The location is believed to be the site of Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa, which he frequently visited during his reign (781-806), as referenced in "Nihon Kiryaku." (An excavation conducted on our premises in 1988 uncovered remains of a garden from the early Heian period, suggesting a high possibility that this was the site of Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa.) In "The Tale of Genji," Chapter 18 "Matsukaze," written in the mid-Heian period, a residence near the Oi River serves as the setting. This residence is described as being located "nearby Oigawa," and it is believed to have been modeled after Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa.

Located on Suzaku Avenue, the central axis of the ancient Heian-kyo capital, this area is rich in Kyoto's historical essence. This modern Japanese-style Property features auspicious motifs such as gourds incorporated into the bedrooms, lighting, and handles, as well as decorative elements like karakami with ring patterns and lucky mallets scattered throughout. On the first floor, there is a Japanese-style living room overlooking a small garden, while the second floor offers a Western-style room with beds and a Japanese-style room, both retaining the townhouse's original beams and sloped roof. We have renovated the remaining 'Kyomachiya' in Kyoto, which are gradually decreasing over time. You can experience living in Kyoto by staying in this historic property. Additionally, at 'Kyoiroiriyado Some SEN,' we provide a traditional hearth as the name suggests. For the purpose of preserving the property, we use an electric hearth instead of fire. Please enjoy this warm and nostalgic space.
