    The staff at the fro...

    The staff at the front desk and those who greeted us during check-in were all very pleasant and welcoming. The room was renovated and very clean, but the unit bath and toilet felt quite cramped. The open-air bath was spacious and comfortable. However, the changing area was a bit small, so guests had to take turns while changing. Additionally, the basket provided for carrying items to the bath was too small to fit a bath towel, face towel, and change of clothes, which caused some inconvenience. The meals featured local ingredients and traditional dishes with a wide variety of options, which we enjoyed. However, it would be even better if measures were taken to keep the dishes warm. The recommended pudding and soft serve ice cream were absolutely delicious! Also, the stewed dried cod dish was incredibly tasty—definitely a must-try for other guests! We would love to stay here again!

    Various issues present.

    Dinner Buffet: Many dishes were out of stock, and several items couldn't be tried even once. Due to the time limit, we had to settle for less popular dishes. It felt overly crowded, like a packed golf course. The restaurant staff seemed extremely busy and lacked smiles. The bath facilities were nice, but the changing area was overwhelmingly crowded! Given our high expectations, this experience was disappointing and not one we'd repeat.

    Had a relaxing stay.

    The large ryokan was very lively. The room at Suzaku-tei was spacious, clean, and perfect for a relaxing stay. The onsen had an incredibly large open-air bath, which was amazing. The breakfast and dinner buffets included a variety of Aizu's local dishes. The morning mochi, handmade rice balls, and omelets were especially delicious. Although it was crowded and there were long lines... (laughs) Despite the spaciousness of the facility, it was easy to access the baths and dining areas. Staying at such a wonderful accommodation made for a happy and satisfying time!

    Looking out from the...

    Looking out from the room's window, there were many stink bugs, and outside, there were numerous graves, making it hard to muster the courage to open the curtains. Neither breakfast nor dinner had any particularly memorable dishes. Perhaps it was just quality matching the price.

    The bath was excellent.

    Aizu Higashiyama Onsen, Onyado Toho is an accommodation that took about 4 to 5 hours by car from Tokyo, but it was a very satisfying hotel. However, the local Aizu cuisine and miso soup were slightly too salty. It would have been better if the saltiness was reduced a bit. Overall, it was a satisfying trip.

    I chose this accommodation because of its high ratings, but honestly, my experience was mixed. The meals offered a wide variety, but only a few dishes were truly enjoyable. The shrimp in the chili shrimp dish was too soft to identify properly. I couldn't eat the sashimi or sushi either. Amenities were limited, and the face towels appeared to be reused after cleaning. While the elderly gentleman at the front desk was cheerful, he seemed unfriendly when addressing inquiries from an older woman.

    Best value for money

    Visited with a same-day reservation during my child's autumn break. It was a spontaneous decision, but we had a wonderful time. ● Meals & Dining Area The buffet exceeded expectations in the best way possible. I was particularly impressed by the staff's effort to replenish and serve fresh dishes even near the end of meal service. The inclusion of many local dishes was delightful. The dining area had plenty of spacious seating, accommodating strollers and wheelchairs thoughtfully. Personally, I appreciated having shelves for returning used dishes, as it felt less intrusive compared to staff constantly clearing tables nearby. ● Onsen I noticed cleaning staff frequently maintaining cleanliness, which was reassuring. However, at "Takumo no Yu," the powder room is located separately from the changing area, causing some guests to unknowingly wait in line there. Clearer signage would be helpful for better guidance. With guests from various backgrounds and generations staying here, there are diverse approaches to using shared facilities like powder rooms. ● Room & Facility The room and overall facility were impeccably clean with excellent attention to detail. ● Check-in & Check-out The system integration made personal information verification seamless (no need for filling out accommodation ledgers). ● Parking Due to congestion, we parked at a temporary lot near the onsen town after dropping off our luggage and then moved again later. A shuttle bus accompanied us back so walking wasn’t necessary even in rainy weather. ● Service All staff members across different sections were kind and attentive. Cleaning staff provided helpful local tips about Aizu city while working around guests pleasantly. Front desk personnel offered dedicated service even when assisting international visitors—very commendable! Kitchen staff recommended freshly prepared dishes enthusiastically as well. Although I didn’t receive my dinner drink coupon during check-in initially, restaurant staff promptly checked my accommodation plan upon seating at dinner and resolved it smoothly without issue—cross-departmental support like this left a positive impression! ● Suggestions for Improvement Adding sound-masking devices ("Otohime") in restrooms near dining areas would enhance comfort by reducing unwanted noise before or after meals. Providing washable sauna mats could further elevate cleanliness standards within spa facilities!

    I had a relaxing time.

    We arrived at the nearest station earlier than expected, and thanks to an earlier shuttle service, we were able to reach the accommodation ahead of schedule, giving us more time to relax. The onsen was well-maintained with frequent cleaning, ensuring cleanliness and a comfortable atmosphere in all baths. The meals featured local ingredients, seasonal dishes, and a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisines—all incredibly delicious. Although both my husband and I usually have small appetites, we enjoyed the food so much that we even had seconds. The souvenir shop was spacious and enjoyable as well. It was a quiet, relaxing, and delightful trip. Thank you very much!

    Excellent

    The meals are delicious as per the reviews, but it’s disappointing that they are generally served cold. While it’s understandable for dishes like stew and beef steak to be pre-prepared, improving the heating temperature would be appreciated. The desserts were tasty, and breakfast was abundant and enjoyable. The room is very clean, spacious, and comfortable. With many staff members available, service is prompt. Amenities are minimal but sufficient; since they use POLA products, there were no issues with dry hair or skin. However, the Wi-Fi connection is weak. It would be great if each room or floor had its own setup to ensure better connectivity.

    Hotel worth the price

    The buffet with many live kitchen stations offered a wide variety of dishes and was excellent. The infinity open-air bath also had a great atmosphere. The Room was renovated and clean, but the small size of the Room was unavoidable, especially the combined toilet, washroom, and bath area, which resembled that of a Business Hotel.

    The open-air bath was wonderful.

    It rained from the morning on the second day, but I still enjoyed the open-air bath comfortably. The buffet meals were rich in local flavors and very delicious. The locally branded milk had a rich taste yet was refreshing and easy to drink. What was disappointing, however, was that I wanted to try the world’s top-ranked sake from Fukushima, but it wasn’t available. I also tried ordering other types of sake, but they were out of stock as well—quite unfortunate.

    Everything is excellent.

    We stayed here again this year following our visit last year. The lively dining experience was exceptional in every aspect, including the atmosphere, variety of dishes, taste, and ambiance. The facilities within the property, such as the bath, room, and shop, were all excellent and made our stay extremely comfortable. Thank you very much!

    The staff's warm hospitality makes this a great accommodation. The rooms are clean. Some rooms have separate toilet and bath, which is convenient for families with children.

    Watch TV Tokyo and make a Reservation.

    The expectations were too high. Although it has been renovated, there was a musty smell from the hallway to the room. I found a pile of dust in the closet, which was a bit disappointing. Both the dining area and the bath always seemed crowded.

    A bustling dining area!

    During the Obon holiday season in summer, the hotel was very crowded with families (including our family of three adults) during meal times. Despite this, there was a wide variety of food to choose from, and we were fully satisfied. The two baths had a futuristic design and were quite appealing, though they remained busy throughout our stay. At checkout, payment via code settlement was available, making the process quick and convenient in just a few minutes!

    We stayed as a three-generation family. It had been a while since we experienced a buffet dinner at a Ryokan, but as mentioned in other reviews, the variety was truly impressive. Especially the local dishes—usually just one or two items—were abundant with six or seven options available. Each family member found their favorite and was very satisfied. Personally, I loved the whale soup. The bath was amazing, especially the circular open-air bath. However, I particularly enjoyed the water feature and wind chimes along the facade leading to the large communal bath—they were delightful and lifted my spirits. If I had to point out one drawback, it would be that there were only stairs at the entrance of the accommodation; it would have been nice if someone could help carry luggage for my elderly mother. We stayed in the Tower Building, which stood out prominently when viewed from Tsuruga Castle's main keep on the following day—it made me feel slightly proud! This is an accommodation I can recommend in Aizuwakamatsu with its rich historical charm—a solid 4 that's very close to a 5!

    The staff, onsen, meals, and room - everything is completely satisfying at this accommodation!

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. All the staff were kind and attentive, allowing us to have a truly pleasant time. The highlight was the dinner and breakfast! Both meals offered an incredible variety of dishes, so many that we couldn’t finish them all—though we wanted to! While it was a bit disappointing not being able to try everything, we were thoroughly satisfied. This is definitely an accommodation we would love to visit again!

    The public bath is excellent.

    I planned to stay for 3 nights, but only a 1-night accommodation reservation was made. When I tried to extend it to 3 nights at the front desk, they seemed confused and mentioned that I might have to change rooms, which was very unclear. Despite this being the accommodation's mistake, the woman at the front desk had an unpleasant attitude, which surprised me. I travel across the whole country every week and stayed at a related accommodation in Beppu, Oita last week for 2 nights, where the service was completely different. Other staff members were very kind and helpful. After all, the front desk represents the hotel. The same meal was served for all 3 nights; staying for just 2 nights would have been enough. At the large public bath, someone placed a chair meant for resting into the outdoor bath itself—this shocked me. Overall, there were many dissatisfactions left behind from my stay.

    The staff is excellent!

    We stayed for one night and two days, and we were very satisfied with the high-quality service provided by this large-scale Hotel, which exceeded our expectations. The staff's dedication to their duties was impressive. For instance, a staff member cleaning the table next to us at the restaurant wiped it down meticulously, and when we checked out and passed a female staff member in the hallway, she bowed deeply and expressed her gratitude. The Room was impeccably clean, with not a speck of dust even under the bed, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay. We would love to stay here again if given the opportunity.

    It became a wonderful memory of our family trip.

    This was our second stay. This time, we stayed with my husband's siblings and mother. They mentioned that the room with a great view and the bath were wonderful. They also enjoyed the buffet, saying it was delicious with a variety of favorite dishes to choose from. The Aizu cuisine was highly praised, leaving them very satisfied. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. Staying here with family members felt very reassuring. We would love to stay again if we have another opportunity. Thank you for taking such good care of us!

    Excellent.

    Stayed in the Tower building. The view was great, and the open-air bath was excellent. The buffet had a wide variety, including local dishes, with great taste and plenty of dessert options. It was a wonderful trip. If I had to mention one thing, having two towels would have been better.

    It was excellent.

    Due to the suspension of the Shinkansen, my check-in was delayed. Although I called ahead and had given up on dinner, I was kindly guided to a meal before check-in and enjoyed it thoroughly. The Onsen was wonderful, with gender-swapped access between night and morning, allowing me to enjoy both experiences. For women, there were makeup removers, all necessary amenities, and even a high-quality hairdryer available, which was delightful. The breakfast was also incredibly delicious. Thank you so much for your hospitality. I would love to visit again!

    I hesitated to call the front desk, but when I did, a kind lady listened to my concerns. A staff member came promptly to check and handled the situation quickly. I was deeply impressed by their excellent and swift response. The bath was relaxing, and the meals were delicious. I will definitely stay here again!

    Freshly fried tempura, delicious!

    I usually don't enjoy buffets, but I was very satisfied with both breakfast and dinner. However, it was disappointing that the rice in the rice balls wasn't tasty. It was also unfortunate that the bath time was restricted due to overlapping with a school trip group, and the bath became crowded afterward.

    The room was not sel...

    The room was not selectable, but we stayed in a Japanese-Western style twin bed room. There was unlimited coffee and juice available until 6 PM, which we enjoyed. Dinner was a buffet with one alcoholic drink per person included, featuring local Aizu cuisine, sushi, freshly prepared roast beef and shabu-shabu meat dishes, as well as desserts—it was excellent. Breakfast also offered great satisfaction with a variety of buffet dishes including "morning ramen." The Onsen had about three open-air baths, and post-bath treats like ice pops and cold drinks were available, adding to the satisfaction. All this for just under 20,000 yen for two people (tax included) is unbelievable value—we definitely want to visit again!

    I stayed for two nig...

    I stayed for two nights. On the first night, it was cold, so I called the front desk, and they promptly brought an electric heater. The air conditioning is centrally controlled throughout the hotel, so individual temperature adjustment in the room is not possible. This was very helpful—thank you. The shuttle service driver was polite, well-dressed, and left a good impression. However, there were many large tour groups typical of big hotels, so I think individual travelers like us might want to avoid this place. Although we knew both breakfast and dinner would be buffet-style with a wide variety of options, the taste was underwhelming. There were also some issues with cleanliness—a small spoon had leftover residue on it, trays weren’t wiped clean properly, and there were cobwebs in the corner of a window in the elevator hall leading to guest rooms. I chose this hotel because of its amazing views from the outdoor bath. Overall, it was a slightly disappointing stay.

    The open-air bath and the view from the room were excellent.

    I chose this place because of its good reviews. The open-air bath had a great view. The men's and women's baths switch between morning and evening, so you can enjoy the sauna in one of them. Meals are served buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner, featuring a variety of dishes including local specialties from Fukushima Prefecture. While the overall taste was average for a buffet, the Kitakata ramen and dessert pudding were rich and exceptionally delicious.

    First time in Fukushima

    Long-awaited Accommodation Tohokan, Higashiyama Onsen The Onsen was amazing! (Sora no Yu) The food was delicious! (Wide variety of dishes) The Room was clean and comfortable! (3rd floor) The only regret is not being able to see the night view of Aizu city from a higher floor.

    The Onsen was excellent.

    Great value on weekdays.

    I stayed on May 6th. The bath was always kept clean, and the room was thoroughly cleaned as well. The meals were buffet-style, allowing me to choose what I liked, and they were delicious. Weekday rates are affordable and offer great value for money. However, the Wi-Fi connection was unstable, so it would be appreciated if this could be improved a bit more.
