Thank you for your support.
My flight home was canceled, so I made a last-minute Reservation. The Hotel lobby is spacious, bright, and feels upscale as soon as you enter. The Room was also large and comfortable. The view from the bath is wonderful and really helps you unwind after traveling. It’s a shame the open-air bath is only on the men’s side; it would be great if it rotated in the morning. One disappointment was that about one-third of the hair dryers were out of order, so waiting your turn to dry your hair was difficult.

Meals
I was satisfied with the wide variety and high quality of the breakfast buffet. There was also an Onsen, which helped me feel refreshed.

After reading the Re...
After reading the Reviews, I wasn’t sure whether to choose the Main Building or the West Building, but I’m glad I chose the Main Building because getting to the baths and meals was smooth and convenient. The Room has been renovated, and it was great that the toilet is separate. The soundproofing is also solid, and everything feels clean. Even during Obon, we were able to have breakfast without any waiting time. You can also check how crowded it is from your Room—this really is a wonderful long-established Hotel. I appreciate all the efforts being made here, and I would love to stay again.

I don’t think I’ll use this again.
I could only make a Reservation on a smoking floor, but I was surprised at how strongly the entire floor smelled of cigarettes. The Room in the older wing was quite dated, and the odor had seeped in. The air purifier was also old—very loud but ineffective. Above all, it clearly did not feel worth the price. I also question charging guests for parking.

Unpleasant odor
Because the washroom smelled unusually bad, I requested a Room change. An abnormal foul odor was coming from the washroom plumbing in the old building (West Wing). I will never use Hakodate Kokusai Hotel again. Please stop selling it through travel agencies as well.

Comfortable
I wasn’t expecting much of a view from the window, but it felt spacious and was very nice. The Onsen is large and very relaxing.

About Reservations
I have stayed at this Hotel for over 20 years, so I have no concerns. For this Reservation with your company, the Accommodation Fee is charged in full 28 days before the stay. Until my previous Reservation, the Cancellation Fee applied from 7 days before (○○%). I have two questions: (1) I understand that charging the full amount in advance helps prevent last-minute cancellations, but do you currently offer any Reservations where the Cancellation Fee applies from 7 days before (○○%)? (2) With a Reservation that charges the full Accommodation Fee 28 days in advance, if I am unable to stay due to personal circumstances, can a sibling, child, or grandchild stay as a substitute? As I am getting older but would like to continue traveling, I would appreciate your confirmation of the above.

Overall, I would rate my satisfaction as 5.
At first, I felt it was a bit far from the station (about a 10-minute walk), and I thought I should have chosen a Hotel closer to the station. However, as I came to understand the surrounding area, I realized that even though it is slightly away from the station, it is actually closer to the Red Brick Warehouses and within walking distance of Hakodate Morning Market. If you don’t mind walking, it may even be possible to reach the Hakodate Ropeway station on foot. I came to appreciate again that it is in a great location. On the other hand, there were a few points that bothered me. There was only one tissue box in the Room (Hotels I have stayed at usually had one in both the bedroom and bathroom), so when I needed tissues while washing up, I had to go all the way back to the bedroom. Also, although coffee was available both at reception and in the Room, there was no green tea or black tea service (not everyone drinks coffee). And I was surprised that no one answered when I called reception. That said, there were more than enough amenities provided in the bathroom, and I was impressed that they even had not only a hair dryer but also a hair iron. Overall, it was a Hotel I could be satisfied with. The Room we stayed in was a corner Room with large windows, an open feel, and a great view. Right after entering the Room there was plenty of space and also a separate toilet area, which made for a very comfortable stay. I would like to stay here again when visiting Hakodate. Thank you very much.

It cannot be described as a free-flowing Onsen.
The meals were pleasantly tasty overall. Two disappointing points: 1) After reading Reviews in advance, I chose the West Wing on the harbor side expecting a nice view, but it faced a parking lot and a Hotel construction site—very disappointing. 2) I used the large public bath three times (4:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m., and 8:00 a.m. the next morning). No water was flowing at all from the spout where Onsen source water should run into the tub. It was clearly fully recirculated, heated water. I stayed at three other Onsen Accommodations around the same time, and all of them had source water flowing properly. With this, it doesn’t deserve to call itself an Onsen Accommodation. Also, there was an unusual odor in the women’s changing room. My companion felt sick and ended up not soaking in the bath at all. Very disappointing.

The view from the Room is
The Room was spacious, newly renovated, clean, and easy to use, but the view from the two windows was mostly just the Main Building and West Building. I chose it because the toilet and bath were separate, but I was disappointed. Also, check-in and check-out at the front desk were far too slow. The meals at Matsumae were as good as ever.

Breakfast is amazing!
A Hotel my husband recommends. I visited with my son’s family, and the Onsen was extremely crowded. Lately there have been many foreign guests as well, so the baths can get very busy… But everything else truly impressed me. The front desk staff were very thoughtful—my grandchildren’s sizes were a bit uncertain, and they kindly provided amenities in two sizes. I also asked at the front desk whether it was okay to take them to the lounge for parfaits, and they said it was fine. My husband had alcohol, while I and my grandchildren enjoyed items from the café menu (haha). The lounge staff were also very kind and welcoming. We’re grateful. Breakfast! It was amazing—my son’s family was thrilled too. Salmon roe, squid, sweet shrimp, and more. The meat was tender and delicious as well! We were even saying, “Should we stay here again next year?” (haha) My sons are in Sapporo due to work transfers, and we travel to follow them around. We made truly wonderful memories. Thank you.

Breakfast at a Long-Established Hotel
From the lobby, it truly felt like a long-established Hotel—elegant and dignified—and I think it would especially appeal to older guests. We were assigned a spacious 28 m² Room. When making the Reservation, I debated at length between the East Wing and West Wing, but I learned that some Rooms in the East Wing also offer great ocean views. The Hotel is known for its delicious Hakodate breakfast, but the buffet was crowded and there didn’t seem to be many unique dishes. After having breakfast at the buffet, we also enjoyed an eel hitsumabushi set meal at a separate venue. It wasn’t crowded, so we could relax and enjoy great food, making it more pleasant than the buffet.

It was as good as everyone said.
Breakfast was as delicious as rumored—excellent! Red and white wine were available, with free unlimited refills even in the morning. There was also a buffet where beef was grilled right in front of you, so I was completely satisfied from the start of the day. Of course, you can also make your own seafood rice bowl just the way you like it, piling on plenty of salmon roe. They kindly explained an efficient way to get to Goryokaku and even provided detailed bus times, and the staff’s service was great.

Great value for money!
Compared with my previous stay, perhaps due to recent price increases, the breakfast felt a bit less satisfying. I was also concerned about signs of aging in the Room and a musty smell in the bathroom. In addition, the walk to the large public bath is still quite far. That said, the comfortable Hotel experience and service are exactly what you would expect from a long-established Hotel—I had a very pleasant stay. The location is convenient for going anywhere, and I think it offers excellent value for money.

A Hotel You'll Want to Return To
The check-in service was excellent and made a great first impression. I used two of the on-site restaurants, and both the food quality and service were outstanding. I stay at Business Hotels 70–80 nights a year, but this Hotel reminded me how nice a full-service Hotel with restaurants and banquet facilities—especially one with history and prestige—can be.

Breakfast was more ordinary than expected. This may be a personal preference, but I felt the white rice wasn’t very good.

Hospitality
In the end, it comes down to how people treat each other. There was something missing at the breakfast venue, so I asked for it, but there was no response. Even when it was brought over and I said thank you, there was still no reply, which unfortunately left me feeling disappointed.

A two-hour wait for breakfast is just too much…
I came with high expectations for breakfast, but the TV information showed it was somewhat crowded. When I went to the venue a little after 7:00 a.m., there was a line at the reception machine, and it showed an estimated wait of about 77 minutes with 90 parties ahead of us. I went back to my Room to wait (and even went to the bath in between), but it was nowhere near 77 minutes—the time just kept passing, and we were finally shown to our table around 9:00 a.m. The seafood rice bowl was delicious, but waiting two hours just to enter the breakfast venue was a first for me in my life. Last order for breakfast was 9:30 a.m., and the venue closed at 10:00 a.m., but when I left after 9:30, there were still people who had not yet been seated and were about to enter. After eating, I checked out immediately and headed to the airport, so I regretted not skipping breakfast and going to eat at the morning market instead. I checked in after 3:00 p.m., but the Room had hair on the desk, scraps of paper left by previous guests on the floor, and dead batteries in the digital clock—cleaning and inspection were not thorough. Even at breakfast, foreign staff spoke to other staff in an accusatory tone about how “seat number X has been using that table for almost two hours,” and also asked me things like “Can we clear this now since you’re finished?” It felt like they had little emotional bandwidth. Overall, it seemed like the Hotel staff were exhausted; even if I visit Hakodate again, I will definitely never stay at this Hotel again.

Dinner
We stayed for one night with breakfast and dinner included. The morning buffet lived up to its reputation—you can make your own seafood bowl, and there’s a great mix of Japanese and Western options, so we were very satisfied. We added the dinner plan because we thought it would be easier, and of course we paid accordingly. In reality, it was only beer plus four snack-like items; split between us, each plate was about the size of a small dish. Photos were posted, but we never expected that to be all. And on the menu it was described as snacks with beer. If it had been clearly presented from the start as “a light drink,” that would have made sense. There was no explanation of the food—they just quickly set it down and left—so we ended up asking ourselves, “Is that all?” We’ve stayed at many Hotels with one-night stays including two meals where we were fully satisfied, so this was disappointing. The photos are accurate, but that is not dinner—it’s snacks. The price was listed as 3,000 yen. What exactly was the additional amount we paid supposed to cover as a dinner fee? Here, I think it’s better to book breakfast only. There are plenty of izakaya and seafood bowl restaurants nearby. We ended up going out for dinner feeling dissatisfied and upset.

We were very satisfied with this Hotel.
We chose this Hotel because it is close to the station, has a large public bath, and offers two dining venues. Our family was very satisfied. The all-you-can-eat seafood was great, and the sushi rice was delicious. Of course, there was also a wide variety of other dishes, which we enjoyed. The Onsen was very relaxing as well. We would like to visit again.

Breakfast is excellent.
The breakfast was very delicious and had a sufficient variety, just as mentioned in the reviews. The guest room was well-maintained and clean, and despite the extreme cold outside, I had a comfortable stay. However, it seems there was no open-air bath in the women's bathing area.

The Hotel with the highest satisfaction in the area.
Stayed to show appreciation to my mother and enjoy Hakodate's seafood. 【Location & Room】 Conveniently located in the heart of the tourist area, making it easy to access various attractions. The entire accommodation has been renovated, offering a clean and fresh atmosphere. While the East Wing showed slight signs of its original age, the interior was beautifully refurbished, ensuring a comfortable stay. 【Onsen】 The onsen features a sodium chloride spring with clear water that retains heat well due to its high salt content. Unfortunately, the outdoor bath was closed due to strong winds on our visit, so we couldn't cool down outside after soaking. The excellent quality of the water requires caution against over-soaking. 【Breakfast】 The highlight of our stay exceeded expectations with exceptional quality. The "unlimited salmon roe" was particularly impressive and generously offered without hesitation—almost concerning for hotel management! Other dishes featured abundant local ingredients and cuisine with an overwhelming variety that couldn’t be fully sampled in one sitting. This breakfast alone makes staying here worthwhile. 【Facility & Amenities】 Equipped with Dyson hair dryers and various showerheads for added enjoyment during your stay. 【Requests】 The only downside is the lack of sauna facilities despite their current popularity and no option for outdoor cooling during strong winds. Addressing these would elevate this hotel to perfection. 【Overall Rating】 Despite minor requests, overall satisfaction is extremely high—a fantastic hotel I’d definitely revisit when staying in Hakodate!

The meals were exceptionally delicious.
We stayed for two nights as a couple. For dinner, we had requested Western and Chinese cuisine. While imagining how the combination would be, both nights featured Western-style dishes with Chinese ingredients, which were very delicious. On the first morning, it was Sunday and crowded with tour guests, so we couldn't have breakfast at our preferred time and switched to Japanese-style instead. On the second morning, it was a buffet where we enjoyed fresh seafood to our satisfaction. The room we stayed in was in the West Wing, so moving to the bath or dining area required some effort, which was slightly inconvenient. On the second night, it was my wife's birthday and I made a last-minute request for an anniversary celebration; they accommodated us kindly. The cake was also delicious—much appreciated! Overall evaluation is positive. We would like to use this accommodation again!

Close to the station
Conveniently located near Hakodate Station. The bus returning from Mount Hakodate stopped in front of the Hotel, which was great. I was happy to stay in a room on an upper floor with a nice view, as per my request—thank you. The Onsen was relaxing, and the seafood and pudding at breakfast were delicious. I had a leisurely and comfortable stay and would love to stay again.

The breakfast photos are true to reality.
A one-night trip to Hakodate with my son. I booked Hakodate Kokusai Hotel after seeing photos of their breakfast menu. The breakfast we were looking forward to exceeded our expectations with its variety and deliciousness, leaving us completely satisfied. The highlight for most guests seemed to be the seafood, as almost every table had heaping bowls of ikura don. We got excited too and indulged ourselves! There were also steak, buri daikon, and other amazing dishes—it was simply the best breakfast ever. Although there were ramen and curry available, we had to skip them as we couldn't eat any more. This was undoubtedly the number one hotel breakfast we've ever had during our stays at accommodations so far. The room and onsen were spacious and comfortable as well. The onsen showerheads came in about five different types, which was quite fun! With a checkout time of 11:00 AM, we could relax after breakfast by taking a nap in the room to recover from being so full—but even then, our fullness didn’t go away completely! It made it quite challenging to enjoy Hakodate’s famous burgers and yakitori bento planned for lunch and snacks (though they were still delicious). The hotel is within walking distance of the Red Brick Warehouse area, making it highly recommended for anyone staying in Hakodate!

Stayed on the second...
Stayed on the second day of a three-day weekend. Chose this accommodation for its breakfast buffet and location. Surprised by the long check-in line, and worried about breakfast crowding, so entered the restaurant early in the morning. Satisfied with the meal selection. The night view from the bath was not as impressive as expected. Requested a smoking room, but there was a strong tobacco smell near the elevator which was concerning. Unfortunately, even the bedding in the room smelled of tobacco, which was disappointing. On departure day, enjoyed exploring nearby markets and other attractions. Overall, glad to have stayed here—thank you!

Always a delicious breakfast
The buffet offers a wide variety of delicious options, but the breakfast in Matsumae is exceptional. For eel lovers, enjoying hitsumabushi in the morning is irresistible. The dinner set menu is also very reasonably priced. However, it was disappointing that despite arriving right at opening time, we couldn't enter due to a private reservation. It would have been helpful to be informed in advance about the private booking for the day.

It was excellent.
It was a very nice hotel. The room, the facilities, the price, and the staff's service were all excellent. The bath area was quite crowded as many guests seemed to return from viewing Hakodate Mountain's night scenery at the same time. Breakfast the next morning also had long lines, and we waited nearly an hour. On the second day, we took a ticket early and everything went smoothly. It wasn't until we experienced it that we understood what "please come early" meant during check-in. If this point had been explained more clearly, I would have rated everything a perfect 5.

The cleanliness of the Facility and the breakfast are excellent for this price!
Second stay here. Highly recommended as the best value-for-money Hotel. It's very family-friendly, providing amenities like strollers, diaper bins, and body soap. The Facility has been renovated and is clean, and the breakfast at this price is excellent—delicious! Conveniently located near the station and Lucky Pierrot, with a Seicomart and Hasegawa Store soon opening next to the Hotel. Definitely coming back next time!
