Genji Kyoto is a boutique Hotel quietly situated along the Kamo River, which flows through the heart of Kyoto. With excellent access to historical landmarks, every Room is equipped with a tatami relaxation space and spacious beds for your comfort. The name "Genji Kyoto" is derived from the Rokujoin, featured in "The Tale of Genji," and the Kawarain, the villa of Minamoto no Toru, said to be its model. Renovated in 2021, a waterfall-view Stays nestled beyond the valley. The open-air bath features a free-flowing private hot spring. Enjoy a relaxing time with the sauna and waterfall shower. We have created a serene space where guests staying at the Property can also feel a connection to the time when the building was originally constructed. The Rooms at Higashiyama Roku have been designed under the supervision of washi paper designer Eriko Horiki, who created washi light walls and lighting, offering a space where guests can enjoy the subtle shadows, the charm, and the transitions of a machiya. The lighting and Shigaraki ware round bathtubs, supervised by washi designer Eriko Horiki, as well as the noren (curtain) featuring calligraphy by Hina Aoyagi, the director of the Hokuriku Calligraphy Institute, are just some of the carefully curated details found throughout.

The first floor retains the traditional "eel bed" layout of a Kyoto townhouse while creating an open space by removing partitions. While preserving the charm of the traditional townhouse, such as low ceilings and narrow, steep stairs, we have renovated the water facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. Meals are not included, but bustling areas like Gion and Kiyamachi are within walking distance.
