    It was a long-held dream come true.

    It was during the Obon holidays, but I finally managed to get a Reservation at Kawasemi. With high hopes for “Why not come and enjoy a meal with an overnight stay?”, I went—and it exceeded every expectation. For detailed ratings, please refer to other guests’ reviews. I had a truly blissful time beyond anything I imagined. This has become my new No. 1 Accommodation overall, and next time I’d love to visit in the season when the garden’s autumn leaves are at their best.

    I came here to enjoy delicious food—this is my second visit. It was definitely wonderful, and I’d love to return in another season. The fruit in this area is also outstanding; I bought some seasonal souvenirs and even received a special treat, which made me truly happy. I will visit again.

    A Gourmet Accommodation with Warm Hospitality You'll Want to Return to Again and Again

    This Accommodation is one of Japan’s finest, with outstanding cuisine and hospitality. I have stayed multiple times, and there is no other place where I find myself wondering—right at checkout—when I can return next. A dedicated attendant looks after you in your Room, and they provide genuine hospitality that feels rare in Japan today—for example, placing bath towels to fill gaps in the bedding for my daughter who was Child Sharing Existing Bedding. There are a few minor concerns, such as more guests spending long periods in the lounge area leading to drinks running out, or some people coming to take photos around the annex, but even taking that into account, I believe this is a truly exceptional Accommodation.

    This time.

    We visited as a couple to celebrate my 77th birthday. The refined, spotless setting and delicious food have kept us coming back—this was about our sixth stay. Until now, we have always left completely satisfied, but this time, to be honest, we were disappointed. Compared with previous visits, the timing of the service felt off and somewhat careless, and the rice was too soft. Each point may seem minor on its own, but because the rates are not cheap, it left us dissatisfied. That said, dinner was just as delicious as ever.

    An Accommodation for Food Lovers

    Both dinner and breakfast are lavish, spectacular meals. You can enjoy outstanding dishes that feel like the very best from all over Japan. We recommend arriving at the Accommodation very hungry. It was a shame I was so full that I could hardly eat the late-night rice balls.

    Everything about this Accommodation was truly wonderful.

    I often stay at Fufu properties and Hoshino Resorts, but this Accommodation truly felt like a distinguished long-established inn—exceptional in its overall design, hospitality, cuisine, service, and open-air baths. I felt it was well worth the price and would love to stay again. Because meals are served in the Room, you can enjoy them quietly without worrying about others. The number of dishes, seasoning, tableware—everything was outstanding, and it had been a long time since I felt such satisfaction beyond my expectations. I would definitely like to visit again in a different season. Above all, the in-room open-air bath while looking out over the beautiful garden is wonderful, and the rock bath in the large public bath is superb.

    We were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace.

    I was able to make a Reservation for the day after my birthday and looked forward to my stay. The hospitality was excellent, making it a wonderful anniversary. The meals were delicious, and I truly enjoyed the drinks as well. Since I’m not fond of buffet-style dining or noisy settings, this Accommodation is ideal when it comes to both dinner and breakfast. However, perhaps because both Rooms faced the water (and due to the season), the frogs became quite loud at night; rather than feeling atmospheric, it felt like noise, and I couldn’t sleep well. Next time, I’m considering choosing a Sukiya-style guest Room on the second floor.

    This was a return visit, and the Accommodation was wonderful as always. The cuisine, the attentive service from the staff, and the Facility were all excellent, allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay. We would love to visit again.

    Thank you very much.

    We stayed as a couple on June 19. The Accommodation was extremely comfortable, and we were amazed by the variety and deliciousness of the meals. We are also very grateful to our attendant (Ms. M), who took great care of us throughout our stay. She responded promptly to our requests and even casual conversation without showing the slightest displeasure. We will definitely make another Reservation and visit again next time.

    Exquisite Cuisine in an Unforgettable Setting

    Both the cuisine and hospitality were excellent. I previously stayed in a second-floor Room, but this time I was on the first floor, so the view from the window and the birdsong were wonderful. The proprietress and staff were both attentive, and I was very satisfied.

    Unfortunately.

    It was disappointing. In particular, there were many steps inside the building, and I injured my ankle. As for the meals, despite the number of breakfast items, each one lacked impact. Overall, is it a long-established inn resting on its reputation, or is it striving to improve? Complacency is not an option.

    Worried!?

    I’d been wanting to visit for a long time, but after seeing some harsh comments in videos by a YouTuber I often watch, I hesitated a bit. Still, impressions vary from person to person, so I decided to stay here. From the warm welcome to the beautifully maintained garden, the building, and the Room, all of my concerns disappeared. My first impression was very good. The open-air bath in the Room was also excellent. As for the open-air bath at the large public bath, there were some fallen leaves—cleaned as much as possible and within an acceptable level. I also enjoyed the sauna 충분히. The post-bath lounge had canned beer and local juices, so it felt like they had the basics covered. However, at this price point, I feel that drinks in the Room should be free or that there should be a wider selection of drinks in the lounge. It would also be nice if coffee were available freely 24 hours a day or if there were a Nespresso machine in the Room. Finally, about the meals—I was looking forward to them most—but both breakfast and dinner felt underwhelming for me. The portions were sufficient, but what about quality? Neither the taste nor presentation moved me or impressed me. Simply put, there wasn’t anything that made me think “I want just a little more” or “I want to eat this again someday.” Considering how much renovation and upkeep go into maintaining both building and garden grounds، it’s understandable that rates are at this level—but focusing on meals alone، value for money feels poor. Normally it seems one attendant is assigned per Room، but our attendant was covering two Rooms this time، which made her seem busy and hard to approach—and that may have contributed to less lively conversation during meals. This may be unnecessary to mention، but I’m also slightly concerned about what lies ahead: many of male staff who focus on welcoming guests are older، and continuing in-Room dining will require enough staffing going forward.

    A culinary Onsen Accommodation with beautiful fresh greenery.

    A wide variety of delicious dishes were beautifully presented on seasonal tableware, making the meal a delight for the eyes as well. However, for guests of our age, we felt that slightly smaller portions would have allowed us to enjoy everything to the very end. Both the Room and shared areas were very clean, and we were truly able to relax. If we may ask for one more thing, it would be wonderful if the bath in the Room were also an Onsen—though we know that may be difficult. Thank you very much for your exceptional hospitality.

    It was very relaxing.

    The garden was very charming, and the open-air bath in the Room was wonderful. The in-Room meals were carefully prepared, and everything was delicious. The only drawback was that the TV in the Room was small. It would have been even better if there had been a bed, even a low one.

    It’s quite good, but I think there’s still some room for improvement.

    We stayed as a family of three: my wife, our 2-year-old child, and me. First, regarding the Ryokan’s facilities, everything—from the choice of furniture to the overall upkeep—shows excellent taste and is impeccably maintained. There is nothing to complain about. Just stepping into the Ryokan makes you feel as if you’ve entered a calm, different world, and it instantly lifts your spirits. The cuisine is also outstanding. Without a doubt, this is the best Ryokan we have ever stayed at. That said, I would appreciate it if the following points could be improved before our next visit: 1) The water temperature in the open-air bath attached to the Room was lukewarm. We stayed in early March, but it was too cool to warm up properly. 2) The temperature of the low-temperature sauna in the large public bath is too low. While I understand the appeal of a low-temperature sauna, this felt excessively cool. Personally, I would prefer it to be set to a standard sauna temperature rather than being a low-temperature sauna. 3) The Room is too dry. With the heating on, the air became very dry and uncomfortable. There is a humidifier available, but it is integrated with an air purifier and its humidifying power was weak, so it did not help much. I would appreciate having a standalone unit such as an evaporative (pot-type) humidifier. There’s no question that this is an exceptional Accommodation, so we plan to visit again—next time with my parents as well.

    The food was outstanding.

    I had heard that the food at this Ryokan was excellent, but to be honest, I assumed it might just come down to personal taste. However, in conclusion, it was a wonderful stay—the quality, creativity, and overall perfection of the cuisine truly stood out above all the many food-focused Accommodations I have stayed at so far. I would love to visit again in a different season.

    The best Accommodation in decades

    The meals were especially outstanding. Because the cuisine focuses on bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients, those looking for bold, punchy tastes may find it a bit understated. However, I could really feel an incredible dedication to making the most of each ingredient. It had been a long time since I’d had food that made me so glad I ate it. Even if you stayed at other tourist destinations for the same price, I don’t think you’d experience this level of Facility and service.

    Beyond expectations! It was a wonderful accommodation.

    This is the accommodation I had always wanted to visit when going to Fukushima. I was able to visit in mid-January during the substitute holidays for New Year's. The result? It was absolutely worth it! I truly had an experience that made me want to return again. I reserved a room with an open-air bath, and luckily, it snowed the day before my stay, allowing me to enjoy a charming snowy view from the bath. The room was spacious, clean, and perfect for a relaxing getaway. The meals were something I had been looking forward to, and we were able to enjoy them at our own pace in our room. The dishes featured unique ingredients I'd never tried before—each one delightful. It became clear that staying here just for the food is entirely justified. Although it was fully booked on the day of my stay, both the rooms and lobby were spacious enough that we hardly encountered other guests during our time there. I look forward to visiting again in another season to enjoy the natural beauty of the garden and seasonal cuisine. Thank you for providing such a wonderful experience!

    Truly comfortable

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay at the end of the year. The cuisine was outstanding, deserving a 7-star rating. The creative dishes unique to this place and ingredients I had never encountered before left a lasting impression. They not only inspired ideas for future home cooking but also seemed to positively influence my professional sense of creativity. Access from Kansai was challenging, and indeed it was difficult (on the way back, my flight from Fukushima Airport was almost canceled due to heavy fog. Since there are no nearby business hotels around Fukushima Airport, cancellations at night can be quite troublesome). However, despite that, I felt so comfortable that I would love to visit again in a few months. Thank you very much!

    This trip was about taking it slow and visiting places with beautiful autumn leaves. One place that had caught my attention for a while was this accommodation. Finally, I managed to secure a reservation. The accommodation was exceptional, with great onsen and rooms, but the highlight was undoubtedly the cuisine—delicacies you can only enjoy here. Even the water had an elevated quality that made me feel it would be a waste not to savor every taste carefully. Although the accommodation is slightly away from the onsen town, it provided a quiet and relaxing retreat where I could unwind peacefully. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    Kawasemi was a wonderful accommodation. The baths were especially great. Both the indoor and outdoor baths were very clean, and I used them three times. Towels were provided in the large bath area, so I could go to the bath empty-handed. As it is known as a culinary-focused accommodation, the meals were also extremely delicious. However, the portions were too large for me. While I could have left some food, I couldn't bring myself to waste such carefully prepared dishes. In the end, I forced myself to finish everything, so if the portions had been slightly smaller, I think I could have enjoyed every bite until the end—this was my only regret. The futon was fluffy and comfortable, allowing me to sleep well. It was a satisfying accommodation experience overall. Thank you very much!

    Rice preferences

    The dinner portions were a bit too large for us. It would have been better if we had requested to reduce about three dishes in advance. Also, the rice was cooked with more moisture than we prefer, which did not suit our taste. We personally believe that rice is the essence of Japanese cuisine. We were fully satisfied with the breakfast, which mainly consisted of fresh vegetables. However, since the room required us to lay out and fold up futons ourselves, it felt a bit inconvenient. It seems that rooms with beds in modern-style ryokans tend to get booked first.

    Authentic Japanese cuisine with humble and warm hospitality

    This time, I was looking for an accommodation where I could enjoy matsutake mushrooms, and upon my wife's recommendation, we visited "Oyado Kawasemi" after a long time. Usually, I make reservations directly with the accommodation, but this place is always fully booked and hard to secure a room. Fortunately, I found availability on IKYU.com and was finally able to stay there. It turned out to be a wonderful experience. This year has been a poor harvest for matsutake mushrooms, so we were informed in advance that "it might not be possible to prepare them." However, on the day of our visit, the owner went above and beyond to secure some excellent matsutake mushrooms for us. We are truly grateful. From dobin-mushi (matsutake mushroom soup) to charcoal-grilled dishes—each dish had perfect aroma, heat control, and seasoning balance. It made me realize once again that "the quality of ingredients depends on the chef's skill." In fact, even aside from the matsutake dishes, every item on the menu was outstanding; we were moved by how beautifully everything flowed together as part of one cohesive meal. This is Japanese cuisine at its finest—classic yet perfected without unnecessary embellishments. Above all else, what stood out most was the atmosphere of the accommodation and their exceptional hospitality. The attendant who took care of us was young but incredibly attentive with great humor; conversations with her were enjoyable and heartwarming while maintaining respect for the inn's tranquility and elegance—a perfect example of “subtle yet impeccable service.” The facility itself is so clean you can walk barefoot comfortably; every corner is well-maintained with thoughtful attention given throughout each space. In quiet mornings filled only by birdsong or serene hallways where staff seem invisible until needed—they appear just at precisely right moments—creating an unparalleled sense comfort. For this trip focused mainly around food & hot springs experience—we chose one most affordable room option available—and still found it surprisingly comfortable allowing complete relaxation during our stay! Truly unforgettable moments spent here indeed making us eager return another season soon! While some may say “not much has changed over years,” personally believe such consistency represents true charm behind Oyado Kawasemi’s appeal: staying faithful traditional values while subtly evolving forward quietly showcasing remarkable mastery refinement overall ambiance offered guests alike!

    Excellent Ryokan

    This is truly a wonderful Ryokan, and since my visit 20 years ago, I have stayed here several times in different seasons. The cuisine is the highlight of my stay, and every time I am amazed by its excellence. Besides the meals, the Onsen is incredibly relaxing, and the service provided by everyone at the Ryokan is so comforting that I find myself planning my next visit as soon as I leave.     Autumn-inspired cuisine. A serene ambiance. Perfect for an adult getaway. The ease of access between the room and the large public bath allowed us to enjoy multiple visits to the bath. Having only 12 rooms felt truly luxurious. While I had always wanted to try the cuisine at Onyado Kawasemi, it made me eager to explore other dishes as well. An exceptional accommodation. Additionally, the IKYU Diamond Member benefits were outstanding! Thank you very much. If I may make a small request, having car charging facilities would be greatly appreciated.     Gourmet Accommodation

    This was our second visit since staying here last year. Last time, we stayed in a room on the second floor, but this time we chose a first-floor room with a private open-air bath. The room was called "Kaidou" and had an additional space, making it spacious. From the room, we could overlook the tea house and garden—it was a beautiful room. Since there were no beds, it would be nice to have something like a "nap mat" to lie down on after enjoying the bath. The public Onsen was also clean and well-maintained. In the post-bath lounge, there were mini canned beers that weren’t available during our previous visit—they were delicious! As for dinner, everything from the carefully selected dishes to other offerings was delicious and plentiful—we thoroughly enjoyed it! We eat quickly but appreciated how perfectly timed each dish was served. The draft beer and monaka dessert offered as Diamond Member benefits were also delightful touches. One downside was that the Onsen water temperature felt too hot; even in our private open-air bath in the room, we added cold water before entering. While I believe some water is already added to adjust temperatures, slightly cooler water would allow for more relaxed soaking. Room amenities were sufficient overall; however, having items like a stirring stick for adjusting bathwater temperature or an in-room safe would be convenient additions. Overall satisfaction remains high—I’d love to visit again during another season!
