    Guest satisfaction is gradually decreasing.

    I stay here 3 to 5 times a year. With stunning views, vast grounds, excellent management, delicious food and drinks, and most importantly, lodges where I can stay with my dog, this is one of my favorite hotels. This year, I stayed three times in May, July, and late September. However, this time there were several disappointing aspects. Has the head chef changed? Or is it due to rising ingredient costs? The quality and taste of breakfast have gradually declined. It has become saltier with stronger flavors. Additionally, the variety of salad bars, desserts, and fruits has decreased. The quality of juices has also dropped. The Abelia herbal tea used to allow us to choose various herbs ourselves but now comes in pre-packaged form with diminished flavor—this was disappointing as well. For dinner over the years as course meals became too large for me to finish comfortably; this time we dined at Namaste (Indian cuisine) within Tokyu Resort Town offering authentic North Indian dishes accompanied by stories from its iconic hostess resembling traditional Indian vegetarian fare—and Anfamille serving European-style dishes featuring fresh Tateshina vegetables paired perfectly cooked meats without being heavy—a satisfying experience suitable even for seniors like myself! Next visit plans include trying Japanese cuisine at Kitayama restaurant instead. While Fragrant's meals remain tasty overall albeit portion sizes could benefit from single-item options lately vegetable flavors seem less vibrant than before. Communication via email lacked responses initially (possibly due poor connectivity?) though eventually informed multiple-night stays were possible despite unprepared arrangements upon arrival switching last-minute into two nights/three days proved manageable avoiding exhaustion typical during shorter stays lasting only one night/two days duration thankfully resolved positively! Women's bath area appeared crowded during recent visits making access challenging especially given steep uphill paths leading back towards lodges situated approximately 1300m above sea level posing difficulties elderly guests aged seventy-plus post-alcohol consumption unable drive vehicles safely afterward suggesting shuttle service availability or rentable carts might alleviate such issues recognizing staffing shortages complicate feasibility implementing solutions effectively addressing concerns raised herein nonetheless appreciated consideration exploring alternatives accommodating canine companions exclusively lodging facilities provided consistently throughout every visit seeking innovative approaches enhancing overall guest experiences moving forward greatly valued!

    Overall, I am satisfied.

    Stayed at the Dog Cottage. (Positive Points) - The dog run was grassy and had a great environment. - The garden was beautiful, making walks very pleasant. - The onsen was clean, equipped with a ReFa shower head and a Repronizer hair dryer, showcasing high-quality facilities. - Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the service was excellent. - When we ran out of toilet sheets for our dog due to frequent use, additional sheets were promptly provided upon request. - Concerned about carrying luggage and our dog up to the farthest cottage (on an incline) from the lobby without a car, we were grateful that the hotel transported us directly to our room by car. - The cage provided was spacious with sufficient height, ensuring safety even when leaving small dogs alone without fear of escape. The pet bed was large, clean, and allowed our dog to relax comfortably. (Points of Concern) - The doorknob being a round type made it slightly inconvenient; for those holding or carrying dogs often with hands full, a lever-type handle operable with one hand or elbow would be appreciated. - Lighting in the room felt somewhat dim overall due to limited illumination. - There were small spider webs in some areas inside the room; more thorough cleaning would be appreciated in this regard. - It would be helpful if wet wipes for cleaning pets' paws after walks outside were provided. - We couldn’t find waste disposal bags (apologies if we overlooked them). - A deodorizing spray for pets would also be appreciated. Overall very satisfied! Thank you for your hospitality—looking forward to staying again!

    Perfect for relaxation.

    It was quiet and relaxing. The staff were very kind. This Hotel is perfect for simply enjoying a luxurious stay without doing anything but relaxing inside. Around the Hotel, you can see deer families and squirrels, surrounded by nature. A Hotel I would love to stay at again.

    Mornings and evenings in the highlands have finally become cooler.

    I stayed with my wife to enjoy golf in the highlands. Unfortunately, we couldn't make a dinner reservation, but we were able to relax by using a nearby onsen. We started early in the morning, so the first half of the round was pleasantly cool, but it became quite hot with strong sunlight in the latter half. It would be nice if dinner reservations were available for guests.

    A very lovely Hotel nestled in the forest

    I was very excited even before my visit, and the Hotel was just as wonderful as I had imagined. Upon arrival, the classical building with its majestic presence nestled in the forest immediately lifted my spirits. The entrance and lobby adorned with red carpets were also stunning and perfectly suited to my taste. Thanks to the IKYU Diamond benefits, we enjoyed a cake set in the lounge, which had a cozy atmosphere with a fireplace. I would love to visit again during winter; the natural garden that feels untouched was truly beautiful. One night is not enough to fully enjoy a leisurely stroll there. The Room offered a view of lush greenery through large bay windows, which was so soothing. Though it has aged over time, its historical charm and solid construction were impressive. Thank you for assisting with our surprise during dinner! The dessert plate and even the T-bone steak we requested on short notice were absolutely delicious, making it an unforgettable dinner for my grandparents and family alike. Everyone left completely satisfied thanks to your efforts! The staff members were all incredibly professional and left an impression of excellence throughout our stay. Next time, I hope to visit during snowfall to experience another beautiful scenery at this Hotel again! Thank you very much for taking care of us during this stay!

    It looked like Manpei Hotel.

    The building is old, and the facility is quite worn out. However, it feels well-maintained. Above all, the surrounding environment is amazing. Near the window, there are birch trees and a pond, creating an atmosphere where deer might appear. You can take a walk around there. The climate is dry and refreshing, completely different from humid Tokyo. I’ve become a fan of Tateshina. The onsen is located in a separate building uphill. While it’s inconvenient, there are exclusive hours for guests to avoid crowds, allowing you to enjoy various baths peacefully. The quality of the water felt gentle as well. The staff includes some younger members and doesn’t provide perfect hospitality; however, this can be overlooked due to the overwhelming beauty of the surroundings and the weight of tradition here. I would love to visit again!

    The aunt who used to say, "A Hotel is just for sleeping, so any Room will do," completely changed her mind and said, "I want to go again!!" This is the Hotel that made her feel that way. I am still being urged to accompany her on future visits.

    Classic Hotel

    The Hotel features a classic atmosphere both inside and out. Even during the peak season, it was quiet, calm, and very relaxing. Lunch at the lounge and breakfast at the restaurant were enjoyable without any noise or rush. The staff members were very polite and attentive. The bath is a free Onsen located about a 2-minute walk away; however, there is a slight uphill path to reach it. Facing a serene pond with beautiful views, it's also perfect for taking walks. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay.

    A Resort Hotel that has been visited countless times over the years. The Facility is old, but it exudes a sense of calm and spaciousness, offering a consistently comfortable experience with the attentive service of well-trained staff. Breakfast is served at your table (excluding salad and fruit), allowing for a peaceful dining experience without the noise of a buffet. Guests spanning three generations are often seen, reflecting its long-standing reputation as a classic Resort Hotel cherished by adults.

    Disappointed with the smell in the Room.

    Previously stayed with my dog and had a good impression, so I booked a one-night stay during the Obon holiday. Room 517 had poor sunlight, and upon opening the door, I was shocked by the smell of mold and urine. I contacted the front desk, and they sprayed deodorizer, but it was only temporary, making for an uncomfortable night. Considering the price of nearly 250,000 yen per night and trusting in Tokyu's reputation, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, my much-anticipated summer vacation was ruined. Even at checkout, the response was unsatisfactory. Please ensure proper ventilation and deodorization before guests enter their rooms.

    Family Trip

    A family trip with three generations and three families, this time we made a Reservation aiming for the cool highland pool. Driving from Magome, we arrived for the 3 PM check-in. Despite only 2-3 groups at the front desk, there was only one staff member handling everything, so we had to wait quite a while. When asking about the pool location, no information about its closing time was provided. After getting the kids changed and inflating their floaties, we reached the pool only to be told it would close in 20 minutes. A pool closing at 4:30 PM? Really? When I asked about the annex pool hours, they had to confirm by phone—was this person just a part-timer? Taking five children aged one and up to the annex pool turned out disappointing as it required an additional fee and mandatory cap purchase if you didn’t have one. With little time left before dinner, disappointed kids ended up taking a bath instead. Later at reception, I complained that they should have informed us of free pool hours beforehand but received nothing more than a generic response. The next day, thankfully, the kids enjoyed swimming in the morning which brought some relief. At checkout when I mentioned yesterday’s poor service to a male staff member at reception he simply apologized without much else to say except promising he'd suggest extending pool hours to his superior... Paying luxury Hotel prices for service below that of even a Business Hotel was shocking! While understanding staffing shortages exist elsewhere too—memories came back vividly recalling polite efficient Asian workers bustling around Gero Onsen under well-trained management teams leaving lasting impressions on everyone within our family group reflecting similar sentiments altogether writing complaints like these isn’t something done lightly nor often

    Disappointing

    The cottage we used as a family had a musty smell in the room. Additionally, there were no side dishes in the kaiseki cuisine that felt particularly delicious. The front desk staff did not seem to provide basic customer service. I hope they can improve and offer more heartfelt service.

    It was cool and comfortable.

    I stayed one night in a cottage. The shuttle service from Chino Station was very convenient. Around the hotel, there were onsen and dining options within walking distance, which was great. The cottage I stayed in was also comfortable. Since it was summer, I was a bit worried about insects, but they didn’t bother me at all. The evening barbecue featured high-quality ingredients and was delicious, though it would have been nice to have a bit more variety of vegetables. I would love to stay here again if I get the chance!

    On the Verge of Collapse... Everything is Old

    Previously stayed at Hakuba Tokyu twice, so decided to include it in this Tateshina trip. - Lobby is hot... It was hotter inside the hotel than outside... No point in coming to the hotel. - Room key is an old-fashioned type... This is acceptable. - Bathroom is not clean... When running the shower, debris from the corners of the floor comes out... Like a horror movie. - Wi-Fi is fast... Perhaps because there were few guests. - Breakfast is not tasty... Chose Japanese-style breakfast. The porridge tasted like reheated instant food. Everything was unappetizing… Would love flavors like those at Kyoto Okura’s Irifune restaurant. - No bottled water provided… Reason given: tap water tastes good here. - Cooled down after heavy rain. No renovations have been made since its construction 40 years ago. Tokyu group hotels might be in trouble. Not worth 90,000 yen per night for two people.

    Welcome Drink

    Some Hotels nowadays don't even offer a welcome drink. I usually enjoy the tea snacks provided in the Room and buy them as souvenirs if they are delicious, but there were none this time.

    A relaxing retreat surrounded by greenery

    The building reflects the charm of a long-established Hotel, showing signs of use but well-maintained. The spacious garden and fireplace provided a relaxing atmosphere that we never grew tired of and were very satisfied with. We requested Japanese cuisine for dinner, which was elaborate and offered so many dishes that we couldn't finish them all—truly satisfying. However, we were slightly disappointed as we had hoped for local seasonal vegetables and fruits in the dessert or breakfast salad. Additionally, the shuttle bus seemed old, and the air conditioning didn't seem to work well, making the 30-minute ride a bit uncomfortable; hence, I deducted one star. Other than that, it was an excellent experience, and I would love to visit again!

    The Hotel is excellent, but...

    We stayed in a large Maisonette Room for one night with 4 adults and 2 children (ages 3 and 7). We arrived early, left our luggage at the front desk, and went to a nearby kids' corner. When we returned to our room, we noticed one piece of luggage was missing. My son-in-law quickly went to the front desk but came back saying it wasn’t there. Feeling uneasy, we went back again and explained that the luggage should be there as it had been taken out before heading out earlier. The staff asked if they could check the room again, so they accompanied us to search once more. During this time, they confirmed details with other staff members. Eventually, it turned out that the luggage had been stored in another room by mistake... but by then our excitement had completely faded. While I understand how things were handled by the staff under such circumstances, even a small exchange of information or an apology in advance would have made a difference. The indifferent attitude from some staff members was disheartening. The dinner was an upgraded Japanese meal and absolutely delicious—so much so that we were looking forward to breakfast as well. However, breakfast options were limited; there wasn’t even a dedicated menu for children despite having informed them about two kids beforehand. When I asked about this again later on, a trainee consulted another staff member who confirmed there weren’t any child-specific meals available! This has never happened before during any stay elsewhere. In the end, I gave my children portions from my plate along with bread and salad while drinks were provided separately—but when I requested additional bread refills for them later on, it never arrived despite waiting patiently. This left me feeling quite dissatisfied overall. The bath facility was located away from our building; towels needed to be brought from our room but no extra small towels were provided for children’s use either. There wasn’t clear guidance regarding operating hours—it seemed like morning access wasn’t allowed based on pamphlet information which might have caused some misunderstanding. Parking instructions also felt vague at best. It’s truly disappointing because both the hotel itself and its atmosphere are wonderful otherwise! To avoid disrupting family harmony or spoiling memories further during our stay—I’ve decided instead just share these thoughts here now instead of addressing them directly onsite at that moment

    A Wonderful Resort

    We stayed at the Tateshina Tokyu Resort, which we had been interested in for a long time, this time with our elderly dog. The cottage allowed us to spend time comfortably with our dog, go for walks, and enjoy activities, leaving us very satisfied. The restaurant was excellent in terms of service, food taste, and beverages. Although we initially felt a bit uneasy due to a lack of staff at the front desk upon arrival, each staff member's hospitality was impeccable as expected from such a well-established hotel. We would love to visit again!

    A classic Hotel with a sense of history. The staff were pleasant, and the natural surroundings were excellent and comfortable. The meals were delicious, with creative touches on both Japanese and Western dishes. However, the bonito carpaccio-style dish was not very impressive. Overall, I am satisfied.

    Negative Reviews of Pet Cottage

    This is my first review. I am writing a critical review in hopes of improvements to the pet-friendly rooms at Tokyu Resort. While I have visited Tateshina Tokyu Resort many times over the decades and hold fond memories of it, this was my first time staying in a pet cottage, and I doubt I will return again. It is deeply disappointing that such cherished memories have been tarnished in this way. From the moment we entered the pet cottage, there was an unbearable odor that made us consider canceling our stay. The living space downstairs had a particularly strong animal smell, and when we wiped the flooring, the cloth turned dark brown—this was shocking. We had planned to stay as three adults but found only two beds available. Upon asking at reception, we were told that the sofa in the living room could be used as a bed; however, due to its terrible smell, sleeping on it felt like torture. We considered booking another room in the hotel building but ultimately decided against it out of respect for one family member's wish to stay together. Reluctantly, one person slept on the sofa bed but woke up with itchy red bite marks on their shoulder area—likely caused by mites from the sofa itself. While some wear and tear can be expected given how old these cottages are, shouldn't there be regular cleaning or replacement of items like sofas and curtains? Shouldn't deodorizing or renovating floors and walls also be considered? Given how much we paid for our stay, this level of poor maintenance significantly diminishes Tokyu Resort's overall quality as a brand. Furthermore, despite being labeled as "pet-friendly," there were no odor-sealing trash bins or disinfectant wipes provided for cleaning up after pets' accidents. We have stayed at various pet-friendly accommodations before but have never encountered anything this bad elsewhere. Management should personally experience other pet-friendly accommodations to understand what needs improvement here. This trip left us with such unpleasant memories that we now hesitate even to consider traveling with our pets again. The only positive aspect was being able to enjoy walks with our dog through cool mornings and evenings amidst expansive gardens and forested areas within your resort grounds. Since you already offer such wonderful outdoor spaces for pets too enjoyably explore alongside their owners—we sincerely hope you will improve your facilities so guests can confidently choose them when traveling with their beloved animals!

    Room: I stayed in a cottage and enjoyed the stunning view of greenery and the flowing river from the terrace. Since it was a cold day, I appreciated that the room was pre-heated with heating before my arrival. However, I noticed that the terrace table and chairs were covered in dust, which made me wonder if they had been cleaned properly. Onsen: The showerhead was ReFa, and the hairdryer provided was a Repronizer—great amenities for those who care about beauty. The cleaning was thorough, allowing me to enjoy a comfortable onsen experience. The view of fresh greenery from the open-air bath was also lovely. It would be nice to have complimentary post-bath drinks available. Dining: For dinner, I chose French cuisine. Many pet-friendly accommodations often fail to provide meals worth their price, but here, every dish exceeded expectations! From appetizers to dessert, it was an absolutely delightful dining experience. The freshly baked bread was also delicious. For breakfast, I opted for Japanese cuisine; however, I felt there is still room for improvement. Facility: Moving between cottages, Tokyu Hotel facilities, and baths involved some uphill and downhill walking—it turned out to be light exercise which wasn’t bad at all! Still, having electric bicycles or scooters available at each cottage would make transportation more convenient. While there were minor concerns here and there, this trip turned out truly satisfying with wonderful meals amidst nature’s beauty, a comfortable room setting paired with relaxing onsen experiences—and not forgetting how courteous all staff members were with their warm hospitality! Thank you very much! I’d love to visit again during another season!

    It was our first vis...

    It was our first visit with family, and we stayed in a cottage as we brought our beloved dog. The overall atmosphere of the accommodation reflects a spacious and charming design from a bygone era, which was very pleasant. The onsen was overcrowded, so we skipped it on the second day. Breakfast was included, but since our dog was not allowed in the restaurant, we took turns going. The beautiful garden made up for the drawbacks, and overall, we were satisfied.

    The spring snow was also wonderful.

    From the beautiful autumn foliage season to the warm spring where we could see cherry blossoms, we headed to Tateshina. Dinner was a Western-style course, just like last time, and every dish was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. The handwritten menu was also charming. Breakfast was equally delightful. The staff provided attentive service, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere that we truly enjoyed. We also had a wonderful time at the Onsen after our meals. At night, we were able to see snow falling, and the next morning greeted us with a pure white snowy landscape—a rare sight of spring snow. Our dog enjoyed the stay as much as last time too! Thank you for the attractive benefits offered to Diamond members. We are already looking forward to enjoying your cuisine again on our next visit. Thank you for your hospitality!

    The cuisine and service were excellent.

    I stayed for two nights. The dinner (Western cuisine) was very delicious, and the breakfast (Japanese cuisine) was also good. I stayed for skiing, and they kindly accepted to drive us every time, which was really helpful. The lodge was warm, and I slept well. I have two requests. 1: The sidewalk was icy, and it was scary because we had to go out every night for dinner or Onsen (to prevent children from falling). 2: When we requested a shuttle service at the ski resort, we were met with unpleasant expressions or told that they wouldn't come even if we called, which was confusing (a shared request).

    Snow Hotel

    Although this Hotel is extremely famous, its winter presence in the harsh season—still untouched by the noise of large tour groups such as Chinese and Middle Eastern visitors—is beautiful. The staff service is also excellent. When wet snow caused ice to build up inside my 911’s wheel wells and I was struggling, they kindly brought several buckets of hot water to help. Beautiful nature, tasteful architecture, high-quality staff, and a delicious dinner—I would like to express my respect for this Hotel for maintaining such a rare harmony.

    Quiet Time

    The lack of an Onsen in the Hotel might be a slight drawback. The meals, Western-style dinner and Japanese-style breakfast, were both very delicious. It was a bit unfortunate that the hall staff seemed to be in a hurry, but I am grateful for the quiet and relaxing time I had.

    If you are comfortable with a fireplace, please consider staying with us!

    It was a visit during a time when the autumn leaves had settled and the tourists had calmed down. It was a lovely building with a classical Hotel. The fireplace in the lobby is very nice... The marshmallows were roasted, and the children were delighted, and the stylish design is eye-catching... But the smoke was overwhelming. I seem to be the type who is not good with that smoke... My eyes were watering throughout the stay. The smell even came into the Room... If you are not good with this smell, it might be better not to stay during winter. Here are my other evaluations. The Room is old, but cleaning is OK except for the toilet. There was a clump of dust in the toilet. It bothers me... The food was good, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. It wasn't a buffet, but it was delicious. The bath is far, but I could see the stars, and I didn't mind the walk. The quality of the water is good, and I think it's a good Onsen. I wonder if I can go in the summer when there's no smoke? Will the smoke smell remain in the Room? That's what I'm thinking.

    This time, a 2-night stay.

    This time was my first Multiple Night Stay. Both dinners and breakfasts were wonderful, and I enjoyed them with some drinks. On the first day, it was pouring rain, so I kept going back and forth between the guest room and the lounge, but on the second day, it was clear and I was able to enjoy the beautiful autumn leaves. The only drawback might be that to go to the Onsen, you have to leave the Hotel and climb a hill.

    When my grandson was...

    When my grandson was small, we stayed at a certain hotel and received a warning because he was excited and noisy. This time, we were able to book a cottage, so we didn't have to worry even if he was a bit noisy. Also, thank you for being kind and considerate to my grandchildren during meals. We arrived earlier than planned for check-in, but we were warmly welcomed, which was great. During this season, a lot of larch leaves were on the car, but when we asked, they kindly blew them off with air, which was helpful. One thing that concerned me a little was the smell inside the cottage. How about considering placing something with a deodorizing effect, like cypress chips or deodorizing charcoal, to create a natural scent?

    The room smells.

    The room was damp and smelled bad. I think it was probably mold. It was an unpleasant smell like old kimonos or a vintage clothing store, and I couldn't sleep. I only had breakfast, but it was adequate and not bad. It has the atmosphere of a classic hotel, but it feels like an old hotel. I guess it used to be good. I won't be coming back a second time.
