HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island

I stayed for 2 nights this time. When the room door is fully open, the garden and the room become one, creating an incredibly comfortable atmosphere. Relaxing on Ryukyu tatami while feeling the natural breeze was absolutely wonderful. The meals were à la carte and reasonably priced, allowing adjustments based on your appetite for the day, which was great. The staff's service was excellent, and I strongly felt that everyone genuinely wanted to make the hotel better. You can experience all of Taketomi's charm at this hotel, so honestly, I felt no need to go out into the village. I will visit again!

There is no Hoshinoya Taketomi Island sign at the front entrance.Bougainvillea in full bloom welcomes you!Shuttle Service by golf cart to Room 107 in the village of 48 rooms.I stepped into the Room with my favorite Ryukyu roof tiles, and the staff explained everything, but I was so excited that none of it really sank in (lol).An amazing otherworldly space (no TV / Wi‑Fi available).My wife and I usually keep conversation to a minimum, but during our stay we talked more than ever (lol).Even though it’s nearby, the layout keeps other people’s eyes out; we opened the glass windows all the way for maximum openness.- The shower drainage is poorAbout a 5–10 minute walk from the guest room to the private beachA walk to the lookout at night is nice (flashlights are provided)Dinner: once at the dining venue, once in the RoomBreakfast: at the dining venue!At night in the dining venue, they were very attentive and paced things well with how fast we ateIn the Room we had medicinal hot-pot shabu-shabu: Wagyu beef plus pork belly and pork loin totaling 300g, vegetables also 300g, and an ohitsu of rice—maybe 2 or 3 cups’ worth.We couldn’t finish it all.There’s a small shop at reception—not much—but they have free drinks and complimentary snacks. They also stock many paid awamori options.There are tables, chairs, and a raised tatami seating area—open seating!If you’re lucky with timing, they were singing Taketomi Island folk songs.Inside the village everyone greeted each other with “hello.” More Western guests greeted than Japanese guests.But there were some loud Chinese guests here too.There were moments that annoyed me, but overall I was satisfied.After coming home I really realized how luxurious that slow flow of time was.Next time I want to come on a clear, hot day.Okinawa isn’t hotter than Tokyo even in midsummer.
