A new encounter, a single story. Kanbayashi Hotel Senjukaku. The story began with an encounter. It was in 1929 (Showa 4) when the first president of Nagano Electric Railway, Tohei Kozu, met Lieutenant Helseth from Norway. This meeting in Kanbayashi brought together European and Japanese cultures, creating an entirely new culture or space. It was a groundbreaking event where the culture of a Western-style Hotel was incorporated into a traditional Japanese-style Ryokan for the first time. Furthermore, this encounter became the prologue to the development of Kanbayashi Onsen and Shiga Kogen, now renowned as one of Japan's leading international resorts.

Kusatsu Hotel was established during the Taisho era as a Western-style "Hotel." During the Meiji period, Dr. Bertz, a German medical scientist, praised Kusatsu Onsen, attracting many foreign visitors to Kusatsu. Later, around Showa 27, the hotel was renovated into the current traditional Japanese-style Ryokan, but the name "Hotel" remained. The charm and spirit of hospitality from the Taisho era have been preserved to this day.

KURBIO is a name derived from the combination of the German word "KUR," meaning "healing, recovery, treatment," and the Greek word "BIOS," meaning "life." KUR is often associated with Kurhaus (a Facility for therapeutic and recuperative purposes, often featuring an Onsen), and BIO is commonly heard in recent years in the context of macrobiotics (a dietary approach translated as "the art of longevity"). Kusatsu Onsen Hotel KURBIO is designed with the desire to help guests restore their physical and mental health through both aspects. It offers a serene environment, the renowned hot springs of Kusatsu, and daily meal menus based on macrobiotics. This is a new style of healthy resort that has not existed in Japan before.

A Resort Hotel named Lavista (meaning "view") has opened on a hill slightly away from the central area of Kusatsu Onsen. This is the first facility in Kusatsu Onsen to feature a top-floor panoramic Onsen bath and four unique private Onsen baths, all free of charge, where you can enjoy two types of hot springs, including the famous Yubatake source. The new building of "Joyful Property Takamatsu" located in Kusatsu Onsen, Gunma Prefecture, has opened. A modern-style space with the concept of blending Japanese and Western elements.
