Aso Hakuun Sanso

Nearly 30 years ago, I stayed several times at the old Hakun Sanso before it was rebuilt. I was disappointed when it was demolished, but after seeing an advertisement that it had newly reopened, I decided to stay again for the first time in a long while. The bath area was clean, though I was a bit disappointed there wasn’t an open-air bath. The buffet meals were also delicious. Perhaps because it was the last night of a holiday weekend, there were few guests and I could relax. One small issue: the chairs at the Room table set were too high and uncomfortable to sit on.

I stayed in a third-floor Room with a view of Mt. Aso, and we were lucky to have great weather, so we could see the full moon (Blue Moon) and the sunrise the next morning from the Room—it was beautiful. The bath doesn’t have an open-air bath, but it felt clean and was very pleasant. Meals were buffet-style, and because there weren’t too many items, everything was served hot and tasted excellent. I would like to stay at this Accommodation again.
