and the Onsen, and left feeling refreshed. The hospitality was exactly as described—five stars. Unfortunately it rained, but since the bath is semi-open-air, we were able to enjoy an open-air bath in the rain as well. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

  We had heard this long-established Ryokan has many repeat guests, and it truly lived up to its reputation—an excellent Accommodation. Since we booked at the last minute, there were no Rooms with a private open-air bath available, but we still enjoyed our stay thoroughly even in a standard Room. While you can feel the history, the Rooms and shared areas have been well maintained and were very clean, and the service was satisfying in a way you would expect from a long-established Ryokan. The food was also extremely delicious and beyond reproach; however, for elderly guests the portions were a bit large. We originally wanted to choose the simmered golden eye snapper Plan, but the regular Plan was more than enough. We would be even happier if there were a smaller-portion Plan as well. You can’t really expect much of a view from the open-air bath due to its location, but the hot spring water is of very high quality. It’s been a while since we stopped by Atami, but if you’re coming to Atami, this is a wonderful long-established Accommodation that’s worth staying at least once.

  Enjoy Onsen to your heart’s content in a Room with an open-air bath. Savor our luxurious Furuya kaiseki cuisine to your complete satisfaction.

  It had been about a year and a half since my last stay at Furuya Ryokan. I was so impressed by the staff’s attentive service last time, and the cuisine was delicious; the Room and private open-air bath were also wonderful, so I chose to return again. This time as well, I selected a Room with an open-air bath, and for dinner I enjoyed the same Furuya kaiseki as before, featuring “abalone grilled live” and “Kagoshima beef tenderloin.” A beer after warming up in the Onsen is unbeatable—pure luxury that only an Onsen Ryokan can offer. Dinner was abundant and beautifully presented; every dish in the Furuya kaiseki was carefully prepared, and I was completely satisfied once again. Breakfast was also colorful with many dishes—everything was delicious, making it a hearty and enjoyable start to the day. With the Room, Onsen, cuisine, and service all excellent, it was another highly satisfying stay. This Accommodation is perfect when you want to enjoy a slightly luxurious Onsen trip in Atami. I had another wonderful time. I’d love to visit again when I’m back in Atami.

  Accommodation with Delicious Meals

  As this is a traditional, historic Ryokan, an attendant was assigned to our Room. They were very polite and attentive while keeping a comfortable distance, which made the stay relaxing. Dinner offered many dishes, each carefully prepared, and it was as delicious as its reputation suggests. There was also a wide selection of reasonably priced drinks, and the pacing of the meal service was excellent. The only drawbacks were that dinner starts only at 18:00 with no other time options, and since breakfast is also served in the Room, the futon is put away beforehand. Still, I felt this may be unavoidable in order to maintain the quality of the meals. The in-room bath doesn’t have a view, but fresh air comes in and the water warms you thoroughly—I used it many times. The Kamatsuru dried fish served at breakfast was so good that I bought plenty on my way home. The coffee available in the lounge was also delicious, and having free drinks in the refrigerator was a welcome service.

  A Heartwarming Stay at a Private Detached Accommodation Immersed in 200 Years of Onsen Culture

  I stayed in the detached villa building at the end of August. The Room had a private open-air bath with free-flowing hot spring water from the source, and the water quality was exceptional—I could really feel the high standards you’d expect from a long-established Ryokan with 200 years of history. Since one staff member is assigned to each Room, they carefully explained everything about the Room and the property, which made me feel at ease from the very start. When going from the detached villa to the large public bath, you need to pass through the main building once, but every staff member greeted me with a smile. Just walking around felt pleasant, and there were plenty of thoughtful touches such as displays, welcome drinks, and coffee service that made time pass comfortably. Dinner was seasonal kaiseki cuisine; everything was delicious and paired perfectly with beer and sake—so much so that I honestly felt glad I came to Atami just for this meal. The large public bath has a simple layout with an indoor bath and an open-air bath, but because it is free-flowing hot spring water from the source, there was none of that chlorine-like smell typical of recirculating systems. When I visited right after check-in, I was the only guest there and enjoyed a luxurious private-like experience. After bathing, chilled beer was provided as a complimentary service—a lovely gesture. Dinner was served in-room; since there were tables and chairs set up on tatami flooring, it was extremely comfortable without any strain from floor seating, and I could enjoy my meal at leisure with plenty of space on the table. Breakfast also had that classic Ryokan quality—delicious and energizing for the day ahead. This time I used the large public bath once and my in-room bath three times, making it an immensely satisfying stay. Regarding free-flowing hot spring water in the in-room bath, there was guidance asking guests to refrain from using more than necessary because Onsen are natural resources; I could sense their desire for guests to enjoy it for years to come while valuing these limited resources. There is also a system that allows you to stop it when not in use, and I deeply appreciated how this 200-year-old establishment is protecting its Onsen with both today and tomorrow in mind. It’s truly a Ryokan that makes me want to return wholeheartedly.

  Families with children can stay with peace of mind.

  We stayed with our child, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful attention to detail. They prepared futons for our child’s nap, and even provided a baby bouncer and a diaper trash bin, which made us feel comfortable and at ease throughout our stay. The meals were excellent, and we were very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. We also loved that the soft drinks, beer, and other beverages stocked in the refrigerator were complimentary. Drinks were available after bathing as well, and we felt that every small service was well taken care of. All staff members were polite and attentive, making our stay pleasant from start to finish. This is a wonderful Ryokan where families with children can stay with peace of mind.

  Thank You (Family Trip Stay)

  We booked three Rooms with open-air baths during a busy weekend. You kindly explained the layouts and orientations in detail, and I was very happy to be able to stay in a Room with an ocean view—the one I had hoped for. As before, the meals met our expectations: a wonderful variety of seasonal ingredients, beautifully presented and colorful, which we truly enjoyed. My husband, who has never been able to find bedding that suits him—too firm or too soft—was delighted that he didn’t wake up with any aches or pains. Since we spend about one-third of our lives sleeping, good bedding really matters. Your attentive service was just as we expected. The children were also very satisfied. Thank you very much.

  From the moment you arrive, experience the warm hospitality of a long-established Ryokan.

  I stayed at Furuya Ryokan in Atami to relax and enjoy the Onsen and the cuisine. What left the strongest impression throughout this stay was the spirit of hospitality felt in every detail. As soon as we arrived near the Ryokan gate, a staff member came to greet us right away, took our luggage, and guided us inside. The thoughtful care that begins even before you step through the entrance made us feel warmly welcomed from the very first moment. We stayed in the Main Building R-type. The Room is a spacious 68 m² Japanese-style layout (12.5 tatami + 4.5 tatami) with both an open-air bath fed directly from the source and an indoor bath. We could enjoy the Onsen as many times as we liked at any hour—soak, relax in the Room, then soak again. It was a Room where simply “spending time at a Ryokan” becomes part of the experience. During our stay, one attendant was assigned to our Room and kindly supported us with explanations and meal preparations. Their comfortable sense of distance also felt just right. For dinner, we enjoyed “Furuya Kaiseki with Kagoshima beef tenderloin” served in our Room. The standout was an A5-grade Kagoshima beef tenderloin teppanyaki, enjoyed with house-made daidai ponzu and sansho salt—an excellent dish. The steamed egg custard with eel and truffle was also memorable. We were also happy to see local Shizuoka/Izu ingredients used throughout, such as Izu kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), shiitake mushrooms from Izu Amagi, and Atami’s specialty daidai citrus. Another major highlight was being able to savor such an elaborate meal in private dining—relaxing at our own pace without worrying about anyone around us. Breakfast was also served in our Room. You can choose an 8:00 or 8:30 start time, and someone comes shortly before then to put away your futon bedding. We enjoyed a very Ryokan-style breakfast featuring carefully selected Atami dried fish chosen by the head chef, Furuya Ryokan’s special salted squid (shiokara), Onsen eggs steamed at “Seizaemon-yu,” sashimi, rice porridge, and more. At checkout we even received small souvenirs like a tenugui towel and disposable chopsticks—another thoughtful touch that became a fond memory. Of course the cuisine and source-fed open-air bath were wonderful, but above all else it was the consistent hospitality—from arrival to departure—that stayed with me most. It’s a lovely Ryokan I would absolutely want to stay at again when visiting Atami next time.

  We stayed here with ...

  We stayed here with our family and young children. The open-air bath attached to the Room and in-room dining were a huge help for us with kids. We also truly appreciated your thoughtful attention at all times, which made this a wonderful memory! The meals were delicious, the Room was clean, and the Onsen was very relaxing. All of the staff were incredibly kind, making this trip completely satisfying. We would love to return again, trying a different Room type and visiting in another season!

  A long-awaited trip—my parents were very satisfied.

  I stayed in a newly renovated Room commemorating the 220th anniversary of operations with my elderly parents (three of us in total). I had previously stayed in a standard guest room, but this one felt truly special. The Room featured auspicious Edo-period patterns, was spacious, and had an excellent layout that made it very comfortable. My father can no longer get up easily when sleeping on futons on tatami, so having beds while still enjoying a refined Japanese-style space was wonderful. Every kaiseki dish was delicious; in particular, the corn rice with tiny pieces of fried tofu was outstanding. I had been looking forward to the dried fish at breakfast, and it was expertly selected and perfectly grilled for us—allowing us to relax and be fully taken care of. We were told the rice was Gotemba-grown Koshihikari, and everything—from local amberjack sashimi to the salad—was extremely fresh. The carefully chosen water was also excellent, so I found myself drinking more than usual. I didn’t think my parents would be able to eat much anymore, but they finished both dinner and breakfast and were very happy. They said it was because the dishes were prepared with such care using flavorful dashi and fresh ingredients. For the bath, I secretly hoped for a hinoki tub, but once I tried it, I loved its depth and feel—and it was large enough for my tall father to stretch out comfortably. He also appreciated being able to enjoy Seizaemon-no-Yu’s natural hot spring source at any time. The large public bathhouse was close as well, so we enjoyed plenty of bathing time. I was also delighted that the amenities were POLA B.A. The staff member in charge of our Room kindly assisted with drinks, taxis, and many other details, making our stay very comfortable. I would love to visit again in another season. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

  An Accommodation with exceptional in-room dining and a superb open-air bath in the Room

  This Ryokan is highly recommended for anyone looking to relax in Atami and enjoy genuine hospitality. We stayed in the annex, and the most memorable feature was the private open-air Onsen bath in the Room. Being able to soak whenever we wanted without worrying about others felt truly luxurious. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room, which made it easy to enjoy meals in a calm, private setting. Dinner started at 18:00, and we were especially impressed by the beef fillet, dancing abalone, and rice cooked in a clay pot—everything was delicious. For breakfast, you can choose either 8:00 or 8:30; we enjoyed a classic Ryokan-style meal centered around grilled dried fish at a relaxed pace. The staff provided excellent service with thoughtful attention to detail, making our stay very comfortable.   All the meals were truly delicious! The splendid alfonsino was especially tasty, and I’m glad I added it. This is a traditional Accommodation, but it didn’t feel old at all—everything was spotless and wonderful. The bath was also great. I was able to relax at a leisurely pace and feel refreshed.   We were completely satisfied with everything!

  This Ryokan was the one we chose after a lot of thought for our annual Onsen trip with four women, and in the end, everyone was completely satisfied with our stay. First, before check-in, we were trying to take a commemorative photo near the entrance when a staff member immediately spoke to us and kindly took the picture for us. We’re not great at taking selfies, so we truly appreciated it. Check-in afterward was smooth, and we headed to our Room. The staff member in charge of our Room was also wonderful, providing attentive service while giving us just the right amount of space. And then came the meals—unbelievably outstanding. Not only delicious, but beautifully presented and perfectly balanced; there was probably quite a lot of food, yet we finished everything easily. We all agreed: “Let’s come back here again next year!” We have nothing but respect for all the staff who run everything so well. Thank you very much.

  [As Expected of a Long-Established Ryokan] I’ve never stayed at a Ryokan with food this delicious.

  I stayed here on a trip with my mother. We chose this Ryokan because we wanted to relax, enjoy delicious meals, and soak in the open-air bath in our Room. It was my first time staying at a long-established Ryokan said to have over 200 years of history, and it was beautifully renovated and very clean. Another big plus was that we could enjoy in-room dining at a higher table (not the typical low Ryokan table), which made it much more comfortable for my mother, who finds it difficult to sit for long periods. What I especially want to highlight is the quality of the Onsen water. The temperature was perfect—neither too hot nor too cold—just wonderfully relaxing. The food was also surprisingly delicious. With every dish, I kept thinking how amazing the dashi broth tasted, and I was impressed from start to finish. A small detail, but I also appreciated that all drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary (including beer and canned cocktails). The hospitality from the staff truly lived up to expectations, and we had a very happy, memorable time. This is an Accommodation I can confidently recommend—a wonderful place suitable for guests of all ages.

  An Accommodation We Hope You’ll Choose for Your Special Day

  I found this Ryokan while looking for a trip to give my boyfriend as a birthday present, also as a thank-you for his proposal. This was an important trip for me, and everything—from the hospitality to the Onsen, the food, and the Room—was wonderful. It was a truly heartwarming Ryokan. When I asked about bringing in wine as a surprise, they responded and accommodated my request promptly and with great care. I didn’t expect such thoughtful support, and I’m very grateful. In the end, he was delighted, and we were able to spend a lovely time together. While searching for a Ryokan, I saw many reviews praising the hospitality, and after staying here I completely understand why. The service from our attendant and all other staff was excellent, making this trip even more special. We also enjoyed seasonal flavors in the cuisine, and since it was served in our Room we could relax and enjoy it at our own pace. The words said to us at departure—“We look forward to welcoming you again in another season”—left a strong impression on me. We would love to visit again.

  A Short One-Night, Two-Day Summer Getaway

  We stayed as a family of three—a couple with an elementary school-aged child. From arrival to departure, the service was exceptionally high. In particular, I was amazed that when my child and I returned from the beach, they recognized us just from seeing us at the entrance—without us even introducing ourselves—and promptly came to our Room to greet us. I’d honestly like to give more than five stars. As for the Facility, unlike the time-limited private baths often found at other Hotels, we were able to enjoy natural free-flowing Onsen in the open-air bath attached to our Room without any hesitation as a family of three. Regarding meals, both the dinner course included in our Plan and optional dishes such as splendid alfonsino were outstanding. Breakfast also offered many small portions with great variety, and all of us—my wife, my child, and I—were very satisfied. The only reason I reduced my star rating slightly was that a bath towel we requested never arrived. It’s not a big issue, but given our high expectations for a luxury Ryokan…

  Satisfaction with the Food and Service

  The meals were generous in portion size and very satisfying. The grilled dancing abalone was delicious. All drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary, including alcohol, so we ended up having a few before dinner. There was also a refrigerator near the post-bath area with a wide variety of drinks, and the thoughtful attention to detail really stood out. The bath water was very rich in minerals, and even a short soak made us sweat plenty. It had excellent heat-retaining qualities.

  A cozy Onsen and hearty meals at Furuya Ryokan!

  This time, I stayed at Furuya Ryokan, a very popular place in Atami that I had been curious about for a long time. 1. Room & Amenities The room had a historic feel, yet it was thoroughly cleaned down to every detail, so I was able to stay comfortably. On the other hand, I found the air-conditioning a bit difficult to adjust. Even after changing the airflow direction, the air still blew directly onto my face while sleeping in bed, which bothered me slightly. There were also lovely amenity perks for women, which was great. However, there were no similar perks for men. Since sunscreen is often used in summer and needs to be removed properly, I would have been even happier if cleansing and skincare items were also provided for men. 2. Onsen & Public Bath The open-air bath in the room was incredibly relaxing, and being able to soak as many times as I wanted at my preferred timing felt truly luxurious. The public bath also had a calm atmosphere and was very soothing. The entire property was kept impeccably clean throughout, making it comfortable to use. 3. Meals Every dish at dinner was carefully prepared—beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) in particular was outstanding and left a strong impression. I was surprised by both the number of dishes and the generous portions—more than I expected. The corn rice at the end was also delicious, but I couldn’t finish it because I was so full. If there were an option to have it made into onigiri or something similar, I think I could have enjoyed it later as a late-night snack. Breakfast was also very lavish, and the two-color donburi we added on order was so good that I could honestly eat it every day. It made for an indulgent start to the day. 4. Hospitality & Service All staff members were kind and courteous throughout my stay, which made everything very pleasant. Their attentive care and heartfelt hospitality stood out to me—I really felt the warmth unique to a long-established Ryokan. 5. Overall The property had a calm atmosphere typical of an established Ryokan; while the lighting is somewhat subdued, that actually helped me relax even more. I spent consistently unhurried time here and am very satisfied overall. It’s a wonderful Accommodation where you can truly feel the charm of its history. There were a few minor points of concern, but they were far outweighed by how excellent the meals, Onsen experience, and service were—and when I visit Atami again, I would definitely love to return.

Even after celebrating its 220th anniversary, it continues to evolve while preserving tradition. Highlights include 100% natural Onsen water from its own source, “Seizaemon-no-Yu,” kaiseki cuisine served leisurely in your Room, and attentive hospitality tailored to each guest. [Recommended for] - Those who want to fully relax and enjoy the Onsen - Those seeking a refined stay-in retreat - Those who want an indulgent in-room dining experience [My stay] This time I stayed on the 220th Anniversary Plan. My Room was “R Main Building / 68 m² Japanese-style room (12.5 tatami + 4.5 tatami) with open-air bath fed by the natural hot spring source.” The Room was extremely spacious with no sense of confinement at all.   As always, absolutely fantastic!

  I’ve stayed here many times, but this is my first Review. What makes this Accommodation special isn’t the view or the location—it’s the Accommodation itself. The staff’s thoughtful care, the delicious food, and the overall comfort make me feel every time that I’m glad I stayed here. The historic building has been renovated, with modern Rooms and Facilities added to make it comfortable even for younger guests.
