Natural free-flowing hot spring water, with a history and tranquility dating back to the Edo period.

My daughter, who lives far away, was able to come home during the holiday, so we stayed on 9/20 during Silver Week. At first, we had made a Reservation at another Hotel because we planned to go grape picking in Fukushima and then travel to Morioka. However, with the typhoon making the weather uncertain, we kept considering a closer plan until the last minute. When an opening came up for a Room with an open-air bath, we quickly made a Reservation here. Since our family travels entirely by car, changing our schedule gave us extra time. We arrived early and planned to take a walk nearby, and the parking staff kindly recommended some spots for us. The footbath was very relaxing. The open-air bath in the Room does not have a washing area, but it wasn’t an issue—washing first at the large public bath or using the indoor bath in the Room was enough. Dinner and breakfast are buffet-style. When traveling as a family of four, we usually choose Accommodations with buffets, so we truly appreciate Itoen Hotel for its reasonable pricing. Some people have various opinions about the food, but if you search under the same conditions (a Room with an open-air bath), most places cost about twice as much or more than Itoen Hotel. If you’re dissatisfied, it simply means you should increase your budget. The Tsukimi Fair set dishes and—during Silver Week—the bluefin tuna and roast beef sushi were especially popular. The ramen was also delicious; since this is Fukushima, perhaps it had a Kitakata-style soup? Our family was very satisfied. Because of the typhoon’s impact, we decided to relax at the Hotel. We enjoyed soaking in the Onsen many times, eating until we were full, winning prizes in the game corner arcade area, and having fun playing table tennis—it was a wonderful stay. Since I made this Reservation in such haste, I caused trouble due to my own mistake. Also after checking out and leaving, my daughter realized something important to her was missing. When we turned back and returned to the Hotel staff immediately told us it had been found at the shop counter—this truly helped us so much. Thank you very much for your kind assistance. Lastly I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone—the person who handled my call regarding my mistake during Reservation booking as well as all staff at reception front desk parking restaurant shop housekeeping and throughout this Hotel. Thank you very much.

An accommodation featuring one of the largest open-air rock baths with free-flowing natural hot spring water in Okuhida Onsenkyo.

First of all, thank you to the front desk staff for your courteous service from check-in onward. I carefully checked the weather forecast and decided there would be no snowfall, then hurriedly planned a trip to my beloved Hida Takayama and Okuhida. After leisurely enjoying the old town streets, I headed to the Accommodation and arrived around dusk—only to see white flakes falling from the sky. In the end, it worked out perfectly. The early-morning Onsen was a stunning open-air bath with snow viewing and a softly lit winter landscape. With no wind, I was able to enjoy a quiet moment all to myself and Clear away my daily fatigue and stress. The indoor bath also had a lovely interior and atmosphere, was beautifully cleaned, and I enjoyed a full hour—completely satisfied. The Yakult drink service in the post-bath lounge was another thoughtful touch; I ended up having three. Breakfast afterward was outstanding for someone who loves Japanese food—I had three large bowls of rice first thing in the morning. Hoba miso, “tsukemono steak,” kombu rolls, simmered ganmodoki, steamed vegetables, miso soup with fried tofu… And as if that weren’t enough, I even finished off some special curry rice. Now I’m slightly nervous about my next regular checkup with my hemoglobin A1c likely going up… On the way home I did some light exercise by strolling around Takayama again: Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, the Takayama Festival Float Exhibition Hall, Hiroshige’s baumkuchen shop, a cat café, and more. This is an Accommodation I’d like to visit again anytime in any season—and one I truly hope to stay at again. Next time I’d love to try dinner as well. When I noticed the interior (tatami flooring?), it felt familiar—then I realized it’s part of the same group as Hida Hanazato no Yu Takayama Ouan. Once again, it struck me as a wonderful concept: clean and beautifully Japanese in style. Thank you very much.
