    I have stayed here s...

    I have stayed here several times, and this time I booked a stay because I had work nearby. I had reserved dinner, but there were no seats available—perhaps it was forgotten—and the staff at the venue seemed flustered. A younger staff member assisted me politely. The meals had changed since before and were now buffet-style, which was disappointing. I’m leaving this Review because the Room felt very unsettling. Right after entering, the decorative shoji screen was torn, which already made me uncomfortable. Inside, the layout was different and there were two closets for storing futons. On the ceiling of one closet, a square access panel (possibly for inspection) was already open. It felt scary—like someone might come down from above—and the area around it was covered in an unbelievable amount of dust and lint, which I really disliked. I considered speaking to reception to change Rooms, but when I went to reception earlier for another matter, they responded without a smile and in an unpleasant way, so I didn’t want to bring it up again and just put up with it. Later at the large public bath area, a floor-standing oscillating fan was running with an excessive amount of lint stuck all over its guard. At that point, I gave up on saying anything.

    The quality of the hot spring water is excellent. Even my parent, who has limited mobility, was able to enjoy it fully.

    The Onsen water quality is unquestionably top-class. My wheelchair-using parent could also access the private family bath and move around the property with ease. Thank you. Opinions may vary about the meals, and I can’t say how true gourmet diners would feel, but we really liked the half-buffet. Personally, I think a full buffet would be fine. It’s a very good Ryokan.

    Naruko Onsen

    Previously, when I stayed at Naruko Onsen and Naruko Hotel, I remember the water being whiter and silkier, which I liked. This time, the large public bath on the 6th floor didn’t feel as silky as before. However, the family bath on the lowest floor was very good. I’m not an Onsen expert—this is just my impression.

    I’m glad I stayed here.

    The service from all staff—including the front desk and housekeeping—was excellent. All the meals were delicious, and I personally couldn’t stop eating the squid somen. The hot spring water was silky-smooth. The private bath available without a Reservation was especially appreciated. This isn’t related to the Hotel, but the omurice at the nearby “Coffee House Jun” was outstanding. Overall, it was a very satisfying trip.

    It became a memorable family trip.

    Room & Amenities: The room was clean and comfortable. It would have been even better if the view from the private bath was nicer. Hospitality & Service: The staff provided attentive service. Despite arriving early due to snow, they were flexible with shuttle service and check-in arrangements. Onsen & Bath: Enjoyed both the private bath in the room and the reserved onsen. The water quality suited my preference. Facility: Clean and well-maintained. Meals: Enjoyed both set meals and buffet options. The meals were average, neither particularly good nor bad. For those who prioritize baths over dining, this accommodation is a great choice.

    Accommodation with hospitality

    I booked two special rooms for my parents in their 70s. Although the accommodation has an older charm, it was thoroughly cleaned and maintained, providing a very comfortable stay. The cleanliness was impeccable, with not even a single strand of hair out of place. The staff were excellent; those who guided us during meals and served us were friendly and attentive, which we greatly appreciated. The unlimited drinks during dinner and complimentary beverages in the room were delightful services. All the meals were delicious, and my parents commented on the high quality as they happily finished everything on their plates. Even the desserts showed great attention to detail, reflecting the chef's dedication to hospitality. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable with a variety of options, including Zunda mochi and local Miyagi dishes that were incredibly tasty. We also ordered chestnut dumplings as souvenirs by 8 PM; they were slightly warm when we received them at checkout. We enjoyed them in the car on our way back—they had just the right amount of sweetness and tasted amazing. Both my parents expressed their desire to return here again someday. Choosing this accommodation turned out to be an excellent decision!

    The room on the top ...

    The room on the top floor was spacious with a great view. However, while the building's age adds charm, the cleaning of windows and other areas could have been better. The staff had warm smiles and provided a pleasant experience.

    During a sudden heav...

    During a sudden heavy snowfall, I stayed at Naruko Onsen for the first time. I had made a shuttle service reservation to Naruko Station in advance, but there was no car to pick me up, so I called again and they came to pick me up. At check-in, there was no one at the front desk, and I waited for about 30 minutes. Wouldn't it be better to keep the lobby lights brighter? On the other hand, the private onsen allowed my spouse and me to relax, and we were satisfied with the large public bath as well. The meals and room were clean, and we were satisfied.

    The New Year's soba ...

    The New Year's soba was surprisingly not delicious. Also, the service felt lacking compared to other Kyoritsu series.

    A bit disappointing.

    Dissatisfied with dinner. The appetizers lacked a homemade feel, the grilled beef tongue was tough and tasteless, and the sauce on the attention-to-detail noodles was bland, leaving me disappointed. The breakfast buffet was reasonably good. I was also surprised by the extreme frugality of the amenities. If asked whether I would visit again, I would have to think about it.

    A bit disappointed by the contrast between dinner and breakfast.

    We chose the detached Room so we could bring my father, who has difficulty walking, on a family trip. When I called in advance, I was told a wheelchair would be fine, but the path from the front desk to the detached Room has no roof (so it’s cold) and is an uneven stone walkway, making it impossible to use a wheelchair. It may be quite tough for elderly guests with mobility issues. The Room was spacious and fairly clean, and even with an infant we could relax comfortably without worrying about disturbing others if they cried or made noise. The open-air bath was wonderful—we could enjoy the view outside and have it all to ourselves at a leisurely pace. As for dinner, even though we checked in right at 3:00 PM, we were scheduled for 7:30 PM. We had asked in advance whether in-room dining was possible because we had an infant and an elderly person with limited mobility, but were told it wasn’t allowed due to policy—so we accepted that. Still, a 7:30 PM seating is simply too late for an infant. Dinner looked beautiful and tasted great. That said, breakfast was disappointing—almost everything seemed pre-made, and there wasn’t much I found tasty. The buffet layout also didn’t make sense and caused a very long line; I think it could be improved by using more of the space instead of creating a single bottleneck area. We have stayed at many Kyoritsu Group properties in Tohoku and Kanto, but this time there were too many disappointments considering the price. We had stayed here several times before COVID-19 and always thought it was a very good Ryokan, which is why we returned—but this time it felt like the staff’s hospitality toward guests had declined.

    Thank you very much for your great hospitality. The Room was very clean and comfortable. I would be happy if the amenity service could be a little more enhanced. (If possible, lotion, etc.) The meal was excellent.

    I have stayed at var...

    I have stayed at various places before, but the food here is not good. All the warm dishes were cold, and the matsutake chawanmushi had no aroma or matsutake. The warm noodles were cold and overcooked, making them inedible, and the other dishes seemed like pre-made products just taken out of a bag and plated carelessly... I will never use Kyoritsu again.

    A location with a great view

    Since it was my first time in Naruko and I wasn't familiar with the area, I chose this place because they offered a shuttle service and a friend had stayed here before. The room was spacious, with large windows, clean, and a tatami-style Japanese room with a low bed. I was satisfied with the comfort of the bed. I specifically choose accommodations with "flowing hot springs" for the purpose of enjoying the onsen. I decided on this place because it was also advertised as having flowing hot springs, but when I used the private bath, there was a chlorine smell! I was honestly disappointed to find out it contained disinfectant. Upon checking the ingredients list, it stated "disinfectant present." I guess it's unavoidable for large inns. Normally, I would bathe multiple times, but this time I only did twice. It was my mistake for not checking, but it was quite disappointing. It's a shame that Naruko Onsen has disinfectant... Dinner was average. Breakfast included some local specialties, which I thought was nice. As for the accommodation fee, since it was a twin room for single use, it felt a bit overpriced. The staff's response was also average. It wasn't bad, but I didn't feel a sense of welcome or proactive customer service. It felt like the kind of response you'd expect from a chain hotel. When I asked at the front desk if there was someone knowledgeable about the hot springs in the area, the young woman seemed unsure and confused. Even though a "knowledgeable staff" person appeared at the front desk, they relayed their response to my question through the female staff, which surprised me a bit. If they were knowledgeable, I thought it would be normal for them to take over and respond directly since they were right in front of me, so it felt odd. I don't usually write harsh reviews, but considering the scale, price, and location, they need to try a bit harder for the future of Naruko Onsen to be bright. If the service improves, I think more people would come because it's a good hot spring area with many wonderful onsens. Also, regarding environmental efforts? SDGs? I was a bit surprised by the business hotel-level service, like having to pick up amenities myself from the first floor. I couldn't help but view it as a measure to address labor shortages and minimize effort. Among the accommodations I've visited recently, it was disappointing considering the price and reviews. I won't be visiting again.
