The Onsen is great.
This was my second stay during summer vacation. After my previous stay, I enjoyed other parts of Hokkaido, and this time I stayed here as a stopover on the way to Utoro. Since I wasn’t satisfied with the meals last time, I ate both dinner and breakfast outside this time. The Onsen was as pleasant as ever! However, I was assigned a Room right next to the elevator and couldn’t sleep until morning. The front desk also didn’t answer the phone. It was terrible. My Room last time was quiet, but this time there was a constant “vooo” noise, and whenever someone used the elevator it echoed throughout the Room. It was loud enough to wake my child, who normally doesn’t wake up once asleep. The Hotel is in a great location, so if I stay again next time, I will definitely ask for a Room away from the elevator.

The start of our tri...
The start of our trip to Hokkaido. On clear nights, the starry sky was amazing! There’s a hammock in the garden, and while relaxing there we saw a beautiful meteor shower—it was incredible. We probably could have seen even more on a tour, but with kids this was more than enough to enjoy. Dinner and breakfast were not included, but we made a Reservation in advance. The first night was the last night of the summer festival, with cotton candy, shaved ice, and more. It was also nice that a young male staff member brought drinks to our table. However, there was nothing like that on the second day. Once the festival ended, the food felt ordinary—no different from a Business Hotel—so it wasn’t anything new or special. Next time, I think we’ll skip meals here. That said, the service from the glasses-wearing woman in charge of cheese and the young man handling alcohol service on the first day was excellent. Since we came all the way to Kussharo, we were hoping for local cuisine, but as mentioned several times, the food is at about Business Hotel level. The Onsen is very good.

It was a wonderful H...
It was a wonderful Hotel nestled in nature. We relaxed on the garden hammock and enjoyed the outdoors both day and night. The basement gift shop and game corner were also fun! The bath was excellent, and we enjoyed a leisurely, filling meal with our family.

Perfect for a family trip to Hokkaido.
We stayed here as a family while traveling around the Kushiro Marsh and the Mashu area. The price was very reasonable, so we were a bit worried at first, but the food was delicious, the Room was clean, and we had a comfortable stay with no inconveniences. As others have mentioned, the building and interior do feel somewhat dated, but everything was well maintained and it didn’t bother us. That said, it did feel a little plain, and since “Prince Hotel” used to mean a wonderful Resort Hotel, it made us feel a bit nostalgic. Even if prices go up slightly, I hope they keep improving so they won’t be outdone by Hoshino opening nearby soon. With such an excellent location, I think this could become an even more wonderful Hotel. The buffet meals were all tasty. The make-your-own soft-serve ice cream was fun for both kids and adults. There were also children’s options, making it a meal that keeps everyone happy on a family trip. As is often the case with buffets anywhere, when asked what single main dish was best, nothing in particular stood out in my memory. On the other hand, what was great is that even though it was a buffet, we could enjoy it without getting irritated by crowds. The environment where you hardly notice staff moving around felt very “Prince.” Access from Mashu Station isn’t very convenient, but being able to use the Shuttle Service bus really helped. This applies to Hokkaido overall: traveling by public transportation is quite difficult now, and it’s disappointing to see transport services and towns declining. I think this is something that prefectural roads authorities/municipalities and transportation operators need to address more seriously.

A Quiet Location
I made a Reservation with the breakfast Plan. It’s in a quiet location, and the interior felt a bit dated, but you can see a sea of clouds nearby early in the morning, and the breakfast buffet was very delicious. It’s always nice when the food is good.

The dining room’s large picture window is lovely.
The dining room’s large picture windows are a real highlight. While having dinner at a window-side table, we unexpectedly saw what looked like a crane—a large bird flying in. We also spotted many other waterfowl. The sunrise from the nearby pier was beautiful. The meals are satisfying as well. We really enjoyed the roast beef—it was delicious.

It was not an Onsen.
When we arrived, we were told that due to a pump failure it was not Onsen at the moment, but heated groundwater instead, and we were shocked. We had come looking forward to the Onsen at Lake Kussharo (in tears). They said it was posted on their website and that there was no problem, and offered a one-drink service. It left us feeling sad. If we had known, we could have changed to another Onsen Accommodation, so it was extremely disappointing (tears, tears).

The winter sky view from this window is absolutely stunning.
At 4:00 AM, under a clear sky with radiative cooling, the air was crisp above Lake Kussharo, and the night sky was filled with vibrant stars. This could be seen from the window of my Room. However, I couldn't capture it well on my smartphone. The transition of the beautiful sky continued until sunrise at 6:47 AM. My time in the Room was truly exceptional. This time, 95% of guests were Chinese-speaking individuals. While this may be necessary for sustaining operations in such a large-scale Hotel, I hope that group tour guides and Hotel check-in staff can educate them beforehand about "Japanese etiquette" in public spaces, buffets, and baths. Things like entering the bath while wearing yukata, speaking loudly in public areas, or taking all available food were things I wished to avoid experiencing again.

The lake view is limited.
It was my first time using this, and I had high expectations. At check-in, I was surprised to be told that the Room on the first floor had no lake view! I requested an upgrade and paid 5,000 yen to move to the top floor (8th floor), but the Room was old and not very good. The area was full of Chinese tourists. There was nothing around the Hotel, which was disappointing.

Stayed for 3 nights during the Obon holiday. The location is excellent with a stunning view of Lake Kussharo right in front. The Hotel itself is old but well-maintained, so there were no major inconveniences. However, the electric noise from the Room's refrigerator was too loud. There’s a note suggesting to turn it off if it bothers you, but then it won’t cool... Perhaps it's time for a replacement? Breakfast was included as a buffet, but I wish the quality could be improved a bit more. Staying for 3 nights, the lack of variety became repetitive and honestly tiresome.

Experience relaxation and rejuvenation.
I stayed during a midsummer day. The air conditioning in both the facility and the room worked perfectly, providing a refreshing cool-down. The facility is aged but well-maintained and clean. From the lake-view room, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake and sunrise. For both dinner and breakfast, I enjoyed the buffet, where each dish was delicious and seemed carefully prepared. I appreciated that ingredients from Hokkaido and Teshikaga were used. At night, I particularly liked the roast beef and dishes featuring Teshikaga tofu, while in the morning, freshly baked croissants were my favorite. Breakfast was especially enjoyable with announcements for freshly baked bread or making your own hot sandwiches. The milk tasting experience was also fun! On clear nights, I recommend visiting the lakeside garden to admire stunning starry skies—whether from a pier or while relaxing on a hammock—it’s truly soothing. The Onsen left my skin feeling smooth and moisturized as well. Shuttle service between Mashu Station and the hotel is available—thank you for that convenience! I look forward to visiting this hotel again during another season!

Great value for money
The room faces the lake with a great view. It is not spacious but clean and has sufficient space. There was no bathtub in the room, but since there is an onsen, it was not an issue. The onsen includes both an indoor bath and an open-air bath. Since there were few guests, it was always available whenever we went, which was nice. However, if there are many guests, the size might be insufficient. Meals are buffet-style—neither particularly good nor bad. Having roast beef was a pleasant surprise. The freshly baked croissants in the morning were also delicious. Service had some disappointing aspects: - Ice needs to be purchased separately. - Restaurant staff were not very friendly. Still, for accommodation during sightseeing trips, it’s adequate—neither outstanding nor lacking—and offers good value for money overall.

The location is prime, but the age of the building is evident.
There were times when I didn't check carefully during the reservation, and I ended up in a smoking room, which had a strong smell. I desperately opened the window for ventilation. As expected of the Prince, the service was polite, but there was nothing that could be done about the oldness of the facility. The basement with the shop also felt a bit rundown. However, if Lake Kussharo had been clear and beautiful, the impression might have been quite different. The bath was unexpectedly relaxing, which was nice.

The view of Lake Kussharo is excellent.
I was upgraded due to no vacancy, so this will be a review. Please take it with a grain of salt. I believe the room was a Superior Double Room with Jacuzzi Bath, 38.64 square meters. Being a corner room, you get an exclusive view of Lake Kussharo. I did not have any meals, so there is no evaluation for that. However, however. Is this non-smoking plan for the Superior Double Room with Jacuzzi Bath, 38.64 square meters, available? (I cannot access it from IKYU or the Kussharo Prince Hotel's website) I understand if it's popular and there's no vacancy, but it seems only the "smoking" plan is being sold. It's actually my first visit in 24 years, a quarter of a century has passed, the surrounding environment has changed, and I'm ready to revisit. I would love for you to sell non-smoking rooms, even if the price is higher. Thank you for this time. I would like to head north again aiming for this non-smoking plan of the Superior Double Room with Jacuzzi Bath, 38.64 square meters.
