Perfect
The guest room, Facility, meals, location, and above all the service—everything was so wonderful that I couldn’t find a single complaint. Our family’s first trip to Okinawa became an unforgettable, truly amazing memory. If the same Plan is available, we’d love to return again next year.

Is it because it’s peak season?
This was my first stay at Alivila, but it was far more disappointing than I expected. There are several reasons. When I asked to be moved—if available—to a Room on the opposite side across the corridor with a better ocean view, the front desk staff searched on the PC, asked me to wait, went to consult a supervisor (maybe), and then came back saying it was fully booked. However, even on the same floor, it did not look fully booked at all. The Room also had issues: the sink drain was clogged, mold in the bathroom was noticeable, and behind the sofa was covered in dust. There were six complimentary coffee and tea items provided, but only two sets of sugar and creamer—was it assumed we wouldn’t use them? Amenities such as toner were available at the front desk, but there is always a staff member standing right next to them, which makes them hard to pick up. I would like them placed in the Room for each guest. There are three restaurants. I used them for both breakfast and dinner, but there wasn’t much difference between them. Local specialties like sea grapes (only enough to be rolled into sushi) and mango (for an extra charge) were not freely available at the buffet. The selection of dishes was limited as well—almost the same menu every day—so with a Multiple Night Stay you start to get bored. The beach is right in front of you, but there’s nothing around nearby, so I wish the quality inside the Hotel had been better. Since it isn’t cheap either, I don’t think I will stay again next time..

Your First Stay at Alivila
We stayed for two nights during the Obon holiday. Overall, I think this is a very good Resort Hotel, although its age is noticeable in many areas. The staff were friendly and helpful, but there was one issue: when I asked a staff member near our Room where the laundry was, I was told there was no laundry in the building near our Room and that it was only in the building on the opposite side. However, the map indicated there should be one in our building, so I asked again to confirm and was told again that there wasn’t. When I checked with another staff member later, they informed me that there are actually two laundry locations. It may have been just that one person, but I would expect staff to be familiar with basic Facilities within the Accommodation.\nThat said, the food was excellent and we were able to enjoy a very satisfying holiday overall. Thank you very much.

A relaxing Hotel.
While the building and Room do show their age, this is a comfortable Hotel that somehow makes you feel at ease. If possible, it would be great to have a large public bath.

A genuine ocean-view Resort Hotel
[Facility] With over 30 years of history, the Spanish Colonial architecture creates a calm, resort-like atmosphere. There are several shops with a wide selection of items such as swimwear, so you can manage even if you arrive empty-handed. Nothing blocks the view between the ocean and the Hotel (no roads in between), and because it is far from major roads such as Route 58, it is a very quiet Hotel. It’s a wonderful location where you can enjoy a special “countryside” feel (in a good way) even on the main island. The pool is small, but it wasn’t an issue since we could also use Mercure Zanpa through reciprocal access. [Room] I was also interested in rooms facing the patio, but that would mean being visible from the opposite side as well, so we chose an oceanfront high-floor room for better sea views. I expected it to feel tight with four beds, but there was surprisingly plenty of space; even though it wasn’t a suite room, our family of four could relax comfortably in the Room. You can adjust the light by moving the center bar on the white sash door and using the wooden blinds. Since there are no drape curtains, the Room naturally becomes bright in the morning—personally, that natural feel was very pleasant. [Dining] The dinner buffet had great Okinawa soba broth flavor; Okinawan-style spare ribs (a just-right portion size—even manageable for women), squid tempura, and eel were especially delicious. Dessert options were limited, but the brown sugar pudding was outstanding (especially for those who like richer flavors). At breakfast buffet, besides classic pain au chocolat, their brown sugar bread was also tasty. The famous Alivila brown sugar butter along with jam and pineapple butter were available (also at dinner), and in particular the pineapple butter had an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. There was also a donut tower often seen at many Hotels recently, and French toast came not only plain but also with brown sugar flavor. Fruit selection at breakfast was plentiful too—I felt you could start your day energized with fresh-tasting natural flavors. [Other] This wasn’t my first time in Okinawa by any means, but simply walking around on Lobby level felt pleasant; laundry fees weren’t expensive either, making this a Hotel that makes you want to stay long-term. During peak season breakfast buffet lines were already quite long around 6:40 each morning, so depending on timing it’s something to watch out for (you can check via your Room TV or QR code). At Nirai Beach after low tide it becomes slightly shallow over a wide area, so even children can observe various fish—there’s hardly any need to go elsewhere specifically for snorkeling.

A Highly Satisfying Trip
We stayed as a group of six—my daughter’s family and us as a couple. We have visited Okinawa many times, both on family trips since our children were small and on trips with friends. This was our first time at Alivila in summer, and we were blessed with great weather all four days, making it an amazing stay. As one of Okinawa’s leading beaches, the water was crystal clear and dazzlingly beautiful, with an endless horizon… We were moved every day by the wonderful location. The Hotel was neither too large nor too small, the layout of the Facility areas was easy to navigate, and we enjoyed a comfortable stay. We would be happy if we could spend next summer at Alivila again.

A Stay After a Long Time
I have stayed here many times before. Last time, after the COVID-19 situation had eased, I stayed here and was shocked at how much everything had declined—staff quality, service quality, and food quality—to the point that I wondered if this was really Alivila. However, this time I chose to stay again because of the pool and the beautiful Nirai Beach; access to both the sea and the pool is smooth, and for children to enjoy themselves, Alivila still feels like the right choice. Unlike last time, I was happy to see that the service and food quality had improved, and it felt like the Alivila I remembered. I will stay again. Thank you very much.

It has a resort-like atmosphere.
I reserved a high-floor Ocean Patio Room. When staying at other Resort Hotels, I usually reserve an oceanfront Room, so I was worried about whether I would be satisfied with the view. However, the view was wonderful, and from the moment I arrived at the Room, it made me want to visit again. They also offer a high-floor Plan, which makes it easy to request what you want and is much appreciated. The Room and Facility may feel a bit dated, but in a good way—it feels like a Hotel that has aged well. My child is now old enough to want to play in the pool and seemed to have a great time. Luckily, the day we stayed coincided with fireworks, and they were beautiful. As for meals, they weren’t particularly luxurious for Hotel dining, but they were tasty enough and more than sufficient for families with children. If I had to mention anything, check-in took a little time (there were four staff members at reception, but even though we checked in around 5:00 p.m., we waited about 15–20 minutes). Also, breakfast venues all ended up having 30-minute waits; it would be great if some measures could be taken. Overall satisfaction was high, and if I have the chance, I would like to visit again.

Nostalgia Stay
I stayed for three nights from just before the typhoon in early June until after it passed. The Hotel still had the same nostalgic atmosphere as always. It felt like more than half of both the staff and guests were now international. The newer staff clearly worked very hard, and the experienced Japanese staff gave a steady sense of reassurance. All three mornings I had breakfast at Verde, my favorite. I like Verde for its variety and because there are many experienced staff members. However, on the second morning, an American man seated directly behind me was playing loud audio continuously from his PC and smartphone. When I briefly glanced back because it was obviously noisy, he started repeatedly shouting insults at me in English, which shocked me. I speak English, and it was an abnormal stream of meaningless profanity. For several minutes until my companion returned—and even afterward whenever we crossed paths inside the Hotel—he kept glaring at me and saying things. Unfortunately, I encountered a guest with no manners. The next morning, a Mandarin-speaking man started a video call on his phone after eating... It was disappointing to feel that the overall guest behavior had declined. I have already reported this to the Hotel. They apologized, but I still saw that person at Verde again the following morning. During the typhoon, the indoor pool was crowded with families with babies, and it made me wonder whether inconsiderate behavior is increasing among some guests. It may have been just bad timing, but I was disappointed by this change. The food at the Japanese restaurant was also disappointing—it felt like Japanese food you might eat abroad—though the service itself was good. I have shared these unfortunate facts, but this is fundamentally a beloved and important Hotel for me with many memories. I felt safe staying here during the typhoon, so overall I am glad I stayed. I hope it returns to having a calmer guest atmosphere like when I stayed several years ago.

No wonder so many guests return.
We stayed for two nights on the 3rd floor in a Superior Patio Twin with our child. I had seen Reviews saying you might run into guests from other Rooms on the balcony, so even though it was a lower floor, we chose a category with partitions—and it was an excellent choice. The balcony flooring showed its age, but the patio, pool, and ocean spread out right in front of us. Unlike higher floors, views outside the property are hidden, so I felt this Room let us experience the Alivila atmosphere the most. The Room itself is older, but it has a bathroom with a separate washing area and plenty of space, so we had no issues. There was also a power strip and an extra desk lamp provided, which made it easy to adjust lighting—surprisingly convenient. Since our child loves water slides, we mostly used Mercure’s pool (available through reciprocal access) and only looked at Alivila’s pool. Mercure’s changing rooms seemed like repurposed older facilities and felt dated; the club-like music was loud; and since it’s not beachfront either, if you simply want to enjoy the pool I think staying at Alivila and driving five minutes to use Mercure is best. The atmosphere at Alivila is overwhelmingly better. In summer there were lots of fun evening activities such as night pool hours, fireworks, and live performances. A Reservation is required, but if you book a breakfast-included Plan you can switch it to lunch at HanaHana. Our family can’t eat much breakfast and wanted to secure pool chairs early in the morning, so this option was very helpful. The staff were courteous as well—they even remembered my face when I came back. Also, when I contacted them because some foreign guests were using the pool after hours and asked them to address it, they came immediately and removed them promptly. That made me feel their service level is high. The only downside was that there happened to be a squall at night; afterward we were swarmed by mosquitoes whenever we stepped onto the balcony, so we couldn’t fully enjoy Alivila at night. Still, I’d love to visit again. It was quality that makes it easy to understand why there are so many repeat guests.

Decline seems unavoidable. Are we on the brink of survival?
I stay here every year, but I couldn’t deny the decline I felt last year. Putting the aging Facility aside, it’s hard to understand who the indoor pool service is for when it can only be used from 2:00 p.m. The Hotel shop is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I don’t use it that often, but I’d like you to imagine how tourists feel seeing a Hotel shop that’s always shut. Why come to a resort only to be shown a scene reminiscent of a deserted shuttered shopping street? The one exception is the breakfast buffet—one of the best in Okinawa—and the call system is very convenient. However, the limited à la carte dinner options are just as terrible as elsewhere. Over these past few years, Alivila seems to be losing its hospitality toward guests, and it reminds me of Guam’s decline in the past. This Hotel is at a critical turning point while it still has repeat guests.

For families with children, the mutual access with Mercure is a major draw.
We stayed for three nights. We chose this place because we wanted to focus on enjoying the beach. Overall, we were reasonably satisfied. I’m sharing the points below in case they help you decide. This is our impression as a family with an elementary-school-aged child, on a breakfast-and-dinner Plan, using taxis from the airport, and basically not leaving the Hotel. - There is a pool, but it may feel underwhelming for kids. The nearby Mercure (available for mutual use) makes up for that. It’s about 5 minutes away by taxi or rental car, so it’s easy to go. There is also a free shuttle bus from the afternoon. - We used the indoor pool included in our Plan once. It’s nice if the weather is bad or during colder seasons, but otherwise we probably wouldn’t use it much. - The sea is beautiful but feels somewhat narrow. When the tide goes out, you can walk quite far out. - The building and Room feel dated, but it didn’t bother us stylistically. Some exterior staining seems unavoidable. - You have dining options, but the buffet has limited variety. The taste was good overall; however, there aren’t many kid-friendly choices, so we had dinner at Mercure once instead. Mercure has plenty of options for children and offers all-you-can-drink alcohol, so using both depending on your needs works well. Being able to choose within Alivila is a strong point in my view. Breakfast was delicious and satisfying—especially at Verdemares (my favorite). The French toast was good too, but personally I liked the curry best. - The balcony in our Room was small and fairly visible from other Rooms, so it didn’t feel very relaxing to sit out there for long periods. Since the building is U-shaped, impressions will likely vary greatly depending on where your Room is located. Because you can enjoy two hotels as part of your stay, both adults and children should be reasonably satisfied overall. There are also places nearby where you can try hands-on craft experiences; if you’re staying 2–3 nights (or around three), there’s enough to enjoy without getting bored.

Lower-priced plans are assigned to rooms farther away, and the view may be less impressive.
This was the best Hotel for enjoying the ocean. I joined the reef trail at Nirai Beach and had the experience of seeing and even catching tropical fish in the shallow water at low tide. It was very convenient that bath towels were available by the pool. Bantacafe, within walking distance from the Hotel, also had an incredible view. The downside was that breakfast was extremely crowded and it was hard to eat, and dinner also requires a Reservation. In hindsight, I should have chosen a Plan with meals included. For breakfast, it was convenient to buy a light meal at the shop and switch to lunch instead. During a Multiple Night Stay, there were days when toilet paper and tissues were not replenished, which was inconvenient. With a cheaper Plan, you may be placed in buildings far from the restaurant, front desk, or beach. You also won’t see much of the ocean from your Room. If you’re going anyway, it may be better to book a more expensive Room. If you don’t mind walking, it’s good value. The Room is very spacious—much more comfortable than city Hotels—and relaxing to stay in. It’s disappointing that there is no large public bath.

Great-value Hotel
• We used “Sawa” for breakfast, but compared with two years ago, the variety and quality of the food felt slightly lower. • We could not find an accessible restroom inside the building, which made accessibility somewhat inconvenient. • It’s nice that the Accessible Room is priced the same as a standard room, but you shouldn’t expect much of a view. • The staff service was neither particularly good nor bad—overall average. • The location is convenient, with Banta Cafe within walking distance. • Parking is charged per stay and is relatively reasonable. • Considering the Accommodation Fee, overall value for money is good, and it’s a Hotel we would like to use again.

This is a vacation home.
I used to make Reservations through the official website every year, but this time I stayed via IKYU. As a result, the service was excellent no matter which way I booked. Diamond members receive early check-in and late check-out benefits. Being able to stay an extra two hours felt truly valuable. The complimentary half bottle of champagne was Moët & Chandon—an unexpectedly delightful surprise. The Room and the view were absolutely wonderful. At Alivila, time seems to pass in a relaxed way that you don’t find at other hotels—probably because the Hotel is not overly large and feels just right. Nirai Beach is a rare beach where you can see plenty of fish both from above and even with beginner-level snorkeling. The staff’s smiles are also very welcoming. It’s a fantastic Hotel where I can stay each year as if it were my own vacation home.

The staff always greet us with a smile, and we are truly happy that everyone consistently serves guests with such warmth. A relaxing time soothed by the sounds of nature and beautiful scenery
It wasn’t a Room with a patio view; instead, it was a Room facing the courtyard with the (non-white) chapel and hammocks, with an unobstructed view of the ocean straight ahead. In the morning, I woke up to birdsong; when I opened the window, I could hear the waves. I spent relaxing, non-routine time strolling around the beach right in front of me and around the Hotel, and swimming as well. The Hotel staff seemed to include more people who appeared to be foreign nationals over the past six months, but their Japanese was excellent and communication was not an issue. I also really enjoyed using the pool at Mercure Zampa Misaki Hotel through the shared-use arrangement. I hope this shared-use arrangement will continue in the future. Another point I like is that it’s calm and relaxing outside of the summer season. One disappointment was that I only found out after returning home that there had been live guitar performances by the pool during my stay. I wish they had informed me at check-in—even just on a printed sheet—about any events taking place during my stay. Last time I found this information on the in-house digital guide, but this time I couldn’t find it on either the website or the digital guide, which was disappointing.

The food was delicious.
Overall, it was a very good Hotel. The food was delicious—especially the Belmare breakfast buffet. HanaHana felt more kid-friendly, and our child enjoyed it. However, communication with the foreign staff at the front desk wasn’t very smooth, and in the end a Japanese staff member helped us, which was a bit disappointing. Since you can access the Hotel directly from the beach, we were able to relax. It reminded me of when I visited Guam.

An Unforgettable Escape
This was my fourth stay. As the Hotel marks its 32nd anniversary, it holds special memories for me—I first stayed here 32 years ago. The signature Alivila scent helps me escape everyday life, and the view from a patio-side Room always lifts my spirits. Parasols and chairs are free for guests, and breakfast is truly delicious. Best of all, the bathroom and toilet are separate (I don’t like unit baths). I spent three days relaxing on the beach, and for lunch I went to GALA Aoi Umi.

The finest hospitality that truly moved me from the heart
This stay was truly a wonderful experience. I could feel the spirit of hospitality throughout the Hotel, and I was moved many times during my visit. I enjoyed not only breakfast but also lunch and dinner at the restaurants in the Hotel, and every venue offered delicious food with impeccable service. Each restaurant had its own unique character, yet everywhere I received warm and attentive hospitality, which left a lasting impression. The guest room was clean and comfortable, and thanks to the beautiful views and calm atmosphere, I was able to relax and forget about everyday life. The staff’s thoughtful attention to detail and natural smiles are what make this Hotel so special. This is one of the most satisfying Hotels I have ever stayed at, and when I visit Okinawa, I will definitely stay here again. Thank you very much for such an amazing stay.

This is a highly satisfying Facility, so please maintain it.
Alivila is starting to show its age, and I wouldn’t call it a luxury Hotel. However, the location is truly outstanding. The white sands of Nirai Beach are breathtaking. Age doesn’t matter here—and even if the Hotel were rebuilt, the view would remain. Many of the staff are very dedicated, and you can enjoy a pleasant stay from arrival to checkout. Breakfast is also delicious; I especially like Sawa. Even at the buffet where breakfast can be switched to lunch, having sushi available is appreciated. I’d like to stay a few times a year, so I’m already considering my next visit. (My main Hotel is elsewhere.) There was an online survey from the Hotel, so for once I wrote about a major complaint. Both my wife and I had the same issue at different times, so I described it in detail. Normally, given what was written, you would expect some kind of apology or follow-up—but there was nothing. It may be unavoidable, but not knowing whether it was ignored or simply not seen becomes a new frustration. Wasn’t that survey meant to address such issues? I will stay again, and I hope for improvements as well. I’m still a fan—nothing has changed.

Beloved Alivila
My third stay. This time, I spent two nights at another Hotel before staying two nights at Alivila. The previous Hotel had great Reviews, so I tried it, but it just wasn’t for me. The moment I arrived at Alivila on day three and stood at the entrance, I strongly felt, “In Okinawa, it has to be Alivila—I'm back.” Right in front is the beach, the high ceilings create an open and airy feel, and all the staff are cheerful and kind. Their responses are clear and pleasant, and the food is delicious. Everything is outstanding. It was right in the middle of the rainy season this time, and it rained on the first day, but my stay still felt bright and refreshing. I’ll definitely be back again.
