    一人旅も二人旅も大好き

    Thank you very much for your kind support!

    I stayed for one night with my sister. The Room was very clean and well maintained, easy to use, and we enjoyed the in-Room bath many times (we even did laundry!). We had our meals at a charming traditional house restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. Everything was delicious, right up to the final sushi! Thanks to the warm hospitality, we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. We also really enjoyed the snacks and gelato provided in the Room. We were blessed with great weather, making it a wonderful trip. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us—we will definitely be back!

    I’m satisfied.

    I look for a Ryokan with great food. Even in Nagano, without the sea, the sashimi was delicious and I was very satisfied with the sushi at the end of the meal. Everything we ate was excellent. Thank you to all the staff. I will visit again.

    A cozy, home-like accommodation.

    This was my third stay, returning for the first time in a year. Even though some time had passed since my last visit, everything felt just the same—I was welcomed warmly like family, and I’m truly grateful for your hospitality. The Room is comfortable and easy to relax in, and the Onsen has outstanding water quality. I was also delighted that checkout has been extended to 11:00. Above all, my favorite part is the food. Even though Nagano isn’t on the coast, I was able to fully enjoy incredibly fresh seafood, making this a deeply satisfying stay. The only downside is that it’s quite remote, so it’s difficult to visit often. But I heard you’re planning to build new villas as well, so I’ll definitely come back to see everyone again! Thank you so much for taking such great care of me this time too.

    Pros and Cons of a Mismatch

    A renovated traditional house available for exclusive rental. I was surprised by the mismatch of having an all-foreign staff. Although their Japanese was halting, they worked very hard and left a good impression. However, it was difficult for them to provide attentive, anticipatory service. I would like to see a Japanese staff member added as a leader. The food was heavily seasoned, and even the flower arrangements looked odd—disappointing. There was no pickled ginger served with the sushi, and even when I asked for it, they didn’t understand—an amusing mishap. The free-flowing Onsen was great.

    Relax in the Onsen and enjoy delicious cuisine.

    Both the Room and the restaurant had a Japanese-modern design, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. The Onsen water was excellent, and because it is free-flowing, I was able to enjoy it many times. It had been a while since I last enjoyed truly delicious Japanese cuisine. The chef is licensed to prepare fugu, and the fried fugu they prepared was exceptionally good. Next time, I’d love to try the full fugu course. I also heard that they ran a sushi restaurant for many years—no wonder the sashimi, carefully selected with the chef’s expert eye, was outstanding. The Japanese dishes and sushi prepared by the brothers were absolutely superb. A sushi course would be wonderful as well. This is an Accommodation where I’ll continue looking forward to the food in the future, and it has become one of the places I’d like to stay again. I had a truly enjoyable time. Thank you very much to all of the staff.

    Perfect for families!

    We stayed here to celebrate our child’s exam success. The international staff were very friendly and attentive, and we had no problems at all during our stay. The Room was spacious with multiple rooms, so each family member could relax in their own comfortable spot. The bath was also an Onsen, so pleasant that we went in again and again. Since check-out the next day is at 10:00, it was a shame that the fun time ended so quickly. I wish check-out were at 11:00. The meals were piled high with our favorites—crab, sashimi, and sushi—so much that we couldn’t finish everything. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving most of the meat. On our way out, we received bottled tea with a heartfelt message from the staff written on it, which made us very happy. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    I want to live in a house like this!

    We stayed with our 5-year-old and 1-year-old, and we were extremely satisfied! The building was wonderful; while the nostalgic main building was charming, the cottage was truly amazing. The spacious ceiling, built-in furniture, and bright kitchen made us dream of having a home with such a layout in the future! The staff were all very friendly, making it a comfortable experience for our family. They lent toys to keep our children entertained so we could focus on meals and even interacted warmly with them. Our kids quickly grew attached to them. It was such a pleasant stay that we would love to plan a multiple night stay next time!

    Thank you for staying with us again.

    We stayed at this accommodation about a month ago, and it has quickly become a favorite for both my spouse and me, so we immediately made our next reservation. We were warmly welcomed beyond our expectations, making this stay even more satisfying than the last. We are deeply grateful for the heartfelt hospitality from the head chef and all the staff. The meals were exceptional as always, especially the sashimi platter served on a newly introduced kumiko craft plate—it was truly stunning. From the cuisine to hospitality, room, and onsen, everything was perfect at this top-notch accommodation. As a side note, we also managed to see the monkeys at Jigokudani Monkey Park this time, which we missed during our previous visit—making it an unforgettable memory. We will definitely return in another season! Thank you very much for your wonderful service!

    It was new and clean.

    We visited during the Obon holiday. The detached Room was new, clean, spacious, and the children were very satisfied. The restaurant was a relocated and renovated traditional Japanese house, offering a very spacious and open atmosphere. The food was delightful, especially the sushi at the end of the meal. We would love to visit again if we have the chance.

    My husband was able ...

    My husband was able to take time off at short notice, so we stayed for two nights as a family. We were actually torn between a few Accommodations, but choosing Hotarutei Villas turned out to be absolutely the right decision. First, the Room: it was simple and thoughtfully designed with no unnecessary items, and the warmth of the wood made it a truly lovely space. It felt almost like a Vacation Rental—there were cooking utensils and seasonings (oil, salt, pepper) provided, so on one of the two nights we cooked something simple ourselves for dinner. The private open-air Onsen in the Room was perfect in both water quality and temperature; every member of our family soaked 3–4 times a day. We had both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant next to our Villa. Dinner was a generous course featuring fresh seafood and plenty of meat. Everything tasted wonderful, and even the tableware was beautiful—something we could enjoy with our eyes as well. At breakfast, each of us was served rice cooked in an individual pot; it was so delicious it took our breath away, and waiting for it to finish cooking right in front of us felt like pure luxury. The Room itself, the Facility offerings, the Onsen, and the meals were all outstanding—but what deserves special mention is how exceptional the staff are. Even casual comments were clearly shared among all staff members; they weren’t bound by rigid manuals but responded flexibly as individuals; and their sense of distance—attentive without being intrusive—was impeccable. We love traveling and often stay at many different types of Hotels, but this hospitality is on par with—or even beyond—a club floor at a city Hotel in Tokyo. This is an Accommodation where you can experience genuine warmth from staff who are rich in spirit—not service that feels merely trained. We heard that there are more international guests in winter. As a Japanese guest myself, imagining visitors to Japan experiencing Hotarutei’s outstanding hospitality—and carrying it home as part of their memories—makes me feel truly proud. I’d love to enjoy an open-air Onsen while watching snowfall in winter… but I don’t want to wait that long—I’d like to return again soon.

    Wonderful Staff

    Thank you very much for your hospitality the other day. Staying at the villa of Hotarutei, which I had always wanted to visit, became a wonderful birthday gift for my husband. I deeply appreciate the thoughtfulness of all the staff. Chef, thank you for accommodating my requests; the meals were delicious. The quality of the Onsen water was also exceptional. I look forward to visiting again soon!

    It was the best accommodation.

    This accommodation was a fantastic find! As mentioned in other reviews, there are foreign staff members, but communication was smooth, and their hospitality made for a pleasant experience. The traditional house-style main restaurant had a charming atmosphere, and the villa we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The room's open-air bath had excellent water quality and was very relaxing. Above all, the highlight was the food. It was astonishing to enjoy such fresh and delicious seafood in Nagano, which is far from the sea. Even though I usually wait about a year before revisiting any accommodation I like, this place became an instant favorite—I immediately made my next reservation! I look forward to staying here again soon; thank you in advance for your hospitality on my next visit!

    Accommodation for 4 adults and 1 child

    The staff's attentiveness to babies and their excellent service from arrival to checkout were impressive. The team consists of both international and Japanese staff, and they were all very accommodating. International staff members can communicate in Japanese without any issues, so those who speak basic English will feel comfortable as well. Special care during meals was particularly noteworthy; they even helped look after our 1-year-old child, which was a great help. The meals were exceptional, with the chef showcasing ingredients during dinner. Both the food and the Facility exceeded expectations. I highly recommend this place for couples or families with children, especially since it offers private rental accommodations.

    A pleasant space

    It was just a one-night stay, but the meals and service were excellent, and I was able to spend my time comfortably. In an onsen area in the snow country, it can be difficult to find a property with an onsen in the guest room, Western-style rooms, and Western breakfast, but I thought the charming "Wa" traditional Japanese house and the "Western" villa, which is the accommodation building at Hotarutei, create a very luxurious space.

    It was the best experience of my life!

    A luxurious and wonderful Room that's too good for just one night. Everything is clean and flawless. While the balcony is visible from the main road, there is minimal foot or car traffic, so it wasn't a concern at all. I fell in love with this small yet sophisticated space! I will definitely stay here again!
