The Hotel lived up to its reputation.

The building is new and very clean. We used the lounge, and the food provided was delicious. It was helpful to be able to check how crowded the large public bath was while staying in our Room. The Room and the large public bath might feel a bit small, but we had a very comfortable stay. Above all, we were surprised by how affordable it was. If you’re going to Nara, I recommend Novotel.

    No way!

I made a Reservation for the 2nd anniversary celebration. It was quite expensive, but the club lounge advertised an expanded selection of sake and hors d’oeuvres, as well as free-flow Champagne, so I arrived with high expectations—only to be disappointed. The food was underwhelming. They said the Champagne was Laurent-Perrier, but it tasted nothing like the refined flavor I know. I was also disappointed to see guests in sandals and even Room slippers in the lounge. I’m sorry, but although I had future Reservations, I have decided to Cancel the Reservation. Goodbye.

    Excellent value for money

The only drawback of this Hotel was that after checkout, the tower parking operator was not at the parking area, so it took some time to retrieve our car; otherwise, considering the price, it was a more than satisfying stay. In particular, I was happy to find Asuka Nabe at the breakfast buffet. I have visited Nara many times but had never tried Asuka Nabe before, and since it was summer I assumed there wouldn’t be any hot pot—so it was an unexpected pleasure to experience it at this Hotel’s breakfast. Asuka Nabe had a creamy milk base with the aroma of burdock root, creating a gentle harmony in a broth filled with chicken and vegetables such as carrots and Chinese cabbage.

    Club Lounge and In-Room Housekeeping

    - The Club Lounge had a nice atmosphere and the items provided were high quality, but the service was very unpleasant. The male staff member’s language and manner felt unfriendly and cold, with no sense of hospitality. He seemed to be chatting happily with people he appeared to know. It was disappointing, because the space and food were excellent. - The Room linens were clean, but there was dust in several places—especially around where the coffee machine was placed—so I hesitated to put my personal belongings down. - The restaurant buffet offerings were very high quality, but I would have been happier with a bit more variety. Overall, I think it’s good value for money, so I’d like to return with expectations for the lounge.

This is one of the better hotels in Nara.

The service for Accommodation guests was good, but the restaurant service was not very good. Also, there were not enough amenities. An explanation about the amenities is needed at check-in.

Novotel Nara Hotel—my grandchild proudly told us about their summer vacation trip from daycare.

My grandchild liked it so much that they even bragged about it at daycare. “Novotel” was easy for them to say, and the staff were very kind to children.

    Guests have poor manners.

I have been staying here since the Hotel opened two years ago. I like the facilities, including the guest rooms, but there are many guests with poor manners. I have repeatedly raised this with the Hotel, yet no rules are established and it is simply overlooked. [Fitness Room] I have used it several times in the past, but even when people come in just to mess around, no measures are taken. The fitness room rules state that guests must wear training clothes and shoes as “appropriate attire,” and that use is limited to guests above a specified age. Last night, a boy who looked to be in lower elementary school and an elderly woman wearing the Hotel’s roomwear were both using the treadmill while wearing white guest-room slippers. I seriously questioned their common sense. I have reported similar cases before, but nothing has been done. Please change operations so that not just anyone can enter with a guest-room key. For example, have staff at the front desk confirm appropriate attire and then issue a dedicated access card key for entry. When people come in as if it were a game, it disrupts those who want to train seriously. [Large Public Bath] Even though there is a carpet at the entrance with a “No Slippers” pictogram, there is still no effective response to inconsiderate guests who walk into the changing area wearing slippers. I reported this to the Hotel before as well, but nothing has been done. It is also mentioned in other Review(s), yet still no action has been taken. People walk barefoot in the changing area after bathing, yet others enter wearing slippers they have worn throughout the building—showing poor hygiene awareness. Instead of relying only on pictograms, please post large multilingual signs on the locked entrance door to the large public bath stating: “Please remove your slippers.” If cultural differences are being cited as an excuse, then clear written notices are necessary. Around the sinks and water dispenser area in the large public bath as well, some guests leave trash lying around instead of throwing it away properly. I felt that overall etiquette was extremely poor. There are many self-centered guests here, and I always end up having an unpleasant experience. From a guest’s perspective, a Hotel that overlooks this behavior and does not take all reasonable measures is not putting guests first. Finally: In the past, staff would greet me when we passed each other inside; however, this time two staff members passed by without any greeting. Is greeting really so difficult?

This is my third stay this year, and it’s my regular Accommodation in Nara. As always, it was a comfortable space and I had a very fulfilling time. This time, I was also able to visit the art exhibition being held in the Hotel’s social lounge, which made me very satisfied. I’ll visit again at some point later this year. Thank you as always.

    Very good.

This is my fourth repeat stay this year booked through IKYU. The Room is spacious and has a separate washbasin, making it very comfortable for me. In addition, all staff members were wonderful—at the front desk, in the parking guidance, at breakfast service, and on the rooftop—to the point that I almost felt concerned they might be overextending themselves. I have already made my next Reservation through IKYU as well.

This was my first stay. As it is a new Hotel, everything is very well done. It was convenient to use the on-site multi-story parking garage, and the staff kindly assisted with bringing the car in and out. The Room is also well designed and practical. I had a comfortable stay. Thank you very much.

I would like to stay here again.

The property was clean both inside and out, the Facility was more than adequate, and the attention to amenities and in-room items made for a very comfortable stay. Since I had no particular opportunity to experience customer service, I gave it 4 stars. Perhaps because it was during peak hours for using the large public bath, the washbasin area was a bit messy, which was slightly disappointing, but still within an acceptable range. I used the breakfast buffet. I could tell there was care put into it, such as dishes made with Yamato vegetables; however, since I had high expectations for kakinoha-zushi (persimmon leaf sushi), I was disappointed with the actual taste and rated it 4 stars. Overall, my satisfaction level is high, and if I have another chance to stay in Nara, I would definitely like to use this property again.

I believe we need to provide customer service training for staff and review the daily workflow.

Upon arrival: The woman directing us to the overflow parking lot did not greet us (no “hello” or “welcome”) and gave a mechanical explanation, as if it was a hassle. Before check-in: No one greeted us with “hello” or “welcome.” Check-in: The male staff member at the front desk did not greet us. He spoke quietly and explained everything while looking down. Room: It was clean, but the sheets and covers had an odor. Large public bath: Instructions on how to use it and guidance were insufficient. Some foreign guests entered in a group of nearly 10 at once, got in without rinsing first, did not wash at all, left the changing area soaked with water, and stayed in the changing area for a long time. Several female guests from a club activity occupied the massage chairs continuously. Breakfast: No greeting such as “good morning.” There was quite a wait, but no explanation or apology. Staff only walked around checking the situation; they did not clear tables or wipe them down—and only started wiping when seating guests. Spoons and other items were not replenished. For example, kakinoha-zushi was dried out and hard, which raised concerns about quality control. Check-out: Of course there was no greeting such as “thank you” or “have a nice day.” Even their responses to Reviews are mechanical so I doubt anything will change, but I am writing this anyway. It was unpleasant and extremely disappointing—so much so that even one point feels too high.

    I stayed at this Hot...

I stayed at this Hotel on a long-overdue trip to Nara with my best friend. Both the Room and the large public bath were great. However, it’s a bit of a walk from Shin-Omiya Station. There is a shuttle bus from Kintetsu-Nara Station, so I think that would be convenient. I didn’t add breakfast to my Reservation and planned to eat breakfast on the day (nearby cafes were closed due to the Obon holidays), but they only offered a buffet, so I decided not to. I had afternoon tea booked at another Hotel for lunch, and a breakfast buffet would have been too heavy for me. It would be even better if there were a simple set menu option. Overall, my stay was comfortable. I just wish the toothbrush wasn’t wooden (it felt uncomfortable in my mouth). Thank you very much.

A relaxing Hotel where you can unwind

Because it’s hot every day, we chose to enjoy a “hotel staycation.” I had stayed here alone before and found the Room clean with great Facilities, so this time we stayed as a family of three. The staff member who assisted us at check-in was extremely pleasant. What concerned me happened after checkout. After placing the Room key card in the fast checkout box and leaving the Hotel, I realized I had left something behind in the Room and came back to retrieve it. I explained the situation at the counter, and they made a new key card for me. When I returned to the Room, the phone rang. Unsure what to do, I answered and was told, “Mr./Ms. XX, your checkout time has passed.” After explaining again and returning to the counter with my belongings, I saw that the person who called was standing right next to the staff member who had made my new key card. There was no apology for this misunderstanding, and I was surprised by how poorly they communicated with each other. At breakfast, there wasn’t a table for three in the restaurant, so a staff member pushed two two-person tables together for us. However, after we went to get food from the buffet and returned to our seats, the tables had been separated again. I noticed similar issues with restaurant service during my previous visit as well. The Hotel is clean with a nice atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again, which made these disappointing experiences stand out even more.

    I expected too much.

I had been interested in this Hotel since it opened. I had set my expectations too high for the lounge, so I was disappointed. However, the Accommodation Fee was acceptable considering it included lounge access. What disappointed me even more was that when I ordered a light meal (a hamburger) at the restaurant, I waited over an hour for it to arrive, and it wasn’t freshly made—it was cold. They remade it after I pointed this out, but I couldn’t believe they served a cold dish after more than an hour from ordering. They did offer one additional dish as an apology, but it made me question how the Hotel is being managed.

    Fourth stay

This time, I stayed for two nights while visiting my hometown with my adult daughter. She’s very trend-conscious, and she was delighted that we could check how crowded the large public bath was on the latest touch panel, and that both the hair dryers and the showers in the large public bath were ReFa. The breakfast buffet also gave us a real sense of local culture, with kakinoha-zushi, chagayu (tea rice porridge), and Narazuke pickles. The only downside was that the chagayu at breakfast on the first day was a bit watery (it was nicely thick and satisfying on the second day). This time, I had drinks at the rooftop lounge for the first time, and it became a special occasion as it was also my first time enjoying alcohol together with my child. Since we used the shuttle bus to Saidaiji Station, it’s disappointing that it will no longer be available. Next time, I’ll stay again in winter.

    Lounge, etc.

I made a Reservation under a Plan that included access to the executive lounge. ○ Lounge There are very few seats, so it is often full. If you go at 3:00 PM you can usually find a seat, but it fills up within 10 minutes. When it’s crowded, usage is apparently limited to one hour, but because there was a long wait I left after 30 minutes. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM there are soft drinks, cake, and snacks. The cake was about 2 cm cubes of frozen cake that hadn’t fully thawed and was still icy. From 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM there are meals, alcohol, and soft drinks. When I went at 5:25 PM it was already full with seven parties waiting. A staff member told me the food might be gone by the time my turn came, so I went to a restaurant near the Hotel for dinner instead. When I returned around 7:30 PM and went back to the lounge, there were five parties waiting. I waited about 20 minutes before I could enter. The food options were curry, chirashi sushi, and salad. It didn’t look like much had sold out, so I’m glad I chose to eat out. In the morning the lounge offers soft drinks only. The selection was like a family restaurant—Pepsi cola, Natchan Orange, etc. Breakfast is served at the first-floor restaurant and costs extra unless you have a breakfast-included Plan. Even if Rooms with lounge access on the 8th and 9th floors are fully booked, I think there should be enough seating capacity for those guests in the lounge itself. As it is now, I don’t think it’s worth paying extra just for lounge access when making a Reservation under this Plan. You can also use the open-top terrace, but you cannot go out in summer or winter. I hope this will be improved somehow. ○ Facility The massage chair in the large public bath area was broken and I almost got injured because of it. There were areas such as a working lounge as well, but no one seemed to be using them. ○ Room I stayed in Room 905; it had a bathtub and was clean overall. There were small noises (creaking sounds near where the TV is placed and slight wall vibrations), so guests who are sensitive to noise may find this difficult. ○ Overall impressions This was Novotel’s second property in Japan and I arrived with high expectations, so many things were disappointing。 I think the staff are doing their best; they seemed overwhelmed dealing with complaints from guests who couldn’t get into the lounge。 The lounge experience was far from what I expected—people spoke loudly and food felt like competition—so it wasn’t relaxing。 This time my stay was inexpensive, but with service like this,a Business Hotel in central Nara would be better。 Because I had been looking forward to this trip,I left feeling disappointed。

    Disappointing Lounge

The lounge staff during my previous stay were excellent, and the lounge food had improved compared with the stay before that, so I was looking forward to this visit as well. However, there was poor coordination between the Reservation team and the front desk, and I ended up having to wait to check in. The front desk staff were polite and helpful. I was asked to wait in the lounge, but the tables were left dirty. They were dirty every time I went, so it felt like the lounge staff simply do not consider cleaning tables part of their job. The wet towels, cups, and coffee beans were not replenished and had run out. The quality of both the food (at tea time and cocktail time) and the staff was worse than last time. At cocktail time, I was fourth in line when service started, but all of the salmon topping on the salmon sushi was already gone—the two guests ahead of me had taken almost all of it. All I could do was laugh, but I think you should reconsider how items are served. Given that the Accommodation rate is low, it may be unavoidable, but compared with before, the lounge service has declined dramatically—very disappointing.

    Over capacity

During parking guidance, no one spoke to us unless we initiated the conversation. Even when we said, “We have a Reservation,” there was not even a simple “Welcome,” which felt uncomfortable. With our club room Reservation, there were three groups waiting to use the lounge. When we entered, there was hardly any food left and nothing was replenished—there wasn’t even ice. Even after asking staff, it did not come out promptly. When another group who were ninth in line after us entered the lounge, I believe there were less than 30 minutes left until closing, and there was still no food available. We felt sorry for them. It may have been because it was during summer vacation, but it was disappointing.

Amazing value for money. Everything was very clean and had a great atmosphere! The burgers were incredibly delicious. Thank you very much. The club lounge was quite crowded, and the food wasn’t being replenished in time. In the morning, there were no cups, so some guests couldn’t get drinks. I felt the restocking could have been better. There was some shaking during the night that felt like an earthquake, which was a bit scary.

    Second stay

This time, I stayed with lounge access, but I was concerned that there were many children during the 5:30 PM time slot. If I remember correctly, children were not supposed to be allowed in the lounge from 5:30 PM. At breakfast as well, there were loud screams from children, and I could not enjoy my meal in a calm atmosphere.

    Disappointing

A mismatch in what “executive” should feel like. I expected Hotel-level dining quality, but this was disappointing. The Facility is new and reasonably well equipped, but overall—service included—it fell below expectations. I’ve also stayed at the affiliated Grand Mercure, and that one felt better.

    The Hotel was very c...

The Hotel was very clean, and its modern, calming design was appealing. The Room was well equipped, and it was quiet so we could relax and take our time. The front desk staff and parking staff were very courteous. As it was during a holiday period, the club lounge was also lively with many guests. Perhaps because of that, there were a few moments when the lounge service felt somewhat stressful. There were no staff at the lounge reception—only a check-in machine—and some guests seemed unsure what to do. Both bottles of sparkling wine were empty, so I asked for them to be replenished, but nothing happened for over 10 minutes; only after asking again did someone finally respond. The same happened when cutlery ran out—the response took time, and in both cases there wasn’t even a simple “Thank you for waiting” after replenishment, which was disappointing. I also think one reason operations didn’t run smoothly is that the wine station is placed where it’s hard for staff to notice (right next to the entrance). At check-in, we were told, “It will be crowded today, so please limit lounge use to one hour.” When we went to the lounge it was full; we checked in (we were second in line), but since we didn’t know when we would be called via LINE, we couldn’t go out or even take a shower and ended up waiting in our Room for an hour. Since cocktail hour gets especially busy, I think it would be better to implement two fixed one-hour sessions from the start so guests can use their time more effectively. If operations and staff attentiveness improve, this could become an even more wonderful Hotel.

Outstanding value for money, with all the essential Facilities you need.

This was our second stay, following last year. [Location] - The nearest station is Shin-Omiya Station, one stop from Kintetsu Nara Station, about 600 m away. If you walk straight along the road in front of the Hotel, it’s about 2–3 km to Nara Park, where many of Nara’s main sightseeing spots are集中—so unless it’s midsummer heat or heavy rain, walking is doable. Heijo Palace Site Historical Park was around 1.5 km away, which was perfect for us to enjoy a relaxed morning run in the cooler hours. [Facilities] - Since this was our second visit—and last time we had to wait for an available locker during busy hours (especially on the women’s side)—we didn’t use the large public bath this time. You can check how crowded it is from your Room, but a few times we went when it showed “available” and found it still crowded. On the same floor as the large public bath there is also a training room and two free massage chairs. - Perhaps because it’s a French-brand Hotel, the interior has a stylish atmosphere overall. There is also a bar and dining area on the first floor. [Room] - We booked a Room with a shower booth, so we had no problem rinsing off without using the large public bath. Even when Rooms have bathtubs, they’re often unit baths combined with the toilet—if that means washing yourself in the tub area anyway, we find a separate shower booth much more convenient. - We stayed in a Standard Twin with shower booth; perhaps because there wasn’t much unnecessary clutter, it felt even more spacious than its listed 25 m². The toilet is separate, and although the sink area is next to the beds, it’s well partitioned—overall very comfortable and thoughtfully designed. - Two complimentary bottles of water were provided in the refrigerator. [Staff] - Both this time and last time we were assisted by international staff at reception; their Japanese was fluent and communication was easy. Since we paid by card in advance, checkout was simple—just drop your key into the box near the entrance. [Price] - For two people for one night with No Meals Included—even on a Friday before a long weekend—it was in the ¥8,000 range. We stayed four nights total in Nara City at different Hotels each night; compared with higher-priced Hotels than Novotel (in terms of price range), our satisfaction with Facilities was similar—and in some ways Novotel felt even better. It’s only one stop from Kintetsu Nara Station and offers outstanding value for money. With Accommodation prices rising these days, this place delivered excellent cost performance and had everything we needed Facility-wise.

    An easy little luxury getaway

It’s a new, stylish design Hotel, so it felt very pleasant. The scent was also wonderful. The large public bath gets quite crowded around dinner time. There were lines for the washing area and hair dryers. It was quiet in the morning. One of the two massage chairs was out of order. The lounge also seemed to be first-come, first-served. Depending on the weekday and time slot, the bath, lounge, and Facilities can feel almost empty. There were many guests with small children, as well as couples and groups of women traveling together. We often had to wait for the elevator. The elevator hall and corridors were hot. I was able to relax in the lounge during off-peak hours. The breakfast I’d been looking forward to included three kinds of soup dishes, including one hearty hot pot-style option with lots of ingredients. Japanese and Western items were set up in separate areas, which helped ease congestion in a way. There were also fresh juices, offering a great variety. It was about a 20-minute walk one way to Heijō Palace Site and Suzaku Gate. They were illuminated at night, making for a nice walk in the evening. I think it’s a good place to enjoy both the Hotel and its dining. I also wanted to try their hamburger. Since I love aromatherapy, I bought “Nara Scent” as well. It turned into a fun one-night trip!

A Hotel Where You Can Relax in Your Room

It was nice that we could check how crowded it was from the Room and time our bath for a quieter period, and that the drinks in the Room were well stocked. However, the meal we had been looking forward to did not come across as tasty enough because the pizza was only lukewarm. I would also like more attentive service, such as guidance to the dedicated elevator for going to the baths.
