    Your First Trip to Okinawa

We took our first trip to Okinawa with our 18-month-old. Even in bad weather, the kid-friendly facilities (an indoor kids’ pool and a baby room), being able to enjoy everything within the Hotel, and having a separate bath and toilet were the deciding factors. As expected, we didn’t get great weather, but both our child and we still had a wonderful time and were very satisfied. If you want to enjoy the Hotel comfortably with minimal stress, I highly recommend the club floor. You can check in smoothly while seated, switch from the crowded breakfast buffet to in-Room service breakfast with a reserved time slot, enjoy complimentary drinks in a lounge with great views, and use the indoor pool, Onsen, and beach chairs free of charge—there are so many benefits. The Room windows were spotless, so we could fully enjoy the beautiful view. The size was just right, and amenities were well stocked—even including women’s skincare items. At the breakfast buffet, freshly made omelets, waffles, and pancakes were served at live stations with lines. There were some Okinawan-style options as well, but overall selection was somewhat limited. We enjoyed breakfast by the window while looking out at the ocean. We made an online Reservation and waited just over an hour. The in-Room service breakfast was an American breakfast—filling and delicious. Being able to choose a time slot was very helpful; we used it twice. For dinner we went to Teppanyaki Kobe. Unfortunately it poured rain so we couldn’t enjoy the view, but our child was fascinated by the chef’s performance skills. The food also featured plenty of Okinawan ingredients and was excellent. The lounge had a great atmosphere and felt relaxing. However, since there weren’t many food options available there, I’d love to see that improved throughout the day. The indoor pool has a slide in the kids’ pool area, which our child really enjoyed. Since it’s small for an indoor pool facility overall (?), I wondered if that’s why access is limited even though it is paid? At outdoor pools they enjoyed playing in grassy baby space area instead of swimming; at first I thought “You came all this way just for that?”, but it was nice that there was still space for them to have fun. I’d like souvenir shop carry more women resort dresses selection too. All staff members kind friendly towards children as well; would definitely stay again!

Satisfied with the Hotel’s service even with a typhoon hitting directly and on my daughter’s birthday!

This was our first trip to Okinawa as a family vacation. Although we decided to go ahead with the trip with a typhoon approaching, the services at this Hotel were excellent and truly helpful. Even on days when the weather was severe, we were able to spend meaningful time together with our daughter in the indoor pool and Onsen. In addition, you showed us thoughtful kindness in many ways for our daughter’s birthday, and as parents who chose this Hotel, we felt very proud. At breakfast, we enjoyed both Japanese and Western options from the buffet; in particular, the Japanese dishes offered daily rotating menus for guests on a Multiple Night Stay, which was very satisfying. I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my sincere gratitude to everyone at this Hotel for your kindness.

We enjoyed an amazing trip to Okinawa with outstanding service.

We stayed at Hotel Monterey Okinawa with three generations of our family and enjoyed the ocean view from the top floor. Tiger Beach stretching out right in front of us was truly beautiful, and we fully enjoyed marine activities such as snorkeling. We also visited spots that everyone can enjoy regardless of age, including Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and a Ryukyu glass-making experience. It was an unforgettable Okinawa trip that brought smiles to our whole family. This time, we had to cancel one family’s reservation at Hotel Monterey, but even though it was just two days before arrival, they kindly told us, “There will be no Cancellation Fee for cancellations due to a child’s fever,” and “Please come visit us again.” We were truly grateful for their thoughtful response. All rooms have an ocean view, and the activity pool, Onsen, and restaurants are all well equipped. It’s a Resort Hotel with pleasant staff service, and we had a very comfortable stay.

A family trip with my two nephews—we spent the whole time enjoying the pool.

I stayed here in the first half of summer vacation with my two nephews. Because they’re picky eaters and meal times were hard to manage, we chose a plan without meals. There are several pools; the younger one really loved Bubble Hill, and the older one enjoyed playing with a ball in the wave pool and practicing swimming. As the sun gets stronger in the afternoon, especially at the infinity pool, the water temperature rises quite a bit, so I recommend using the pools between 8:00 (when they open) and around a little after 11:00. The chicken and fries at the poolside café were delicious—and of course, the beer was excellent too. The pools themselves aren’t very large, but there are many different types, and there were plenty of parasols so we could stay out of direct sunlight. It was also great that there were lots of beach towels available. We also felt very safe because the lifeguards kept a close watch. We wanted to join “Fish Paradise,” but it was sold out, which was disappointing. I hope you can increase capacity. The Room was very comfortable with high ceilings, and we loved how spacious the beds were. My younger nephew moves around a lot in his sleep, so I worried he might fall off, but it was set up as a Hollywood twin; by pushing the couch up to it and surrounding him with large cushions, he slept soundly without any issues—even while moving all over during the night. The balcony was very large; even though the sun still felt hot in late afternoon, we could enjoy an amazing sunset and were very satisfied. The bathroom was also spacious enough that my nephews said they wanted to just stay in our Room—and they had fun relaxing there too. With such strong sunshine, wet swimsuits dried quickly. I planned to buy food at the convenience store inside Hotel property but found limited options, so we used nearby Lawson as well as places like a steakhouse right by Hotel property instead. We liked that Tiger Beach is close by, but there was quite a lot of seaweed this time—so we ended up deciding that the pools were better for us after all. We happened to stay on a day when fireworks went off at just the right time, so we went out to watch from the beach. If you skip Room cleaning you receive coupons usable within Hotel property; they really helped for buying souvenirs and for activities like decorating canisters. It was also thoughtful that beach sandals were provided in our Room. We’d love to visit again—thank you very much for everything this time.

Key Elements to Enjoy an Okinawa Trip

We stayed here for a family trip with two elementary school children. A typhoon affected the weather during our stay, but we were still able to fully enjoy a resort atmosphere within the Hotel. The room was spacious and very clean, and the ocean view from the window was wonderful, allowing us to relax comfortably. Our children were especially looking forward to the pool, and it was great that there were both outdoor and indoor pools, so they could play without worrying about the weather. After plenty of fun, being able to warm up in a natural Onsen was another highlight that made this an ideal choice for a family trip. Breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, with plenty of options ranging from Okinawan specialties to Western-style items—something both kids and adults could enjoy. We also received IKYU Diamond member benefits, which made us feel warmly welcomed by the Hotel. On the downside, elevator wait times could be long depending on the time of day, which was a bit inconvenient with children. Even so, we truly enjoyed our stay despite the typhoon conditions, and this is a Hotel we would definitely choose again when visiting Okinawa.

Thoughts on the pool lifeguard’s attitude

We stay at this Hotel every year during my daughter’s summer vacation, and the pool here is her favorite. However, this year was completely different. The pool lifeguards’ attitude was unacceptable. I understand that the pool can be dangerous and that some guests do not follow the rules, so I do not disagree with giving warnings. But the instructions were often unclear, and their manner came across as arrogant, which was very disappointing. For example: different lifeguards gave different explanations about areas where children are not allowed to enter alone; they stood blocking areas where children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian and questioned ages harshly; they chased away guests who entered paid areas without realizing it; and when someone brought a float larger than permitted, they measured it on the spot with a tape measure and rejected it without any attempt to explain or persuade. In all of these interactions, there was no smile. Perhaps because they wear sunglasses, they already seem intimidating, but I felt their words and behavior could have been handled much better. Simply changing how they speak to guests would likely make most people accept the rules. They may be student part-time staff, but even when enforcing rules, the Hotel should train them to avoid being overbearing and to treat guests with hospitality and a friendly attitude. That way, not only those being addressed but also nearby guests would be able to enjoy themselves without feeling uncomfortable.

    Summer Vacation

We stayed here for the first time during our summer vacation. The Premium Club Room benefits were so luxurious that we were genuinely surprised once we arrived. The cafe was free every time, and the coupons could be used for souvenirs and at the cafe as well, which made us very happy. The cafe staff were consistently wonderful, and our children kept saying how kind they were. The pool was clean, and Tiger Beach was conveniently located with easy access to other beaches too, making this a truly satisfying summer trip. This Hotel is perfect for families traveling with young children! Thank you very much!

    Summer Vacation

This was our second stay with my grandchild. The hospitality was outstanding, and we may come back for a third visit. One request: the pool slide is too short and we got bored of it quickly, so we’d love it if it could be made a bit longer.

    Family Trip

We stayed here for a family trip. The Hotel and guest room were clean, and we had a very comfortable stay. The staff’s hospitality was excellent, and it made us feel glad we chose to come. One disappointing point was breakfast. We reserved the breakfast buffet online and waited nearly two hours, which I understand may be unavoidable when it is crowded. However, instead of being seated in the main breakfast venue, we were guided to an alternate venue. After being seated, we were told that the food would be cleared away in about 10 minutes, so we should get our food quickly. In addition, the dishes were not replenished and felt like leftovers, which was very disappointing. If the alternate venue needed to close early, I think guests should have been guided to the main breakfast venue instead. Overall, the staff and Facility throughout the Hotel were great, but what happened at breakfast was a negative point for us. Aside from that, it is a very good Hotel and I would like to recommend it to friends as well. Thank you for your hospitality. We would like to visit again.

The location and the property itself are excellent, but

This was our first stay at this Hotel, as we needed two Rooms at the Seragaki Hotel we use every year, and this one was available at half the price. I had been keeping an eye on it since it opened, and the consistently positive Reviews were the deciding factor. Pros: Pool, beach, separate bathroom, clean Facility, kids’ programs, lots of events, plenty of restaurants within walking distance Cons: Restaurants for breakfast/lunch/dinner, staff, other guests First of all, the water clarity is amazing. The beach is spacious with good depth, so you can swim freely. The sea right in front of the Hotel is so beautiful that there’s no need to join outside tours—there are even colorful fish swimming beyond the net. The pool was also great for kids. Next, what I’d like to see improved: I’d like more lunch options that can be eaten while still in swimwear. Even at the poolside restaurant, I wish items like pizza and pasta could be brought over from the indoor restaurant and ordered there. As for fries, regular fries would be better. The beachside restaurant closes at 2 p.m., so if you miss it you’re stuck with only the poolside menu—doing that day after day was tough. Also, the website makes restaurant information hard to find. With children, we prefer à la carte dining at night; having mostly set courses makes it inconvenient. At the Japanese restaurant (washoku), even though we had a Reservation and were waiting, no staff came out. The service there was terrible overall—were they student part-timers? I also saw multiple groups snorkeling off the beach without being warned. Most Hotels basically prohibit snorkeling on their beaches; many guests likely don’t know this either, so clear signage should be posted around the beach in multiple languages. At the pool area as well: some guests were drinking in the pool area while in the water itself (which may be fine), but they were also using e-cigarettes and playing music through a speaker. Staff only warned them about a ball being dangerous; it was extremely unpleasant. They appeared to be foreign guests too—perhaps because someone who could speak English had been called over—but nearby staff simply ignored it instead of addressing it. Even at kids’ events: despite everyone lining up properly beforehand، some parents suddenly cut in from behind with their child; another guest placed their belongings on chairs already being used and sat down right in front of a child while pretending not to notice; another family left half-finished water bottles and towels on spa chairs when they left. This time there were many disappointing experiences due to other people’s behavior. It’s unfortunate because both the property itself and its kid-friendly concept are excellent. I hope for better staff training—warm smiles suited to a tropical resort along with firm enforcement when needed.

Because of Typhoon No. 13, we moved this trip up earlier than planned. They were very flexible, including accommodating changes to our schedule. The Room was clean with a wonderful view. Breakfast was also delicious, with plenty of Okinawan ingredients. I did wish the large public bath were a bit cheaper. It felt a little small and somewhat dated, and since there was no outside view, ¥1,500 seemed a bit expensive. Still, thanks to the service and cleanliness, it’s a Hotel I’d like to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    Resort-style City Hotel

I stayed for about two nights. Since this is one of Japan’s most popular tourist destinations, I expected the prices to be somewhat high, but honestly I was disappointed—the service did not feel worth the cost. What stood out most was the front desk staff: whenever I asked for something, they responded with an openly annoyed attitude. There is a private beach, but it is man-made and overgrown with seaweed. It’s fine if you just want to swim, but you won’t see many tropical fish (you might if you go beyond the buoy line). The restaurant next to the beach was delicious. These days, Hotels like this outside Naha having a private beach has become fairly standard, so it’s not much of a reason to stay here. It may be better value to stay in Naha and drive farther out for beaches. In any case, I don’t think I will stay here again. Overall, it was very unpleasant.

    I read in a Review t...

I read in a Review that, due to the building’s layout, some Rooms don’t have a clear ocean view, so I did my research and made sure to make a Reservation for an ocean-view Room. The sea stretching out in front of us was absolutely beautiful, and the Room was spacious enough. The swimming area is properly enclosed with buoys, so it seems safe even for small children to play. The garden pool also has a wave pool; while it isn’t very large, kids would likely enjoy it. We stayed as two adults, so we took walks by the sea and didn’t use the pool—these are just my impressions from looking at it. The access from the beach to the paid bath was convenient, and from the garden pool to the laundry room was also easy—it felt very well thought out. One thing I noticed about the amenities in the paid bath: there was no body wash towel provided, and there were no shower caps. Maybe people don’t use shower caps these days, but I’d be happy if they were available. Also, breakfast: we chose the Japanese/Western buffet, but there weren’t as many options as I expected, which was disappointing. Maybe we should have chosen Japanese breakfast instead. I was looking forward to banana juice with brown sugar, but it was a different juice—slightly disappointing (though it was tasty). Everyone at the Hotel was kind and helpful. Even though the front desk staff member we spoke with wasn’t Japanese, their Japanese was fluent and very easy to understand.

    家族利用での旅

The meals and service were below expectations.

We stayed on a family trip with the dinner-and-breakfast Plan. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this Hotel for families. Disappointing points - Unable to dine at your preferred time To have dinner, you must make a phone Reservation after arriving at the Hotel. However, by the time we called, all slots were already booked and we could only choose the latest start time. We stayed for 4 nights and were never able to eat at our preferred time. It pushed our child’s bedtime later and was very difficult. - No option to choose the buffet There are four restaurants, and the Okinawan cuisine buffet is the most popular. There were no openings. For families with children, I do not recommend booking a Plan with dinner included. - Staff service Overall, they were not friendly and did not greet guests; the service quality was low. - A lot of walking within the Facility; elevators get crowded When going down from the 3rd floor to the beach on the 1st floor, there are no stairs and it gets very crowded. In addition, the outdoor pool is located at one end of the Facility and is inconvenient to access. - No parking guidance There are no directional signs in the parking area. We ended up in a lot near the outdoor pool, but there was no guidance to reach an exit; we accidentally entered an employee-only passageway and lost a significant amount of time. Overall, it fell short of expectations in many ways, which was disappointing.

A highly recommended Hotel with excellent guest satisfaction!

This is a Hotel with a very high level of overall satisfaction. The staff’s hospitality is especially outstanding. It’s rare to find a Hotel where every staff member is this pleasant, so I had a very comfortable stay. The Hotel’s location is also flawless. The view from the Room is amazing. There are plenty of dining options around the Hotel, and it’s easy to get anywhere from here. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be the long wait for the elevators during peak times when many guests are heading to the pool. That can’t really be helped due to the building layout, but since the elevator hall was extremely air-conditioned, even about a 5-minute wait felt long. When I come back to Okinawa, this is definitely a Hotel I’d like to stay at again.

    Great!

We stayed for three nights during Typhoon No. 9 in 2026. When we asked about cancellation in advance, we were told that unless our flight was canceled, the Cancellation Fee would apply according to the policy—so we decided to go! In the end, we were able to go to the beach, play in the outdoor pool even with a high-wave warning, and when the wind really picked up, we enjoyed the indoor pool. We also had fun doing activities like painting Shisa statues. Even during the strongest part of the typhoon, our room was completely quiet—no wind noise and no shaking windows—so we felt safe and at ease. Since it looked like conditions would be worst around our departure time, they kindly helped us switch to a late check-out. They also changed our breakfast to lunch on another day. All of the staff were very kind. We didn’t have a car, but it was still very convenient—there was a diving shop, izakaya restaurants, and convenience stores all within walking distance!

A hotel so delightful you’ll never want to leave.

This was my second stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the balcony offered a stunning ocean view. There is a beach outdoors, a wave pool, and an indoor pool as well. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, and you can reserve a time slot online to avoid long waits; the hotel is located on a popular street in Onna, with convenience stores and well-known restaurants nearby, all within walking distance.

We also enjoyed it as a family.

A large Hotel with plenty of kid-friendly facilities and activities. The sea right in front is calm and extremely safe. It was a shame that snorkeling wasn’t possible, but we relaxed at the pool with a great view and a comfortable temperature. There were hardly any free rest areas, but we happened to secure some shade, which was very lucky. The Onsen had no view so it felt a bit enclosed, but from the jacuzzi you could see a little of the ocean, and the breeze on the sofa was wonderfully pleasant. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The ocean view from the lanai was flawless. We were very satisfied with the French dinner while watching the sunset and with breakfast via Room service. We also enjoyed the lounge drink service, making it a wonderful stay.

    Recommended for families

We stayed as a family. The breakfast buffet venue gets crowded, so we recommend making an online Reservation before you go. The changing room for the indoor pool and the Onsen is shared, which was convenient because we could go straight from the pool to the bath. Compared with other Resort Hotels, the breakfast selection felt a bit limited. We stayed on the club floor; however, the club-floor-only reception was available only at check-in, and for everything else we were assisted at the regular front desk. We would appreciate it if checkout could also be handled there. When staying on the club floor, drinks in the lounge are free, but since the lounge is up a set of stairs and there is no ramp, we couldn’t access it with a stroller. The indoor parking garage has very narrow spaces, so drivers who are not confident should be cautious.

    The dinner buffet is overpriced.

This was my second stay. I tried the dinner buffet for the first time, but for JPY 7,000 it felt very overpriced. There weren’t many dishes, the food was just okay, and the drink bar cost extra. Even with it, the selection felt like a basic family restaurant. It didn’t feel worth it at all, so I wouldn’t use it again. Breakfast was a safer and better choice. The pools were fun with lots of different types! However, the indoor pool required an additional fee and felt expensive. The outdoor parking lot felt a bit far away. On the plus side, there are many restaurants nearby and access to sightseeing spots is convenient. Overall, I felt it was good.

It feels like a three-star Hotel.

We stayed here as a family during Golden Week. We chose this Hotel because the kids wanted the pool, and the adults were looking forward to the sauna and Onsen. Unfortunately, it was rainy and windy, so it was too cold for swimming, but the kids really enjoyed the pool trampoline and still used the pool despite the cold. As for the Onsen, the women’s bath only had a mist sauna—no cold plunge bath. There was no open-air bath either; it was a small bathing area with only two medium-sized baths. Even so, guests are charged an additional fee: 1,500 yen per adult and 750 yen per child. The food overall was neither particularly good nor bad. The breakfast buffet seems to be their selling point, but I don’t understand why at that level. There isn’t much variety, and it gets extremely crowded in the morning—if you don’t go in the 6 o’clock hour, waiting 60–90 minutes is common. The Japanese-style option is less crowded, but it wasn’t good either. The cake we ordered at the café also wasn’t up to Hotel standards. Overall, it felt like a third-rate Hotel. We won’t be returning.

    Recommended for families with children.

I stayed here for two consecutive years around the same time (late April) and was very satisfied with both the Facilities and the location. The Room was spacious, and I was able to relax comfortably on the balcony as well. In terms of Facilities, the large pool area was especially well equipped, and my 3-year-old child enjoyed it to the fullest. This time I also used the large public bath for an additional fee; although it is small, it has a sauna, which was great. Since you can also use the gym on the same day, it was an excellent system for someone like me who just wants a light workout. We tried the beach café barbecue for one day, but honestly it felt overpriced for what you get. However, there are plenty of restaurants around the Hotel, so we were able to fully enjoy dining out as well.

    Second stay

I stayed here shortly after it opened and had a great impression, so I chose to return on my recent trip back to Okinawa. I didn’t notice any aging of the Facility, and the front desk staff were very friendly, so I had a comfortable stay. It was a Multiple Night Stay, and being able to choose whether housekeeping is provided during the stay is a great system. However, when I picked up towels at the front desk, it would be helpful if there were a bag to carry them in. Carrying towels as-is back to the Room can be difficult when you already have luggage, and it also feels like it detracts from the Hotel atmosphere. Also, there was a note saying that only one bottle of water per person is provided in the Room and additional bottles must be purchased—this was my first time seeing that at a Resort Hotel. I had breakfast at the buffet venue on the lobby floor. Staff walk around, but they rarely cleared finished dishes even though they were clearly visible. In the end, the omelet chef cleared them for us instead. The breakfast staff service was not very good. On the other hand, the omelet chef was very attentive, and the omelets were delicious. Overall, my previous stay was completely stress-free, but this time I occasionally noticed cost-cutting under the name of “eco” measures and what seemed like understaffing affecting service. That said, if you don’t mind small details, this Hotel offers excellent value for its price and atmosphere. You can also enjoy an Onsen, there are many restaurants nearby, and the location is convenient—so overall I think it’s a satisfying place to stay.

It was a convenient Hotel located in the leisure area of Onna Village.

Hotel Monterey Okinawa Spa & Resort is located in the hotel district of Onna Village. It faces the main street, and the front desk and drop-off area are on the 3rd floor. If you arrive by car, staff will guide you. Drop off your luggage, park, and then check in. The Hotel was clean, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. As a large-scale Hotel, it offers plenty of facilities: a beach, pools (indoor and outdoor), a kids’ area, a shop, hands-on classes, and various activities. The view from the Room was spectacular. Maybe because we happened to be on a high floor, it had the best view of any place I’ve stayed so far. It was also convenient to have several restaurants nearby. One area for improvement would be breakfast: the dining area felt a bit cramped (tables were very close together), and there were long waits due to crowds. (There are two venues—one was extremely crowded while the other had open seats and was inviting guests in.) Overall, it’s a great Hotel, and I’d like to stay here again.
