    Clean and comfortable

The cleanliness of the Facility and the courteous service made for a comfortable stay. The lounge was also very pleasant, and we enjoyed it. The Room was compact but well designed and had a relaxing atmosphere. If I had to mention one thing, the meals (teppanyaki dinner and Japanese breakfast) fell slightly below expectations. While the overall level and quality were certainly above average, the meat was quite fatty, and overall it didn’t feel particularly impactful in terms of presentation or content. Also, it would be helpful if you could introduce the menu details on your website as other Accommodations and Hotels do. In addition, while the staff were polite and pleasant, it would be even better with a bit more proactive attentiveness and friendliness—especially around the front desk. Overall, it was a comfortable, relaxing stay with high satisfaction—an Accommodation that felt just as welcoming as its reputation suggests. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

    The food is simply delicious.

Lately we’ve been staying only at Accommodations in Hakone, but Karaku stands out for its outstanding meals—the ingredients and portions are perfect for us as a couple. The large public bath and the in-room open-air bath are both wonderful, and the lounge service is also excellent; we were very satisfied with the high-quality food and drinks. We hope it will continue to be a place where adults can truly relax and enjoy a peaceful moment, so we look forward to further thoughtful touches. Even so, our satisfaction was very high, and we’d love to visit again next year.

    Celebrating My Mother’s Birthday

From central Tokyo, we took an express bus to Gotemba Premium Outlets, then a local bus to Gora Station, and on to Karaku. After all the walking, we rested in our Room for a bit and then went to the large public bath. It was completely empty, so we could soak and relax in peace. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent and a feast for the eyes as well (beautiful tableware, presentation, and colorful seasonal dishes). We had a wonderful time. There was also thoughtful consideration for my mother in the Room shower booth (a bath chair was provided). The open-air bath in the Room was surrounded by greenery; in the morning we could hear birds, and at night insects. It was truly refreshing and stress-relieving. Everything was taken care of—above and beyond. My mother loved everything too, and said she would like to come again while she is still able to walk comfortably. When my mother used the amenities placed in the Room shower booth—(1) toner/lotion & emulsion, and (2) serum & moisturizing cream—she liked them so much that we planned to buy them at checkout... but were told that (1) and (2) are not for sale. She was very disappointed. Other amenities (body soap/body cream/body mist, etc.) were available for purchase. (1) and (2) had a natural aroma scent; they felt deeply moisturizing without being sticky, leaving her skin plump with refined texture. She was especially happy that her makeup went on beautifully afterward.

Thank you for the wonderful memories.

We stayed here to celebrate my aunt’s 91st birthday. Just as the Reviews said, not only was the staff’s hospitality outstanding, but every Facility and service was truly top-class. For my aunt, who has difficulty walking, the barrier-free interior made it very comfortable. During our 2-night, 3-day stay, we didn’t step outside the Hotel even once—we simply relaxed and took it easy inside—and both my aunt and I were extremely satisfied. It was a wonderful Hotel that made us want to come back and also recommend it to friends. Thank you very much to all the staff!

    A Favorite Space

Staying in the Karaku Room, the wonderful view from the Room and the open-air bath offered an exceptional sense of openness. The Room is compact, but its design is functional and free of waste. Above all, the scenery from the terrace was incredibly soothing, and it was a truly relaxing time. What impressed me most was the staff’s refined hospitality. The male staff member who assisted us at check-in created a perfect start to our trip with attentive care and a warm smile. Even though he was busy, he brought his own footwear to step out onto the terrace and took various photos for us, which became a wonderful keepsake. The training is thorough, and we enjoyed an excellent stay where we could relax with complete peace of mind. This Accommodation offers some of the highest service in Hakone. We will definitely return.

    The lounge was excellent.

We checked in early and used the lounge. There was a great variety of drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and since it was a weekday it wasn’t very crowded, so we were able to relax there comfortably. The Room was very clean and compact, but well designed. The open-air bath was easy to use, so we enjoyed it many times. One disappointment was that there were no towels prepared by the open-air bath, so we had to bring them from the washroom. Since we also used the shower room, going back and forth between both felt a bit inconvenient. All of the meals were delicious, beautifully presented, and enjoyable. The flavors were gentle and the portions were just right. Because our dinner time was early at 5:00 p.m., they kindly made rice balls from the remaining mixed rice for a late-night snack, which we appreciated. Points deducted for amenities: there were no pajamas provided; I later realized that requests for items such as additional mirrors had to be made via a QR code (which I didn’t notice); and for some reason there was no pillow (I noticed before bed and asked for one). It was also nice to have lovely spots like the Water Terrace and the Wood Terrace. It was unfortunate that the weather wasn’t very good. We would like to visit again.

Thank you for your continued support.

I’ve stayed here many times since you opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, I visited Izusan for the first time as well. The ocean view is very refreshing! I prefer the atmosphere in Gora. The meals are delicious and consistently excellent.

    After having a wonde...

After having a wonderful stay at Gora Kadan Atami Izusan in June, I decided to visit the Hakone property as well. The Shuttle Service bus from Odawara was very convenient, making both the trip there and back extremely easy. In addition, there are bus services available before check-in and after check-out, so even though it was only a one-night stay, I was able to relax at a leisurely pace by using the IKYU benefit of early check-in and paying an additional fee for late check-out. Since the open-air bath in the Room is excellent, I highly recommend late check-out so you can spend your final hours relaxing in your Room until the very end. I don’t drink alcohol, but just like Izusan, there is a comfortable lounge where I could unwind with delicious coffee and sweets. While Atami’s sea views are lovely, I also really enjoyed Hakone’s fresh greenery—it was beautiful and quickly became a favorite.

    Hospitality Beyond Your Imagination

It was my first stay. I knew it had great reviews, but I was truly moved and soothed by the hospitality and thoughtful care that exceeded my expectations. The meals were outstanding, and I especially appreciated the kindness of turning the leftover seasoned rice into rice balls. I thoroughly enjoyed the bath in the Room as well, but the open-air bath in the large public bath was set at a slightly lower temperature, so I could soak for a long time and relieve my everyday fatigue. The lounge was excellent too! Many guests were relaxing in their own way—it really reflects your wonderful hospitality. My wife was very satisfied as well. We will definitely return!

    Couples’ Trip

This was my first visit in four years. I chose Karakusan because I wanted to relax. The Onsen in summer was wonderful as well—I could soak slowly at a slightly lower temperature while listening to the cicadas, which was truly enjoyable. This time I chose teppanyaki, and it was very delicious, but I feel the Japanese kaiseki course is more visually delightful and ultimately more satisfying. Thank you for seeing me off until my car was out of sight on my way home. I was truly moved. I will visit again next year.

    We had a wonderful time.

From the guidance upon arrival, explanations of the dishes during meals and small interactions, to the support at checkout, the staff’s consistently courteous and smooth service was truly a pleasure, and we had a wonderful time. The well-appointed lounge, the delicious food, and the breathtaking view from the Onsen in our Room—every highly praised plus point exceeded our already high expectations. It felt like outstanding value for money, and it became a memorable one-night stay that is hard to come by. Thank you very much. One small note: in the morning before checkout, I relaxed while soaking in the bath in my Room. I also enjoy watching MLB broadcasts during that time, but seeing a message on the BS channels about receiver installation was slightly disappointing. Of course, it’s not enough to be considered a negative point.

I was able to relax while enjoying the mountain view.

From the terrace connected to the lounge, I felt truly happy spending time relaxing and enjoying lounge drinks and sweets while taking in the mountain views. The view from the bath was also very relaxing. The meals were perfectly portioned, beautifully presented, and delicious. I would love to visit again.

    The service is excellent.

As we were traveling with my elderly parents, we chose this Accommodation because it offers a Shuttle Service from Odawara and a bath in the Room—and it was absolutely the right choice. When my mother was getting off the bus, the staff noticed her movements and prepared a wheelchair even before we asked, so we felt warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. Since you have to walk down a long corridor to reach the dining area and the large public bath, it can be tough for older guests. This support truly helped us. The dining staff explained each dish clearly and served us with wit, allowing us to enjoy our meal in great comfort. Not only that, but the international staff member who handled our check-in, the staff member who guided us to our Room, and every staff member we passed in the hallway were all courteous—I felt they are this Accommodation’s greatest asset. Because there were four of us, I wondered if the Room might feel small; however, my parents were moved by the mountain views from the window and the scenery overlooking Miyanoshita, as well as watching the moon and gourd-shaped illuminations while soaking in the bath. They are already saying they want to visit again soon. It was a wonderful trip—thank you very much.

    Guests walking around in bathrobes

I have stayed at this Hotel several times, and it is one of my top ten favorites in Japan. This time, however, a middle-aged foreign woman walked to the 5th-floor open-air bath wearing a bathrobe. She also did the same thing the night before in the lounge on the 2nd floor, and even at 8:30 a.m. she was openly relaxing there with her legs crossed. It was unpleasant to see, so I went to the front desk to say that they should caution her or at least give her some guidance. Of the two male staff members at the front desk who were not Japanese, the shorter man looked troubled and held his head as if to say, “Oh no,” but I was astonished that the taller man did nothing but grin. After that, no one said anything in the morning lounge either, and she continued sitting there with her legs crossed in a bright white bathrobe that really stood out. At the open-air bath as well, I saw foreigners entering wearing swimsuits. I am very concerned that this Hotel is being disrupted by foreign guests and that its appeal is steadily declining due to foreign staff whose ability and motivation seem to be deteriorating.

An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

The staff were very helpful, and the view was wonderful—we could enjoy a comfortable stay with a panoramic view of Sagami Bay. However, it was a bit too hot to relax comfortably on the balcony, so we would like to visit again when it is cooler. The meals were just the right portion size, and we appreciated the slightly lighter seasoning. A few minor points: we would have liked a footlight by the bed, and we later noticed that there was no clock in the room even though one should have been provided.

I visited both Atami and Hakone!

Atami had great views and I was satisfied overall, but even with the upper-floor Plan, we couldn’t see Sagami Bay from the 5th floor. Would it have been visible from the 6th floor? 1) About the meals For dinner (seasonal full-course) at the main dining “Mutsuki,” both the greenling (served like a soup) and the splendid alfonsino had a strange taste, and I didn’t find them delicious. The two pieces of beef and two additional pieces of meat served afterward were also cold, and it felt like they were trying to cover it up by adding ketchup, which made me question it as a course meal. Also, the dishes didn’t come out smoothly and we often had to wait with nothing to do. That said, thank you very much for your thoughtful consideration toward me during pregnancy. At breakfast, while the croissant was delicious, another bread was cut in half and didn’t taste very good. Even if I wanted another croissant, I wasn’t sure whether refills were allowed since no one offered or explained anything—so that was disappointing. There was also no explanation about the jams; I only noticed them because my family used them. The salad was chopped into small pieces and didn’t feel fresh. As for the smoothie, when I asked after being told it was blueberry, I learned it also contained pineapple—so it’s more of a blueberry mix. The Gotemba ham tasted excellent, but mayonnaise or Dijon mustard would have been nice to have. The omelet was too simple and disappointing. 2) About the Room The coffee cups were oddly shaped like teacups used for hot water; they got very hot and were hard to hold, and the saucers were also inconvenient to use. I requested an iron and ironing board by phone; only an iron was brought. When I called again to ask about the board, I was told there isn’t one because it’s a steam iron. The staff member who delivered it could have explained that at delivery. 3) About the lounge It’s a shame there weren’t snacks such as cheese that would pair well with wine. Also, it seems drinks become paid after 9:00 p.m., but this wasn’t explained at check-in. 4) Open-air bath It was lukewarm and uncomfortable.

    Wonderful Accommodation

We stayed for two nights on a family trip with my parents. The location was excellent, and the views were wonderful. The Room was spacious and very clean. From the open-air bath on the balcony, we could enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains of Hakone, and even see the sea in the distance—it was incredibly relaxing. All of the staff were kind and pleasant, and the food was also very delicious.

We were extremely satisfied! We’ll definitely be back!

This was my third stay in a while. It felt like the lounge free-flow selection had improved compared to before. Since I stayed during the Obon holiday period, it seemed quite busy overall, but the large public bath wasn’t overcrowded, and meal service wasn’t delayed, so there were no issues. The Room amenities also felt more well stocked than before (though I may just be forgetting). I enjoyed the Onsen in my Room and used the steamer as well! The food was very delicious—reliably comforting as always. And the explanations of each dish were perfect—excellent. These days, many Ryokan and Hotels have more international staff and younger staff providing service (which is not a problem at all), but I imagine explaining the dishes is one of the most challenging parts. Before my stay, I saw quite a few harsh Reviews recently and worried that the service level might have declined, but there were no problems at all. There were many international guests as well, but everyone was very considerate. This is an Accommodation you can visit with peace of mind. I’ll be back!

I felt truly relaxed thanks to the spa treatments and the lounge.

We stayed for one night and two days during a gap in our children’s schedule. We had planned a quiet stay with almost no plans and no sightseeing so our tired kids could rest, but we ended up truly relaxing—enjoying the free-flow lounge and spa treatments as a couple. The spa treatments were especially outstanding, so skillful that all our fatigue melted away—it was genuinely moving after such a long time. The meals were delicious as well.

    Impressions from Your Stay

The staff were very kind and attentive (including the international staff!). 1. I made my Reservation through IKYU, but I could not book the Shuttle Service on the IKYU website and had to access the Accommodation’s website separately to make that Reservation. I would like Shuttle Service Reservations to be available from IKYU and other booking sites as well. 2. I believe there are issues with how meals are served. With Japanese cuisine, it is generally customary for dishes to be placed on the table at once, allowing guests the freedom to choose what to eat and in what order. However, even though there was a menu, serving courses one by one like Western cuisine felt unusual and removed that freedom of choice. Moreover, items that I do not normally eat (for example, horse meat) were also served. By chance I was dining with someone who would eat it, so everything was finished, but if I had been alone I believe it would have been left uneaten. (I also worry that international staff might mistakenly think this is standard Japanese cuisine and return home with that impression.) It felt as though Japanese traditions were being disregarded. As mentioned at the beginning, because the staff were otherwise excellent—including their thoughtfulness—this was especially disappointing.

    It was wonderful.

We stayed here to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, and everything—from the building and location to the service and meals—was outstanding. They even took photos for her birthday celebration and handed us the developed prints at the end, which I’ve never experienced elsewhere and felt was an especially thoughtful touch. I love traveling and have stayed at many Hotels, including luxury properties such as The Ritz-Carlton, Hoshinoya, and Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto, but this was impressive enough to rank in my personal top five. I’d love to return again someday. Thank you very much.

    I was able to relax.

From the Shuttle Service from Odawara to check-in and the restaurant, everything was wonderfully hospitable, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. The free-flow lounge was crowded with international guests, but the offerings were plentiful. The meals were fairly ordinary for this price range, but the spacious setting and pleasant service from the staff made it an enjoyable experience. Next time, I’d like to try the teppanyaki as well. The Room was clean and had everything I needed. If there were a bit more space around the sink, it would be perfect. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    We stayed using the ...

We stayed using the Diamond Member early check-in. We made great use of the complimentary drinks and food, enjoyed both the open-air bath in our Room and the large public bath, and my companion—an Onsen lover—was especially delighted. Dinner at Mutsukiyo was, just as others have written, a truly luxurious experience that satisfied all five senses as well as tasting wonderful. Many international guests were staying there, and the staff responded in English with warm smiles. They also answered our questions politely, and we felt their high level of hospitality. The property is very spacious, and even simply walking around was enjoyable, making for a highly satisfying stay. As an aside, we loved the flavorful dashi we had during our stay from a local Odawara shop, so we bought the same one on our way home to enjoy it again at home.

We stayed here to celebrate my niece’s birthday.

My niece loves Atami KoraKuen, so we chose Hakone KoraKuen for her birthday this time. The lounge at check-in was even better than last time, and the premium tea was delicious. She really liked the Room, both terraces, and the lounge, and I was happy that I brought her here. This time, we tried teppanyaki for the first time, and both the atmosphere and the view were wonderful. The lounge offerings were even more extensive. It was a shame that there were fewer types of plum wine, but the morning orange juice and sweets were truly delicious—I ate too much from early in the morning. The hospitality from the staff was also excellent. (I was disappointed that I couldn’t see a staff member I usually chat with.) Atami and Hakone each have their own unique charm, and I love them both. (It’s great that Hakone offers a Western-style breakfast option.) We will visit again after the New Year, so thank you in advance.

Both Atami and Hakone were wonderful!

After staying at Karaku Atami, we left a day in between and then stayed at Karaku Hakone. We were worried the meals might be similar, but they were different, and both were absolutely delicious. In Hakone, the dashi was outstanding, and perhaps because of that, even the side dishes surprised us with how much better they were than any Japanese cuisine we’d had before. The dining here is truly delicious and offers a fresh sense of discovery. The staff were also very pleasant, making our stay truly enjoyable. We choose Karaku because we love the lounge, and the Hakone lounge had its own charm that was different from Atami’s—we enjoyed it both before and after dinner. At other Accommodation properties, once dinner is over the next highlight is breakfast the next morning, but here we found ourselves thinking, “We still have time to enjoy coffee and dessert in the lounge after dinner!” It felt like a real bonus. My daughter also loved the cute yukata—we were very satisfied. There was excellent tea at the front desk; it would be even nicer if it were available at AWAI so it could be enjoyed with Japanese sweets. Also, thanks to the Shuttle Service from Odawara Station, it was easy to visit even for women who aren’t comfortable driving. This is an Accommodation we’d love to stay at again.

    Exceptional Hospitality

We stayed in the Karaku Room (Japanese-style) for my girlfriend’s birthday. From the moment we arrived, every staff member we met provided wonderfully pleasant service, and they kindly took care of even the smallest details. When arranging a balloon surprise, the Hotel carefully explained all precautions and conditions, making it a truly memorable stay. The view from the Room was even more impressive than in the photos. Since it’s a large Hotel with many Rooms, we often saw other guests in the lounge and corridors, but thanks to the Karaku Room’s early check-in and late check-out, it never felt crowded in the lobby and we were able to stay comfortable. We also enjoyed our meals in a private room at Muttsuki, which was both relaxing and delicious. That said, it was a bit difficult to understand the building layout at first, and we ended up taking the wrong elevator. Also, the shower head in our Room didn’t have very strong water pressure; considering its heavy design, it felt somewhat hard to use. Even though it’s a large-scale Hotel, it somehow feels naturally welcoming and comfortable—truly worthy of being a Michelin Key Hotel. We would love to stay again.

    Once you stay here

Hakone, Gora – Gora Kadan First stay with high expectations. Check-in No welcome drink, I see. I assumed there would be one… My expectations dropped by about 20%. Room Great view. Facilities and amenities: - The cups for hot drinks are stylish, but not very practical. - All the in-room loungewear was size S. Why? I could have called to ask, but based on past experience I expected M or free size to be provided. - I noticed some dark staining around the drains at the washbasin and the toilet hand-washing sink. Dinner (Grill) We were two women, and the portion size was just right. It was delicious. Lounge: It was nice enough. Large public bath: Very good. Breakfast Japanese set: a bit lightly seasoned? Western set: I forgot to ask for impressions. The male staff member who guided us to our Room after check-in left a very positive impression. The staff at breakfast also left a positive impression. Overall, I would have been happier if staff had checked in with us first—asking if we needed anything or making a bit of small talk—before we had to ask ourselves. Honestly, my satisfaction didn’t match what I paid this time.

It was my first time staying here.

I am currently living on a pension, but I worked for many years at a major travel agency and have stayed at hundreds of Accommodations in Japan and abroad. I was truly impressed by “Karaku.” As it is a relatively new Accommodation, it was understandable that the Facilities and amenities were all of the highest standard, but what moved me most was the consistently outstanding hospitality shown by every member of staff from arrival to departure. From the courteous welcome after we arrived to being seen off after checkout—with staff waving until our car disappeared from view—my companion was genuinely delighted as well. It far exceeded expectations for the price.

A renowned modern Ryokan you can enjoy even at night—perfect for special anniversaries!

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days to celebrate her birthday and an important life milestone. In the past, at high-end Ryokan, we sometimes found there was little to do at night beyond the spa, and that shopping nearby was inconvenient—but this place was different. The lounge is open until 10:00 p.m., and the large public bath until midnight, which made our evenings especially satisfying. We enjoyed drinks in the lounge while talking at length, returned to our Room when we pleasantly started to feel sleepy, then quickly soaked in the in-room open-air bath. We also enjoyed the sauna in the large public bath. Even this nighttime routine alone felt worth the trip. The view from the in-room open-air bath was lovely, and the sound of the river was soothing. The interior has a modern style unlike a traditional long-established Ryokan, and it felt very comfortable. We also appreciated the thoughtful selection of appliances in the Room—it was fun to use them. There were even a speaker and a steam facial device, and our satisfaction with every detail was high. The private bath was spacious as well and felt wonderfully luxurious (the summer sun was strong, so we gave up on lying outside). The dining experience was excellent too. We tried both dinner options—the grill restaurant and the main dining room—and both had delicious food and drinks. Breakfast can be chosen from Japanese or Western styles, so it’s easy to recommend for anyone. We also appreciated that they accommodated our request to change part of the Western breakfast to fish. The layout that lets you relax in the lounge before and after meals worked very well. One disappointment was arranging a surprise bouquet. I specified an exact placement by phone in advance, but on the day it was placed somewhere else; I broke into a cold sweat because it almost ruined the surprise. In the end she didn’t notice and everything turned out fine, but since it mattered so much for us, I hope requests like this will be shared clearly among staff going forward. Also, when we walked past after lounge hours ended, we could hear staff chatting loudly from inside, which concerned us slightly. That said, each staff member’s service was attentive and warm overall, making our stay truly comfortable and wonderful from start to finish. I think this is an Accommodation worthy of special anniversaries. Thank you very much.
