    Upgraded to a Special Room with a private bath.

    The Room was clean, and the amenities were well stocked. We upgraded to a special Room, so we thoroughly enjoyed the in-room bath. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Konpira from the Room. The kaiseki meal was also very delicious.

    The front desk staff...

    The front desk staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The late-night meal Plan was also excellent, and everything was delicious. I’d love to stay here again when I visit Mt. Konpira, and I’ll recommend it to my friends. Thank you for having us for our one-night, two-day stay.

    The buffet was delicious.

    When I usually go on an Onsen trip, I choose in-room dining or a private dining room, but this time it was a last-minute trip so we used the buffet. It had been a while since I’d had a buffet, and it was really enjoyable—everything tasted great and there was such a wide variety. I planned to try just one bite of each, but there was far too much to finish; there were still many dishes that looked delicious, yet I couldn’t sample them all, which was the only regret. Breakfast was just as satisfying. Hearing bell crickets chirping in the covered walkway—and realizing they were real—left a strong impression. We could leave the car and take a leisurely walk to Mt. Konpira. It’s only a few minutes to the trailhead.

    Three-Generation Trip

    We stayed during the Obon holidays for a three-generation family trip. The property was spacious, and we were able to borrow a wheelchair for my mother-in-law, who has difficulty walking. The meals were delicious as well. The staff were kind, and it became a wonderful summer vacation memory.

    We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. Thank you for all your thoughtful care—we had a wonderful time. It’s close to my family home, and the parking is easy to use, so I’d like to stay again. Next time, I’m thinking of choosing a Western-style Room for my mother, who has back problems. Having iced water already in the kettle in the Room was very helpful.

    Long-established Ryokan

    They kindly upgraded our Room, giving us a larger space and access to the scenic-view bath. Since there seemed to be many group guests, we really appreciated being able to use the quiet scenic-view bath. The staff member who assisted us at dinner was very pleasant. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as cold water prepared by the bedside at night and newspaper delivery to our Room early in the morning.

    A highly satisfying accommodation!

    The staff were courteous and the service was excellent. The dinner buffet offered a wide variety of options, including fresh fish and hot pot, and we were very satisfied. There were table tennis and an arcade within the Facility, making it an ideal Accommodation for a family trip. We stayed one night each in Hitenkan and Sansuikan. Hitenkan required less walking and the Facility itself felt newer, so we would likely choose Hitenkan next time. In any case, it was close to Konpira Shrine, making for a fulfilling trip! We would love to stay again.

    It was my first time...

    It was my first time staying here. Although it coincided with a school trip group, they upgraded me to an available Room, so I was able to spend my time quietly. The bath at Hitenkan was very pleasant.

    It was really great.

    I often visited Kagawa to eat udon, but this time I decided to stay overnight as golf was added to the trip. I was told that Kotohira Kanko Hotel is the place to stay in Kagawa, so I made a Reservation. At check-in, I was surprised to find that my Room had been upgraded, and it was wonderful—I was able to relax and unwind. The meals were delicious and generous in portion size, and the staff came at just the right times. I truly had a great time and felt refreshed. The Onsen was not too hot—just perfect—and I could soak slowly and comfortably. This has become one of the Ryokan I would like to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    Stay on the top floor of the Hitenkan guest rooms

    Even though the station was nearby, I had luggage, so the Shuttle Service was a big help. This time I stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room on the top floor of Hitenkan on the Konpira side; it was very spacious, and in the morning the view from the window was stunning and left me feeling refreshed. The panoramic open-air Onsen reserved exclusively for Hitenkan guests is also highly recommended—I could relax in the Onsen while enjoying views stretching all the way to the Seto Inland Sea. When moving around inside the building, I also enjoyed viewing the furnishings displayed along the covered corridor “Kotohira Sando,” and the Japanese garden near the lounge was beautiful and soothing.

    Back at Kotohira Kanko Hotel after a long time

    I stayed here for three years in a row long ago, but since then I’ve been staying at a Ryokan closer to the approach to the shrine, so it’s been a very long time since my last visit to Kotohira Kanko Hotel. The front desk staff were all friendly, professional, and efficient, making everything smooth and pleasant. Thank you very much. Compared with the past, the Room, large public bath, and shop felt more streamlined—clearly designed with good value in mind—and I appreciated that. That said, I would like to see an upgraded dinner course option. The fish was delicious, but...

    We stayed with my parents to celebrate my father’s birthday. We were satisfied because we were able to book a great deal by using coupons and points with the free upgrade Plan to a Japanese-Western Room, but at the regular price it might have felt a bit expensive. Dinner was a classic kaiseki course—nothing particularly luxurious or novel—but it was tasty and the portions were just right. I had seen several Reviews saying the baths in the Hiten Wing are usually quiet, but unfortunately they were always crowded when I used them (though not so much that there were no washing stations). There was no 안내 about the coffee server in front of the dining venue; I only noticed it after seeing someone use it. These days many Onsen Ryokan offer complimentary lounges, so I would have liked at least the coffee server to be available after check-in and before check-out. I was a little worried because it’s quite a large Ryokan, but the information we shared in advance was communicated across departments. Since we requested a Room close to the elevator due to my parents’ mobility, they also arranged our dining location in a nearer private room, which we really appreciated. We could relax in our spacious Room while enjoying views of Mt. Zozu. The in-room massage chair was excellent as well. The city view from outside (on the opposite side) of the baths in the Hiten Wing was also lovely. It didn’t have that exclusive feel of a small Ryokan, but I think this is an Accommodation you can use with peace of mind even though it’s large-scale.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Room was spacious, and it was my first time staying in a Room with three beds lined up. The in-room bath also had a washing area, so even though it wasn’t an Onsen, we could enjoy it comfortably both at night and in the morning. All the staff greeted us with smiles, the food was delicious, and we had a wonderful time. The Onsen water was mild and pleasant, with a temperature that anyone could relax in. From the interior decor and crafts to thoughtful details like labeled slippers and a chair placed in front of the sink in the Room, the attentive service throughout truly reflected this long-established Onsen Hotel.

    A Trip to Honor Your Parents

    This trip was a gift for my parents. The Room, the bath, and the meals— we were completely satisfied with everything. At check-in, I briefly mentioned the baseball broadcast to the staff member in charge, and that information was shared with our server as well, who kindly looked out for us. We were truly impressed by such thoughtful attention to detail. Thank you very much.

    Mount Konpira

    There was plenty of parking, and it was within walking distance to Mt. Konpira. After climbing up to the inner shrine behind the main hall, the Onsen was wonderfully relaxing and helped ease my fatigue. The meals were also very delicious, and thank you to all the staff for your courteous service. If I have another chance, I would like to stay in a Hitenkan guest room and enjoy the scenic-view bath.

    The whole family was delighted.

    Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style. Dinner offered a wide variety, including sushi, steak, sashimi, tempura, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), tea soba, and seared bonito, and our whole family was satisfied. The Facility had paintings and decorative vases displayed throughout the hallways, giving it a charming retro Showa-era feel that I really loved. The Onsen was spacious with an open-air bath and was kept very clean. I also appreciated that they lent us walking sticks for visiting Kotohira-gu Shrine free of charge. Thank you very much.

    The renovated rooms are comfortable.

    The room has been renovated and is, of course, spotless. The open-air bath in the guest room features a spacious and comfortable ceramic tub. Amenities are well stocked, so you likely won’t need to bring anything yourself. Dinner was under a Plan with a guaranteed private dining room, allowing you to enjoy well-timed service at your own pace without worrying about others. The quality, portion size, and taste were all excellent—sure to satisfy. After dinner, a bingo game is held in the lobby for an exciting and fun time.

    Trip to Kotohira

    As we stayed at year-end, the Accommodation was quite expensive. The building felt a bit dated, but it was well maintained, the Room was clean, and we enjoyed delicious meals. We also appreciated the attentive service from the staff, such as serving tea in our Room and kneeling to bow during meals, which reflected the Ryokan’s thoughtful hospitality.

    First stay in five years

    Five years ago, I believe we stayed as a family of nine. This time, I stayed alone on a business trip. The Onsen was wonderful as always, and although I think many guests were staying, it never felt crowded and I was able to relax. That alone makes it well worth it. In the morning, I headed to Konpira Shrine. It feels like an Accommodation you can trust.

    It was a wonderful Onsen accommodation.

    Weekday One-Night Stay The front desk staff provided very polite and pleasant service. Their friendly and kind conversation, such as asking "Where are you visiting from?" was heartwarming. The accommodation was clean, with beautiful furnishings that gave a true sense of being in Kotohira. I stayed in a room with an open-air bath, which was absolutely fantastic. The onsen was relaxing, and the room itself was spotless. Dinner was delicious, especially the fish dishes which were outstandingly tasty. The sea bream rice cooked in a pot (tai-meshi) was incredibly flavorful. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options, all of which were delicious as well. On the day after my stay, I explored Konpira-san and appreciated being able to leave my car parked at the accommodation while doing so. They also provided free rentals for umbrellas and walking sticks, which were extremely helpful. The shop on the first floor had an extensive selection of items; it felt like you could do all your shopping there without needing to go elsewhere. This truly is an exceptional accommodation! If I visit Kotohira again, I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others as well!

    The staff who served dinner was exceptionally attentive and thoughtful, providing an extraordinary experience. However, at the breakfast buffet, despite arriving at 8:00 AM, the dishes were not replenished, and dessert plates were also left unavailable.

    First-time use.

    This was my first time staying here. I believe it was my own oversight, but after viewing the Ryokan's website, I assumed I could use the scenic bath and was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

    Stayed here after a mountain climbing trip. This is a traditional, large Ryokan with a nostalgic Showa-era feel. The staff were incredibly pleasant and left a great impression. The highlight of the dinner was the local specialty, "Ibuki Iriko" kamameshi, which was absolutely delicious. Providing towels in the bath area is definitely a plus!

    The Showa Hotel

    The room was clean and pleasant. Since there were no alcoholic beverages or ice makers in the vending machine corner, I bought them at a nearby 7-Eleven. The shop also sold ice for drinks, but it came in large containers. Although the selection of snacks was limited, I had already purchased various items on the way, which was helpful. There was a store on the first floor, but if you don't want to spend money on dinner there, it's better to shop at 7-Eleven or along the way. The public bath was nice; however, the sauna temperature was slightly low at 90°C and the cold bath temperature felt slightly high. Since the bathwater temperature is average overall, having both hot and lukewarm baths might be a good idea. The breakfast buffet was quite extensive and satisfying. After checking out in the morning and climbing up to Okunomiya Shrine of Konpira Shrine, I ended up drenched in sweat. I wanted to freshen up back at the Hotel but found out that Onsen use alone wasn't allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions—apparently no Hotels are offering day-use Onsens anymore because of this reason. This inability to attract returning visitors from Konpira Shrine might be contributing to Kotohira's decline despite having such great public baths—it feels like a missed opportunity! Also worth noting: how long ago were these COVID-related restrictions first mentioned? There were large groups of Chinese tourists who were quite noisy and unpleasant for me personally; however—with few Japanese guests around plus only one Western guest present—it made me realize that without Chinese tourists supporting businesses here financially things could become unsustainable economically speaking!
