    About the meals

    This was my fourth stay at a Mercure Hotel, but the seasoning of the food felt like “international cuisine”? Even the Japanese dishes somehow didn’t taste quite right... This is just my personal preference, but I would have preferred more standard flavors. When I asked if they could serve the hamburger with only the patty (no bun), I was told they couldn’t. In the end I had to leave the bun, and since I didn’t want to waste food for eco reasons, it was disappointing. Other Mercure properties have accommodated this request. Dinner operated on a 90-minute time limit, and it was nice that we could go at whatever time we liked. For those who drink alcohol, the all-you-can-drink option and affordable stay are great, but for non-drinkers the food selection felt a bit lacking. The Hotel itself was clean and comfortable, so I plan to try other Mercure locations again. Thank you for your hospitality.

    It’s a shame—if only the operations could be improved.

    We stayed here on the last weekend of August for a family trip with relatives. When we informed the hotel in advance that one of our aunts has difficulty walking, they kindly prepared a Room right next to the elevator. Our whole family was thrilled with the suite and we were able to relax. However, since the lounge, pool, Onsen, and restaurant are all concentrated on the first floor, we constantly had to wait for the elevator, and our aunt ended up having to stand in the hallway for quite a long time. At the restaurant as well, when we went after 6:00 pm once dinner service had started, there was an extremely long line and nowhere to sit while waiting. Guests who entered at 5:00 pm finished their meals first, and we were finally seated after 6:30 pm. Even with a buffet-style setup, we expected that guests would be asked roughly what time they planned to dine at check-in so numbers could be allocated accordingly, so having to line up without any clear outlook was tough. The Onsen was very pleasant and comfortable as well, so if these points could be improved, we would like to stay again.

    I stayed here again.

    The Room was spacious, and I slept well in the bed. However, noise from the floor above carried through. The sound of children running around really echoed in my head. Since it was summer vacation, I hesitated to complain, and it was still early. Even after an hour it didn’t stop… It seemed they weren’t aware the noise was carrying. When I called the front desk, they responded immediately and the footsteps stopped. There was nowhere to sit for the welcome drink. Last time I could use an outdoor bench, but this time someone in a wet swimsuit was sitting there, so I couldn’t use it. I wondered if they could increase seating capacity a bit more. Overall, I’m satisfied and would like to visit again.

    Excellent!

    This was our family’s first trip to Kushimoto. We made a Reservation for an ocean-view Room on a high floor, and we were lucky to have great weather—we even got to see a beautiful sunrise! The Room was very spacious, the bed was comfortable, and everything felt clean. The yukata fabric was sturdy and not see-through, and it had no odor at all (the highest compliment). I’m sensitive to smells—both unpleasant odors and strong detergent fragrances—so regardless of the Hotel’s grade I usually assume I won’t be able to use them, but this time I used the yukata a lot! Even though we chose an affordable Plan, dinner on the second night and breakfast on the third day were included as well, and we were surprised by the wide variety of dishes. Instead of bottled water in the Room, there was a water dispenser in the elevator hall (with hot water too), which we really appreciated. The bath area and changing room were also spacious, so we could truly relax. Bathing hours started early in the morning and ran late into the night, which gave us plenty of flexibility. We could adjust the air conditioning exactly as we liked—another reason it was such a comfortable stay. The staff members we passed in the hallways greeted us naturally, creating a refreshing atmosphere throughout. If I had to mention one thing: when using the Room slippers, I hesitated slightly wondering if they had been sanitized. At other Mercure properties I’ve stayed at before, this never crossed my mind. Overall, we were extremely satisfied! Thank you very much!

    The third Mercure.

    This was our third stay at Mercure. This time we booked a special Plan for two nights, with meals included only on the second night. Between booking and arrival, we were told a few times that the price had dropped, so we rebooked each time. Thanks to that, we were able to stay for an amazing price that didn’t feel like a two-night stay—much appreciated. Another big plus: at the last minute, I noticed that business-style Rooms were available at the same rate. On a whim I asked if we could switch Rooms if one was available, and they said yes! We often bring our laptops and end up working, so we loved the large desk, comfortable chair, and power strip. The Onsen and sauna were also great. (My husband wished the cold bath were colder; I was fascinated by the different stone patterns in the open-air bath.) The food options were plentiful and delicious—we ate way too much. My only regret is that even though I brought my swimsuit, I didn’t use the pool! Overall, it was a very satisfying stay.

    This Summer’s Family Trip

    It was a three-generation trip with my parents, myself, and my son. The buffet-style meals allowed each of us to eat and drink what we liked, and although there were many guests due to the summer holidays, we were still able to fully enjoy the Onsen in the spacious large public bath. However, the weather wasn’t great on both days of our trip, so it was disappointing that we couldn’t go sightseeing in Kushimoto or do any stargazing.

    Onsen

    The Onsen water temperature was extremely low. The shampoo and conditioner provided were also poor quality and left my hair very dry and stiff. I would have appreciated having facial cleanser available as well.

    Enjoy summer vacation with your grandkids!

    We stayed in the Junior Suite (Japanese-Western style) and it was great, but even with the air conditioner on, it didn’t cool very well and the room felt hot. Still, we had a fun trip!

    Great value for money and a beautiful view.

    I’ve stayed at Mercure properties in various locations, and the open-air Onsen bath here seemed to use an unusually low amount of chlorine. There was almost no chlorine smell, and no odor lingered on my body, which I really liked this time. However, since there is no roof to provide shade, I avoided it during the morning hours when the sun was strong. The Room air conditioner worked very well. The bidet seat function worked extremely poorly on contact, so I hope the toilet facilities will be improved. Considering how affordable the Accommodation Fee is, I think the meals are actually quite good. There are still Mercure locations across The whole country that I haven’t tried yet, so I’d like to stay at them as well.

    Despite it being mid-July, the pool was under restrictions and could not be used during our three-night stay. Also, a car is required to get to the beach. View from a mountain-side Room (5th floor).

    Satisfied

    The view from the ocean-side Room was great. You can see Hashigui-iwa Rocks. Both breakfast and dinner offered a wide variety of options, and we were very satisfied. The large public bath was spacious and nice as well. Since it was the weekend, it was lively with many children. We would like to stay again.

    Excellent value for money!

    The level of satisfaction at this price point is amazing! The public spaces and the Room in particular were thoughtfully designed overall—modern, clean, and very comfortable. If you’re looking to enjoy the Accommodation itself as the main focus, the meals, large public bath, and Room atmosphere might feel a bit lacking. However, given the location in Kushimoto and that we visited mainly for diving this time, we were extremely satisfied with the outstanding value for money and service that exceeded our expectations! We’d love to make this our regular Accommodation for future diving trips to Kushimoto.

    A truly wonderful stay.

    Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style with a great variety of dishes, and everything was very delicious. The front desk staff seemed a little curt, but the Shuttle Service driver was very kind and shared lots of helpful local information. The gentleman at the restaurant reception and the lady at the shop also greeted us with warm smiles and pleasant service. I sincerely thank all the staff who took care of us for giving us such a wonderful time. There are just two points I noticed: The hallway on our floor and our Room had an indistinct odor, so it would be appreciated if you could open the windows during cleaning to air things out. The Room slippers felt quite worn out, so we would be grateful if disposable slippers could be provided. Other than that, it was an excellent and highly satisfying Hotel stay! Thank you very much.

    After a bath

    Drinks were provided at the entrance to the bath, but there were only hot options and no cold beverages. Ice cream was only available from 8:00 p.m., so I couldn’t have any because I used the bath earlier. That was disappointing.

    We were very satisfied with the all-inclusive package.

    I stayed for one night while sightseeing in Kumano for the first time in two years. I was very satisfied last time, so I stayed again this time. Both breakfast and dinner offer a wide variety of options, and I was extremely satisfied. Alcohol is included in the price, so it’s all-you-can-drink—excellent value. The Onsen also has an open-air bath, and I enjoyed it many times. Because it is located on a hill, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the famous Hashigui-iwa rocks from the Room. I was very satisfied again this time. The sunset view is also spectacular.

    All-inclusive

    I was dissatisfied with the shop hours. It wasn’t open at check-in, and I think it was only open from after 4:00 PM until around 9:00 PM. It also wasn’t open in the morning—only from the evening—so I couldn’t buy any souvenirs. I would like it to be open from check-in and in the morning before check-out. The lounge was very nice. Thank you.

    I stayed here while visiting the Kumano Sanzan. The views were excellent, and the meals had a nice creative touch.

    The all-inclusive package was fun.

    I thought it was great that beer and plum wine were available as a kind of welcome drink. The view is also wonderful, as you can see the sunrise over Hashigui-iwa. There were also ice pops available after the bath. However, it was disappointing that beer was only served until 5:00 p.m. It would be perfect if you could have one after bathing. I think the meals are good with a wide variety of options. I was happy they served Eggs Benedict and cheese in the morning. That said, while having a time limit is fine, guests can come at any time, so it gets very crowded. It would be more relaxing if they managed it more evenly—for example, assigning 30-minute slots (and asking at check-in what time you’d like). If you don’t go right when service starts, you have to find an open seat yourself, and from a distance it’s hard to tell whether a table is occupied or not. There aren’t enough staff serving, so they can’t keep up. Unless guests clear plates themselves, tables don’t get cleared for quite a while, which was disappointing. The shampoo amenities in the large public bath and in the Room were different, and the ones in the Room didn’t feel very good quality. There were no shower caps in the large public bath, and no towels provided there either, so if you bathe multiple times you run short on towels. If towels aren’t provided there anyway, I’d prefer thin quick-drying Onsen-style towels that you can take home rather than standard Hotel towels. Lastly—personally—if you’re going to offer soft-serve ice cream, I’d like it to taste better. It was very sweet and oily with no milky flavor; I was really disappointed.

    The drain pipe in Room 511 is clogged. Everything else was better than before.

    We were able to relax and unwind at our own pace.

    Just as the Reviews said, the staff were very attentive. The view from the open-air bath was beautiful, and the food was delicious with a wide variety of dishes. The price wasn’t too high either, so we were very satisfied. It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

    About the All-Inclusive Plan

    Beer in the lounge was only available until 5:00 PM. I was looking forward to it, so it was disappointing. I had booked a larger corner Room, but when I went to the assigned Room, it was a standard one. I went to the front desk right away and was told it had been a mistake. The Room itself was spacious and nice.

    I stayed here again.

    After staying with you last year, we decided to visit again this year as a family. We were familiar with getting around the property, so my elderly parents were able to stay safely and relax at ease. One evening, we casually stopped by the first-floor lounge and enjoyed drinks and snacks while chatting as a family and looking out at the lights outside the window—it became a wonderful memory for us.     Please be considerate of elderly guests.

    I had an unpleasant experience at the Hotel welcome drink bar. I was watching from some distance, but it seemed that a staff member (a woman in black) was warning an elderly woman who appeared hard of hearing. I repeatedly heard the elderly guest loudly asking, “Please speak closer to my ear.” I’m not sure, but she may have put snacks into a paper cup. To be honest, I also mistakenly put snacks into the paper cup meant for drinks. Since I was far away, I only heard the voices, but it didn’t feel very pleasant. It felt uncomfortable over something as small as snacks. On the other hand, in the restaurant, staff came to clear dishes when they noticed them and were very pleasant.

    Affordable!

    As a sauna lover, the comfort of the sauna greatly affects my overall impression of the Hotel. The towels laid out are extremely hot, so it takes courage to sit down. If you could provide individual mats, it would make the experience much more comfortable. Please consider this. The price is reasonable, so I would like to stay again.

    A Hotel where you can relax and unwind

    The all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink options were very helpful. Otherwise, everything was average overall. I should have eaten lunch before going to the Hotel! There aren’t many places to eat near the Hotel (there was an Osaka Ohsho near Kushimoto Station, but it’s about a 20-minute walk), so waiting until dinner was tough. It’s disappointing that the Hotel doesn’t offer any light snacks. Also, when I arrived at the Hotel, the smell of disinfectant was too strong, so I escaped to the poolside (maybe it can’t be helped for infection prevention?).

    This is our fifth Mercure stay on a family trip with parents and spouses, and it’s probably our third favorite.

    The Room was spacious, the large public bath was also big, and the buffet—especially dishes like shabu-shabu—was tasty, so I’d say it was above average overall. The pillow felt flimsy, and it was disappointing that the restroom on our floor hadn’t been cleaned once. The in-room toilet area feels a bit dated, but it was acceptable. I would have preferred a larger TV screen. The lounge also felt a little short on seating. Given that this is a well-known tuna region, it would have been even better if the tuna sashimi had been tastier. I’d also be happy to see more salad options. Compared with other Mercure properties where there were more wine selections during meals, the limited variety here was disappointing.
