    The Best Accommodation Ever

Great Facility, great food, and great service—above all, the Onsen was outstanding. I’ve stayed at many Accommodations, and this was the best among them. It’s far from Kansai, but it’s an Accommodation I’d like to visit again just for the stay.

    Thank you very much.

From the Accommodation’s architecture to the bath and cuisine, every detail reflected excellent taste, allowing us to enjoy an elegant and special time of relaxation surrounded by art. As there seem to be various Room types available, we would love to return and stay in a different Room next time. Thank you very much.

The Onsen, meals, and staff service were excellent.

The Onsen temperature was just right, and I enjoyed it many times. The meals were also delicious. For elderly guests, the portions were too large to finish. Everything was satisfying.

    Wonderful Accommodation

We were satisfied with everything—the service, Facility, Room, and Onsen. In particular, the meal at Ishikura and the Onsen were outstanding. We will definitely return.

This is a wonderful Accommodation, just as rumored.

This was my first stay here. As the Reviews said, the food was simple yet truly delicious, and I enjoyed it very much. Many Accommodations offer lavish meals, but this felt nourishing—exactly what I’d been craving. I’d love to visit again in a different season. There are three hot spring sources, each with its own unique qualities, which was a real treat for an Onsen lover like me. The most enjoyable was the open-air mixed-gender bath right by the river—it felt wonderfully open and refreshing. They also lent us bathing garments, so I could bathe without feeling self-conscious. Thank you very much.

    The meals are excellent.

The meals were excellent! Seasonal touches and beautiful tableware, especially the hassun course, were outstanding. A few disappointments: there were no bathrobes, and the samue loungewear was not very comfortable. Access to the Onsen Facility requires using stairs, which can be difficult. The hot spring water itself was superb, and I was surprised by how abundant it was. I felt truly relaxed at this Accommodation surrounded by nature.

    Sophisticated Accommodation

The Onsen, cuisine, tableware, Room, Facility, and the staff’s hospitality were all wonderful, and we enjoyed a truly blissful stay. The only disappointment was that there was no take-home amenity set. For women, this is also one of the pleasures that reflects an Accommodation’s sense of style. Other than that, it was a flawless and lovely Accommodation—we would definitely like to return.

An Accommodation that warmly embraces milestone trips with delicious cuisine, soothing hot springs, and attentive staff.

My son has secured a job, and we stayed here to celebrate before he moved out. You offered us quiet words of congratulations, and even an unexpected gift… Your warm thoughtfulness made this trip even more unforgettable. Although the weather was unfortunately rainy, the fresh greenery looked beautifully lush and serene, allowing us to feel nature even more deeply in the calm. It was our first time trying foraged-herb cuisine for dinner, and we were continually surprised and moved by the combinations of ingredients and flavors—such as dishes using giant butterbur. Thanks to having breakfast prepared early for us, we were able to make our first flight of the day. Not only was the food wonderful, but the “fresh hot spring water” was so pleasant we didn’t want to leave—and above all, your attentive hospitality truly soothed us. My sons were also very satisfied, saying it was “the most comfortable Accommodation we’ve ever stayed at.” Next time, we’d like to visit Kagoshima again in a different season just to come back to Ishiharaso. Thank you very much for such a memorable and wonderful stay.

    The best in-room bath ever.

In late April, we flew in from Kansai with high expectations. There wasn’t a flight at a convenient time, so we arrived early. After eating an ekiben at Kareigawa Station and doing a bit of sightseeing, we headed to the Ryokan—but although check-in was at 2:00 p.m., we arrived at 1:00 p.m. We had been up since early morning and it was raining, so we hoped to wait either at the front desk or in our car. However, there was no staff member at the entrance. A cleaner eventually noticed us, but told us that because check-in was at 2:00 p.m., we could not enter the building. They also seemed bothered about us parking there, so we said we would kill time elsewhere and searched on Google Maps. (Since we didn’t know the area, we would have appreciated some local guidance.) We returned after 2:00 p.m.—but again, no one came out to greet us. Wondering if it was okay to park on our own, we parked anyway. Only then did someone notice us and say, “Since it’s raining, please pull up closer to the entrance.” We moved the car again, and it seemed that staff would then park it for us. Check-in appears to be done while enjoying tea and sweets at a table behind the front desk area, but perhaps they were busy (we only saw two other groups besides ourselves). It felt like we were kept waiting. Being turned away for arriving early—and then not being greeted properly when returning—made us wonder if someone would say something about it. Unfortunately, nothing was mentioned; it felt as though it never happened. Even when issues occur, good follow-up can leave a positive impression… At this point both of us were quite discouraged. Then an experienced male staff member (perhaps a manager?) escorted us to our Room with warm smiles and careful explanations of the Accommodation’s design and Room amenities. That helped immensely—we felt relieved and thought, “This feels like a truly high-end Ryokan.” The Rooms (Ruri / Murasaki) were beautifully appointed—simply outstanding—and you can feel an architect’s attention to detail throughout. The water quality in the semi-open-air bath in our Room was the best I’ve ever experienced. (However, I did notice people across the river from another Ryokan.) There are blinds provided, but I felt larger ones might be better. The mixed-gender open-air bath(s), private open-air bath(s), and large public bath were all wonderful—the sound of the river flowing nearby is incredibly soothing. As for dinner: Reviews seem divided online, but for us it was delicious. Rather than focusing on lavish luxury ingredients alone, each dish felt carefully prepared with respect for every ingredient—food that genuinely makes your body feel happy. Breakfast impressed me most: sardines—which I usually hate—were served as the main dish. One bite in and I thought… amazing. Not bitter or fishy—truly delicious. To the gentleman who guided us to our Room—and to the head chef—thank you very much. We will visit again.

    We’ll be back!

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. The staff’s hospitality and dedication were outstanding, and we had a truly heartwarming stay. The Onsen lived up to its reputation as “a beauty serum you can soak in”—my wife was delighted, saying the water was wonderful and her skin felt noticeably smoother. Even after getting out, we stayed warm for hours; it felt like the warmth lasted much longer than at other hot springs. I was genuinely impressed by the effort to provide the Onsen as close to the source as possible. The meals were also exceptional—crafted by a chef with experience at Miyamaso—and every dish was delicious and memorable. We enjoyed a variety of seasonal mountain vegetables such as tara-no-me (angelica shoots) and fuki (butterbur), all of which were wonderful and truly tasted like spring. The riverside open-air bath also had great atmosphere, allowing us to spend a very mindful, peaceful time. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much for such a wonderful stay.

Completely satisfied with my long-awaited stay at the Accommodation.

Ever since I found an article about this Accommodation a few years ago, I kept checking my available dates against the vacancy information, and at last I was able to make a Reservation and visit! The wonderful Room, the attentive hospitality, the beautiful and delicious meals featuring local and seasonal ingredients, and the many thoughtfully designed Onsen baths (the open-air bath is the best) made for a truly joyful and happy time. Even with how hard it is to secure a Reservation—and despite the distance—I would love to return. Next time, I plan to make the most of every minute from 15:00 check-in to 11:00 check-out! Thank you very much for taking such great care of us.

    From the moment we a...

From the moment we arrived by car at the entrance, the staff’s guidance felt natural, and everything—from being shown to the lobby, to being served tea, to moving on to our room—was seamless. There was no awkward waiting or sense of rush; right after arrival, we were immediately eased into a relaxed rhythm. We stayed in a guest room created by renovating a detached stone storehouse. In contrast to its solid exterior, the interior had a practical layout, was meticulously cleaned, and felt very fresh—overall, the fundamental quality of the room was excellent. The Onsen is 100% free-flowing from the source with no added water and no heating, with an abundant flow. The water has a faint sulfur scent and a gentle softness that feels wonderfully soothing. In addition to the large public bath, we enjoyed two types of private baths as well as our in-room open-air bath many times. (We declined mixed bathing.) The meals were not just made with great ingredients; each dish clearly reflected significant effort and creativity. Even compared with other renowned Ryokan we have stayed at before, the level of refinement in flavor was exceptionally high. The service was also impeccable—starting with a young man from Nepal who assisted us (I regret I’ve forgotten his name), everyone was warm and natural without ever feeling overbearing. This is a Ryokan I had long wanted to try when visiting this area, and it turned out to be absolutely the right choice—a highly accomplished Onsen Accommodation overall.

Cuisine that lets you experience the local culture!

This is a Ryokan I had long wanted to stay at, and it truly lived up to its reputation—both the cuisine and the service were outstanding. The Room was a standard type with two rooms on the river side. The Facility seems old, but it is kept very clean and well maintained, so I was able to relax comfortably. The large public bath is in an annex, and the hot spring water quality was excellent; I felt pleasantly warm even after bathing. Both dinner and breakfast were wonderful, each dish carefully prepared. Dinner featured the Kisaragi (February) menu: the appetizer course was themed “Risshun Daikichi,” beautifully presented with butterbur sprouts in tofu dressing, sardines simmered with ume plum, and roasted soybeans. The sashimi included bigfin reef squid and mackerel—both were the best squid and mackerel sashimi I have ever had. The final ehomaki roll contained a generous piece of local conger eel, and it was something I would love to eat again. All of the staff—from check-in and escorting us to our Room to service at dinner and breakfast—were pleasant, courteous, and made us feel very welcome. I could really sense their pride in working here. I would love to stay again in a different season.

    I’m very satisfied.

It was one of the Accommodations I had wanted to stay at for a long time. I was very satisfied with the hospitality, which exceeded my expectations, and the Japanese-Western style room with an open-air bath. The Onsen contained natural carbonation and felt wonderful. I would like to stay again and relax.

    Enjoy to the fullest!!!

We stayed at Ishiharaso, my mother’s favorite place, to celebrate a special occasion. It was my first time, and even though my expectations were high from what my mother had told me in advance, the hospitality, Onsen, meals, and Room all exceeded them. The meals in particular were carefully prepared down to the smallest details, and everything was truly delicious. Chatting with the staff was also a pleasure—I left feeling both full and happy. Each Onsen had its own unique water quality and atmosphere; I especially loved the open-air bath in our Room and used it four times. My skin didn’t feel dry at all—if anything, it felt more moisturized, which really impressed me. I’d love to visit again in a different season.

This is the first night of my stay.

This is an Onsen I’ve wanted to visit for a long time ever since I heard a TV interview with the bath attendant years ago. Because it’s far away, I finally made it there the year before last when I had more time, and this was my second visit. It was a Multiple Night Stay, but since I changed Rooms, it seems I can post another review here—so I’m sharing photos of the first night’s meal and more. As we plan to return again, I have two requests for next time: 1) It would be great if there were a women-only place to change into bathing wear right next to the riverside open-air bath. 2) After the bath, I would have loved an ice pop in the lounge area that felt more unique and true to Kirishima. We enjoyed the roasted marshmallows every night. Thank you for a wonderful stay with a great Onsen, delicious food, and such kind staff.

I was very satisfied again this time.

We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay again this time. We were in different Rooms on the first and second nights, but that was also nice. Since we didn’t have much luggage, changing Rooms and getting to stay in different ones is part of the fun. The free-flowing Onsen from the source was wonderful as always, the food was delicious, and all the staff were very kind. We had a relaxing and comfortable stay. We’d love to visit again!

    Enjoy Onsen

The high reviews on platforms like YouTube and the glowing feedback led us to finally stay at Ishiharaso. As rumored, it is a highly satisfying accommodation with exceptional hospitality from the staff and delightful meals for both dinner and breakfast. The carefully curated onsen experience was particularly impressive, with satisfaction guaranteed in every option: private room baths, large public baths, open-air baths, and reserved private baths. During our 1-night stay, we enjoyed the onsen a total of 9 times! Next time, we plan to book a multiple night stay to fully immerse ourselves in the relaxing onsen experience all day long.

    The bath was excellent.

Thank you very much for your hospitality. It was a wonderful Ryokan, but the pathway to the open-air bath felt cold in a yukata. Having a warm long coat available would have made it even better.

    The best accommodation ever!

It was absolutely amazing! The Room, service, and cuisine were all flawless—truly the best experience ever. From the very first dish, the food captivated us and left us in awe until the end. The Room was spotless, with excellent Facilities, presentation, views, and even a private bath—all perfect. At first, we hesitated because of the price, but it was worth every penny. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories!

An elegant and sophisticated traditional Ryokan

Stayed one night in November on a weekend with a friend. Due to the late timing of the reservation, we could only book the most affordable mountain-side room at "Ai." I didn't have high expectations, but I was first amazed by the grandeur of the entrance to our room. The space was generously designed, with a large stone floor leading to an elevated area connecting to the room. On the right side, there was a shelf and a single flower vase—absolutely beautiful... The room itself had two sections and was very spacious, with refined and elegant furnishings. Even down to the amenities, attention to detail could be felt, which left me slightly moved. (Although the toilet was an older model, it featured TOTO's Neorest.) The service from staff members was also excellent. Even at ryokans priced in this range (around 100,000 yen), it's common nowadays to feel stressed by awkward interactions from temporary or new staff members; however, I felt truly reassured by their experienced team. From pre-arrival inquiries and taxi arrangements to guiding us through our room and introducing meals—their professional service made all aspects seamless. Thank you so much for everything! Of course, both the onsen and meals were impeccable as well. However, there were two points that concerned me: First is that there were no power outlets in the bedroom area. To charge my iPhone, I had to use three extension cords connected from an outlet under the dressing table—but later realized it wasn’t charging properly at night! I didn’t want to call reception in panic over such matters late at night; some prior measures or explanations would have been appreciated. Second is that there were no samue provided unless rented for 1,000 yen upon request at reception. While differences in amenities or services based on room rank are understandable—it didn’t sit well considering we flew round-trip from Tokyo just for this stay (with additional taxi costs of 3,000 yen each way). Charging extra for samue simply because we stayed in an affordable room seemed unfair. Perhaps offering samue free-of-charge while making yukata rental optional instead might be worth considering? That said—the comfort of futons exceeded expectations; having separate pajamas provided as well added great value! Additionally noteworthy were aspects like restaurant design & architecture—truly remarkable overall—and I'd love another visit someday. In conclusion: This accommodation lived up fully up its reputation—a truly outstanding experience overall! Thank you very much again!

    Excellent

We visited this time with some concern due to the aftermath of the Kirishima disaster. There were sections of roads that were impassable, reflecting the severity of the flooding. Fortunately, Ishiharaso remained as it always is, which gave us peace of mind. We enjoyed the same wonderful hot springs and meals as always, providing us with ultimate relaxation. Thank you very much. We look forward to visiting again.

    Accommodation with Charging Facilities

I chose this accommodation after watching YouTube. The meals were thoroughly enjoyable with detailed explanations of the ingredients. But above all, the baths were exceptional. There was an open-air bath in our room, but we also used the large public bath, private open-air bath, and mixed-gender open-air bath. We could relax and bathe at just the right temperature while listening to the sound of the flowing river. This accommodation allows you to spend your time without worrying about others or any disturbances from other guests. My husband and I would love to visit again!

    My Favorite Ryokan

This was my first visit to Ishiharaso. Having stayed at many renowned luxury Ryokans, this is by far the best I have experienced. The hospitality, cuisine, tableware, interior design—everything is simply outstanding and genuine, with a soul in every detail. Recently, even among luxury Ryokans, many places seem to offer similar dishes or interiors that only appear stylish on the surface. However, Ishiharaso stands apart. The quality of ingredients is on another level. I’ve become a huge fan and will definitely return again!

    Bedding

Hello, I had a satisfying stay, but I would like to suggest an improvement. The bedding provided was for two people on a double bed. If possible, changing the mattress from 10cm to around 20cm thick would make it more comfortable, even if it's not on a bed.
