An auberge nestled in the forest at the foot of the Hira Mountains, close to Lake Biwa. With the themes of “the luxury of doing nothing” and “a secluded Accommodation,” we serve satoyama Italian cuisine born from fresh lake seafood and the rich bounty of the mountains. Set on a 500-tsubo property, we welcome only six parties per day. Each room is spacious and distinctive, created for moments of quiet serenity. In 2023, young chef Takuro Ishizuka—born and raised here at the foot of the Hira Mountains—joined us. Drawing on his experience discovering exceptional ingredients across Japan and blending them with Japanese cuisine and Mediterranean influences, he is now bringing his expression to Shiga.

"Fukudaya" was born by inheriting the traditional inn "Fukudaya," which has welcomed many travelers in the past, and renovating a building over 140 years old while preserving its original charm. The dining area and guest rooms facing Lake Biwa offer stunning views of the lake. For breakfast and dinner, we serve course meals featuring fresh lake fish and local vegetables carefully selected by the host of the accommodation.
