    A Unique Experience

    Having stayed at various Ryokans and Hotels over the years, I’ve experienced a wide range of prices and quality. Some exceeded expectations, some were as expected, and others fell short. Each stay feels like a new challenge to enjoy. This time, I planned a trip to Nara with the goal of staying at the iconic Nara Hotel—a dream of mine for over 40 years. Despite being exhausted from sightseeing, I woke up feeling completely refreshed—a unique experience for me. The moment I entered the room, it felt familiar and comforting in an indescribable way. The stay was worth every penny and more. As someone who eats lightly, buffets tend to suit me better; however, the restaurant’s spacious atmosphere with its high ceilings was absolutely wonderful. While buffets may not be my preference here, everything else made up for it. I’ve decided that my next trip to Nara will also include staying at Nara Hotel—it has become part of my life’s routine now. Thank you to all the staff for such an incredible experience!

    The breakfast was delicious.

    Good Points: - The breakfast was delicious. - Waking up to see deer under the autumn-colored maple trees made for a refreshing morning. Points of Concern: - Some bath amenities were provided, but the lids were difficult to open for those with less strength, such as women. - Using the shower in the bathtub was challenging as there was nothing to hold onto, posing a risk of falling for elderly guests.

    Total Solar Eclipse at a Classic Nara Hotel for Your Husband

    Apologies for the delayed feedback as I was busy visiting the Osaka-Kansai Expo. This was my third stay at the Nara Hotel Main Building with my daughter, but it was my husband's first time, so we chose the best room. We stayed in Room 250 on the second floor, "Tenpyo." On Monday, September 8, 2025, we were able to witness a total lunar eclipse live from our room around 2:30 AM. Thank you very much for this wonderful experience. The Kasuga full-course dinner was absolutely delicious. We look forward to staying again after the hotel's renovation. Thank you in advance!

    Nara Hotel offers a tranquil atmosphere.

    This time, I stayed in the new building. The gentleman who guided me to the room was very thorough in his explanation, which was great. Starting next January, the accommodation will be closed for renovations, and he mentioned, "The new building is no longer living up to its name, so we will be renewing it this time." Indeed, when I stayed in the main building three years ago, the rooms had been renovated with modern facilities and were very clean. However, there were no issues with the room in the new building either; it was spacious enough and offered a view of deer relaxing from the balcony. Upon arrival at the hotel, I first enjoyed coffee and cake at their café—it’s always a delightful experience here. For dinner this time, instead of dining at the main dining area like last visit, I chose Japanese cuisine at "Hanagiku." It had a cozy and calm atmosphere with delicious dishes. As a Diamond Member benefit, I appreciated being able to check out late until 12 PM and receiving coffee vouchers. There was also an AR campaign where you could bring out virtual deer on your smartphone within the facility; however, it didn’t work well for me so I couldn’t take good photos. Whenever visiting Nara again in future trips—I’d definitely want to stay here! Looking forward eagerly towards post-renovation next year!

    Traditional Hospitality

    I have stayed here several times, and every time I feel like staying again at this Hotel. It seemed that the early booking discount did not affect the meal quality.

    The staff were kind.

    I went for an early morning walk on the second day and asked if the side entrance would be open. A staff member kindly came outside to guide me. When I accidentally locked myself out, they handled it flexibly. On my way back, I requested a taxi, and they thoughtfully compared whether the shuttle bus or taxi would be faster. Their kindness during my trip made me very satisfied. On the first day, perhaps due to being busy, another group of staff seemed distracted while answering my questions and didn’t provide very attentive service, which left me feeling a bit disappointed at first. However, in the end, I was able to leave with a pleasant impression. We stayed here for our 40th wedding anniversary using the "Gourmet French Cuisine Journey Plan." The food was truly top-notch in taste. However, perhaps due to how busy it was, the meal felt slightly drawn-out without any special follow-up from staff or advice on drinks. While the cuisine itself was exceptional in quality, it was disappointing that the service did not match that level of excellence—though we understand we are not their most important guests. Even so, thanks to excellent service from staff upon departure, we were able to leave feeling happy overall!

    Experienced the tradition of Nara Hotel.

    My daughter wanted to stay in the main building, so although it was my first time, we visited together. While the bathroom and washroom have been renovated, the guest room seems to retain its original furniture and design. My daughter, who loves art and architecture, was thrilled and said it was perfect. Both the exterior and interior were magnificent, truly deserving of being called a Kansai guesthouse. The hospitality of the staff was excellent, but I also felt that other guests had a deep affection for this hotel. While modern hotels have their own appeal, classic accommodations like this one offer a unique escape from everyday life—a rare charm indeed. This is a hotel I would love to visit again when I return to Nara. Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality!

    See you again next year!

    As with last year, our stay was planned to coincide with the "Shosoin Exhibition." We stayed in a room on the first floor of the new building, and in the morning, we saw deer outside the balcony! Some were resting, eating, or leisurely strolling around—at one point, there were as many as nine. The staff remembered us and kindly greeted us, which made us very happy. It was a multiple night stay, and on the second evening, we enjoyed a different dinner menu. Both meals were delicious and delightful. We look forward to visiting again next year!

    A Hotel I Would Love to Visit Again

    During my trip to Nara with my mother, we chose to stay at the Nara Hotel, a place we had always wanted to experience. We carefully selected our room and reserved the Main Building Tradition Room, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The classic design was exactly what we loved, and as a delightful surprise, the window offered a stunning view of autumn foliage—something we hadn't specifically chosen for but greatly appreciated. The room was impeccably clean and well-maintained. From arrival to departure, every aspect of the service was outstanding, making our stay incredibly comfortable. Having been slightly disappointed by another classic hotel in the past, I believe this exceptional experience is thanks to the staff's daily dedication and efforts. This time, considering my mother's health condition, we decided not to go sightseeing; however, we plan to visit Nara again soon for her wish to see Toshodaiji Temple and Akishinodera Temple. When that time comes, I would love to stay at the newly renovated Nara Hotel once more!

    Lack of information was disappointing.

    Arrived early in the evening by taxi. Staff were assisting customers from other taxis and approaching those arriving by private cars, but no one greeted or guided us. Even if they were busy with other guests, a simple "Welcome" or "This way, please" would have been appreciated. While it seems some visitors may not be using the accommodation or restaurant, arriving by taxi strongly suggests we are likely guests. What kind of operation is this? It was very disappointing right from the start. At check-in, there was no mention of the service exclusive to Deluxe Room stays (welcome drink and snack set at the bar), nor were we given any tickets for it. Thinking that showing our room key at the bar might suffice, we went directly to the bar only to be told that tickets were required. We returned to our room to check under the breakfast vouchers but found nothing and had to go back down to request them at reception. The staff member (not the one who handled our check-in) apologized, but again, this left a poor impression. The building and rooms are excellent; there are no complaints about meals or staff overall. However, due to these initial issues upon arrival and check-in, unfortunately, it negatively impacted our entire experience.

    The Prestigious Nara Hotel

    I made a reservation online to stay at Nara Hotel before its renewal. Initially, I booked a room in the new building, but just before my stay, I called the hotel directly and was able to change to a room in the old building. After check-in, the hotel staff guided me to my room, and I was glad I chose the old building! I could truly feel the atmosphere of this historic hotel with over 100 years of history. If I may add a suggestion, having something like a Goemon bath or large public bath in part of the hotel instead of unit baths might enhance the ancient romantic ambiance even more!

    First Time in Nara

    It was my first visit to Nara, and the location was perfect for efficiently exploring places like Kofuku-ji, Todai-ji, and Kasuga Taisha on foot. I received a map of the facility and enjoyed various tours within the premises while appreciating its classic elegance. The main building was impressively clean without showing its age, though I heard it will close next year for renovations. It happened to be our 32nd wedding anniversary, and I would love to visit again in the future.

    I have been thinking about revisiting since my stay in spring. I was planning to visit during the same time next year, but upon learning that the Hotel will be closed for renovations starting early next year, I decided to plan my trip around the Shosoin Exhibition, which I had saved as a treat for my later years. The warm hospitality of the staff and enjoyable conversations with other guests made this visit truly delightful. I was thrilled to finally try both the French toast and tea porridge—absolutely satisfying! At the bar, I requested a cocktail that I had enjoyed during spring, and they kindly recreated it for me. Please consider adding it to your regular menu! If only I could have stayed one more night—I would have loved to spend a day relaxing in my Room. However, there are still so many places left for me to explore, so such indulgent moments may need to wait a little longer. I deeply appreciate how my extraordinary experience in this serene and elegant space is built upon the daily efforts of all staff members—from those at reception to housekeeping. I hope someday I'll get a chance to join one of those temple/shrine tours recommended by that dashing gentleman on staff (perhaps someone in charge?). My journey through Nara wouldn’t be complete without Nara Hotel!

    Experience an extraordinary stay at a luxurious classic Hotel.

    From parking guidance to reception, luggage delivery to the Room, and explanations—every detail was orchestrated by first-class staff. This was a comfortable place where you could feel like the star of the stage. The high ceilings of the old building provided a sense of openness and grandeur. I enjoyed a relaxing time in the Room. Dinner was served in a classic dining room with authentic flavors that were not overly elaborate but paired perfectly with champagne for an exquisite experience. After dinner, while admiring the furnishings around me, I received subtle explanations about the Hotel's history, which added to my enjoyment. This level of service is truly unique to a first-class Hotel and made for an exceptional experience. Special thanks to the staff who kindly explained about the Kannon statue placed in one corner. Thanks to all of this Hotel's professional staff, I had an unforgettable time here. This short one-night stay convinced me that this is a one-of-a-kind luxury Hotel embodying 100 years of Japanese elegance at its finest.

    I was extremely satisfied.

    The staff were all kind and made my stay very pleasant. The shuttle service driver was excellent both when boarding at Nara Station and when getting off at the Hotel. Early check-in, maps provided during bicycle rental, explanations about the facilities—everything was well-prepared. Breakfast was truly classic Hotel quality, enjoyed at a pleasant window-side seat. The drink service in the lounge was much appreciated during the hot summer. I was also surprised by how delicious the Ronnefeldt tea in the tearoom was. I would definitely love to stay at this Hotel again!

    Discreet service

    The French cuisine was exquisite. The next morning, I had porridge for breakfast, which felt light and balanced. On the second morning, I enjoyed a Western-style breakfast while leisurely watching deer in the garden. The service timing was impeccable. Next time, I would love to stay in a Room with a clawfoot bathtub.

    I stayed at the accommodation before the large-scale renovations began. I stayed in the main building, and the red carpet and high-ceilinged corridors reminded me of the hallways of my university from 50 years ago. The public spaces, including decorative elements, ceilings, and lighting, as well as the guest rooms themselves, exude a sense of history. However, the bathroom and toilet areas have been updated with modern facilities, making them very comfortable. The staff were polite yet approachable with a friendly Kansai touch, ensuring a pleasant stay. The breakfast featuring tea porridge was uniquely Nara. For dinner, I chose Japanese cuisine; they thoughtfully assisted in selecting sake to pair with their meticulously prepared dishes. This hotel truly befits its role as Nara's welcoming residence for guests. I'm looking forward to seeing how it transforms after the renovations are complete.

    The service was disappointing.

    The response of the staff at the front desk and surrounding area was disappointing. After checking out, I immediately called my companion and exited through the entrance, but not a single person said "Thank you." It should have been clear that we were leaving as we carried our luggage out through the entrance. There were about 5 or 6 staff members, including those at the front desk and bellmen, yet none of them greeted us—this is unacceptable. This ruined what had otherwise been an enjoyable experience right at the end. On a positive note, the atmosphere of the building and breakfast were good. At the breakfast venue reception, one female staff member behind another noticed us and greeted us before guiding us to our table. Additionally, a female staff member in an elevator quickly realized we were heading out and kindly took our room key to deliver it to the front desk for us. While there are such wonderful staff members present, poor service from some has left a negative impression on Hotel overall. I had high expectations for this historic Hotel's charm but was deeply disappointed.

    Safe and Secure Nara Hotel

    Experience the Nara Hotel once more before its full closure next January. The service was pleasant and made for a comfortable stay.     It exceeded my expectations.

    Arriving at the Hotel in the evening after taking the Shuttle Service from Nara Station, we were immediately drawn to its serene and nostalgic atmosphere. The Room was clean and user-friendly, with deer visible outside the window. Although we were initially concerned that the French full-course dinner might be too heavy for two elderly guests, it turned out to be a perfectly balanced meal that highlighted high-quality ingredients. The relaxed service and delicious wine made for an exceptional dining experience filled with lively conversation. We felt no discomfort afterward, and the tea porridge served in the morning was outstanding. Before departure, we enjoyed a cup of their original coffee blend with its rich aroma alongside a Japanese chestnut Mont Blanc cake that wasn’t overly sweet—both of which we finished effortlessly together. The subtle yet refined service throughout our stay truly showcased Japan’s charm without being overbearing. We feel fortunate to have stayed before renovations began!

    We celebrated a 60th birthday here! First of all, thank you for your thoughtful hospitality. From the seating arrangement in the restaurant with a view of the garden (and torii gate), to the birthday plate and commemorative gifts, we truly appreciate all your heartfelt gestures. Receiving congratulatory words from the young staff was incredibly touching. The seasonal full-course meal was luxurious and absolutely delicious. The value for money was excellent considering everything included, and my husband was thrilled with the champagne as well. Toasting to this milestone while reminiscing about the concert at Kasuga Taisha Shrine made it an unforgettable celebration. The thoughtful service at this prestigious traditional Hotel made it a perfect 60th birthday celebration. Thank you very much!
