    Bedding

    Hello, I had a satisfying stay, but I would like to suggest an improvement. The bedding provided was for two people on a double bed. If possible, changing the mattress from 10cm to around 20cm thick would make it more comfortable, even if it's not on a bed.

    I gave a perfect score for the first time.

    I stayed at the accommodation last weekend. Despite the heavy rain a week ago that caused damage to the surrounding area, and likely affected this facility as well, I was impressed that there was no sign of it within the premises. The accommodation is well-maintained, with facilities and services updated to meet modern standards. Even amidst labor shortages and rising costs, this ryokan manages to strike a good balance in its operations, which reflects its quality. Having stayed at numerous ryokans and hotels both domestically and internationally, my spouse and I concluded that this place ranks number one in terms of satisfaction—not just for its price but overall experience. Even without an open-air bath in our room, we were fully satisfied. The dinner was of exceptionally high quality. The slightly smaller portions were perfect for us as we are middle-aged. Personally, I found the atmosphere inside after dinner to be wonderful—I regret not bringing my smartphone to capture it! If I had to point out one minor issue, it would be the distance to the large public bathhouse. While it wasn’t a problem on a sunny day like ours, it might be challenging on rainy days due to the walk required. As we left with plans for another visit to enjoy their onsen again someday, we realized we need to keep our legs strong for future trips! Overall, it was an incredibly satisfying stay—well worth flying out just for this experience!

    Expectations were high, and the Room and bath were excellent, but the food...

    I booked my stay with high expectations based on reviews from IKYU, other travel accommodation platforms, and YouTube channels that provide unique accommodation evaluations. The room was beautifully renovated, and the private open-air bath in the guest room was very relaxing. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed the ryokan's signature open-air baths and large communal baths. However, having to go outside to reach the main bathhouse facility felt slightly inconvenient—especially during summer when it was hot and there were many insects; I imagine it would be cold in winter. As for the meals, both dinner and breakfast were decent overall in terms of composition. However, I was disappointed by the lingering fishy smell in the tilefish soup dish and grilled grunt fish served at dinner. Next time, I plan to visit during a season other than summer.

    I was very satisfied.

    From the moment of arrival, the balance between attentive service when needed and a more relaxed approach when not was excellent. The cuisine was outstanding, with flavors and presentation that conveyed the care and thoughtfulness of the chef. I hope to visit again in a different season.

    Accommodation with Enjoyable Bath Facilities

    We stayed as a family and had a wonderful time. The Onsen was incredibly relaxing, especially the outdoor bath surrounded by nature. We enjoyed the lush green summer scenery and the refreshing atmosphere of the river, which provided a truly rejuvenating experience for both body and mind. Having read about this place in magazines, we were very excited to visit. One memorable aspect was the large number of international guests. Many of the staff members were also from overseas, spoke excellent Japanese, and provided attentive service that made us feel at ease. It was heartwarming to see how Japan's Onsen culture is appreciated across borders. However, one small suggestion would be to pay more attention to cleaning and maintaining areas like pathways leading to the Onsen, as there were spider webs and fallen leaves due to the rich natural surroundings. This could enhance comfort during our stay even further. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that left us with great memories. Thank you very much!

    I had a very relaxing time.

    Dream Accommodation

    Finally, I was able to stay at the dream-like Ishihara-so. This time, we made a reservation for the desired Tsubaki room as part of a celebratory trip for my husband. The view was stunning, and the elegant and spacious atmosphere left us deeply impressed. The hot water in this room flows directly from the source without exposure to air before filling the bath. The quality of the spring water was far superior compared to that of the large public baths or private baths. Although it rained during our stay, we enjoyed soaking so much that our bodies felt completely relaxed. Both breakfast and dinner were exceptional, with every dish being delicious. Despite feeling full, it was amazing that there was no heaviness in our stomachs. When needed, heartfelt service and support were readily available; otherwise, we were left alone to enjoy our time freely. This perfect balance between attentiveness and privacy made us feel very comfortable and allowed us to spend precious family moments without any worries. During our stay, we made another reservation for an autumn visit next time! We are already looking forward to it. Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff!

    Ishiharaso We have stayed at various places, but this might be the one we've revisited the most in over 10 years. This time, we stayed in April and had an exceptional experience! It's rare to feel this way, so I couldn't help but write a review! Even with many inbound guests, it's impressive how they continue to evolve while maintaining this atmosphere. Much appreciated!     Completely satisfied after a long time!

    Discovered the joy of Onsen in my late 40s and have been visiting various Onsen for 30 years. From Sukayu Onsen after climbing Mount Hakkoda, to Tsuru no Yu Onsen with its open-air bath where snowmelt drips, and Chojukan while listening to the calls of nightingales—there have been many satisfying Onsens across the whole country. However, at Ishiharaso this time, I was thoroughly impressed by the open-air bath and family bath overlooking a clear stream where kingfishers, swallows, and herons flew by. Additionally, I am grateful for the kind assistance when I accidentally left something behind at the accommodation.

    Relax and lose track of time in a serene flow.

    A very lovely and tranquil accommodation. Every dish was delicious, and above all, the rice and the view were exceptional at this wonderful mountain lodge. I lost count of how many times I enjoyed the bath... Everyone we met was kind, and I would love to visit again.

    It was a supreme accommodation.

    We stayed for the first time on April 29. Surrounded by the gentle murmur of a clear stream flowing through large rocks, fresh green trees sprouting, and the tranquil sound of nightingales, we experienced unparalleled serenity. The accommodation impressed us with its thoughtful design, furnishings, quality and quantity of cuisine, presentation timing, tableware, sake selection, as well as the approach to the onsen bath. The attentive care and excellent service provided by the staff conveyed their dedication to every detail. It became a perfect day for my wife and me that left us deeply satisfied. We look forward to visiting again.

    Healing Hot Springs

    This was an accommodation I had always wanted to visit. I stayed here during my trip back to Kagoshima. The staff's attentive service, the seasonal dishes beautifully presented in carefully selected tableware, and the thoughtfully designed interiors were all exceptional, allowing me to enjoy a truly extraordinary experience. The hot spring water was particularly wonderful; soaking in the bath while listening to the sound of the stream made me feel refreshed and motivated to keep going—and determined to return again!     It was disappointing...

    It was disappointing to see fallen leaves and dirt left on the outdoor tables and chairs in the lounge area, as well as cobwebs in the atmospheric corridors. Every detail visible to guests reflects the true management attitude, which should be addressed at the level of those responsible for inspections.

    A Blissful Accommodation with Abundant Hot Springs

    The hot spring water flowing into the large public bath, open-air bath, and room bath was truly healing. The room with a stunning riverside view, attentive hospitality and service, and meals made with local ingredients were all perfect. Among the many accommodations I have stayed at in Japan, this is my number one choice. I look forward to staying for a multiple night stay again in autumn.

    A Hidden Retreat for Adults

    Thank you for your hospitality. Everything, including the Room, bath, meals, and service, was perfect. The portion of the meals was just right. It is also conveniently close to the airport, making it easy to access. This Ryokan is very quiet and perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The open-air bath in the Room was excellent as well.

    We stayed here for a family trip. We had reserved a Japanese-style room without beds, but after contacting the staff in advance about my mother’s difficulty with her legs, they kindly prepared a bed for her. Thank you so much for accommodating us even though the room was not originally designed to have beds. Additionally, they provided a chair at the entrance of the room to assist my mother when changing shoes, which showed great attention to detail and care. The hospitality was impeccable, from sharing small stories about the dishes during meals to guiding us to spots where cherry blossoms were blooming. Each dish was crafted with care and artistry, allowing us to experience Kagoshima's essence through both taste and presentation. The story about how soup dishes used to be considered main courses truly resonated when we tasted it—it felt like an authentic expression of culinary passion. The onsen was built directly at its source point, offering an incredible open-air bath view as well as clean and spacious indoor baths that provided ultimate relaxation. The carbonated spring water had a faint iron scent and left our bodies warm long after bathing—a unique experience indeed. From the onsen to the cuisine and hospitality, everything was top-notch. It’s no surprise that reservations are hard to secure here. We would love to visit again!

    The bath, meals, and service were impressive. However, there was one point of concern.

    This is a high-quality Ryokan. This was my second stay as I was satisfied with my previous visit, and I had another pleasant experience. One concern is the "odor." It is unclear if it is caused by the individual purification tank, but there was an unpleasant smell (like urine) in the small path leading from the room to the outdoor bath and large communal bath, which was disappointing. I understand that addressing odors can be a challenging issue. Additionally, it was unfortunate that staff referred to architect Yoshifumi Nakamura as "Koubun" Nakamura during their explanation. There is a private bath designed by Mr. Nakamura available for use.

    Accommodation you'd want to stay at again

    Good Points: The staff's hospitality was excellent (even the linen delivery staff greeted warmly). The meals were elaborate and delicious. The room was clean, and the refrigerator was well-stocked. Disappointing Points: Solo travelers are limited to specific rooms and cannot choose a riverside view. It takes a bit of walking to reach the bath. I had a relaxing stay and would love to visit this accommodation again.

    We stayed as a family of four (adults). Thank you for a relaxing and wonderful time. The quality of the room space, meals, Onsen, and service is high, but not extravagant. It felt like there was a beauty and elegance in the thoughtful simplicity.

    Both dinner and breakfast were accompanied by detailed explanations of the dishes and ingredients by the staff, who also answered our questions politely. Of course, the carefully selected Onsen was wonderful, and exploring the premises was also enjoyable. I would like to try the spring quality of the new guest rooms, so I will visit again.

    The atmosphere and food were excellent.

    We stayed at the property for our annual year-end couple's trip. It was a wonderful hotel that lived up to its reputation. The food, in particular, allowed us to enjoy the ingredients of Kagoshima. The onsen was also wonderful, but unfortunately, due to our late arrival, we couldn't fully enjoy the scenery. The private open-air bath was nice, but the morning bath in the open-air bath attached to the room was the best. Next time, we plan to check in a little earlier to enjoy the onsen while it's still light.

    The free-flowing hot spring water is excellent.

    I was impressed by the wonderful scenery and the abundant flow of the hot spring water. The resting area after the bath had lovely furnishings, and I felt consideration everywhere. It was my second visit, but I will definitely go again.

    I was satisfied with everything.

    I stayed in a Western-style room on the second floor of the stone warehouse in late October. The modern room had a wonderful location, and the open-air bath in the room was very relaxing. The art inside the property and the interior of the dining area had a sophisticated Japanese-modern impression. Both dinner and breakfast were creative Japanese cuisine with a focus on local production for local consumption, and they were excellent. The person in charge during the meal was of Asian descent, but their courteous service left a very good impression. The original shochu I received as a souvenir was also very delicious after returning home. It is a property I definitely want to visit again.

    The meals, Onsen, and service were all excellent.

    The spring quality is mild with a scent of iron. When you soak in it, you can feel the amazing effects as it thoroughly relieves fatigue. The comfort of the sleepwear and the bedding was excellent, allowing for a refreshing wake-up the next morning. This is a property that those who are tired should definitely experience. Additionally, the dishes, carefully prepared using seasonal ingredients, were very delicious. Enjoying them in a special space with rare sake made me want to return each season. The timing of the meal service was just right, and I was impressed by the heartfelt and pleasant hospitality of all the staff. Definitely a repeat.
