    As a premise, this i...

As a premise, this is my impression after staying at a price of JPY 40,000–50,000 per person. The service provided is not worth the price. The meals in particular are terrible. I think the main building’s bath, the view from the Room, and the historic architecture are good. The front desk service and hospitality are also good, so overall I don’t think it’s a bad Accommodation. However, the gap between the price and quality is far too large. About the Room: Upon arrival, there was a sewage-like smell coming from the indoor corridor, which was very bothersome. The glasses in the Room had obvious fingerprints on them and couldn’t be used without washing. Since this is an Accommodation in nature, I understand some things are unavoidable, but I don’t see why a large dead fly had to be lying next to a rinsing cup. About the baths: The large public bath in the annex is on the side opposite the lake, so there is no view and it doesn’t feel premium. In the main building’s large public bath, there is only one cold plunge tub (for one person), so a line forms after using the sauna. The amenities are also not of a grade that matches this price range. The meals feel cheap across the board. Dining takes place in an open hall with no partitions where guests are packed in—it feels like a school trip cafeteria. Even the tableware looks inexpensive, and some trays had peeling paint. I was looking forward to kaiseki cuisine, but the tuna sashimi was sinewy; overall everything felt overly cold and dried out as if it had been kept in refrigeration for too long. For shabu-shabu as the main dish they said it was domestic beef, but when I asked where it was from they answered “unknown.” Even plain white rice wasn’t good—it felt like it had been cooked in a large pot and kept warm for hours with no sense of being freshly cooked at all. What shocked me most was one of their soups: it was simply eggplant miso soup—nothing like what you would expect as a highlight of kaiseki cuisine—and it didn’t taste good either; the eggplant was mushy while its skin was tough to chew. Portions were small overall as well. They said this meal plan for general guests is priced at around JPY 18,000 or so; at an ordinary restaurant this level would be unacceptable for that price point (or any). The service quality isn’t good either: staff speak quietly and act curtly/indifferently toward guests (as if annoyed). A middle-aged male staff member served food while wearing chunky rings and a wristwatch on his hands/wrists; that bothered me too because he should have removed them before serving food directly to guests’ tables/plates/bowls etc.. They don’t manage each table’s progress properly so you end up waiting awkwardly long between courses/dishes without explanation or apology etc.. It may seem minor but even slippers at entrance must be put away by yourself rather than being handled by staff—which adds another “school trip” vibe instead of luxury hospitality expected at JPY 40k-50k per person staycation experience level.. While scenery & architecture/buildings were nice indeed , overall experience made me feel like being on school excursion rather than premium ryokan stay . I understand inflation & inbound tourism demand might affect pricing nowadays , but still I wanted services more commensurate with such high prices .

The view from the Room was wonderful. We had a clear view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji. The view from the main building’s Onsen was also great. All the staff welcomed us with warm smiles and provided pleasant service. We would love to stay again.

The overall service was poor. The dining area felt like a cafeteria. The staff seemed unmotivated, with no smiles. It left me feeling uncomfortable. The meals were especially disappointing.

A girls’ trip for five women.

I finally got to stay at the long-awaited Ryuguden. The Room had large windows that felt very open, and right in front of me I could see the lake and Mt. Fuji—it was incredibly relaxing. The meals were excellent as well. However, it was a little disappointing that the main building’s open-air bath closed at 8:00 p.m.

It was my first stay, and it was excellent.

The room had large windows with a breathtaking view. All the staff were very pleasant, and I especially appreciated the thoughtful, non-manual services provided during check-in and dinner, which truly reflected their hospitality. The Diamond Member benefits were excellent, particularly the late check-out option that allowed for a relaxing stay. It was convenient to use both the day-use onsen and the onsen exclusively for guests. Although the weather wasn't great, I thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing time indulging in onsen experiences. Next time, I hope to visit when the weather is clear to see Mount Fuji from the room.

    Relaxing Mother-Daughter Trip

A mother-daughter trip My mother mentioned that this was a Hotel she always wanted to visit. We came here to celebrate her 88th birthday. The Hotel staff were very kind, and the food was absolutely delicious. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories for us.

    Healing Accommodation

It was my first time staying in the Ashinoko area, and I enjoyed the vast scenery and forest bathing, making it a pleasant stay. With a limited number of guest rooms, the attentive service made me feel truly welcomed. The discounts for Hakone-en and the Shuttle Service to Odawara Station were much appreciated. I also enjoyed both the Onsen in the main building and annex. It would be even better if the amenities had a bit more of a luxurious feel.

    Everything is wonderful.

The building, room, service, and meals were all wonderful. If I had to say, it would be perfect if the day-use bathing facility could be improved to close at 8 PM. For example, allowing guests to use it until 11 PM.
