Established in 1878 as Japan's first full-scale Resort Hotel in Miyanoshita, Hakone, Fujiya Hotel began with a single Western-style building constructed by its founder, Sennosuke Yamaguchi. Over time, through numerous expansions and renovations, it has become a grand architectural symbol of Hakone. Having overcome many challenges, including natural disasters, much of the building was designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 1997. After more than two years of extensive renovations, the "new" Fujiya Hotel reopened in 2020. While preserving its timeless charm and design along with its spirit of hospitality, we continue to create new history as a pioneer among classic hotels to provide an even more comfortable and relaxing experience for our guests.

"Yamamoto-kan," a historic Ryokan established in the late Edo period, stands gracefully in front of Kusatsu Onsen's iconic Yubatake. This registered tangible cultural property retains the charm of traditional wooden architecture. Inside, you’ll feel the warmth and history, with a bathhouse offering soothing onsen water directly sourced from Kusatsu’s renowned Shirahata spring. The nine guest rooms are designed for tranquility, offering stunning views of Yubatake and allowing guests to fully enjoy the changing beauty of each season. After your bath, savor handmade kaiseki cuisine crafted with care by skilled chefs. In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

An Accommodation in Awazu Onsen, founded in Yoro 2 (718). Discovered by the monk Taicho Daishi, its sacred spring still flows today. A nationally registered commemorative garden passed down from Kobori Enshu to Sano Toemon. A group of nationally registered tangible cultural properties, masterfully assembled by temple carpenters without a single nail. Time carried on since the monk Garyo, and handed down through 47 generations as guardians of the waters. In the garden moss, in the temperature of the water, in the cypress beams—1,300 years of time quietly seep through. Spend a night within it, and the rhythms of everyday life gently begin to unwind.

The third-generation owner of Arai Ryokan had close relationships with literary and artistic figures, leading to the creation of numerous works of Japanese painting and literature at Arai Ryokan. Located in the middle of Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo, Yama no Kami Onsen is named after the "Yamatsumi Shrine" that enshrines the mountain deity in this area. Yukaen, a Yama no Kami Onsen inn crafted by shrine carpenters, features lattice-patterned ceilings and intricate craftsmanship throughout the building, allowing you to fully enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by the warmth of wood.

It's like opening a giant time capsule. That was the impression when we first entered to begin the restoration of this accommodation. This building once served as a "Honjin," a resting place for the Matsumoto feudal lord traveling to Edo during the Sankin-kotai system. Over 100 years, it has accumulated remnants from various eras, packed tightly within its walls. As we carefully uncovered these layers with the help of local residents, the essence and potential of this accommodation began to reveal themselves.The cultural figures who passed through here, and those who warmly welcomed them with heartfelt hospitality. An old hearth unexpectedly discovered when removing floorboards—when its fire is lit again after all these years, this Honjin will come alive once more. Perhaps this space has been waiting for someone all along. Perched 60 meters above sea level on the heights of Hiraiso Cape, surrounded by Ishikari Bay, you can take in sweeping views of the endless blue sea and sky, with a full panorama of Otaru Bay and downtown Otaru spread out below. Ginrinso, a historic herring mansion and ryotei-style Accommodation with Onsen, is regarded as a representative example of fishery architecture. It was originally built as the residence of a major fishing magnate in Yoichi, once famed at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula as a prosperous herring fishing ground. Its grand yet elegant presence has only grown more dignified over more than 140 years since its founding, and it is now counted among “Hokkaido’s 100 Cultural Properties.” While preserving its traditional exterior and furnishings as faithfully as possible, we have enhanced our modern Facilities to pursue even greater comfort and functionality. In the rear garden overlooking the Sea of Japan, we have newly added an open-air rock bath rich in refined charm; reborn under the name “Hiraiso Onsen,” we begin anew as one of Otaru’s newest tourist attractions.
