Sounds great.
A three-generation, eight-person trip from the Hanshin area for one night starting August 11. We chose a moonless night because we wanted to see the stars. As we got close to the Accommodation, it seemed we realized, “Oh, this is Tsubaki Onsen.” There were concerns about storms, but we avoided them and were able to see the Milky Way and even shooting stars. The weather forecast said Nanki would be cooler than the Hanshin area—and it really was. At home we hesitate to go outside even at night, but here there was a pleasant breeze, and we relaxed on the balcony watching the stars. The bath was great too. Dinner leaned more toward Japanese cuisine—no fried dishes, tempura, or steak—so I initially thought it might lack impact, but the beef shabu-shabu was outstanding. Every dish was delicious and made us want more rice. That Spanish mackerel (I’m not sure what it was called) was especially good. The Room is officially for up to four guests, but it felt truly luxurious and spacious: a large living area plus a raised tatami space with four futons laid out generously. I would have been fine on the sofa or an extra bed myself. We also had a guest with a disability and entered with a large buggy; this spaciousness really helped. I wondered how in-room dining service would work, but outside the sea-facing living room (which can be locked) there is another space with a table for four—maybe you’d call it a terrace dining room? (and beyond that is the balcony). Service comes directly into this terrace dining room via what seems like a passage between rooms, so you don’t feel self-conscious at all—very well designed. For breakfast we split into groups of four and enjoyed it comfortably with a great view. The young staff member who said he came from Indonesia left a very positive impression. Privacy can also be maintained with blackout curtains separating it from the living room. We wanted all eight of us to eat dinner together, so we made an unreasonable request—and they kindly prepared another place for us. Thank you very much. That said—even if you’re being selfish—the limit is still four per Room for better or worse. Until bedtime all eight of us could relax together in the spacious living room, but dividing Rooms for three generations traveling as eight people was tricky. The laser message system required waiting until our turn came up; since you don’t know exactly when it will appear, some waiting time is needed. Also, perhaps our neighbor forgot to turn off their balcony light—it stayed on all night—so it wasn’t completely dark as hoped; that part was slightly disappointing. The bathtub isn’t continuously fed directly from Onsen water flowing freely into it—but that’s understandable. The hand towel printed with “xyz” names: even just as hand towels they’re fine—but if guests could take them home as souvenirs, that would make us happy. It took about four hours by car from the Hanshin area. On day one we stopped by Oishi Kogen Plateau on the way there. Tonomine Kogen Plateau feels like Obon season crowds might be an issue around then—but Oishi Kogen is at the summit; it had great views and cool air and was really nice overall. On our way back at night we did run into stormy weather around Takashi on Bayshore Route—but overall we were blessed with good weather and had a wonderful trip.

The Room’s semi-open-air Onsen was wonderful.
First of all, the view is amazing—the sea is right in front of your Room, with a wide expanse of blue ocean and sky. The Room is fairly spacious, with plenty of sofa space, so you can relax in different ways. The open-air Onsen has a slightly lower set temperature and silky-smooth water. It felt wonderful, and I stayed in for a long time. From the bath, you see nothing but the sea and sky ahead, with only the sound of the waves. At night, you can see countless stars. It’s incredibly soothing. Meals are served for both breakfast and dinner at the dining area on the ocean side near your Room—of course with an uninterrupted view of the sea and sky. Champagne pairs perfectly. That said, I felt a Western-style breakfast would suit this Hotel better than Japanese-style options. Also, drinks—including those in the refrigerator—were very reasonably priced. There was also a service offering a ride in an open-top Rolls-Royce, but it was extremely hot that day so we passed. The nighttime laser show was a nice event as well.

I finally got to sta...
I finally got to stay at XYZ Speciale, and I came home truly moved. The spacious Room, large terrace, open-air bath with a retractable roof, the meals, and the staff’s hospitality—everything was outstanding. Dinner while watching the sunset was delicious, with a wonderful fusion of Japanese and Western flavors. At night, I’m glad I could share things I usually can’t say through the laser beam message. Above all, we could see a sky full of stars—the Milky Way with the naked eye—and even shooting stars. It was simply incredible. It’s an Accommodation that makes you want to come back right away. The only disappointment was that before going, I watched YouTube videos and blogs and was really looking forward to it—but the drinks in the refrigerator were not complimentary, and there was no plum juice welcome drink. Since the rate was more affordable than usual, it may not have been included this time; however, I wish it had been clearly stated that this Reservation was not eligible. If so, I would have brought extra drinks. Now I understand why the person who picked us up asked why we wanted to stop by a convenience store. Also regarding the open-air bath: getting in and out felt quite deep and difficult. A small step stool would be helpful. Still, I was able to stay at a wonderful Accommodation for the first time in a while and felt truly refreshed. I’ll be back again soon.
